Used to love relaxing by the lap pool sadly seems like more and more people bring their own music and play it loud and have no respect for others. One large group even blasted music from their balcony starting in the afternoon and nothing is done
We're currently here on Day 4 of Day 14 and unfortunately this is turning out to be far from a 5-star hotel experience. The good: We have a 2 bedroom villa which is beautiful and extremely spacious with everything you could possible need in terms of appliances and comfort. The property and the beach are very picturesque and the water in Grace Bay is very calm and clear. The front desk staff was very friendly and efficient during the check-in process and our room was ready a couple of hours before official check-in time. The bad: The staff (aside from the front desk and the maids) is very indifferent and unenthusiastic. The waiters couldn't care less about your presence and are guaranteed to mix up some part of your order. I could barely get the staff at the beach to get me a towel let alone set up sunbeds and an umbrella for us at the beach. I also observed a guest trying to get a towel at the beach at 4.30pm only to be told that they're out of towels for the day. Out of towels? What do you mean? I consider that to be completely unacceptable at this price point and for a "5-star hotel". Also, just an FYI, there's no service at the beach. At least we haven't seen a waiter out here this entire time and we are spending our whole day at the beach. We don't have much interest in the pool. The Wifi is terrible. You can get it in your room next to your router (forget getting it in any of the other bedrooms). No signal on the beach either unless you luck out with 1 bar for a couple of minutes before it drops. The absolutely shocking: Okay, you're going to think I am being overly dramatic or harsh based on all the amazing reviews on here but you have to consider the amount of money you are paying to stay at this hotel and that it's supposed to be a 5-star hotel. The"included" breakfast is literally the worst breakfast I have ever been offered at any resort/hotel. It is something you would expect at a Holiday Inn next to a highway. You get a choice of 2 eggs any style + bacon/sausage + white/wheat toast or pancakes or french toast. Coffee/tea or apple, orange, pineapple juice. That's it. You can't even get a banana. Everything else on the menu you have to pay for. I've tried all 3 items at this point and I can also report that the pancakes and french toast are the most basic thing I have ever seen. This isn't some fancy french toast/pancake. It's dry with no taste and you have to drown it in maple syrup to get it down. But you do get 1 miniature strawberry cut in half with the pancake/french toast and a teaspoon of whipped cream. Now imagine eating that for 14 days. Sure, you can order the other stuff off the menu but it's the principal and I am trying to compare apples with apples here to help out other travelers so they can curb their expectations and make the right booking decisions. Even the menu they give you at breakfast is a wrinkled paper that's been used up to death. It's just not something you expect at this price point. I've been to the Maldives, Tahiti, Bora Bora, Fiji, Aruba, St. Barth's, St. Lucia, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, the Bahamas, Barbados, the Dominican Republic, Bali, Mauritius and I have never encountered a breakfast this offensive. Anyway, if you're a seasoned traveler like my family please do your research because there might be better options. If this is your first trip to what's supposed to be a luxurious hotel you might not care about any of this because you simply might not know better. Just know that you could have a much better stay somewhere else in this price range. …
Where to start? This resort never disappoints!!! We have stayed at the Somerset many times and every time feels just as special as the first. The team - or “dream team” as we like to call them make your stay so memorable with their hospitality and amazing personalities!! Winston always greets you with a smile and is always eager to help with anything that would make your day pleasant - he has a cheery disposition that’s contagious. Loxley on the beach sets you up with all you need securing the best spot for you to feel relaxed and comfortable. He is booming with an amazingly positive outlook on life and radiates positive vibes every day!!! His calm and happy demeanor makes you appreciate every day as a blessing to enjoy. He goes out of his way to get you anything you need while you’re enjoying “paradise” on Grace Bay. Nadine is everywhere spreading cheer and good island vibes throughout your stay. Billy is a plethora of information- he was an amazing help with restaurant reservations and was very resourceful. Jenny, Ingrid and Margarita at the restaurant were a true delight to interact with every morning. They made you feel welcome and took great care of us every morning at breakfast making sure every detail was perfect! They offered great service with a smile to start our day right. We can’t wait to return soon!!! A very BIG thanks to the whole team for making our special anniversary getaway the absolute BEST!!! Hugs from Huntington, NY. Alex & Eddie…
We recently got married at The Somerset and I could not have asked for a better experience. We originally had plans to get married at another resort, but they suddenly closed. The Somerset was able to accomodate our date and group. I truly believe things happen for a reason and we could not have been more pleased with the Somerset. From initial planning through the wedding everything went so smoothly. The resort is beautiful and the rooms are spacious. It is very clean and well manicured. Housekeeping does a fabulous job as does the groundskeepers. We had 12 people arrive in our group and they were waiting for us and check in was so smooth. The car they set up for transfer was great also. As far as the rest of the time with the wedding, and bbq beach dinner- everything was just fabulous. We had a beautiful room to get ready in with a great set up of cheese/fruit/meats and champagne/beers for the girls/guys. Tanya was just spectacular. She and her colleagues put together my welcome bags without issue. She really went above and beyond to make sure our weekend was perfect. I cant remember everyones names, but Foster, JanCarlos were always there to help. We love Nadine at the pool bar, she is always smiling and ready to make you laugh. From reception, to the pool workers, beach workers, and everyone at Barbetta (see my review there), we are just so pleased with the way our wedding turned out. Everyone that works at the Somerset is just pleasant and always happy to help or just offer a smile. We cant wait to come back next year to celebrate our anniversary!!!!!…
Just got back from a great vacation at the Somerset. The staff was super friendly and extremely accommodating. A special shout out to Ms. Sharon (kid’s club) who made our trip that much more relaxing and enjoyable. Our kids couldn’t wait to see her in the mornings and would run to her from breakfast! My only complaint would be that the Somerset could use another restaurant or two (more variety). I would definitely revisit.
We are two adults with two young kids. Overall we enjoyed our 6-day stay at the Somerset. Pros: 1. The property is not huge, but well maintained and feels like a community. We love the infinity pool which is steps to the beach. The courtyard is lovely and kids can run around without getting into the street/traffic (the hotel is a gated property). 2. Staff is friendly and happy. They always helped with beach chairs, umbrellas and towels whenever we are at the beach or pool. Johnson and Berry at the front desk are very helpful. 3. The free happy hour is a lovely addition to our stay. Great d'oeuvres and rum punch. 4. There's a mini kids camp that Ms. Sharon from the resort runs on site. There was a 2 hour session in the morning and one session in the pm. No fancy activities but enough to keep kids occupied so we can run to the grocery store, relax at the beach or simply take a nap. Cons: 1. The included breakfast is not too good. We've been to other 5 star hotels in Turks and Caicos and the breakfast was way better - omelet station, buffet style food etc. But the breakfast here is on the lower quality side. You can pay extra to get breakfast off the menu but we didn't. 2. Everything is island time. Prepare to wait 45 minutes for your lunch at the pool. We also called main…
We were 5 adults and two kids, staying in two separate rooms. Pros: - Large comfortable rooms with good amenities - Beautiful property, including the beachfront and pool - Staff of the Hotel (shout out to Berry and Malaika, who were incredibly helpful throughout our stay) - Despite some negative reviews here, we enjoyed the barbecue party at the beach. The food was good and the kids enjoyed the dancing and the fire show. - Proximity to Grace Bay road restaurants, coffee shops etc. Cons: - Terrible breakfast (the “included” breakfast is abysmal, while the other breakfast options are pricey). The daily vouchers that you HAVE to produce in order to get this tepid breakfast makes you feel like you’re in a prison setting! - No room service - how they can charge more than $1200 a night and not have room service is beyond me. - Really average yet expensive restaurant. There are much better options on Grace Bay road (which is a 5 min drive away) - Bad Wi-Fi Overall, for this price point and for a hotel claiming to be 5-star, this was a disappointing experience. A lot of the issues could be fixed if the restaurants are run better (I was told they are run separately from the hotel). We stayed at the Wymara a couple of years ago, and had a much better experience there (pity it was fully booked this time around!).…
We’ve recently spent a wonderful week at the Somerset and are already thinking about when we can go back. The resort, beach, and views are stunning, and we felt relaxed as soon as we stepped foot on the property. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, especially to our 2 year old and 5 year old there with us. Miss Sharon who runs the kids club in particular is a gem! Our 5 year old went to every possible session of the kids club and enjoyed it so much, thanks to Miss Sharon’s warmth and creative activities. We loved having lunch at the pool every day with delicious food and drinks. Ask Mr. Biggs for a Mango Tango (off menu), it’s amazing! The beach never felt too crowded, and in general the resort had a serene quality. Highly recommend and can’t wait to return!
My family of 4 adults and 2 toddlers have stayed at wonderful resorts - Jumby Bay, Antigua and The Caribbean Club, Grand Cayman. We loved both of them. But then we discovered The Somerset and Turks & Caicos where we just returned from 8 magical days. The beauty of The Somerset grounds, the warm and welcoming staff, the peacefulness, whether on the beach or at the pool, far surpassed what we had experienced elsewhere. Every nook of the hotel was beautifully appointed as was our room. What made our stay even more special was the friendliness of the staff - be it at the front desk, by the pool, at Barbetta restaurant on the premises, the famous “Miss Sharon” who runs the Kids Club or the exceptional housekeeper Jackie who deftly navigated around the children and who by the time we left was hugging us goodbye. Several local restaurants were a short walk along the beach. Taxi’s were reasonable for places not within walking distance. For those more adventurous there were bikes available. By the time we left the 2 year old was calling The Somerset ‘home.’ The 5 year old loved the kids club in particular and proclaimed she wanted to return to The Somerset for her July birthday. We all look forward to returning. Can't wait.…
We were anxious about taking our two year old to a condo resort where we might disturb relaxation time for others. How misplaced this anxiety was! I have traveled to many destinations and none match the "community" that this resort provided our family. From the amazing service by Berry, getting the crib in place for a nap after we arrived, to Claudine and Loxley being such amazing friends to our son, this trip left our 'fun' gas tanks on full! We left feeling sad, but looking forward to making a return trip to see our new friends in 2023!
