A House of Open Arms is a beautiful vacation villa and cottage on the peninsula of Fortsburg in Coral Bay, St. John, USVI. 75% of St. John is Nat'l Park and we are located just outside of it overlooking Nat'l Park waters of Hurricane Hole, East End and beyond to Norman Island in the British Virgin Islands. We have solar water power and we are on the grid so we have air conditioning too! 180 degree white water views wrap around this delightful one bedroom villa and charming one bedroom cottage. The villa is 1000 square feet and has 1 bedroom, living room, kitchen, bathroom, veranda and pool. The cottage is 650 square feet and has a wrap around porch, outdoor cooking area, front entryway, bedroom and an inside bathroom with an outdoor shower. Both areas are separate and very private. The cottage is down the hill from the villa about 40 steps. While the cottage will only hold 2 people, the villa can accomodate small children easily. The property is owned and managed by Catherine Perry a local potter and watercolor artist. She is available for local knowledge, helping plan excursions, restaurant recommendations or any need you may have. House of Open Arms is located on a breathtakingly green, private hillside with constant, cool ocean breezes. Come relax in peaceful elegance and see how well you can live while staying in balance with the world around you!

Being from NJ, social distancing, mask-wearing, etc have all been a "normal" part of life since mid-March. Have been wanting to get away to a place where we feel safe and can enjoy nature, nice weather and simply put... VACATION! Well... House of Open Arms was the place!! The USVI is doing very well to contain COVID-19 and we went through the necessary steps to make our journey a reality. Once on island... everyone is extremely friendly and happy you are there. Heading east to Coral Bay and you enter the "sanctuary" side of the island. House of Open Arms truly embodies that and more! This time we stayed at The Cottage (have previously stayed at The Villa) and were extremely pleased with our accommodations! From the super comfy queen size bed to the windows offering sea breezes to the 180 degree breath-taking view to the incredible hospitality of Catherine... everything was PERFECT! Catherine sanitizes every area of the Villa and Cottage and is there when you need her. Another nice thing... she is also "not there" when you want your privacy! This was our 3rd stay at House at Open Arms... and certainly not our last! So during these challenging times I can honestly state that our visit to STJ and House of Open Arms was wonderful, safe and food for the soul! Safe travels to you all!

Property's Favorite Review
My husband and I stayed in the Villa at the House of Open Arms for 10 days in early June of 2020 in celebration of our 30th anniversary! I can't say enough great things about this beautiful property and its' incredible host! Catherine is truly an amazing woman and we are thankful to have met her and hope to revisit in the future. Her knowledge of St. John above and below the water is extraordinary so we chose to have her us escort us on 2 amazing snorkling excursions - can't divulge the locations so as not to spoil them:) We also had her cook us an additional dinner (3 course gourmet quality + she added a delicious dessert!) . BTW she delivers a delicious meal to all of her guests the first night of their stay - so appreciated after a long day of travel! Note: if you do wish to keep to yourselves throughout your trip you can absolutely do so too. The Villa has the most beautiful views, nice gentle breezes and the location was perfect for us too - there's some hiking down to the water and also to some very interesting ruins above. We loved walking by the roaming donkeys near the property - very cute and gentle. The ever so popular Skinny Legs restaurant/bar is very close by - informal, inexpensive drinks and decent food.. 100% rent a Jeep - Catherine meets you at the ferry and brings you to your Jeep rental location and then to the grocery store - you don't get this type of service at other rentals/hotels. My husband enjoyed his daily siesta in the comfortable hammock after our 3+ hours of daily snorkling (Catherine gave us insider tips on some other places that were "spectacular" and tips on the best entry spots for them). The bed was very comfortable and the AC in the bedroom worked very well! The furnishings were top notch and the kitchen was well stocked w/some extras we appreciated - honey, oil, vinegar, spices, her HOMEMADE granola - yum!!, delicious coffee w/french press+++. We loved taking a dip in the pool as well. Seriously book this place if you can find available dates - it is truly wonderful!

Just returned from a week long stay at House of Open Arms Cottage. Celebrating our 34th anniversary could not have been in a more perfect location. The views from the cottage showcase the beauty of St. John. The cottage offers everything you need and more. Catherine, the innkeeper for the cottage provides so many extra personal touches, pick up at the Cruz Bay dock, shopping bags ready for you to fill at your first visit to the market, delicious homemade granola, french press coffee, a welcome meal and the best advice on the most beautiful places to snorkel. We were also able to enjoy a four course anniversary meal, Catherine, is an amazing cook! We will remember our stay at House of Open Arms cottage for years to come and hope to make it back very soon.

Spectacular as alway! We love House of Open Arms and the innkeeper Catherine! From the welcome meal, to the recommendations for snorkeling, hiking and restaurant recommendations - you can’t beat her knowledge of the island. We also took advantage of her offerings of two additional meals and a personalized snorkel trip with her. All exceptional in every way, not to mention the beautiful sunrise every morning with the most gorgeous view- we came 6 years ago and hope to be back sooner this time! If you seek the quiet side of the island this is the place for you!

We just spent 8 days at this incredible cottage. I was apprehensive about driving the winding roads on the left hand side of the road, but it was much easier than anticipated. I actually came to enjoy driving the 4WD rental. Although roads to some of the out of the way trailheads are bumpy (to say the least) it was worth the effort to find our way to beaches with no or few other visitors. Similarly, the road to the HOOA is challenging, but it gets you to a place where you feel so safe that you don't need locks on the doors. The many roads in the area are so spacely traveled that you can drive at whatever speed you are comfortable and rarely are pushed. The snorkling is second to none. Catherine's hospitality is fantastic (I highly recommend purchasing extra dinners. Four course dinners that are healthy and gourmet quality.) We loved being in the middle of nature with the night time sounds and daytime birds, butterflies and other critters. Some might be put off by the numerous steps to the cottage, but my wife and I are hikers, and we just considered it a little daily exercise. My only complaint was the mosquitos on the veranda, so take extra deet spray. (There had been higher than normal rain before we arrived.)
