Paradise found. Beautiful grounds, excellent views and snorkeling. So close to town you can walk to every restaurant even mongoose junction. Maids were great. Gift shop has drinks and some food. You can walk to grocery store. Snorkel out to platform and look for the octopus on your way! Can’t wait to go back!!!

Gallows Point is a lovely property. The grounds are beautiful and very well-maintained. The staff is always friendly and happy to help. Our room 8A had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. This is our 3rd time at Gallows Point and we’ll definitely return. A few favorites from Gallows Point- Walking the grounds, the plants are gorgeous. Hanging out on the patio with the peacocks and iguanas. The view of sunsets and rainbows. Resting in one of the several hammocks on the property. Swimming and snorkeling right on the property. The pool and hot tub area and shaded pavilion provides several options for taking in the views while relaxing by the water. The filtered water station and the free laundry facilities are both nice conveniences. The proximity to Cruz Bay is another reason we will always consider Gallows Point first.

Our room was 9D and was an upper level. The room was spacious and very clean with a great view of the bay and the sunset. Next time we will take a lower level to save our old knees on the stairs. Be sure to request a room facing the bay and as far from the restaurant as you can get to avoid noises (toward town is VERY noisy and the restaurant can be too). This is a very nice resort.

This was our first trip to St John and we traveled with several other couples to celebrate some birthdays and finally getting a break from all of our young kids after a year and a half of COVID. We rerouted to St John instead of our fav place, Bermuda, because of the more relaxed COVID procedures. Booking was super easy and accommodating. Once we arrived we were excited about the view, the pool and the location in proximity to the town. Maybe it was because we were there off season, but the islanders both at the hotel and in Cruz Bay time and time again at different places annoyed that we were there. They yelled at people without warning about wearing masks. The hotel rooms were “ok”. Certainly not the cleanest for a four star place. We found an unknown substance on the painting above our bed. We had to put the sign out for our room to actually be cleaned when we were initially told every other day (which was fine). One very important NOTE is that the pool and hot tub closes not a minute past 9 and you are no longer allowed to even hang out on the seating on a giant three tiered deck. There will be no compromise about the “Peaceful Pool Rules”. One final note that matters to me is that we were all eaten up by bugs throughout the week. One local told me that St John has no-see-ums, mosquitoes and sand fleas. Yikes.

Dear LMThompsonKY, Thanks for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you found the locals to be frustrated about enforcing visitors to wear masks. The Virgin Islands law requires everyone to wear masks in public spaces, especially inside places of business. While we don't condone rudeness, we do empathize with employees and business owners who have been given the responsibility to continually remind visitors to abide by our laws (if they don't, the business can be fined!). It is unfortunate this had a negative impact on your stay. Regarding the cleanliness of your room - we are extremely surprised and disappointed to hear that the room was not cleaned to your satisfaction! We usually receive excellent feedback about our housekeeping team so this came as a surprise to us. We have discussed your feedback with the team to ensure there is no more confusion regarding the housekeeping schedule and to make sure all items (such as artwork and paintings) are properly cleaned and dusted prior to each arrival. Again, we apologize for this. We DO enforce the Peaceful Pool Rules so that other guests can enjoy a peaceful vacation. One of the many reasons guests enjoy our resort is for the peace and quiet it offers. If we allowed exceptions to our posted pool closure time, this would negatively impact other guests whose rooms are near the pool. We are sorry we could not make an exception for your group. Finally, it is true that the Virgin Islands has no-see-ums, mosquitoes, and sand fleas (not actually fleas, but crustaceans). You will find this to be the case for all other islands in the Caribbean as well. While we cannot control these insects existence on our beaches, we recommend avoiding sandy areas certain times of day when they come out - early morning and after 4pm. We also recommend using bug repellent for the mosquitoes, which our onsite convenient store offers for sale. Usually, the lovely trade winds help keep the mosquitoes away, but there are times in the summer and rainy season when they are more prevalent, and we recommend wearing lightweight, long sleeved shirts and pants (such as linen) in the evenings to help protect you, especially for those who are sensitive or allergic to mosquito bites!

We managed to get a room when we were in a bind with the villa we had rented. The unit had everything we needed for nights we chose to stay in and cook, and the bed was super comfortable. The living room was decorated with wicker furniture, pretty typical for Caribbean accommodations, but it’s not the most plush stuff for sitting. That’s okay though- no need for sitting there when you can chill out on the patio and watch the boats go by. We were also happy about being able to walk to Cruz Bay for dinner and shopping. Most importantly- the staff were friendly and helpful, and they maintain their facilities very well. Everything was clean and orderly. Grounds are beautiful, on land and sea- snorkeling off the point is a must! Only issue we found is not enough parking- but you can just park in their lot and leave the keys with the front desk. No big deal :)
