Beautiful place, great service, food was just average! Expected much better for the price. Resort also did not have many dining options. You are far from the main town. Didn’t like that Resort charged a minimum $130 for any transportation even when they picked you up and drove you to the airport! After $2500 per night! A bit abusive.

My wife and I spent three nights and four days at the beautiful Aman property in Turks and Caicos. Set in a quiet, serene location away from everything else the property is well positioned for a quiet and unique getaway. But clearly service has suffered in light of the pandemic either due to staffing shortages or poor training. Our room was wonderful (despite a small Mechanical issue mentioned below). Be careful spending the up-charge for the ocean pavilion. Ours was a tunnel view and not all ocean rooms are created equal. It was a gorgeous view, but a waste of money. If you book an ocean villa request a different one other than 114. Unfortunately despite its beauty the service was no better than an average Hilton or Marriott resort. For the rate one would expect “customized” service but that wasn’t the case. Staff members were forgetful, most meals required duplicate request for simple things like drinks, and the beaches and pools were generally unattended. We didn’t plan to have to do things like find storage boxes for our own towels, track down bartenders for water, etc. We had to call a few times to have our room attended too and things like refilling the mini bar required follow-up calls. One night our fan controller in our room started sparking and we called for maintenance and when the tech arrived his response was “turn it off and we will fix it in the morning”…which never happened. Not a big deal, but for the price things in the room should work. Also, despite descriptions, rooms don’t have TVs. Despite advance planning for spa services, the staff was unprepared when we arrived having confused what services we want. The spa technicians themselves were amazing and a bright spot in the overall experience but clearly there isn’t much communication between the concierge/front desk staff and the spa. Personal training with Ryan was a bright spot; he was new to property so luckily wasn’t jaded by the poor training many of his colleagues had! Working out with him for an hour is worth it! The front desk staff was generally cold and dismissive. Things like asking for account statements and charges throughout our stay proved difficult, and calling for rides between our villa and property amenities rarely produced a ride. Our initial host/property tour guide (Ruth) seemed in a hurry to dump us at our villa and failed to inform us of the very specific nuances around COVID testing (like it stopping at 10:30am). When we showed up late not knowing there was a cutoff, her response was “we tried to reach you”. I’m not sure she has the right personality for hospitality. Most of the bartenders were unfriendly and seemed annoyed with requests for anything but a drink. When we arrived after 3pm on our first day (the cutoff for lunch), we asked them for a menu and were told we’d have to go to our rooms to order (despite our tour guide telling us we could order from room service anywhere on site). I challenged the bartender and eventually, and much to his annoyance, he relented and found me a menu. Most meals had problems; food cooked with ingredients requested to be excluded, servers failing to check in, slow drink orders, or forgotten things all together. The food was excellent and the chefs deserve compliments for that, but their front end staff is lazy and inattentive. Lastly, and causing the most frustration, the resort was playing host to a large corporate group during our stay. They failed to inform us when we checked in that this group would be prioritized and one night the restaurant and bar were closed to support this group. The group played loud music into the evening also spoiling our ability to enjoy a drink after dinner on our patio. Not a huge thing overall, but we would have expected better communication and maybe the staff offering room service without a delivery charge? Instead we either had to listen to the noise at the beach club or pay the exorbitant room service charge. This group was also clearly requiring a lot of attention from the staff and many times during our meals we felt like “lesser guests” as managers and servers doted on their crew (probably deserved for what they spent but shouldn’t come at the expense of other guests). My wife and I can be tough critics but for ~$4,000/night I expect a near perfect experience. To be fair to the resort, on the second night I asked to see a manager to discuss all of the above. A wonderfully nice man named Rupseh sat with me and apologized and acknowledged the staffing and training challenges and asked for the chance to “make it right”. He brought us a lovely dessert that evening but that was the end of it. At no point did I feel the staff truly wanted to right the ship and make us feel more welcome. Others may have a nicer experience and my guess is the key to this property is to spend more if you want the attention. Probably not the best place for a quiet couples getaway if service is key to you, as you’ll feel forgotten and like a burden to the staff. Simple things like a manager seeing us on our last day to follow-up would have gone a long way, but I honestly don’t think the staff cared. Definitely spoiled (in a bad way) our first Aman experience…and may be the last given the price.

Whenever I start a review with negative comments (if any) and end with positives, my visit to a destination is deemed one that I would not forget for all the wonderful moments that I experienced, and it would command another visit. Unfortunately, that is not the direction I am steering towards when it comes to Amanyara. I have always had the highest admiration and amazement for the Aman properties around the world for their luxury, style, design, quality, and 5-star service. Amanyara definitely ticked most of those categories but sadly it was strongly lacking in many aspects when it came to the service and one too many issues turned a wonderfully romantic getaway into something that left a lot to be desired at the end. My special lady and I visited Amanyara two weeks ago for a romantic, relaxing and peaceful getaway to de-stress from the grind of daily life. On arrival at the property, we found it to be everything that we had hoped for. Beautifully spread out over thousands of acres with spectacular views of the Ocean, with a bar and restaurant, and spa and wellness services all overlooking and surrounded by carefully thought-out designs to make you feel at peace and give you the sense of calm that one looks for when they choose to spend a few days at such a property. I reached out to the hotel a few days in advance of our arrival to make some special arrangements and the staff, who were all very warm and courteous, came through wonderfully on everything. Flowers in the room before arrival, a very romantic private dining experience in the Cove on our first night there, last minute arrangements to go diving the next day morning, very good spa treatments, and a really wonderful yoga meditation experience where we were lucky to be the only two people that morning, and so it felt like our own private session, and a wonderful arrangement for a private in-room dining experience on our last night that added even more romance to our stay. The complementary option of having breakfast in-room was great and gave us more time to stay in and relax. One issue that we faced but which actually turned out to be a blessing was having to switch rooms for the last night of our stay as our original room was not available. This gave us the chance to experience and thoroughly enjoy two amazing accommodations at Amanyara – The Deluxe Pool Pavilion and The Ocean Cove Pavilion. Both rooms are highly recommended for two very unique and fantastic experiences. Now if only we had the chance to leave this resort with all these positively amazing memories, but sadly having faced more than one unacceptable issue after another, we in fact left feeling somewhat upset and with the calm and peace of the previous couple of days being undone to some extent, leaving a lot to be desired. I am not one to usually complain and almost always look at the positives and try to ignore the negatives. But when you plan a luxury holiday with no limits on your budget and have paid the same, then you expect the best of the best, especially from a property with the reputation that Aman resorts have come to be known for around the world. I am going to go day by day here because yes sadly we did end up having to endure bad experiences from our first night there. What should have been a perfect private dining experience to get our romantic getaway off to the right start, was dampened (and no I am not referring to the rain that showed up), by a 4-course customized menu not worthy of a luxury resort and by a Chef who clearly did not know his Art. Unable to give proper suggestions or recommendations, the lack of seafood options available, made us question if the Chef had the right culinary skills and expertise to justify the private dining experience. Unfortunately, we had an even worse experience on our last night when we requested a private dining experience in the comfort our room. Again, everything was amazing when it came to the setup and the arrangements, but disappointed by the food, it took away from the overall experience. Sadly, our hopes of a peaceful in-room breakfast on our last day, would have given us more to be happy about as we left the resort, but again it was not to be. The resort claims that they do not allow drones to maintain the privacy and tranquility for their Guests, but due to a lapse in security and proper protocols to check on these things led to our morning being completely ruined by a drone flying right over our room and at times dropping so low with the clear intention of violating every ounce of our privacy with a clear view of us. Add to that the noise of a cheap drone, left us even more furious and annoyed as we checked out and headed to the airport. There is a lot that the Management can and needs to do to meet the high standards of Aman properties all over the world and I sincerely hope that this review is taken seriously to enforce those very changes.

I will never give another Aman resort my business. What a disaster from start to finish. They were disorganized, poorly trained, and had no idea what was going on. We were constantly told incorrect things, mislead, and lied to about every aspect of our stay. Some employees were friendly, others were not. The rooms were average, with various items broken, and featured a squeaky fan and broken window that kept us up all night. When we went to check out, we noticed we were charged $900 for items that we didn’t order or were suppose to be included with our stay (they charged us for water for example). We protested, they were rude and held firm, and now I will have to dispute the charges with Amex. Judging by the other people who were checking out at the same time, it’s obvious we weren’t the only ones who had these issues. For rooms that cost $4k/night, we expected a lot more. Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere.
