The Royal at Atlantis divides opinion among its guests. While the hotel's cleanliness and central location receive consistent praise, allowing for easy access to a plethora of amenities and stunning views, the dated room decor and occasional maintenance issues, such as plumbing, have been a letdown for some. Many travelers feel the cost is steep considering the value, citing pricey food and extra charges. The vast amenities, including water parks and pools, are a highlight, though overcrowding can dampen the experience. Service quality also varies, impacting guest satisfaction.

We have traveled around the Caribbean and Ive been to Paradise Island before but the Atlantis is simply just a giant Water Park/Casino from the USA placed in the Bahamas. I would probably give it less stars but since it was done on Marriott points at least it did not cost me the $$$$$$$ it could have and was fun for the toddlers. The Royal is the central hotel of the multiple on site and is definitely convenient to the Kids Club, Dolphin Cay and Aquaventure (Water Park). Check in took forever (no real lines demarcating where to stand or who to see). Our family of 4 had a harborview room (no upgrade) on the 14th Floor which had amazing views and a small juliette balcony (we could see the ocean too). Our 2 queen bed room was dated, squishy beds, and there was some mold in the bathroom. Nothing special about the room, served its purpose to crash in the evenings (no microwave and one small shelf in the cash bar fridge for your stuff). The elevators are super fast so there was never any waiting. It is very important to note that at least in the winter the Water Park closes at 5pm so you are basically out of activities with/for the kids unless you have them in the Kids Club (at a cost). I found this incredibly shocking and disappointing. We thought the water park was mediocre but the highlights for us were the roaring rapids tube ride and the large pool adjacent to the Cove (heated). The slides are nice but they last about 20s and you will wait for at least 45 min in line for each. The lines are long especially when the cruisers arrive at the resort by 10am and you will need to endure the smell of mold and sewage on the lines. The Dig and the Predator Tunnel are worth seeing for the sharks and fishes. We felt trapped on the resort since the Ferry stops running to Nassau by 5pm (and its apparently not reliable) or you want to pay about $40-50 for a roundtrip taxi. The onsite restaurant prices are exorbitant and basically just all American eateries (if you are from any major city, incredibly underwhelming) - be prepared for a 12% VAT and 15% gratuity (or more) on all bills within the resort/marina. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our meals at Nobu, Olives and Cafe Martinique but be ready for sticker shock! Restaurant service at the $$$$ restos is not what I would have expected, average at best. Check out Sun & Ice for authentic ice cream; everything else is "imported" from the USA (boring). The hotel/water park staff was incredibly friendly and helpful but they do work at island pace. There is plenty of free bottled water or refillable fountains as well. There is also a housekeeping daily fee of $10 per night and a resort fee of $53 per night. In short, I would possibly return to Nassau but never to Atlantis.

I am so in love with the Bahamas. The Royal looks like such an amazing place to stay in. But for starters, they give you a pre-filled fridge in your room. One move of an item and you are magically charged. Then if you want your own fridge you must request it and they fail to mention it’s $15 per day. I didn’t have these problems when I stayed at The Beach. Beautiful place but lots of hidden extra charges. Also get a wristband at a towel hut or you will continued to be harassed to show your room key. The Taxi driver also told me never charge anything to your room. They double tax you. Once on the original purchase and again on the final total 😱

A friend and I took this trip with our families, each having young kids (infants, 8 months and 18 months respectively). We both had been to the Atlantis resort prior and had wanted to go with our families. Ensure you ask for a RENOVATED room, or else you will be in one that will be quite lacking (equivalent to a Motel room). My friend ended up in a room with clogged tub and sinks and ended up getting upgraded to a newer room, which I had. After that hurdle, we ended up having no running water through the faucets as they claimed they were going through renovations (but we're in renovated rooms). You would think a five star hotel would have planned their work, with contingency plans, or planned out their operations better, but with no running water - we ended up with a crate of water bottles that we picked up our selves and brought to our rooms. Both our infant children bathed like emperors in Dasani water (unfortunately cold). Our locker/safe in the room did not work, as we'd have to call security to unlock it to gain access to our belongings every night. These guys need to spend more on asset management/maintenance, as both my friend and I, are starting to notice cracks and kinks in what was considered quite a palatial place to visit and relax. we visited the front desk like 4 times during our 6 day trip to file complaints, have issues addressed. YES - The water park, beaches, and food were all great, but the experience of not being able to rest and enjoy are my takeaways from this trip, having spent quite a lot of money for sub par service and experience. Yes, we received resort credits towards our stay but they need to do something more, for me to stay again. getting a resort credit doesn't fix all the unease we had to endure. I asked for a resort view when I knew, there were rooms available, but we a got the port view (boats/cruises), stating that nothing is available. Atlantis, you had loyal customers, but just lost them both.

For those who don’t want to read my whole review I’ll sum it up- the food was extremely overpriced and I didn’t find one good meal, two days with no water and a horrible massage at the spa. Stay at Baha Mar! Only thing I liked was the beach and the slides at Atlantis but not worth it for the price you pay. They have crystal clear beaches at Baha Mar as well with an aquarium at the pool!

Last summer I went on a cruise and my fiancé and I got an excursion at the Atlantis and I absolutely fell in love with their crystal clear beach so I decided to book a room there in Jan for his birthday since it has a casino A gorgeous beach and a night club.
My experience there was terrible, we booked a couples massage and the girl who assisted me had no experience in the massage field. She literally (and I’m not exaggerating) rubbed oil on my body for the whole 50 mins and had callus that was bothering me. When I turned around for her to rub my ears she was breathing heavily on my face and it was very uncomfortable and I didn’t want to be rude so I tried to turn my face to my left. She just didn’t even try nor was there any pressure on my back and I left with all my knots. My fiancé said his was good but they need to educate and train ALL their staff, no one should have to pay $180 to get oil rubbed on their back. My second negative experience was that two out of the four nights I stayed we had no water running, there was apparently a broke pipe and they had to turn it off, so I had construction on the roof of my room being done really early morning and it was hard to sleep through and all they did was credit me $150 for my expenses when I paid around $450 a night! And my third bad experience was the food! A little sandwich would cost us $60 because they include some additional tax fee and gratuity and the food did not even taste good! I did not have one good meal the time I stayed there and the food was ridiculously overpriced! The water park was fun and the scenery and beach are nice but save your money and stay at baha mar! I had to leave atlantis the last night and book there and was willing to lose my $450 for the night. They have great food, beautiful beach, a casino and nightlife with about 5 pools and one of the pools has a mini aquarium with sharks and sea turtles.

We looked forward to going to Atlantis but were extremely disappointed. Just the VAT tax alone is egregious. If you have kids and they are excited about going to Atlantis because they've seen the hyped commercial......, don't believe the commercial, stay at maybe the new Baha Mar property and only go to Atlantis for a day, if at all. The Bahamas are gorgeous but don't come just to go to take your kids to Atlantis. It's not worth it!!!! If you are an adult with no kids, there is nothing here for you. Stay far awaylll

Someone needs to go floor by floor and room by room and gut everything including a an upgrade of the outside. The beds are poor, the toilet makes loud noises at night because there is not enough water so water gets sucked from other rooms to manage toilets etc. Our toilet did not have any water in it because the water was being sucked by someone else toilet or shower. Also our toilet was so loud, they never came to fix it, that we had to close the bathroom doors so we could sleep. Our toilet never backed up into our room but others did. We also didn't have hot water for showering. No coffee left in the room but that didn't matter because when it was the coffee pot didn't work.didn't matter because the coffee maker didn't work unless you had hours to wait for it to drip.
Yes there is coffee downstairs, a small cup will cost you close to 5 dollars.
Carpet is dirty and old, chairs are run down, I could go on and on.

The outside is just as run down. The beach chairs are bad, for the price they need to be more lush,, the food is poor and very expensive, there are lines and crowds everywhere, like a bad Disneyland. Even lines to get into some restaurants.

My understanding is MGM Grand bought it recently so as a hotel chain, they will probably come in and just gut everything over time. However in most recent years it was owned by venture capitalists who see it only as a cash cow but did not put any money back into the property. At the time it was managed by Marriott but they stopped managing it, I'm sure because they didn't want their name associated with any property that looks and runs like this one.

My last visit to this wonderful island was over thirty years ago. The developers of the Atlantis have taken over the island and paved everything. The Royal at Atlantis is nice enough if you want a Las Vegas-Disney experience at an amazingly high cost. The Royal is clean and neat. The staff is nice but you can tell they resent you being there and only assist you because it is their job. This island and hotel are designed to give you a sanitized experience while stripping your pocketbook. Fifteen dollar hot dogs? You have got to be kidding me. I am very wealthy but also know the value of a dollar. The beach areas are average to below average because of the riptides. I would only recommend this location for the super-wealthy ( which it is designed for) and those that need to be seen. The boat dockage area is tight but nice. Shopping available.

Ok I wish someone had written these things before my trip. Yes Atlantis is beautiful and the people are extremely friendly and welcoming! Things I didn’t know and wish I had... The pools close daily at 5pm!!! So unless you plan On going to casino every night there is nothing else to do. The movies at the pool are not daily, in fact we were there for 4 nights and it never happened. The restaurants are not always open, we ended up going to the same ones. There is no poolside or beachside service. When you are thirsty you must walk to everything. The cost is unreal. To go to dinner for just 2 people was atleast $200 a night. Out of the 2 hot tubs only 1 was warm not even hot. They advertise room service is 24 hrs, however, we were on hold for 30 mins before giving up. This was a fun trip because it was only us adults but we would never bring our kids here. The swim with dolphins or feed turtles etc is basically puting on a wet suit for pictures, NOT worth it:(. The best time was going into town to shop and going to Senior Frogs where music is loud and fun atmosphere. The shopping in Atlantis is very high end, Gucci etc.. We love gambling so the casino entertained us but with kids it would of been horrible trying to entertain them every night from 5pm til bedtime. We will stick to FL beaches where we can have ice chests and quicker walks to bars/food. I love Bahamas but won’t go back to Atlantis.

We arrived at 11am, check in wasn’t until 4pm. When we tried checking in but our room was not ready, we were told to check back in at 2pm. We tried again at 2pm and the they told us that management has to check the room after it’s cleaned to make sure it is ready for the guest. At 4pm when we finally got our key in the west royal tower, the room was already occupied. There were belongings of other guest therefore, obviously wasn’t “checked my management”! They switched our room and again wasn’t checked by management because there were old baby milk bottles in the refrigerator. The room are out dated, the bathroom had a horrible smell. The property is nice but it’s not made for kids. There was a kiddy section with water slides but the water was soooo cold. The deepest part of the kiddy section is about 3 feet at least warm up the water for the children.

The day we checked out there was a water leak on the 7th floor(we were on the 9th floor), they shut down the elevator. We we not notified until we were heading towards the elevator with our luggage and realized it was shut down. We were traveling with 2 toddlers. My husband had to carry all 3 large suitcase down 9 flights. When we finally got all of our belongings down to the ground level there were about 5 staff offering to get our bags to the lobby, really? At least a courtesy phone call to let us know the issues and offer help to the guest who are checking out. All in all, it is not worth spending your money at this very crowded place. After you check in you’re just a number.

Firstly no, this is not worthy of the 'Autograph Collection' label it's got. Marriot themselves describe them as boutique hotels that are 'unique in design and thoughtful in spirit' ... And a boutique hotel this is not. It's hell on earth for those who are seeking a pleasant and relaxing holiday.

Those who are not from the US and not familiar with Atlantis, may be easily fooled by the description on the Marriott Bonvoy app, like we were.

There's thousands of people everywhere, incl. many cruise ship visitors. The beaches and pool areas are constantly overcrowded with hundreds of children running around, and the place is just too noisy. There are no adult only areas for those who want to get away from all the noise.

The beach is beautiful but ruined by the overcrowding and good luck getting a sunbed. And good luck getting food at the restaurants outside during the day, near the beaches. We waited 45 min just to be able to order a single sandwich on our first day during lunch hour. My friend waited another 40. And it was then 15min just to order a drink from the bar. It's ridiculous. And the food quality is below average.

We tried the Chop Stix restaurant on our first night and although it's advertised as fine dining, it was far from that. The service was friendly but not right. We booked a table for 9 but didn't get to sit down until 20min later. A lot of the food we ordered they didnt have (and they never informed us of such at ordering) and so they just replaced the missing dishes with other dishes without asking us first. That's just unacceptable and it's never happened to me before in any restaurant, ever. The floors were filthy. Only good thing is that the food was tasty, but no better than a good quality Chinese takeaway, definitely not worth the exorbitant prices they charge.

The rooms are dated and the water smells of sewer. There's no sound isolation and we can hear people on both sides of our room and outside our door all the time. Only pros are the bed, which is comfortable, and the views of the ocean.

We still have two days left here and we cannot wait to leave and never come back. If you're looking for a relaxing holiday then look elsewhere, we heard The Cove next door is the choice for those seeking a more serene experience. Wish we had done more extensive research and booked that from the get go, instead of relying on the description on the Bonvoy app. A lesson for next time!

I like the Royals location. You can access everything from there. It’s in the middle of all the slides and activities . There’s also shops and snack bars in the lobby. I really enjoyed the beach in the Coral area because it was less crowded with a calm easy slope and great views of turtles moving through. Bring goggles or a mask.

Hi: I'll try to help. The short answer is "it depends." First of all, towels are plentiful. Second, I can't sit in the sun, so I'm always looking for shade, when I'm at the pools... It's never been a problem. So, do you "need" a cabana? Probably not. That said, if you're traveling with a lot of people, the cabana might be a convenient place to meet and hang out. The cabanas are very nice... and the service is good... but they're pretty expensive and I didn't see their real value (a few years ago, we were given a free cabana as part of a casino promo. It was just the two of us and we hardly used it, as we were out at the water park). I hope that's helpful. - Phil
