My husband and I stayed here for a week in mid Feb. The property is stunning, gorgeous views, clean pool areas and the beach was just amazing. The food is uber expensive yet mediocre at best and the service is like flipping a coin every time. The check in was easy and Shanique very kindly upgraded us to an ocean view room in the seaview tower at no charge. The room and bathroom were standard but the shower head had low pressure. Housekeeping did not clean our room until after 5pm on most days. Take advantage of their concierge and do the snorkel and BVI tours with them. We had a great time with the snorkel crew.

We used the Buoy Haus pool since the morning star beach is right next to it and this beach is just pristine and beautiful. There are exactly 95 stairs from the Westin property to the beach and they are guarded by a community of beautiful harmless iguanas. The view from the top of the stairs is magnificent! They ran out of towels at the Westin pools frequently and at the beach so we ended up getting towels at the Buoy Haus pool.

Just when I was about to leave with a great experience, their manager Dejanique, made the check out harder than it needed to be. I asked for an itemized statement since we opted for room charge at the restaurants. The itemized statement had all items that were charged to us but failed to show a credit that was due to us by the hotel since we made an overpayment. Instead of explaining that the so called "itemized" statement does not show all the items including the credit, she kept saying the credit is there and its been applied while rolling her eyes at me and being extremely condescending. I had to insist and ask for two separate statements where one showed the deductions and one showed the credits in order to see the full math. So just know that their check-out itemized statement does not show all of the items.

Overall, it was a great stay and we would be happy to stay here again.

on a side note, the taxis on this island added so much to our stress. they're expensive and difficult to get when you leave the Westin. The taxi dispatch # is 340-774-7457. Keep this handy since you will need to call them to come get you.

Overall the stay was very nice. The property was great including the pools, views, and available restaurants. I do feel it is rather overpriced but I think that’s just the standard for the USVI. $15+ for drinks, $35+ for any entree you order, often much more. One thing that really bothered me is that they charge you a $40 “towel fee” if you don’t return your pool towel by 8pm, however, the pool stays open until 11pm. That just feels like a slimy way to squeeze more money out of me tbh. How are you supposed to dry off if you’re using the pool after 8pm? They also charge a $75 daily resort fee on top of the nearly $1,000 per night room price.

The AC was only partially functional, set to 65 degrees the entire time but never made it down past 70 and would still shut off. The fire alarm in the room has a very bright blinking light which was disruptive to sleep.

The staff were overall very friendly and helpful and we really did have a great time, the resort is quite luxurious. However, at this price tag, the expectations of guests are going to be quite high.

Beautiful hotel nestled on the mountain so there are views all around and good sunsets. The hotel offers a free shuttle to their beach but it’s also walkable down a few stairs. Very clean and beautifully decorated. Loved that they provide water stations and refillable waters. Leroy at the front door was excellent. He was very kind to my family and offered many good suggestions of where to go.

This hote could be a 5 star, it just needs a few tweaks:
1. Nightly entertainment atleast on weekends.
2. Better pool towel tracking system. They don’t write down your room # or how many towels taken so oftentimes they would run out of towels as people abuse.
3. More affordable restaurant options with some local food. The hotel restaurants were rather pricey and they were all just too upscale for our kid. Yes they had a few kids meals but overall think they could atleast offer a free shuttle to town. Taxi’s charge $9 per person each way.
4. Make the serenity pool the kids pool. There was a blonde manager that kicked kids out of the only warm shallow pool available. The kids are expected to use the deep cold pool in the middle.
5. Make it more kid friendly, add some more games for kids to play. Ping pong etc. or activities.

First the positive: Staff is friendly (not surly as some reviewers have stated) and helpful. But boy does this place need to get its act together. I booked an ocean view room but got a "harbor view" room. The harbor is not the ocean! The room was noisy due to music and entertainment from Frenchmen's Cove next door. I got locked outside on my balcony. The door has no instructions and if the handle is in the wrong position and you close the door to keep the bugs from getting in, it locks! I panicked and tried to call the front desk with my cell phone. There was no way to call the desk as the main phone number ONLY goes to reservations. I was trapped for half an hour until I was rescued by begging reservations to call the front desk. Speaking of the balcony, it still had the plastic construction wrap all around the door frame (see photo)! The light on the balcony malfunctioned, going on and off. Rooms are not made up at a reasonable hour. At a "beach resort" rooms should all be made up before about 4:00 pm or 5 at the latest, so that when people come back from the beach or pool they can shower and get ready for dinner. 2 days of my 7 days there, the room was not made up at all. 3 days it was made up in the evening. Only on 2 days was it made up before very late afternoon. I had a large rain head shower, but the water was just a trickle. The shower enclosure door wouldn't stay closed. Restaurants are spotty although service is friendly and meals did come fairly promptly. At Luna Mar, I ordered "Sicilian orecchiete" with broccolini and white beans - it came with one single tiny floret of broccoli and ZERO beans. At Sugarfin, I ordered "Tuna Poke Nachos" listed as coming with avocado, and it came with ZERO avocado. Breakfast buffet at Shorebird was quite nice except for the fresh fruit, which was sparse and awful. Salt Shack next door at the Buoy Haus is much better but the elevator to the Buoy Haus level was out of service the entire time I was there. And to top it all off, they impose a $75 daily "resort fee," a complete junk fee that should be disclosed when you book.

This is a very disappointing property. So let’s start with the fact that our room did not have air conditioning, working TV, and a refrigerator that would leak periodically all over the floor which we had to pack towels around. By the way we were spending over $700.00 a night for this mess. So we did what every other guest would do and went to speak to the manager and see if we could switch our room. Hotel management said that there was nothing they could do as they had no rooms to transfer us too. Our room stayed at about 80 degrees the whole 3 days we stayed there (we did try to find another property but most were fully booked). So we had to sleep on top of the sheets and would sweat right through them, did I mention that we were paying $700.00 a night?? Anyway, When I asked if we could speak to the GM the front desk manager said “ the General Manager does not talk to you people” that’s right, she said “you people”meaning guests. It is glaringly obvious that the staff at this place hates their jobs, most were like a school of fish, you could see them but if you approached them for help, directions, etc, they would run the other way, we made a game of chasing them down. The pool area looked like spring break with all the trash in and out of the pools and hotel staff would just pass by all the trash like it wasn’t there, just nasty. They did finally comp us a night for “our troubles (after begging for a fan to help us simply survive). Look the bottom line is; If you are unsure if you want to take a cruise to ST Thomas or stay on the island, TAKE THE CRUISE!! The midnight shift janitor on the cruise ship will take better care of you than the staff at this property. And before the hotel can drop their blah-blah-blah (We try our best) below, I have receipts, we took pictures and videos. On a positive note, the excursions outside the hotel were pretty fun but they really cater to the cruise ship guests so you may be better off there as well. Wish I could say that this Resort (said very loosely) made our vacation, but sadly it really hampered our experience. If we ever decide to come back to ST Thomas you can bet it will be on a cruise.

Our business trip led us to the Westin Frenchman’s Reef, but it's not a place I'd recommend returning to. The experience was marred by lengthy room delays for most of our group and abysmal service throughout. Restaurant staff seemed indifferent, leading to excruciatingly long dinners with missing menu items. Even when we brought our own snacks, housekeeping disposed of them while neglecting to clean properly. The hotel's remote location made transportation a hassle and incurred steep fees. Maintenance issues, like malfunctioning sliding doors and inadequate air conditioning, compounded our discomfort during meetings. Lunch breaks were marred by delays, leaving many without food. Adding insult to injury, they botched our credit card charges, leaving me with an unexpected $700 bill months later. It is inconceivable to me how such a significant charge could be processed without any prior notification or explanation. This demonstrates a blatant disregard for customer satisfaction and a lack of transparency in your billing practices. As a loyal Marriott Bonvoy member for many years, I am deeply disappointed by this experience. Not only has it tarnished my perception of The Westin Frenchman’s Reef, but it has also led me to reevaluate my loyalty to the Marriott brand as a whole. I expected far better treatment from an establishment of your caliber and reputation. Save yourself the trouble; this place is a total disappointment. Travelers, beware!!!

The main problem is this hotel is operating with perhaps half of the staff it would need to offer a compelling value. Food from ANY of the restaurants at ANY time of day takes 1.5 hours to come. Room service takes an hour and comes in take out containers and paper bags. Housekeeping comes at 6pm.

The views, pool, and beach are nice. There isn't enough shade or umbrellas on either.
But as nice as the location is it's a drag having to devote so much time and effort to getting the mediocre food on offer, and it's a drag having to wait to shower at 6pm so housekeeping can come clean your room.

For the price we paid, the value just isn't there, as many other reviews point out. If it was like half the price I could forgive the poor service. But as things are I think it's a ripoff.

I would say the facility itself it’s nice but rooms are full of ants , we have to beg for house keeping to clean , put supplies for 4 people to the extent that I have left sticky notes where refills are needed and tips . Good thing they take the tips but do nothing . Please tell me how a room for 4 people have only 3 towels , no shower gel , conditioner , no coffee and when u ask for extra they give u 2 . We went and complained to service manager who was so nice but clearly had no say over her staff . Staff is nothing but rude , they throw things at you and they speak English btw so that no one tells me it’s a language barrier . They don’t smile . NO CUSTOMER SERVICE ZERO !! My husband again called the service desk , we had to go look for house keeping to hand them tips in their hands and ask for refills yet it’s partially done and cleaning not done huh , at the Westin !!! Many guests were complaining about how rude the staff is . Man they don’t even smile . Sedona is the front desk manager she is sweet and smiles but honestly with full respect t no control over her staff . They originally gave us the wrong room not what we booked then they had us wait 3 hours , then called us then gave us again the wrong room till finally Sedona gave us the room we booked . Ants are everywhere in the room when we asked for cleaning coz they don’t even wipe anything down , they said it’s too hot , ants come in sorry can’t sympathize with ants neither you are the only hotel that is located on the island and it’s too hot . We also heard from some people working at there who rent the space at the hotel that management is horrible and it’s about to change next week !!! Well , I hope so because u wish I could record how many guests were complaining about the service , cleanliness and housekeeping . Smiling is a hot commodity when we find someone smiling we tell them and mostly they tell us we are renting here we don’t work for the Westin hahaha except for a couple of waitresses at Luna Mar I remember one of them clearly coz she was so kind , nice , suggesting what to do on the island and truly know customer service and how to deal with humans , her name is Brittany thank y dear ! We asked for the general manager and he is MIA , still waiting to talk to him . I can add pix of bugs Empty stuff and uncleanliness but I won’t for now in the hope they fix it or give us our money back . Terrible Terrible Terrible for such and expensive hotel . Don’t come till you confirm they changed their current management …

I was at this hotel for two weeks in June for my wedding and honeymoon. I absolutely loved this hotel and will be back. All of my family and guests were taken care of. We had Silka as our coordinator and she took care of us and checked in with us every day! She was great with the planning process and even set our group up with private transportation from the airport, to dinners and back to the airport for 20 people. Silka set up our rehearsal dinner at Luna Mar and it was divine. Silka was integral to the success of our wedding and all of our guests being taken care of. The pool area is amazing. I wish I would have spent time using the spa but was having too much fun with family. Don’t bother bringing a water bottle, they are provided with the room and there are many water fill stations around the hotel. We loved the restaurants on the property and can attest the Shorebird breakfast is our favorite breakfast. The only drawback for this hotel is if you plan on doing laundry, the laundry room isn’t easy to get to and there aren’t enough machines.

Where to begin?
1. Resort restaurant cancelled our dinner reservations without advance notice. Found out when we arrived for our reservation, about 5 minutes before reserved time with 3 hungry children.
2. Had to leave another resort restaurant after 2 1/2 hours as food never arrived
3. At a third resort restaurant, waited 25 minutes to get water and order but waitress never came back
4. One pool and 1/2 another shut down for a day due to private party. Guess the $75 per day resort fee doesn’t get you anything
5. Spa employee told my son’s family that had to leave another pool because we had children at the pool. Sign by the pool said children 12 and under had to be accompanied by an adult. We had more adults than children present and the kids were quieter than drinking adults!
6. Door to son’s room didn’t lock. He reported it but it wasn’t fixed the entire week.
7. Daughter’s reservation was for 2 queen beds. She got a king bed with a pull out couch! Pull out couches are NOT comfortable!
8. Two weeks after check out, still waiting for refund of room taxes we were billed twice, once thru advance reservation and again at check out.
9. 25% service charge applied to breakfast buffet because 4 grandparents sat at a table next to 2 parents and their 3 children!
10. Multiple emails and phone calls to try to nail down wedding flowers and desserts plus final cost. Did not happen until day before our travels.

Do you yourself a favor and go somewhere else!

Dear Barbara, Thank you for your detailed feedback. I deeply apologize for the numerous issues you faced during your stay. We strive for high standards and it’s clear we did not meet them. * Restaurant Issues: Cancelled reservations, long wait times, and poor service are unacceptable. We will address this with our staff. * Pool Closures and Policies: We should have communicated closures better, and our spa pool policy should have been enforced fairly. * Room Issues: Security concerns and incorrect room assignments are serious matters that should have been resolved immediately. * Billing and Service Charges: Double billing and erroneous service charges are being reviewed and corrected. Your refund will be expedited. * Wedding Coordination: Delays in finalizing wedding details were not up to standard and should have been handled better. We value your feedback. There is a walkway on the waterside of the property with a series of steps down to the lower levels which makes a very exhilarating walk back up. There are mini fridges in the rooms - key word is “mini”. You would need to take a taxi to a grocery store where they do also sell beer & liquor.

From my understanding, MVC guests cannot use the Westin or Buoy Haus pools, but they are welcome to eat at their restaurants and bars. There is a free shuttle from the Westin to the Buoy Haus. (As an FYI, Westin guests cannot use BH pool, but BH guests can use the Westin's pools.)
