The Sandbar is excellent for getting to know locals, and the food and drinks are the best on the island. We stayed in the Jungle Bungalow and it was just what we needed. This is the closest to the ocean we have stayed anywhere, it takes less than a minute to walk across the road to the beach. We brought some food items with us, and usually ate breakfast and lunch at the bungalow. We found that prices at the grocery store were overall about 10-20% more than what we pay in Canada. Beer is much more expensive, but hard liquors were about the same if not cheaper.
We loved our stay at Manta House, and will definitely be back.

Katya arranged transportation with Patsy to and from the airport. Patsy was very nice and took us to 2 stores for “supplies” and would wave and chat with us when passing the manta house.
The manta house bungalows are in a great location, across from a small beach and the Sand Bar restaurant, next door to the Secret Garden resaurant, down the street from the Osprey restaurant and just steps away from 3 dive shops.
The middle bungalow has 3 bedrooms with individual climate control. The larger, master bedroom is in the back, has its own ensuite bathroom, couch, tv and private deck. The other two bedrooms share a bathroom that is located off the kitchen. The full kitchen was nicely stocked with the essentials.
Katya was very nice and helpful and checked in on us daily. She was quick to get anything we needed and assist with any issues. The a/c in the master bedroom was not working well so she had someone out to fix it. The hot water heater for the house was not working, leaving us without hot water for 24 hours, however, she was able to get a new tank quickly. She brought us a DVD player and iron upon request. She drove us the the cruise ship area twice, to pickup our rental car for the day and to pickup dinner one night which was very nice and saved our group of 6 quite a bit of money since taxi’s are per person and expensive to go even a short distance.
There are not many places to eat, however, our favorite was BBQ night at Guanahani. The Sand Bar is convenient, less expensive than most places, and very good. Secret Garden at the Salt Raker was also good and the Osprey just ok. We, also, had pizza delivered from Mookie Pookie pizza which was decent but pricey.
Unless you are a diver, I would not recommend this island. It is very small, in bad condition, not much to do, and very expensive. For example, a case of coors light was $72. The local turks head beer is cheaper at about $50/case.
Of our group of 6, 3 were divers and dove with Oasis and enjoyed it. Our group of 6 did 2 excursions to salt caye and gibbs caye and and they were just ok . . . expensive, on the small dive instead of an excursion boat and in rough water.
I would, highly, recommend the Manta House if you are traveling to grand turk.
I've stayed at the Manta House twice before in the last 5 or 6 years and it was OK. It's just a bedroom (3 available) with a tiny bath down the hall. It's a place to sleep. It does have AC, but also, on this last visit, an infestation of ants. It took a long time to get our rooms. I'm certain that in the past it was $50/night. This time (late May 2009) it was $70. And previously credit cards were accepted. But not this time. Cash only. Plus the 10% tax. Especially given that the shower had only the barest of trickle the next morning, it was a heavy price to pay. With a cab fare of $20 each way in addition, I would have slept in the plane were it not for my travel companion (female, accustomed to the finer things in life).
We considered a "real" hotel a few blocks away but at twice the price (and we needed two rooms) and the late arrival hour and early departure hour, she agreed that it wasn't worth it.
On one of the three stays I was offered a continental (sort of) breakfast. Not this time, but we would have been unable to avail ourselves anyhow due to our early departure.
This time it was pointed out that they also have a little bungalow for rent. No idea of the price. It was occupied.
A positive of staying here is the Sand Bar bar they have directly across the street, right on the water. The food was OK for a snack bar. Drink selections tend to be spotty. On previous trips I was told bar/cafe charges could be added to the room. Wasn't given that offer this time. No big deal.
Their appear to be 3 family-member owners. Only one was in presence this trip. She was nice.
Right on the beach, deep sea and snorkle diving nearby, close to the best restaurants in town, owners who are friendly, top notch, very professional and always available, the Manta House is hard to beat.

If you want to get away from it all, get your "zen on", and stay in a gorgeous property with the friendliest of people, this is for you!
Tonya and Katya went above and beyond, from picking me up at the airport, showing me where to do my shopping, (walking distance), and made me feel like one of the family. With a full kitchen, Beautiful Decor, and amazing view...I could not have asked for more, and I cannot wait to return! Tonya and Katya check in on you everyday without intruding, they always have a smile, and make sure you need for not! The Sand Bar has great food, friendly people, and is literally steps from your front door. There are other restaurants on the island also most within walking distance. I was there to DIVE and RELAX..and it was BEYOND perfect. If you are truly looking to get away from busy, touristy destinations, were you are just another guest..this is NOT FOR YOU! If you want to relax, dive, read, listen to music and have a few cocktails as the sun goes down, while instantly feeling welcomed as a part of this small local community of amazingly friendly people..then look no further. I was a mush ball of relaxed by the end of my too short week there. If you are traveling alone, it is safe, clean, and absolutely perfect. Thank you Tonya and Katya for a MOST PERFECT getaway! (P.S., the Dive Shops are steps away, and they even have 'Beach pick up' right out front, (weather permitting.), if you dive with Blue Water Divers - ( Just Terrific!)
