We just returned from our family trip to The Somerset and loved every moment of our time there. The rooms were incredibly spacious, clean, and comfortable, and the resort is small, welcoming and family friendly. Ms. Sharon, who runs the kids club, is a true gem. She welcomed my kids with open arms and was always intent on showing the kids a good time and giving the parents a much-needed break! She also hosts a movie night for the kids on Fridays and babysits. Doesn't get much better. I would also like to give a shout out to Winston, Berry, Jahnsen, and the rest of the front desk crew -- they were so helpful, friendly, and kind to my kids. Colin and AJ by the pool were also quick to get us towels, water, and anything else we needed. We love The Somerset!

Hotel's Favorite
Last month, our family of 3 returned to our favorite place on earth (TCI of course!) for what would be our 13th visit. We’ve stayed at multiple resorts over the years, but this was our first time staying at the Somerset, & to say we were blown away by it would be a vast understatement! For this trip, we decided to split our stay between another resort (for a few days), then Somerset (for a week). It was my husband & my 25th anniversary so we wanted to try something a little different, & I discovered the 2 bedroom penthouse (in the Sterling building) by fluke online. It looked intriguing, with its rooftop terrace (complete with private jacuzzi, outdoor shower, & seating areas). I thought it would be the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary! (Spoiler alert - It was even BETTER than we expected!) CHECK-IN: We arrived well ahead of check-in time, since we had to check out at our other resort at 11a. The Somerset property is secured by a gate, which will open with your room card, or someone at the front desk opens it remotely. We were greeted with a rum punch (fruit punch for my 13 y/o), freshly scented cold towels, & warm welcomes (I’m also a Dale Chihuahua fan, so I was impressed with one of his original pieces mounted behind the desk!). We were able to store our luggage in a secure room so we could hang out at the pool & beach while waiting for our room to be ready. First stop was the pool, & we were immediately greeted by Colin & AJ. They made us feel so very welcome right from the start, & we knew we had chosen the right place! We went to the beach for a little while, then someone from the front desk (I’m so sorry I forget her name, but she was lovely!) came to get us to take us to our room, bearing gifts of a Somerset tote bag, bag of cookies, & candy that matched the colors of Grace Bay. What a nice touch! OUR ROOM: As I said, I found the 2 bedroom penthouse unit (called the 2 bedroom duplex on their website) online, & booked our stay (through Turks and Caicos Reservations) at Somerset because of this room. Usually, high expectations lead to disappointment. But, as we walked into this room….MIND. BLOWN!! We were all speechless. The view - STUNNING!! We had a huge deck, complete with grill, high top table & chairs, and cushioned chaise & loveseat, all overlooking the pool & beach beyond. Large living room (with a pull out couch & plenty of comfy seating); beautiful dining room; exquisite kitchen (FIRST CLASS appliances - Viking range & fridge, trash compactor, Cuisinart small appliances, plus all of the tableware, glassware, utensils, etc you could possibly need); laundry closet (detergent provided); half bathroom; two large, beautiful bedrooms with gorgeous bathrooms & balconies (Bvlgari toiletries, that smell AMAZING, are regularly replenished, & the towels are the softest, plushest towels I’ve ever felt in my life! Robes & soft slippers are also stocked in the bedrooms. One of my favorite features was the little reading/relaxing nook in my son’s bedroom; so cozy!). All lights were on dimmers (nice touch). The suite also had an integrated Bluetooth sound system, with speakers located in every room, so you could play your own music that broadcasted throughout the entire suite. (A Soca soundtrack playing along as I live my best life in my TCI home-away-from-home? Yes, please!) But the piece de resistance of our suite was accessed by a curving staircase that lead to the rooftop terrace…..oh WOW! First of all, there was even a wet bar & mini fridge on the landing at the top of said staircase so you could easily access refreshments when you were on the roof. But that rooftop….you could see the ENTIRE ISLAND from up there!! We had our own loungers, table & chairs, jacuzzi, more chairs & seating nooks. It was perfection. The live webcam on Somerset’s website? That is mounted on this room’s rooftop terrace! We spent several nights just hanging out in our jacuzzi, watching shooting stars & satellites. Magical! Best view on the island for fireworks, too! And the sunsets?? Spectacular! (You do share the rooftop with the other 2 bdr penthouse unit, but you each have your own private jacuzzi, shower, & seating areas, & we only saw someone else up there 1 time). HOUSEKEEPING: I have to give accolades to our housekeeper, Jacqueline, who left our room IMPECCABLE! Best service we have had at any resort, hands down. She was so sweet, & left everything spotless. After she came in our room & cleaned, the appliances all looked like they were new out of the box. She is a gem. Somerset also does a nightly turndown service. They leave mini bottles of water & chocolates bedside. BREAKFAST: Our stay included breakfast (served 7:30a - 10:30a), which was the perfect way to begin the day. On our first full day, we stopped in at the front desk where we picked up our breakfast vouchers to use for the duration of our stay. This consisted of: coffee/tea, juice, shared plates of pastries & fresh cut fruit, 2 eggs, bacon, & choice of toast / pancake / French toast. Additional options were available for purchase. Although the breakfast was pretty basic (a lot of the other higher-end resorts have a better breakfast w/more selections & a buffet), it was decent. Service was always very good as well. RESTAURANT: We did not eat at the main restaurant (Barbetta House, which is open for dinner & is also where breakfast is served), but we did have lunch at the poolside restaurant (Barbetta on the Beach). It was FANTASTIC! I had the veggie panini w/side salad ($18 & the portion was HUGE, enough for a lite lunch the next day), & my husband had the fish tacos ($23), which were out of this world. The menu has a wide variety of options, too (including vegetarian which made me happy!). MANAGER’S PARTY: We enjoyed attending the complimentary Manager’s Party on Monday evening (from 5:30p - 6:30p). Included was rum (or fruit) punch, beer, wine, & bottled water, as well as appetizers. Again, excellent service from the servers working here. It was also the 4th of July, & Somerset had an area set up for the kids w/free hot dogs, snow cones, cotton candy, popcorn, s’mores & lawn games. Such a thoughtful way to make guests feel appreciated! BEACH BBQ & BONFIRE: This is offered every Tuesday, & although we didn’t attend (it was our last night & we’d just returned from a day trip to North & Middle Caicos), we watched the festivities from our deck & it looked like a lot of fun & a lively group. I believe the cost was $65/pp. There was music, dancing, a fire dancer, buffet & cash bar. HYDRATION: One thing worth noting is that Somerset leaves water by the gallon in the fridge for guests, replenished as needed. We brought refillable, insulated bottles with us, which was perfect for filling up & bringing to the beach. You can also ask the beach or pool attendants for complimentary bottled water. POOL: The pool is beautiful, & the attendants who work there are TOP NOTCH. Plenty of towels were available throughout the day (something not always readily available at some of the other resorts we’ve stayed at), & the chair covers were super comfortable. Colin & AJ were quick to help guests find an available chair & truly made us feel welcomed & valued each time we saw them, greeting us by name. The pool has a tiled floor, so no toe scrapes on rough concrete! Food & beverage servers at the pool (& beach!) are also excellent. They were always checking to see if we needed anything (without being obtrusive). My husband & I enjoyed lunch one day from the comfort of our pool chairs! There were pool loungers/floats available for guests to use as well. BEACH: It goes without saying that Grace Bay beach is perfection. It’s what has kept us coming back since our first trip in 2006. The stretch of beach in front of Somerset is beautiful. Beach chairs (& towels) were always available, & there is a stash of rafts / floats / beach toys to use. (Or bring your own & they will inflate them for you). NEXT TIME: We have already booked next year’s stay at Somerset (& that gorgeous 2 bdr penthouse)! We did that prior to leaving, which was a first for us in all of our 16 years of coming to TCI. That’s how much of an impression Somerset made on us. From the service & staff, to the gorgeous grounds, to the beautifully appointed rooms, Somerset greatly exceeded our expectations. We can’t wait to return! 💙

My family of three (two adults and a three year old) loved our four night stay at the Somerset to escape the Chicago cold in early February. We were there mostly during the week and away from any holiday weekends so, even though there were other guests, there were times where it felt like the Somerset was our own private resort! Our family stayed in one of the two bedroom townhomes on the croquet lawn and we were pleasantly surprised by both the size and quality of the unit, both of which exceeded our expectations. With a little one it was nice to be slightly removed from the main pool area and to have the lawn right there for her to play in. The resort staff were all helpful and friendly and assisted whenever we needed something and left us alone when we didn't (which is almost as important in our book). We arrived on a Tuesday and decided to stay on the resort for the evening beach bbq after arrival, which worked for us after a long travel day but which I also wouldn't necessarily recommend unless you're similarly not looking to find another dinner location (food was not great, but more on that in a second, and not as kid-friendly as we imagined). We mostly relaxed at the resort during our stay. Our daughter loved the pools (which are, yes, unheated and a little chilly at first but you get used to it pretty quickly) and we also spent time on the beach. Both my spouse and I used the fitness center throughout our stay. It is walkable to get into "town" and the grocery store, but was a little further than we had been expecting so we only did it as a family one time. Luckily we brought our daughter's kick scooter so she was able to use that both ways, otherwise it would have been difficult. A stroller or other mode of transportation for little kids is definitely necessary. The bikes that Somerset makes available are a nice amenity and my wife used them for a quick errand one day. We didn't end up cooking in the unit at all, somewhat contrary to our expectations, but definitely could have with the available groceries and the quality of the appliances. A couple of other notes: - The food: A lot of other reviews mention the food and it was probably the thing that gave me the biggest pause about booking at the Somerset before we decided to do it anyway. The food is fine, the reviewers complaining about it are exaggerating. Everything we had was most definitely edible (even the beach bbq buffet, which as I noted above I didn't love), if sometimes average. Is the included breakfast option limited? Yes, but it is good for what it is (eggs, breakfast meat, breads and fruit) and all the other menu options are discounted for hotel guests. If you want a lavish, included, breakfast spread you should find an all-inclusive resort to stay at instead, as the Somerset very much is not an all-inclusive experience. We ate lunch at the poolside restaurant twice and also thought it was good for what it was - I personally am not looking for gourmet lunch options poolside, not sure what the other reviewers expect. We went out for dinner each night (except for the Tuesday beach bbq) and the Somerset concierge was helpful in identifying options for us beyond the reservations we had already made. One final note on food: in general, I didn't find the food in Grace Bay to be outstanding, so the Somerset fare was very much in line with what we experienced at other restaurants. The fish is excellent (so fresh!) everywhere, most other things are fine. - The Thursday night island fish fry was a highlight of our trip. It is easily walkable from the Somerset and the variety and quality of the food vendors was fantastic. - We didn't venture off resort for too many other activities, but the concierge helped us book a reef tour through Undersea Adventure, which was the perfect format and length (~45 minutes) for our three year old. Some other excursions sounded more exciting, but this was absolutely the right type experience for our daughter (who loves turtles, and saw many from the undersea viewing area). - Our daughter was a little too young for the kids club, but we saw other kids taking advantage of it and it looked great! - Airport transportation needs to be arranged separately (the Somerset concierge can help with this), but we found the entire Grace Bay area to be navigable without renting a car.

This is a belated review from August 2022. My family and I stayed in a 3 bedroom residence for over 2 weeks - and has stayed in the same residence for 10 days in 2021. The pros - Ms. Sharon at the Kids Club and the staff at the pool are lovely. The residence is spacious - having laundry in the room is a big perk. The cons- food at the resort is not great. We cooked breakfast in most mornings and dined out a lot. Housekeeping though friendly - was inconsistent. Some days they came so late that turndown was showing up an hour later. I could actually overlook the cons - but for what happened on our last day. We were due to check out on a Sunday. Our rental care company was coming to pick us up at 1:00 to get us to the airport and despite having just spent a tremendous amount of money - and despite being repeat guests to the resort -we were told by the manager that a late checkout of 1:00 was not possible and we needed to get out things out of the room by 12. When my husband pointed out to him the amount of $ we had just spent and that it was only an hour - he became nasty and literally sent housekeeping up to our room at noon bang on the door and stand there and stare at us like criminals as we left. It was a terrible ending to our trip. I am planning this year's trip now and sorry to say this bridge has for sure been burned.

My family of 4 (2 kids age 13 and 17) recently stayed at the somerset. Turks was busier than usual with it being Christmas break but Somerset still felt relaxing. We had no problems finding chairs at the pool or the beach. The beach in front of the somerset really is the prettiest on grace bay. We had a car but for daily exercise, we used the complimentary bikes or walked to shops and cafes. The Somerset staff really are amazing. On Monday night, there were s’mores for the kids and drinks/hot d’ouvres for the adults by the pool with live music. The massage therapist at the spa was excellent. We stayed in a 1 bdrm 2 bath townhouse (1B) which was recently updated with a spacious master bdrm and 2 twin beds up in the loft. It was very clean and brightly lit. Everything about our stay was pleasant and convenient.

The pros: Nice pool and beautiful beach (but pool not heated — big detraction, see below) Housekeeping was terrific - best I’ve ever experienced. The appliances in the kitchen were plenty and new Ms Sharon was awesome with babysitting and the kids activities The daily kids club with great creative activities and the kids movie nights (with fresh popped popcorn and hotdogs) were absolute highlights. Managers cocktail party was super. Not feel crowded even during height of season Big courtyard for kids to play Has a boutiquey feel Good location near town but not in town Everyone is very nice and friendly The cons: As above - pool not heated. This was a huge disappointment. Food at the restaurant is terrible and overpriced. Some of the worst food I’ve ever eaten was for the breakfast. We ate there twice and then just cooked breakfast in our room Pool restaurant also abysmal. We went to the next door Palms for lunch as it was so much better for the same price. Multiple guests remarked on how poor the pool lunch food was. Pricing for the airport kept changing — it was 15 a head and then 20 a head with no explanation. I felt like they were making it up. Beach and pool attendants just sit there. They don’t help you with towels or chairs. The room felt beaten up and worn down. Furniture didn’t seem updated which is okay with little kids but still for the price point felt like a rip off. Beach party was overpriced for the quality of the food. Overall service seemed a bit tired. No active engagement to help book restaurants or trips. Overall this is a nice place to go with your family. But it’s not a 5 star resort. It has a homey feel which is why I think people go back. If you want an upscale resort there are better options at a similar price point, even for families, though they will be bigger and less boutiquey.

My family and I have been coming to The Somerset for years. The hotel is amazing and the staff is always so friendly and helpful. Plus its the most beautiful beach in the world! Billy, Winston, Tanya, Biggy....just to name of a few are so amazing, warm and welcoming! They remember you every time you come and truly make you feel like family! My husband and I got engaged there last April and just had our wedding this November 2022. It was hands down the best weekend of my life! We will go back hopefully a few times a year and continue to go with our own families! If you have a chance to visit the beautiful island of Turks staying at Somerset is a MUST!!!

The most amazing resort we’ve visited in 40 years, multiple trips, and this month back-to-back weddings, including our daughter’s for 80 people. The staff is the best starting with Tanya Williams, the source of everything and anything, plus Mr. Biggs, the headmaster of the glorious pool bar overlooking the glistening bay. Then there’s Nadine, Jodesti, Colin, Winston, Berry, Loxley, the list goes on and on. All with specific jobs but their most important job is making the guest happy. We LOVE The Somerset. We love Turks. We love five o’clock, rum punch in hand, watching the sun go down.

The staff, the property, everything about the Somerset is like a home away from home. I love Winston, Billy, and the guys at the front desk (can't remember his name I'm sorry). They are all excellent. The rooms are beautiful in size. The beach staff, I can't forget them or the pool guys. everyone remembers us. We have stayed here multiple times and will gladly go back again. Its a relaxed safe place to stay. Thank you for helping my family make beautiful memories. And the waitresses at the restaurant for the breakfast can't forget them. Every tine we stay I wish I had the means to stay longer. But to be able to come back here more than once is a blessing all in itself.

We enjoyed our 5th stay here on our 12th trip to Provo and had a wonderful one bedroom villa in Stirling with a pool & ocean view. The units here are high end and make it feel like being home. Daily housekeeping with turndown was much appreciated. Many of the staff remembered us from prior stays and greeted us warmly, including at dining. We enjoyed the pools, the beach loungers and the hobie cat, along with nice walks in either direction. We hope that the new General Manager is able to simplify the breakfast by eliminating an ala carte menu and simply including a varied choice of items, similar to what was in place before. Sadly a local drone business appeared on the beach during our stay and upset us and a number of other guests with their overcrowded tent, the noisy and bothersome drones AND the scantily clad, non-family poses by their customers. Hopefully the Owners, managers and TCI government will relocate such businesses to remote beaches around the island and restore the wonderful family environment in front of the Somerset.
