My husband and I stayed at Sandals Royal Bahamian 1/20-1/24, and we had an overall wonderful experience. A couple points of reference for this review - We are from the Northeast US, early 40s, stayed 3 full days, and stayed in the West Bay Honeymoon Oceanview One Bedroom Butler Suite.
Arrival - we had a Rolls Royce transfer to/from the airport. Marky Mark was our driver upon arrival and Ricky Ricardo was our driver back to the airport. Both were engaging and entertaining, and we learned a lot about them and Bahamian history during our rides!
Weather - temps were in the mid-70s to low 80s with some cloud cover each day. These temps felt wonderful to us and we spent our days in swimsuits at the private island, beach or pool. We didn't spend a lot of time outside after nightfall, but I wore short/long dresses and shorts to dinner, and was comfortable walking to and from our room. The west pool was heated while we were there and was very comfortable.
Room - our room looked exactly as the pictures on the website when we booked. There are technically 2 sides to the resort. West is the "party" side and East is the "quiet" side. We were on the west and loved it as we could enjoy the evening festivities from our balcony. The music ended around 10:30 pm each night and didn't start again until at least 10 am the next day.
Butler Service - our butlers were Doreen and Junior, and they were great! Our room had a bottle of champagne on ice and a savory snack upon our arrival, which was lovely after traveling and while getting settled into our room. When we travel we enjoy visiting local wineries and doing a wine tasting - we shared this with our butlers and asked them what they could do. They delivered 8 bottles of wine to our room, and we had a pizza and charcuterie tray delivered to our room at a specified time our final full day. This proved to be a delicious lunch and wine tasting!
Food/Restaurants - for dinner we dined at Butch's, La Plume and Tesoro. Butch's was definitely our favorite - the Surf and Turf is delicious - we visited there twice! La Plume was our least favorite - we tried it due to wanting to try French cuisine, and were underwhelmed. We don't think this is a Sandals thing, moreso that we're just not a fan of the cuisine. Tesoro - loved the antipasti bar and the chicken parm is delicious. We recommend waiting to order to your main course until after you've enjoyed the antipasti bar - our main course orders came out minutes after we visited the bar and felt a little rushed. For breakfast we visited the buffets at Tesoro or Kanoo each morning - both were good, but eggs definitely are not great at either location. For lunch our faves were the risotto at the restuarant on the private island and the pizza/charcuterie/wine we had arranged on our balcony.
Ultimately, we had a lovely time and very much enjoyed our visit. We will definitely recommend this resort to our family and friends, and are looking forward to another Sandals visit soon!

My wife and I stayed at the Sandals Royal Bahamian (SRB) resort located on the island of Nassau in the Bahamas from 13-20 July 2024. Though we have previously stayed at other Sandals & Beaches resorts in Turks & Caicos and Antigua, this was our first time at the Royal Bahamian and we were booked in room 611 of the East Bay building which is categorized as an East Bay Honeymoon Beachfront Butler Suite (BP). Overall, our time at the resort proved to be a great, positive experience with just a few minor quibbles here & there.
Resort observations: The resort was recently renovated to very good effect and the updates were evident throughout, inside & out. The resort footprint itself is quite compact as compared to the other brand properties we have stayed at it, it never felt crowded to us. Though many chairs were reserved each morning by butlers, there appeared to be many more chairs around the various pools and beach available well into each morning, up to maybe 10:30. The property was extremely well maintained, was VERY clean, and the grounds were immaculate though greenspace was limited due to the small resort footprint.
Room: We really loved our room which had a true beachfront view. The room had the benefit of being recently renovated with new décor and had ample outlets which had USB A & C plugs by the nightstands. The AC worked great and we kept it set to 66 throughout the stay (though if you open the balcony door, it will shut off). There were double sinks, hand-held and regular showers, and water pressure varied but was mostly decent. Rooms had an iron & ironing board along with a hair dryer, hair straightener, and a curling wand. The bed was huge and fairly comfortable (but a bit hard for me personally). The best part was the view of the beach and hearing the gentle waves wash up on the beach as soon we opened the sliding door to the balcony.
Butlers: We had a 2-person butler team (Sterling and Kevinson) during our stay which was different from our other Sandals butler experience where we had a 3-person team. We found our butlers to be personable, attentive, and professional. Sterling especially often texted or called to see if we needed anything and Kevinson would come by our chairs to bring us drinks or just to check in with us. Sterling told us up-front that his primary goal was to make our vacation as stress-free and enjoyable as possible without being intrusive and that was certainly the case for us. He found a stock of IPA beers for me somewhere which I really appreciated and he also helped my wife immensely when she woke up one morning with some tummy issues with his recommendations for warm ginger ale which helped her A LOT.
Food: Fully understanding that taste is subjective, we found the food to be anywhere from good to great (with one notable exception). We tried to eat at least one meal at every option and my favorite meal was the lamb shank from the French restaurant La Plume while my wife’s was sushi at Soy. The pizzas we had were excellent and we both enjoyed the breakfast buffets (Kanoo & Tesoro) as well as the ala carte breakfast at La Plume. We thought both the dinners at Tesoro’s were enjoyable which also had a very good antipasto bar, and great bread. Butches, the chop house was also quite good and the steaks were cooked absolutely perfectly. My wife really loved her ribs and Chicken Quesadilla from Aralia house on the private island and I though their jerk chicken was pretty good as well. Unfortunately, the dinner we had at Gordon’s on the Pier was frankly not good at all. I tried the signature swordfish steak dinner and I had to use a steak knife to literally saw through the fish. Also, my wife’s filet from the surf & turf dinner was barely cooked and had a weirdly off-putting taste and texture and neither one of us could eat more than a bite of it.
The private island: Twice during our stay we took the boat over to the private island and both times we enjoyed ourselves. It’s a much more secluded and relaxed experience than even the quiet pool on resort property with its own restaurant, bars, a small pool, lots of paths to explore, and beaches on both sides with lots of covered seating. Great snorkeling there as well but we did see a small shark right off the beach and other people mentioned they saw various kinds of rays as well.
Staff: One of the most common complaints I read about on social media regarding Sandals resorts are the mixed, if not downright poor attitudes from resort staff. My wife and I most strongly believe that you get what you give and we strive to be friendly, respectful, and appreciative to everyone we meet starting with the people at the Sandals desk at the airport, to those working throughout the resort, to the driver Oswaldo who took us to the airport for our return home. For our experience, we found the vast majority of SRB staff to be friendly, professional, happy to help us, and just genuinely nice people who always greeted us with a hello or wished us a good morning during our walk to the pool or beach. That said, we did meet a rare few here & there who were ambivalent, got annoyed at a request, or looked just downright unhappy to be there.
Shoutouts for Outstanding Service: Our Butlers who I mentioned previously.
Valentino, bartender at the Coconut Grove bar, an excellent mixologist with a bright attitude and friendly smile who introduced my wife to her new-found love of chocolate martinis.
Micah, the East Bay pool drink attendant who came around first thing with the drink of day and was always looking for opportunities to refill your glass, take away your empties, or find you some towels or a chair in the shade.
Darcy, a server at Tesoro who was one of the only servers to check on us throughout our meals to see if we needed drink refills and who went above & beyond to get us a dessert we mentioned we loved from one of the other restaurants.
David at the Aquacenter who took us out on a hobie cat sailboat and found us some sea turtles to watch swimming.
Ms. Tanya from the Redlane Spa who my wife said was knowledgeable, professional and very kind to her during her massage.
Quibbles & Concerns: The social media talk of the mold / mildew smell in the West Bay building is not exaggerated and goes well beyond the “What do you expect, it’s a beach hotel in the Caribbean?” level. We can’t speak for the rooms, but we did go in to take a look around and the smell is quite apparent and personally, we would not stay in that building until they figure out how to alleviate it.
Housekeeping was very good and they always did an excellent job keeping the room neat, clean, & stocked with toilet tissue, soap, shampoo, etc. and the minifridge was aways refilled daily with waters, sodas, and whatnot every day. But they were inconsistent. Sometimes they came at 9:00 am, other times they came at 2:00 pm, sometimes they would leave 4 new towels, other times 6, other times 2. And even though the towels were refreshed 6 out of 7 nights while we were out for dinner, only twice did a turndown service happen despite requesting it nightly.
GINA – The Sandals app feature where you can report things or make requests needs work as the one time I tried to use it to get some new towels, none ever arrived despite getting a response from the housekeeping manager acknowledging the request. Sidebar - Called Sterling the butler who came thru in short order with a whole new set of towels.
Room coffee was not the signature Jamaican Blue Mountain we were so looking forward to sipping on the balcony but was instead this Royal Cup Rainforest Select brand you can get in any Holiday Inn Express. Very disappointing…
One bartender at the East Bay swim-up pool bar clearly & intentionally skipped us on multiple occasions when we tried to order a drink. The only reason I can think of is that we didn’t tip him immediately as I did see others surreptitiously do…
We ended our stay with a decent meal at the hibachi restaurant Kimonos but it was an odd experience as the chef was cooking and serving us main dish items from the grill well before the appetizers arrived which caused a large plate pile-up in the very limited space in front of each person dining.
Bars on occasion did appear to run out of certain liquors & ingredients and drinks were inconsistent in both strength and how they were made. For us beer drinkers, a much better selection of beer beyond Kalick & Sands would be appreciated. I actually saw guys who were staying at an all-inclusive resort have to go across the street to the local liquor store to buy cases of their preferred beer.
The food trucks were pretty good but there was no dedicated lunch or dinner buffets. Totally a personal thing for us but sometimes we like the simplicity of just being able to grab a quick plate of whatever looks good from a buffet and then get back to the beach or pool.
Our room was apparently under the East Bay gym and twice very early we were woken up to the ongoing thump thump thump thump of large footfalls from someone running on a treadmill above us.
Finally, there was no enforcement of the “resort evening” dress code at any of the 3 restaurants which supposedly required men to have long pants and closed toe shoes to eat there. Don’t get me wrong, I firmly believe the long-pants requirement is completely unnecessary and I don’t personally care if shorts and shirts (with or without collars) are worn in any restaurant. But we were specifically told at check-in and again by our butlers of the dress code for these 3 restaurants and then to see each time it didn’t appear to matter at all was annoying as I could have just left the pants at home had I known…
Overall though we had a really enjoyable experience and will definitely be staying there again I think.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveler reviews.
Had a great time! Food was solid, there were plenty of drinks, and got some beach time both at the resort and at the private island. Staff were almost all friendly and helpful, and the one or two exceptions were a distinctly small portion of a large staff. My wife and I noted staff that seemed particularly good - both Toriana at Soy and Fanir at Butch's were exceptional servers, and Shevy was great at the beach bar when we were hiding from the rain on a bad weather day. Also had servers bring drinks out on the beach while we were in chairs out there, which was great.
Read some of the negative reviews before going, and I think they are largely overblown. I had room service every day, mini bar stocked daily, and a clean room. I did experience the occasional mishap, but most were promptly resolved when I notified staff through the app. Only unresolved mishap was that hand towels were missing one day, and my request for one went acknowledged but unresolved. I used other towels instead. Hardly the horror story you can read elsewhere.
I had a great time and great service even at the lowest room category (neither club nor butler level), and so while it seems like a lot of the very positive reviews are from butler level guests, wanted to note for anyone reading this that you can have a good time in the cheaper rooms too. I would return to this resort again.

Check-in wasn’t a great start, no walk of the restaurants or guide around the resort, in all my Sandals stays this was the first time this had happened. As it was the first time I didn’t have a butler suite or a club suite it’s clear that those who book a cheaper room are treated as second class citizens in the Bahamas. On entering my room I was greeted by a cockroach, my room was on the 4th floor so not sure how this happened, this was the first of four cockroaches I encountered throughout my stay. House keeping was not great, I had to clean the shower glass myself on one occasion is was that bad and they also left dirty glasses from someone else’s room in our room once cleaned. Some staff are great (Micah!) whilst others are rude and don’t provide a great service. Every restaurant except Butches served plates of food one at a time meaning my group (of 4) were eating at a restaurant at different times and watching each other eat their food. One part of the beach was spotless whilst two days back to back the right hand side had a build up of seaweed and was t cleaned. It goes without saying the stay was bad, really bad. I do not advise anyone to visit Sandals Bahamas, better to go to Sandals Riyal Barbados, the staff there are amazing and resort is 100 times better than the Bahamas

I’ve read some of the reviews here and can’t help but wonder where these guests usually stay! In my opinion, this is a lovely hotel, and I would happily recommend it and return.
We stayed on the East side of the hotel on the 3rd floor. The room was clean and comfortable, and the corridors and lifts were well-maintained.
The food was generally of good quality. While breakfast was a bit repetitive, this is to be expected with an all-inclusive buffet. Drinks quality varied depending on the bar. The pool bars tended to serve overly strong drinks with too much ice, which wasn’t enjoyable. However, Mr. B’s bar and the Balmoral bar stood out for their excellent drink quality. A special mention to Philip and Jason at the Balmoral bar for their fantastic service—I hope they get well-deserved bonuses! Syd at Mr. B’s was also very professional and made great cocktails.
Entertainment during the day was plentiful, but the evenings were a let-down. The lack of variety, such as live bands, was noticeable, and the entertainment venue—a small, unappealing room behind the Queen’s Pearl pub—did not match the hotel’s overall standard.
The gym deserves praise: it was well-equipped, spotless, and offered a stunning view of the sea.
We visited the island once and found it underwhelming. Arriving closer to lunchtime helped avoid the queue for the boat. While the restaurant was nice, the pool was small and messy, and the beach area had broken and uncomfortable sunbeds, which detracted from the experience.
As for the hotel pools, the West pool was lively and could get rowdy at times, but the East pool provided a peaceful alternative. I’m not sure what others are complaining about since there’s something for everyone.
The only frustration was the reserving of sunbeds. Without a butler, it’s hard to secure a good spot, as many beds are reserved but left unused. While staff were accommodating and moved ice buckets upon request, this system could be improved.
Overall, despite a few shortcomings, the hotel offers a great experience, and I wouldn’t hesitate to come back!

This hotel is by far the prettiest we have ever been to, all interior is well thought out and the entire resort is extremely pleasing to the eye.
The food (once you were finally able to get served) was faultless, all food was absolutely delicious. La Plume does the best breakfast (A La Carte) along with the best evening meal but you would need to book this as soon as you arrive.
The service offered from almost all staff was absolutely abysmal. They all look as though the do not want to be there, you are made to feel like an inconvenience and hardly anyone is willing to help (I could go on for hours)
The alcohol and general beverage options and availabilities were sub par, considering what you are paying to be there. They were constantly running out of alcohol, or one side of the bar would be telling you something is unavailable and the next minute someone else would be served with the exact thing you requested.
It was a mission on our behalf to ensure we had a full room service, 3 times we had our used towels removed from the room but no replacements and then we had to call several times to get fresh ones.
The evening entertainment is more suited to a retirement home, nearly everything finished around or before 10pm.
When attempting to be seated at one of the walk in restaurants we were often advised that any party larger than 2 was difficult to accommodate.
In spite of all my above criticisms there were a few staff which went above and beyond (Kendrika, Static, Micah, Leonardo, and the lady serving drinks on the beach)
In conclusion, I will not recommend this hotel to anyone as I did not feel we received value for money.

We sincerely appreciate your positive feedback regarding the aesthetics of our resort and the quality of our culinary offerings. At Sandals, we take pride in creating a visually appealing environment and providing delicious dining experiences for our guests. La Plume's breakfast and evening meals are indeed highlights, and we are delighted to hear that you enjoyed them. However, we are disappointed to learn of your less than satisfactory experiences with certain aspects of our service. It is certainly not indicative of the standard of hospitality we strive to uphold. Rest assured, your feedback will be shared with our management team for further review and improvement. At Sandals, we aim to ensure that every guest feels welcomed and valued throughout their stay, and we apologize for any inconvenience or frustration you may have experienced. Totally disappointed upon arrival entered our room over looking a storage area the window did not open. After one use of shower had to remove shower drain cover to remove clogged hair from previous guests. Following day returned after ‘housekeeping’ visit surprised to find coffee machine and cups not cleaned and coffee not replaced, informed reception staff but this happened every day for the next seven days One our first day asked to make reservations at the speciality restaurants was told we would be informed when this had been done, no contact made again visited reception on day four to be told our reservations had been made for the previous days and no future reservations were available. We stayed 7 nights and NEVER got an opportunity to visit any specialty restaurant. Some staff were lovely but half gave the impression guests were a nuisance! The staff in the sweet truck never smiled on the many visits we made. We visited the water sports excursion centre to be told this was cash only and could not be charged to our room! The only consistently good staff members were at Gordon’s restaurant they were outstanding unlike the front of house staff at the sushi restaurant albeit the chefs were excellent. Totally disappointed as were several other guests we spoke to. We asked for a late check out and was eventually given a ‘hospitality’ room for $100 which was the final straw the room had mould on the walls and had a dreadful odour. This hotel clearly has incompetent management do not visit at any cost T

We stayed on the 6th floor in the West Bay. Although we put the room service light on everyday room cleaning, trash removal etc was non existent. We was suppose to have turn down service. We had to ask for fresh towels daily to employees. Our bed pillows were less than desirable and woke up in the mornings with an aching back from the mattress. We tried to make reservations to eat at two of the finer restaurants offered but to no avail booked solid with reservations during our 4 night stay. Unless you had a butler room obtaining chairs by the pool was tougher as well as they are reserved for those rooms. One would hope that for the expenses we incurred to enjoy ourselves it would be better thought out for everyone. In room dining was okay I suppose for the few times we had it. They took our orders over the phone after calling multiple times they finally answered and still missed items every time. The wedding we were attending turned out beautiful all things considered. Unfortunately for the wedding couple their things didnt go as ideally as they had wished but they still married in a beautiful place. We still managed to enjoy ourselves even with these hiccups of service.

Island Village location: ( was supposed to be East Bay swimup) 1. Why does this resort think it is ok to wake us all up with very loud gas powered leaf blowers at 7am? We’ve all paid for these rooms and are entitled to some peace. Not everyone is awake by 7am when on holiday. 2. Likewise how does Sandals Royal Bahamian have the gall to think it is perfectly fine to hold evening wedding receptions with loud music in locations that are right up against the island village rooms? It is not ok. They can find other locations for these receptions where guests are not disturbed. They can also tell the dj that he needs to have more than one music tape as the bop selection is getting very repetitive at this resort. 3. Before the trip (but after we had paid in full), Sandals wrote to tell us what a wonderful time we were going to have and casually mentioned they would be renovating the East Bay building. This was where we had booked a quiet swim up room. The note did not mention a room change. It is just plain rude, disrespectful and inconsiderate to send a breezy advertising type note like this and neglect to even mention a room change nor how Sandals would be handling it. Sandals did not follow up later with a phone call or a note, we had to call them ourselves to find out our reserved room would not be available. This reeks of really bad service. 4. The room rebooking took place after we placed two phone calls and finally insisted on speaking to a senior booking agent. Prior to this we dealt with someone who, even after we gave her the booking number, still wanted to take 20 minutes to confirm every last detail of our booking information (date of birth, passport number etc), after which she did absolutely nothing except tell us someone would call us back. No-one called us back. After refusing to go through the reconfirm every possible detail process a second time we begged and finally spoke with a senior agent located in Jamaica. She was unfamiliar with the Royal Bahamian resort layout and quiet v noisy areas. She did not know if the tennis courts were also under renovation. Her attitude was such that if she offered us an upgrade all was ok. We did not want an upgrade we wanted what we’d booked and it wasn’t available in either East Bay or West Bay. At no point were we offered our money back.
Still waiting to hear from the manager at this resort. It is obvious Sandals will attempt to get as much profit as it can at the expense of customer consideration and customer satisfaction. It’s a beautiful resort but beware and go stay somewhere else.

Days without the room being made up, washcloths missing ob the days they did make it up, or hand towels or both, the service was lacking or came with an attitude. We brought it it management's attention from the get go and yet still nothing was done.
The food was decent most of the time however the service was pitiful. Most dinners were over 2 hours and pushed 3 at times to hopefully get what we ordered. Many times drinks were missing or appetizers. We were so disappointed. We missed a snorkeling trip because security took over an hour and 10 minutes to unlock our safe which they locked and told us they'd be up in less than 10 minutes initially (we couldn't go because my wife's medication was inside the safe).
The minibar was rarely restocked and my request for a switch of the scotch, vodka or gin which no one touches for a bourbon was ignored the entire 8 nights e even though we were told that it would be no problem and they were doing it on 6 different days.
The roach crawling across the bar in the Pearl was the final straw .
Never again.
