The Ritz-Carlton garners a mix of reactions; guests applaud its prime location and the welcoming atmosphere enhanced by personalized touches. However, some travelers question the value for money, pointing to overcharges and service that can be hit or miss. While the amenities—including pools and beach activities—are often highlights, reports of maintenance and cleanliness issues in rooms are concerning. The hotel's service receives varied reviews, with some guests experiencing friendly interactions and others facing slow responses.

I don’t know where to begin this review. The RC Saint Thomas was the first place my husband and I vacationed outside of continental US together back in 2009. At that time, we loved the experience so much, we went back a second time the following year.

It took us eleven years to circle back to this sweet spot in the Caribbean. A family trip to Saint John was the little push we needed for a trip down memory lane. Now I wish we had stayed far away and left our fond memories in the past. In a decade, this place went from an outstanding property to an average experience with poor service hidden behind the thin façade of a fresh renovation. I write this with the understanding that this is a pandemic and expectations should be lowered.

Ritz Carlton service doesn’t exist at this location, aside from the phrase “My Pleasure.” The best part of the stay was the standard arrival rum punch, cold towels and view from the palazzo building. No attempt was made by this hotel team to ensure a positive stay, which nowadays means communication with guests pre-arrival to secure dinner reservations and spa appointments. Their concierge team was useless, and any request was met with “no” and “my pleasure.”

The food program belonged at the Marriott down the street, and the list of wonderful signature cocktails the hotel once had was gone, replaced by mediocre Caribbean mainstays. In addition to the bad food, I was shocked that there were televisions everywhere, even in the restaurants. This isn’t Sizzler. The cool vibe that was once here with Firelight Glass oil lamps everywhere at night while Gotan Project played throughout the resort is gone and replaced by steel drums and run of the mill family entertainment.

The one positive is that the renovation is fantastic, and the rooms and public spaces are gorgeous. However, heed my warning. The adjoining rooms have zero sound insultation and we had to relocated to a room without a connection. If you are a light sleeper or in general don’t want to hear your neighbors speaking at a normal volume, request a room on the end.

Looking back, I cannot believe the rack rate our weekend here was $1200.00. Book well in advance and you can save 50% off those prices. In addition, come prepared with lower expectations. I don’t think we’ll be returning to the USVI until Caneel Bay reopens.

Featuring a tremendous location for views of neighboring St John, a perfect beach, ideal infinity pool, and impeccable cleanliness, this property goes over the top with the highly attentive service that built this brand. While I find all Virgin Islanders to be overtly friendly, this team goes out of their way. They are handling the additional cleaning and distancing criteria very well, and the USVI travel portal and required pretesting provides a sense of protection not available in many other lush, tropical locations. This might be the best time to visit the best place you can go without a passport as a US citizen. While the USVI travel portal may seem a burden, I felt a bit safer traveling with passengers who had to all be tested in order to enter the USVI, and I know the staff who are eager to reopen this vital portion of their economy do as well. Visit and invest some if your vacation funds in the US! A special shout out to 2 team members who distinguished themselves to me. The pastry chef Abhishek Pillai, who has perfected a tropical crem Carmel in the Italian restaurant overlooking the sea, and a server there; Latoya who shows a dogged determiation to get everything just right with a smile all the way. They are just 2 of the many folks who are working to earn your trust and help you find a bit of solace in this unsettled time. Good job team! I'll be back.

We contacted Pamela with Denver Travel for some options to stay in St Thomas to celebrate a 40th birthday and this hotel was on the top of the list.

Upon check in, Victor graciously escorted us to our room. We were starving so decided to order room service for dinner. The food was perfect and delivered before the 45 minute estimate.

Each morning we decided to visit Southwind for breakfast. As long as you’re not in a hurry, it’s a great experience. The ladies got to know our order after we ordered a couple of days and seemed happy to see us each day. The iced mocha is perfect!

There were plenty of beach chairs all day. We did notice pool chairs fill up pretty quickly. Beach service started around lunch, but we decided we wanted to eat at a table for lunch each day, so chose to leave our towels on our chairs and eat at Sails every day. Great service. The Baileys Banana Colada (BBC) is worth the $16.

Looking for water sports? This is the ideal hobie cat spot. Perfect winds and the bay allows you to feel safe and seems to limit the choppy waters. Felt bad for the paddle boarders and kayakers, however, as the winds blew them to the left.

The Sunset Sail may be your fondest memory of the whole trip. You’ll see folks boarding around 5 every night and will regret not participating. The views and vibe are worth the money.

We booked our dinner reservations for the week when we arrived and couldn’t find a reservation earlier than 8pm so I suggest calling 2 weeks prior to your arrival to see if you can make reservations. We chose Coconut Cove and Alloro, both walking distance from the hotel. Expect fine dining prices and experience. We would have liked a more casual less pricey option as we prefer that when we eat out.

If you need a cab, they have them onsite. I believe it’s $5 per person to Red Hook. You can just walk up to the front desk outside and request one.

Overall, our family agreed this was the best vacation we’ve ever taken. The staff was friendly, shout out to Pamela who seemed to pop up wherever she was needed. The property was beautiful. The beach was perfect. The rooms were clean. The famous beds are so comfortable. If you read the reviews before this, ask yourself what your 5-star standards are and maybe take what they say with a “grain of salt?”

We just returned from a 5 night stay at the Ritz Carlton St Thomas, staying in an oceanfront queen bedroom. With Bon Voy Ambassador status, and previous Ritz stays, my expectations were high, but tempered by recent reviews and understanding that they are still recuperating from the hurricanes. However, we were extremely disappointed with the consistency of service offered. We take this special trip every other year, and were extremely disappointed with our stay.

From the beginning, we were not able to reach anyone at the hotel via phone or email to answer questions related to the reservation. One time that I did talk to someone, it took over an hour on the phone to attempt to change our room type. After leaving several messages and emails for a concierge, no one ever responded.
Eventually, our Marriott Ambassador was able to confirm everything for us before we arrived. While the check-in process was simple through the app, and the welcome lovely, after several calls to the front desk, we were told that we would need to pay an additional $350/night for access to the Club Lounge regardless of the lifetime status.

We made several requests at the concierge desk, the pool deck and over the phone to reserve a pool cabana, and never received any response. Half of the time when we would call for reservations or room service, no one would answer the phone at all.

While lounging at the beach, the service was spotty and inconsistent at best. There was an issue with the Sails kitchen which prompted a very limited menu for lunch and food being prepared next to the pool/beach on grills under a tent. I wasn't expecting just one restaurant on property to be available for meals.

Our room was on the 5th floor of building E, and with only one elevator on the other side of the building, I would not recommend this hotel for anyone with mobility issues. There are stairs everywhere: throughout the main building, to and from the pool and the beach, etc.

The construction of the family pool was very disruptive. It was visible from every room, and the hotel attempted to disguise with music that started early each morning on the pool deck, with the same playlist each day. The construction definitely cuts into the pool deck, and you need to reserve your pool loungers early in the morning if you want a place to sit. At the beach, you need to reserve a chair early in the morning if you want to sit in the front row. The attendants were friendly, but not helpful, even with tips.

There just didn't seem to be any focus on the customer experience at this resort. A couple of staff members were very friendly (Lisa from in-room dining was a delight each morning), but not able to hold the rest of the resort to the same standards.

We stayed at this property for 6 nights and were very disappointed. This was not a ritz experience. The night we arrived they said we can call for a golf cart anytime and it never came. We found a bell woman in a golf cart and asked if she could take us. She led us on a wild goose chase through the property, had no idea where she was going, and then dropped us off at the wrong restaurant in the dark. We were so lost we were 30 minutes late for our reservation and walked all around the resort trying to get help. Nightmare. The service is spotty. Most of the staff act like you are sort of inconveniencing them if you ask for extras (hot sauce, salt etc) like you are annoying. The food was mainly super basic & lackluster with an exorbitant price tag. Room service takes an hour and a half to receive and each time the order was never right. You have to wake up at 7:30am to get a pool spot and by 8:30 for a beach spot. Dinner reservations were hard to come by and needed to be planned well in advance. Cleaning ladies would sometimes come as early as 9am, one morning waking us up. We ordered a bottle of vueve to celebrate our engagement and told them we had dinner reservations in 2 hours. Took them an hour and a half to deliver a bottle of champagne then charged us a $38 auto tip... unbelievable. So over it! Definitely stay somewhere else if your looking for luxury and a 5 star experience.

I tried calling Cliff Brutus since he responds to all of these reviews - even while we were on property, but could never reach him. If you would really like to have a conversation then please call me. We were in 343E and checked out March 30th, last name starts with W, you should be able to find us. If I get any type of response I’ll update my review accordingly.

We had Club Level benefits for our 8 day trip, and the food in the club lounge is mediocre at best and the service is ridiculously slow. Be prepared to stand in line for 30 or more minutes to get any cocktails or food. Even just a simple rum and coke they have to go in the back and prepare for you and it takes forever. If there’s a line of 5 other people waiting forget about it! We understand some adjustments had to be made for covid, but they need a logistics expert to look at this situation. I don’t think this property was ready to open. They ran out of beach towels twice during our stay, we could never get a person to answer the phone or if we did they just left us on hold for 30 minutes (including before our departure, which should have been a red flag!) There was a dead orchid in the middle of the club lounge the day we arrived and 8 days later it was still there. A guest dropped a drink on the stairs and I had to ask that the glass be swept away after three days (the orange from the drink was still left behind. They originally put us in the wrong room at check-in and it took 4 hours to get the proper room, even though they said it was being cleaned immediately. The beach is very rocky, so bring water shoes. We’ve traveled all over the world and stayed at all levels of hotels and this was our second worst stay ever. Most definitely not worth paying Ritz prices for a Hampton Inn experience!

Of course, there were a few individuals who definitely had the Ritz training, but most seemed to have no idea that they worked in the service industry. In the club lounge Peter, Jade and T’(I’m going to get her name completely wrong) were great. Maria and Constantina also tried to be helpful. The taxi stand was quick and efficient as well. The reef right off the beach is also nice.

Let’s start by saying this place is definitely not a 5 star resort. It’s not even close to a 4 star resort. This hotel lacks in every aspect of the word “hospitality”. 2 weeks before check in I made several calls to the front desk and reservations department and explained we were traveling with two children ages 15 and 11 and would like to request our rooms next to each other or at least close. We were bounced around from person to person each day and should have known this place didn’t have it together from the start. Upon checking in our keys were taken for our rental car, our bags unloaded and then never shown the way to check in. Asked to be directed and they offered us a drink which they never brought us. Upon check in the desk clerk told us that they could not accommodate our request of being close. So we were on floor 3 and our kids were on floor 1. They said they could not accommodate until the following night which was fine. So the next night we were thankfully moved to the room next to our kids. But that didn’t happen until after 5pm, which we were given the new keys and no assistance with our bags was offered so we had to wait to leave hotel for dinner until we moved ourselves.
The rooms at the resort are small and outdated. We paid 1200$ a night per room which is RIDICULOUS for this property. Our room was cleaned literally cleaned twice in 5 days. One turn down service and then never again. We had to repeatedly ask for more towels, etc.
We were celebrating our daughters birthday and asked if they could provide something special in room or at breakfast, received nothing. I’m a titanium elite member and have stayed at many Ritz Carltons and this was by far the worst. There was a lack of personality, helpfulness, or even accountability of just about every person on property. The only helpful agent was Stephen in the club lounge. At $80 a day, per room, resort fee you don’t even so much as get complimentary coffee in the am. The club opened at 8am and of course we had coffee and breakfast included here, which sadly was mediocre offerings at best. However if you wanted coffee before 8am good luck. Asked for two cups to room early one morning before fishing charter...$23!!
Concierge never followed up with any requests. Couldn’t help us make dinner reservations. So luckily again referred back to Stephen.
And dinner one night on property at Sails was one of the worst beach dinners we’ve had and came with a $750 Bill! Mind you we provided the fish we caught that day and two bottles of wine.
At check out we explained our displeasure and not a word, apology,..nothing. The only thing this place has going for it is the couple of nice views.

Spent 5 nights at the hotel which is still under construction. This was our fourth trip to the hotel and it is a beautiful setting. The food we had on site was very good. Club lounge staff is the best and really know how to make the customer happy! Please just make the cookies smaller because sometimes you just want a small bite and we don't want to waste food. We paid for an ocean front room and hoped for American Express Platinum upgrade, but were told none were available although there was availability on the website for paid stays. The DJ at the pool was way too loud 4 of the days. We thought we could go to the other side of the beach away from the pool, but the speaker was just as loud. I don't know if the resort is trying to cater to a younger demographic by having the DJ instead of current family friendly atmosphere. Perhaps that speaker can be disconnected for those who want to read and relax without all the noise? Just a few other observations still being worked out: no slippers in the room although we did request them on line and SPF containers at pool and beach were empty on 2 days. I am sure these are just a few kinks training staff and the hotel will be 5 star on our next trip.

Work is continuing and largely completed. Some problems exist however. Elevators were not working in main building. Management of pool area is still not where it should be. Adults only at Infinity Pool is not enforced. Beach chair set up should be better managed. Too many people get set up and then leave chairs vacant for hours. Take a tip from Ritz in Grand Cayman. They put a flag on chairs and if they are not occupied for 2 hours, they remove set up and open the chairs for use by new people.
Restaurants, Alloro and Bluewater are just ok with limited menus. Our Delmonico for two was gristly and came rare as opposed to medium as ordered.
Doorbells sound through the alarm system with no prior warning about this. All restaurant bills do not show whether gratuities are included or not. Consider including gratuities in resort fees though they are already high at $80 per day. Again Grand Cayman includes gratuities for everything in resort fee and the fee is only $60 per day. Ritz in Grand Cayman does not have the extensive water sport amenities, however. Lighting in bathrooms with translucent wall is not a plus.
The only hotel book with explanatory info is the room service menu. Something is needed.Bell service was excellent and prompt. Servicing of room was spotty and often late. There is no Jacuzzi at main hotel site, only at Residences though one is shown on the map. There is no "commissary" on site.

When I booked my stay at the Ritz Carlton in St. Thomas I was very specific with the person on the phone that I needed a room with a roll-in shower and that wheelchair accessible for my son who was in a wheelchair. I was assured that the room was equipped appropriately and that I would have the room next to him. When we arrived the shower was not roll-in and it didn’t even have a chair, bench, etc for him to transfer to. There were no grab bars around the toilet. I was put in a room one floor up, no elevator, and I am a 72-year old who uses a walker. First the hotel delivered a bench for my son’s shower which was so small to be dangerous for him to try to use. Then a manager said he would go buy the appropriate devices (nothing on the premises !!!!). So two items bought and delivered to the wrong room. By the time the items arrived it was Thursday, we had been there since Saturday and we were leaving on Saturday. We were told there was a golf cart with a ramp for him to be taken down to the beach. First morning we called and stood for 40 minutes and it never showed so we figured out how to walk. During the entire week not one pool attendant offered to help my son in or out of the pool, although several guests did. The food at supposedly highly rated restaurants was poor, expensive and very limited choices for families with children. I was eventually offered by the head of guest relations to comp my food for the week and an additional $500. So my bill came and I was comped less than what I had spent for food and there was no additional monies. I have written all this in letters to the corporate headquarters and have no response. I’ve stayed at Hilton locations with better room, food and one tenth of the price. Never again will I go to a Ritz Carlton. Absolutely disgusted. This was nit some third world country, this was a US Territory, should have been at the very least ADA compliant. Never again.

Definitely not all inclusive. The beach loungers, towels, and snorkeling equipment is free, but everything else costs money. You can charge everything to your room though.
