The beach was so nice to spend the day. As well as dining for lunch and dinner at the Mermaid restaurant. I did feel the room rate of $600 was entirely too high for this hotel. Half that price would have been better suited. Overall we had a lovely Christmas Day! We only stayed there one night considering the high price and moved to a more reasonably priced location.

Frankly, the hotel administration staff is some of the most incompetent I've seen in my life, and I've been hiking in Nepal where they didn't necessarily always have running water or electricity. This hotel is easily worse than that, the people at the front desk don't really know how to do their job, horrible coordination with taxis and frankly a lot of frustration arising from their sheer lack of communication. St Croix is beautiful, with some of the best beaches I've seen but this hotel really ruins that experience. Also there are not many vegetarian options for food so beware. If you want to come to the Virgin Islands, go to St Thomas, hotels are better and will give you much more peace of mind than being constantly on edge because of the incompetence of The Buccaneer. The only reason I'm giving them two stars instead of one is because of the sweet staff who clean the rooms and who work at the restauraunt. The administrative staff definitely have an attitude problem and don't give you the sense that you're welcome to stay at this hotel, which in this time is really something they cannot afford to have considering how so many hotels are going out of business and suffering massively because of COVID. Save your money and go somewhere else because this hotel is not it.

When we booked this house, we didn't realize it was actually part of the hotel property! What a BONUS! Not only did we get a fabulous house, we got all the amenities of staying at the resort (free breakfast, daily maid service in bedrooms, re-stocked soap/shampoo, etc., use of water sports equipment, use of the Buc's lounge chairs on Mermaid Beach, concierge, and all the good stuff!). We enjoyed the house with it's amazing views of Buck Island (especially from the master suite's shower). Here's a quick breakdown: *Rooms - each bedroom is separate from the others (with one potentially adjoining room). They all are poolside except for the Buck Island Suite (master). The living area is spacious and the dining table was large enough for our group to gather & play games at night. There is an option for an additional room across the driveway, but on site (for an additional, but reasonable fee) if you need a little more space or if your party grows bigger! There is also a pool bathroom, which was very nice & super convenient. *The kitchen: Well-stocked with lots of plastic cups (and glass, but who wants to risk it!!??), blender, coffee maker, and everything we wanted. The food on St. Croix was phenomenal, so we admittedly didn't cook. :) There are 2 refrigerators AND a water dispenser that they restocked for us frequently. There's a utility closet that has normal "house" things, which was so nice. They even had an extension cord, which helped us out. *YOUR OWN BEACH (well, I mean, it's not actually private, but we really only saw one other person there the whole week...) Whistle Beach is right down the back yard from the house and right next to the golf course. We also frequented the resort's main beach (Mermaid) so we could get snacks/drinks, beach side. *Lots of water toys, a ping-pong table, and our own snorkel gear for the week. *YOUR OWN POOL. So nice to dip in at the end of a beach day! *Daily breakfast was included with our stay, and we took advantage of that. By the end of our stay, our usual breakfast server (HELLO MISS PAT!!) knew what we liked to drink, eat, etc. and she did a phenomenal job keeping up w/ the 8-12 of us! Food at the Mermaid was very good. Service was hit & miss, depending on the time of day (just slow, but we've learned to just relax when on "island time" - plus the view wasn't too shabby while we waited. :) We would come back to St. Croix for this house, alone, but the warm people & wonderful food on the island make this a no-brianer!!

We eloped in the USVI Oct 2020 and we so excited to visit St. Croix. From everything that we read, this was the place to be. We arrived and it just seemed that our presence was a hassle to everyone and everything was extra extra slow. The woman behind the desk even made a comment like "well you should have said it was your honeymoon." I'm not sure what that meant, but it just came off wrong. It was the tone in her voice that rubbed me the wrong way, like we made a mistake. We didn't have a welcome drink, just a cup of water. We payed close to $400 a night here and couldn't wait to leave. The room was okay, pretty outdated, with ratty chairs outside that you wouldn't want to sit in. There was 1 restaurant open, and the only reason for the 2 stars is because of the food, it was pretty good. but the service was awful. We waited 20-30 minutes for someone to even take our order. At one point the guy next to us who was sitting by himself joked and asked for some coffee, since he sat there for so long. We paid for breakfast in advance, so why were we charged a fee everyday? Still have no idea. For those who reviewed that the beach was pristine, must have never been to a beach. It was dirty, not raked or cleaned up at all. For the $$ that you spend, it SHOULD look pristine but that is seriously lacking. The weeds are overgrown and for some reason there were sandbags everywhere. Again, not something you would see for a hotel that is supposed to be the nicest one on the island. We found a little lizard above the door next to us, it was dead and stuck there for days, gross. I left something behind by accident and called to see if they would please send it to me, which they did, but charged me close to $50 when it was a small item. This place nickel and dimes you for everything, it was insane. I would never recommend this place to anyone and I will never be back.

My husband and I stayed here in December on what was supposed to be a continuing education meeting and although the meeting was cancelled we decided to still go. The staff here are Top Notch! So friendly, helpful and very mindful of your safety. Although they are only using one restaurant we felt the service and food was excellent! Always friendly, mindful of your space and accommodating any request. We stayed in a beautiful luxury beachside dubloon and it was amazing! The balcony overlooked the bay and housekeeping kept it spotless for us! My only disappointment was the additional resort fee and taxes that added a significant amount to our daily room fee and was not broken out in our original reservation information. We enjoyed our stay here and would love to return and recommended it to anyone.
