Garden by the sea is a little gem in the island of St. John. We loved every part of our stay, but especially the beautiful foliage, birds and Eileen's homemade breakfast. Can't wait to go back with our kids!
Walkability is important to walk into Cruz Bay for shopping, dinner & drinks. Some places are close, but not truly walkable. We also wanted a sense of seclusion. It's hard to find a place that is secluded AND close, but then we found Garden by the Sea. It's that secret place that you discover & immediately fall in love with it... the place to stay if you want to experience St. John Island living. Garden by the Sea is nestled in a garden of coconut palms, genip trees, almond trees, hibiscus & ficus trees, so that you feel like you are staying miles away from the hustle & bustle of Cruz Bay. In fact, you are an easy, short walk from it. Just take a walkable trail alongside Small Pond & out to gorgeous Frank Bay, past Gallows Point (& the peacocks!) and you are there, with all of the restaurants, shopping & fun of the city. It’s the best of both worlds! The B&B is delightful. We chose the Terrace Room with a view of the Bay. There is a common area with a deck frequented by sugar birds & hummingbirds. The iguanas hang out in the trees around the property sunning themselves. Hosts Eileen & John make you feel at home. From island trivia, island living tips & intriguing stories, we felt like locals when we left. Eileen treated us to fantastic breakfasts (her eggs Benedict is delish!). While we stayed, Hurricane Dorian hit us as a Category 1. They prepared a nice dinner because the island had a curfew. If you want a great spot to enjoy the island, Cruz Bay & relax, this is the place! …
We spent 13 nights with Eileen and John. They were great hosts. they gave us great info on what to do on St. John. they have beach chairs, coolers and snorkel equipment if you need it. I would recommend renting a jeep to get around the island as the taxis won't go everywhere on the island. I was leery driving on the left side of the road initially, but it wasn't too bad. They provided a great breakfast every morning to get your day started. At night we waled to town to eat at one of the restaurants. we enjoyed their dogs, Cooper and Fiona. We are already planning a trip back for next year and will stay there again.
from the location to the hosts, John and Eileen are absolutely amazing. Everything you could think of, Garden by The Sea has - beach chairs, towels, an awesome common area to play dominoes and literally a 5 minute walk to all the bars and shops in town ( 8 minutes coming home from the bars ) Cant wait to come back next year! it was MINT
We love Eileen and John! They were the greatest hosts! Enjoyed every minute of our stay at the Garden by the Sea. Beautiful location and we had a wonderful breakfast every morning. Really enjoyed all the wildlife watching while eating breakfast. Loved the outdoor showers. I can not wait to go back again!
