The Buccaneer Beach & Golf Resort has garnered praise for its pristine beaches, diverse dining options, and extensive amenities, despite being somewhat sprawling. Most guests laud the resort's cleanliness and the inviting ambiance, often accentuated by live piano music. The rooms are generally appreciated for their comfort and views, although there have been grievances regarding misleading room descriptions and perceived high costs. While the staff typically receives accolades for their friendliness and helpfulness, instances of slow or inattentive service have marred the experience for some. Travelers caution about the resort's expense, citing hidden fees and overpriced amenities.

The Buccaneer doesn’t disappoint. The 3 beaches are beautiful. All meals are delicious. And most importantly, the staff at the resort (and in St. Croix in general) are some of the friendliest and kindest people you will ever meet. We stayed in the highest Family Cottage on the hill, which had stunning views of the Caribbean Sea and was a convenient walk to all restaurants and beaches. The Family Cottages were a great fit for my family because my two elementary school-aged kids got their own room, while my wife and I had a large room with a king bed and a window seat. The cottage also had a 4-person patio dining set and 2 lounge chairs on the front porch/patio.

My kids especially loved the Monday night fire dancer show and the Tuesday night mocko jumbies show at The Mermaid. The Buccaneer truly understands hospitality and manages to be elegant without being pretentious.

This was our second stay at The Buccaneer, and we plan to return again soon.

We visited the Buccaneer for 5 days in April 2021. We had a relaxing stay in beautiful accommodations. With only one exception, the Staff ( front desk, restaurant, watersports, cleaning staff, concierge) were helpful, friendly, and extremely accommodating. We enjoyed all three beaches. Beaches are quiet and there is plenty of shade.. Hours were limited for the beach bar at Grotto Beach and dinner was only served until 7:30. Hope when we return it will be possible to get a late night snack and enjoy an afternoon drink at Grotto Beach.
We only left the resort one afternoon for a sail to Buck Island. Buck Island is a must for snorkelers!
It was very easy to arrange for a taxi and we were picked up right outside our room.
If you are staying by the beach. Breakfast does require a little climb.
The view from the top is breath taking and by the third day we rather looked forward to the morning hike up the hill.
Everything we ate at the Mermaid was delicious! The breakfast buffet was good, but I would not say exceptional.
Beach chairs and beach toys are plentiful. We snorkeled several times during our stay. There's stuff to see, but not the variety and colors that I remember when Snorkeling on St John.
We were already planning our return the day we checked out. The natural beauty, the comfortable well maintained facilitates. and the accommodating staff made for a memorable stay.

We've traveled all over the Caribbean, but this was our first trip to St. Croix. We stayed for 4 days and three nights at The Buccaneer and absolutely loved it.

We were greeted with delicious rum punch. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the manager, Ashton, was kind enough to give us an amazing room upgrade to a Luxury Beachside Doubloon (Room 357). The views are breathtaking! The room itself is quite spacious and has a jetted tub and separate shower and a huge walk-in closet. It also has skylights in the bathroom, which is a nice touch.

The Breakfast Buffet is complimentary for guests. There are different specialty items every day, along with the regular staples of eggs, bacon, pancakes, French toast, etc.

Eating out can get expensive, so you may want to stop at a grocery store and grab some snacks or drinks for your room or vacation rental.

You definitely need to rent a car because taxis will add up, and there's no Uber or Lyft. Plus, it'll give you time to explore the island at your own pace. If you do rent a car, they drive on the left side of the road even though it's a U.S. territory. We didn't have any issues, and you get used to it pretty quickly. The navigation app Waze works here.

We will definitely come back!

My wife and I booked the Luxury Beachfront room with the Honeymoon package. We chose the Buccaneer because it was the number #1 rated on the island. While there is a lot to like, overall we were disappointed.

We almost always stay at tier 1 resorts when we travel and don’t mind paying for that level of service. The Buccaneer is tier 1 pricing with tier 3 attention to detail.

The property is well maintained but tired. It is almost as if a top resort from 1980 was frozen in time. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it isn’t competitive at the price point. The hotel has many extremely loyal clients who come every year without fail (or checking prices), which allows for the current business model.

The staff is largely excellent, but inconsistent. It is either 100% or at times (not often) curt answers with minimum effort.

The food and drinks are good though we don’t have much data here. The prices are double anything in Christiansted and a mandatory 18% on everything drove us to town every evening. That was a blessing as there are many amazing little restaurants in town (Zion, 40 Strand, Galangal, Balter, Too Chez).

Room service- Not used.. High prices + 23% charge +$7 delivery fee = not value

The ownership needs to look hard at the business model. The generation that made the pricing with the current product is disappearing (I’m not making light of it, but it is fact). The Buccaneer either needs to up it’s game or accept that it is a mid-tier resort and price accordingly.

First, be prepared for a $49/day Energy Fee plus $55/day in taxes. This added over $700 to our stay. Taxes we understand, but we certainly weren't using $49/day in energy.

Our view was beautiful and the staff they had was very friendly, but they need more staff. It was not uncommon to wait an hour or more for food or drinks. At times, we were literally unable to see a single employee while on the beach near the Mermaid Restaurant. We were told by our cab driver that he consistently hears this complaint about the Buccaneer. They were given Covid relief money to keep staff but let the staff go anyway. Once you're on-site, you have no way to get food or drinks (unless you pay for a cab) other than to wait however long it takes...

We went with two other couples. One couple had no hot water and their sink backed up. They literally had to shower in ice-cold water. The other couple's television went in and out. These issues were fixed when brought to the management's attention, but it shouldn't have happened at all at the rates we paid.

Our room was on the side of the Great House. The view was amazing but there is a giant generator or some sort of machinery off to the side. We couldn't sit on the deck and enjoy the view because of the noise of the machines. We had to keep the door shut to the deck to avoid it. If you go, make sure to ask for a room on the front of the Great House. Our friends paid the same rate but had rooms on the front with no noise from the machines.

It's a beautiful setting and the staff is friendly and helpful, but the owners need to invest in the property to make it worth the cost.

We rented the beach house for 12 family members. It had gorgeous 360 views. Sunrise, sunsets, & rainbows were spectacular. We had full kitchen, laundry, water, pool, & every thing else you could need. Fitzgerald took great care of us. He shuttled us to and from the resort often even though we had a minivan with the rental. Loves the setup of the rooms. Those who wanted to stay up and talk could and those who wanted to go to bed early had no problem. Lots of privacy. Great breakfast every am. That would be my only recommendation is the breakfast line. Please give the guests their own plate to hold and the employees can serve the food onto their plate. It would go so much faster. You need to order your omelets from the server so do that before you go to the buffet. Also, if you know you want cereal order your milk and bowl from your server at the time you order your coffee or beverages. Togo boxes are available for guest who couldn’t make it down to breakfast. The mermaid was very good as well. Must order their desserts. Rum cake ♥️. Wouldn’t recommend room service. We may have just caught them on a bad night but took a long time and got orders wrong. Beautiful beach with palm trees, chairs, umbrellas and food/drink service.

This is the company’s official layover hotel in St. Croix. The hotel is about 20 minutes drive from the airport and is located atop a hill with a magnificent view of the harbour and the beach. The hotel is considered a historical one and in its hay day I am sure it was a sight to behold; but it has deteriorated and it appears upkeep is not their priority much less cleaning.

You must walk up 2 sets of stairs to get to your room in the main building. First thing I noticed is that the stairs had not been cleaned it what seemed like a long time. The stairs had debris and stains on them. The carpet in the hallway leading to the rooms had not been vacuumed. The floor in my bathroom had what appeared to be coffee with milk splats on the floor. A simple scrubbing with water and stain remover would have taken care of this. It was painfully obvious that cleaning is not the priority of this hotel.
I was afraid to touch things as I was worried about the towels (which are old and have turned colours from overuse). The sheets were relatively clean but the bed is lumpy.

The restaurant offers a magnificent view of the harbour, the wait staff is pleasant. I ordered a burger and it was quite good although pricey. It’s $20.00 before tax and service...

If you have time walk down to the beach and enjoy a swim and the sunset it’s worth it...This is definitely the hotel’s asset, if not for the beach and the view this is just another run-down old hotel with a fancy name and high prices. Sorry!

Stayed for 7 nights in one of the Ocean Front rooms, and had a fine visit. At the outset, I booked my reservation online, and spoke to reservations agent Jeson who was most helpful on the phone, helping me to select the room that might be best suited to our needs. The golf course, which we played three times, is in very good condition, the wind adds to the challenge, and golf professional Kenny, assisted well by Bob, does a great job making visitors feel welcome, and doing his best to get them around the course as speedily as the day's mixture of players may allow. In our case we were done in about 3 hrs / 15 minutes. My wife picked up a finger sliver on the 9th, so we had to take a break, use Kenny's hydrogen peroxide, drive back to our room and return to the course...a taking no more than about 20 minutes. The breakfast buffet is included, and it is excellent, with some variation each day. The beach chairs have been upgraded from previous years, and are comfortable, and the drinks down by the water are good. One item that visitors might want to note is that there is a significant "energy surcharge" added to the bill. In our case the room was $771 per night, and that charge was accompanied by an additional $95, nightly. Plus there is the hotel tax.

First and foremost - people who work there are fantastic, they go head over heels to get you what you are asking for. Now - the rest of the story. The hotel has a strange layout, two beaches (one of them with only one narrow spot where you can enter the water), practically one small pool (the second poll is tiny and tacked behind some service buildings, I only learned about it on our third day). The walk from the beach to the main building up the hill is strenuous enough for the hotel to provide minivans to shuttle guests up and down. The rooms are long overdue for renovations, both cosmetic and technological. Internet worked great and was fast, though. The restaurant is rather average. The tennis courts belong to hotel, but run by outside operation, so they are used by people outside of the resort. We had no problem booking the court to play, but the pro for the lessons was not available. Most annoying were the hotel's pricing policies. For one, we got some "energy charge" included in the bill (which brought taxes and other surcharges to well over 25% of the room, which was expensive to start). The "included free" breakfast was valued at the price more suitable for a nice dinner (which was truly a shame, as the breakfast was rather mediocre). Why would I even know the value of the "included" "free" breakfast? Because at the end of the breakfast we were given a bill, and the waiter would state that the bill is covered, but we needed to add gratuity. I have never paid gratuity for the "included" "free" breakfast in all my travels! The tennis court fees also defy all conventions and logic: instead of fee to rent a court for certain time, as it is customary everywhere else, you are charged per person, which makes your doubles match twice as expensive as singles. Overall, we felt that the room prices, especially with all the added fees and forced gratuities are not justified by the amenities and quality of accommodations, and, unfortunately, all the efforts by the personnel only marginally improve the overall value. Given the fact that this hotel is rated better than any others on the island, I plan to rent a condo or a villa next time I am on the St, Croix

Frankly, the hotel administration staff is some of the most incompetent I've seen in my life, and I've been hiking in Nepal where they didn't necessarily always have running water or electricity. This hotel is easily worse than that, the people at the front desk don't really know how to do their job, horrible coordination with taxis and frankly a lot of frustration arising from their sheer lack of communication. St Croix is beautiful, with some of the best beaches I've seen but this hotel really ruins that experience. Also there are not many vegetarian options for food so beware. If you want to come to the Virgin Islands, go to St Thomas, hotels are better and will give you much more peace of mind than being constantly on edge because of the incompetence of The Buccaneer. The only reason I'm giving them two stars instead of one is because of the sweet staff who clean the rooms and who work at the restauraunt. The administrative staff definitely have an attitude problem and don't give you the sense that you're welcome to stay at this hotel, which in this time is really something they cannot afford to have considering how so many hotels are going out of business and suffering massively because of COVID. Save your money and go somewhere else because this hotel is not it.

Good morning John, We are delighted with your interest in becoming part of our Buccaneer family. The Doubloons would be the quietest and most secluded options available on property on the beach. The great house hotel suites may offer a better vantage, and comfortable reading spaces and is in the main hotel. Like the Doubloons, your balcony is also very well appointed. We ask beach visitors to use personal headsets as well so if you are outside on your Doubloons patio, this should not impact your stay. We look forward to helping you plan. Warmly, Nadia

We look forward to welcoming your family to The Buccaneer in November. At this time, we are not offering a kids’ camp program but we have various activities throughout the week that your family can participate in. Options range from snorkel & kayak tours to BINGO, ping pong and sandcastle building. The resort offers themed dinners certain evenings with local performances by Moko Jumbie stilt dancers and fire dancers. There are also crab races available at several locations around the island that are a popular event for families to join.
