Rented a beachfront, ground floor room and views are gorgeous. Bed was comfortable, linens were soft and clean. Shower was really cool, with real rock walls. No complaints about the room or view.
No chickens running around, which was nice because you can walk barefoot around the property. Our best night was our last one, because we met the new property manager, Opa.

Our biggest complaint was the service. There are very young people working the bar. Unprofessional, giggly, paying more attention to their friends. etc. Little to no knowledge on how to make a drink. Spent 18$ for two drinks with no alcohol? Maybe he forgot? Everyone seemed mad, frustrated and generally overworked. The service here is S.L.O.W. plan on 2.5 hours for a meal service. We didn't understand the attire. The waitresses were wearing jogging pants and crocs, serving your 50$ dinner plate.
The food is absolutely outstanding. As long as you go M-F. Weekends here are out of whack and dysfunctional.

Met the new property manager when we left, Upbeat, charming and really trying to change things. Saw him training the staff on basic communication skills when we left. He had music playing by the pool, hung lights and was trying to change the problems with the place. I would recommend without kids.

Don't drink the coffee, I wouldn't exactly call it coffee in the first place. More like flavored bean water in your room and instant soupy black sewer water from the kitchen. Bring your own from home and save the heartache. Order wine or beer as it requires no skill. At least until Opa overhauls the staff and gets them training or replaces them. Hope he keeps the chef!

We really enjoyed our Stay at the Palms. We didn’t have any issues nor did we see any roaches or bugs in our 12 rooms! The rooms are huge and the suite is the size of a condo. The rooms were cleaned daily and sanitized. I will really say that some folks have given this place a bad review unjustly! Sure, they are understaffed but everyplace is due to the pandemic. The owners were visible, accessible to the guest and the nicest people ever! The views are SPECTACULAR!! The pool was clean and there were adequate flotation devices and lounge chair...the ambiance is just wonderful. The food was good, however I think it depends on the cook who is on shift. The drinks were good and did I mention that the view is Spectacular?? The islands was hit back to back with hurricanes, so recovery takes some time, they are doing a great job making this prime property live up to its potential. It’s a Boutique Hotel that’s adult only perfect for honeymoons, a quiet getaway or a birthday celebration as we did. The front desk staff was pleasant, helpful and quite accommodating contrary to what was written in other review. I am a Travel Agent and I glad I booked this location for myself and my group. I will be recommending it to my clients. I will return and I will stay at this location in the same room!! Don’t sleep on this place!

PS..All beaches in St. Croix are public. It is not the responsibility of the hotel to clean the beach and they can’t deny access to anyone even kids.
As far as the grounds are concerned, they are well kept but trimming the dead Palms off the trees would be my suggestion.

Knowing that this property is on a pretty casual island and understanding the logistical limitations of resorts in the hurricane belt, I researched in several locations for past guest reviews. The Palms was exactly as I expected: solid accommodation and amenities but certainly not luxury. Previous comments on service speed at the restaurant may have been provided by guests not familiar with Island Time. Grace must be given for that.

Pros: Great pool, on-site restaurant/bar, genuinely friendly and accommodating staff, large, clean rooms, modern bathroom/shower, patio overlooking the beach and ocean—just steps away from the waves, good location for island exploring. One of the most comfortable hotel beds EVER. Dependable and effective a/c (also unusual on an island). Positive staff attitude cannot be emphasized enough. Nearly everyone we encountered was genuinely concerned with providing great service with a smile. Post-pandemic, hospitality staffing is challenging, but somehow The Palms has hired the best. A+ to Zarah, Mike, Juicy, Wendy and Yvette! On Sundays everyone should be going to the restaurant for a great breakfast and the bottomless mimosas. Outstanding restaurant view, too.

Cons: This is the windy side of the island. We found we preferred the Frederiksted side for beaches and snorkeling.

Side note: we had an issue with an amenity while visiting. Property management was unresponsive during our stay and upon return home. On-site staff did their best. Ultimately, Expedia stepped in and made this right. The End.

The overriding problem is the location which is west of Christiansted and a very scary dark drive into town on roads far worse than east of town. Pelican Cove itself is a shabby area (derelict buildings next door that never recovered from hurricanes) with some scary folks hanging around. The rooms next to us were rented out to what I think were a crew of workmen who would party most of the night and came in at 4 AM slamming doors and yelling to each other; then hang out outside the doors at 4 PM. Not a comfortable situation.

Pro’s: pool in pristine condition
Bed comfortable (but bring own pillows)
A/C and fan very good
On-site restaurant good for standard fare

Con’s: no service around the pool/waterfront
No help with baggage on arrival (relieved we were on the first floor, but lifting bags three feet up into luggage cart ourselves? Really?)
Skimpy towel supply unless you ask for more every day

Seriously considered leaving 2 days into our week long reservation and I’ve never felt that way anywhere else in the world.
Started driving half an hour to the Buccaneer to use their well appointed beach and lunch place.

But it just came up short too many times particularly in customer service. I knew something wasn't right when they did not offer to take our bags to our room while we grabbed a bite to eat after arriving in mid afternoon. And our room was literally the furthest one from the office which is a nice little hike, Later that same day the hostess had a complete meltdown when I asked if she knew what the dinner specials were. Totally unacceptable behavior.
The room was good size and the partial ocean view was fine. Definitely some signs of "wear & tear". It needed a larger table or maybe just a second smaller one. The sheets and towels were a bit thin but acceptable. The bed was soft and sloped to the middle. One day housekeeping took our towels and did not return to finish our room.
They don't put loungers on the beach as the other resorts do and even asked you not to take loungers to the beach. The pool is nice but we do not go to the islands to sit by a pool. And no food or beverage service by the pool.
Nareda at the front desk was very nice as were Jenna, Yvette & Claire in the restaurant but several other employees were not so pleasant. The food in the restaurant is ok not great and the service at times was very slow.
We liked the location at the the back of nice little residential area and quite close to Christiansted where the nice shops & restaurants are.
Overall, we were disappointed even though we were only there for 5 nights. If we return to St Croix, we will definitely choose some place else to stay.

After reading so many reviews, we chose to change our stay from the Carambola resort to The Palms. When we checked in, we were given a room that was “by accident,” as we noticed the room wasn’t cleaned or the bed made. We were also greeted by a pile of dirt and roaches by the front door. Disgusted, we called the front desk which by the way, was hard to get through to. When following the prompts to the front desk, the automated system hung up on me and I just started clicking random numbers and miraculously got through (there is no phone in the room). The front desk staff came right away and moved us to another room and gave us extra free drink tickets which was nice. The new room was cleaned and definitely ready for new guests and we liked how housekeeping came everyday. Only complaint is on our third night, I woke up to use the bathroom and there was a roach in the shower…The bar and restaurant were pretty good as well, we just wish the hotel alerted guests better when there was a private event. The night before my birthday, we decided to try to eat dinner at the restaurant only to be rudely asked for vaccination cards and then told right after that it was closed for a private event. Good thing we rented a car so we weren’t left feeling hungry or deserted. I would definitely recommend renting a car if you plan on staying for more than a few nights!!

We’ve been all over the island this week and must say this place has the best views. The beach is so close to the bar/restaurant and the pool. We stayed at the condos and they were great. BUT please note that everything is really short handed so to get into restaurants takes time and patience. Even at the Palms restaurant we had to leave after about 30 minutes of no service. So just stock up on food and what you need and then consider it “gravy” if you get into restaurants and get served. We finally ordered take out from the Chicken Shack last night (about 10 minutes from here) and it was amazing. Take out from Paradise Pizza was awesome too. Missing a lot of great seafood. When we were here last you could get grouper, red fish, snapper and flounder. Now it’s a lot of pizza, hamburgers, etc. just know before you come. Also the beach in front of the condos and hotel is unswimmable due to rocks but in front of the restaurant (which is just a 5 minute walk) is great. Some great snorkeling too. There is a great place where you can order some snorkeling gear (that’s basically new) and they’ll deliver it to you. Some highlights were Buck Island and the bioluminescent kayak tour. Fredericksted was pretty dead and a lot of the island reminded us of Haiti. Bucanner beach was pretty nice but crowded and food was really expensive. Cramer Beach is kind of hidden but worth it. Got some great food at Rythms on Rainbow beach but again crowded.

The Palms is an older resort. I know it was recently purchased so previous reviews probably relate to the previous owners. The room was in need of an update and the bathroom door was broken. But the location of the room and the views were incredible. As my intention was to only sleep in the room I was fine with that. The staff was mostly friendly. Some more than others. A HUGE shout out to Ramon who was friendly, helpful and always available if needed. He made up for the other staff people who were distant and indifferent to the guests. We loved the food during the day (breakfast and lunch were amazing) Dinner, not so much. I am guessing there were 2 different cooks for the different shifts. We opted to eat an early dinner pretty much every night so we could get the lunch menu and the 1st shift cook. The location of the hotel is on the windward side of the island, so we had pretty strong wind in the mornings. But it was a very quiet area and the sounds of the waves were all we heard at night. Apparently hotels in Fredricksted are also right on the beach but there is a lot of foot traffic so its not nearly as quiet as Christensted, which is where the The Palms are located.. They had entertainment every evening. Which was great because we didnt want to have to travel at night. The area is safe, but driving on the left is already difficult enough without having to drive at night. I HIGHLY recommend this hotel. Its not as luxurious as other "resorts" I have been too, but homey.

We went for the Wednesday dinner and show at Pelican Palms, and the show was great! The moko jumbies were talented, with beautiful costumes and an announcer who conveyed the cultural and historical significance of the tradition. The fire dancers were also energetic and fun to watch. But I’d recommend going for the free entertainment and skipping the meal. This restaurant needs a good manager. First, we made reservations weeks in advance but were given a table in the bar with no views. When we asked if we could switch, the hostess was not happy, despite the restaurant being nearly empty when we arrived. The music in the bar was blaring, which became a bigger problem once the sound system was set up for the show and they played competing loud music. This jarring sound duel went on for 15 minutes before a new bartender came in and shut the indoor music off. And the food? Don’t get the award-winning steak. It wasn’t cooked medium rare as ordered (medium and dry), and about 3 of the 14 ounces were untrimmed fat. Our sides were cold. The server had to be asked for steak knives, salt and pepper, and salad dressing. For the prices, it wasn’t an enjoyable meal, although the fried snapper with creole sauce was good. In summary, no one on staff was especially welcoming or competent, and we’ve been having excellent experiences everywhere else and giving 5-star reviews. If I had it to do over again, I think I’d head over to Hotel on the Cay on one of their Tuesday afternoon show days, get some drinks and bar food before the buffet, and just hang out till dark to watch their free show.

We spent several nights at this property and had an amazing experience. You are directly on the ocean. The restaurant had nice food and great entertainment in the evenings. There were fire dancers, Magicians, and an event planned every night. Our room had a nice King bed and was updated. The property is well maintained and really beautiful. I'm rating them as a 4 due to the fresh water situation. Apparently it is not recommended to drink the water. We were not told about this and when we asked the front desk on day two the lady made it sound like drinking the water was really a bad idea. Sure wish they had told this from the beginning.
