If I come back to POS. I would definitely stay here again. The staff were amazing and made my stay as if we were family and friends. You really get more of a fill for being immersed in POS staying here. Located behind the US embassy it is literally centralized in location to the best spots in town, most all within walking distance. I felt safe and really enjoyed the front patio area in the evening while drinking a glass of wine. The lodge itself is very homely and clean. Mischief better than staying downtown or in one of the chain hotels.

Great location just down the street from the Magnificent Seven houses and the USA Embassy. A convenience store, bars, restaurants, and the food trucks in Queens Park are a short ride away, The hostess, Donna, is easy to work with and can arrange transportation services at a very fair price. Rooms are comfortable, quiet, spacious, and contain a refrigerator.

We stayed for 2 nights. The staff is very warm and welcoming. As opposed to large hotels, they care about your where abouts, if you managed to make your plans for the day and about your well beings in general and it feels authentic and nice. On the first morning we left very early to get to the ferry, but still there was hot coffee and toast waiting for us. Second day breakfast was very generous and tasty. We tried the local breakfast and it was great.
Room (no 2) was not large but very clean and well maintained. The inn is in a beautiful old refurbished building with high ceilings and a lovely small garden, and it has it's own parking.

First of all, its located in the middle of one of the worst neighbourhoods. The taxi driver had problems finding it. When we arrived, we saw a little house with sink roof and about 15 bags full of trash. Room had no curtain. Had this ginormous light in front of the window, and was afraid for anyone passing by could see inside. I did not sleep. Room was very tiny. A little bed and table. In the morning I had to walk about 45 minutes to get to a taxi because we could not get any taxis in that neighbourhood. That day we moved out and went to a real hotel in the middle of a civilized world. Never ever ever again. What a nightmare that was.

Response from General M, General Manager at The Inn At 87
Responded Mar 28, 2014
We believe this person has made in error in attributing these remarks to the Inn at 87 Neither the description of the area nor the property details provided by the writer reflects the actual location or quality of our establishment.

You have no privacy or security at this establishment, with everyone who works there down to the cleaners all up in your business and making inappropriate comments about the guests! When you are in the room, there is no added security of having an inside chain or lock, and no privacy sign if you do not wish to be disturbed or have your room rumaged through if you go out. There are no security cameras on the premises and the door is opened to whoever rings the doorbell day or night. Why should I have to pay top dollars for a hotel room only to have my room key demanded back from me everytime I go out like I am a child? The front desk receptionists doubles as cooks and do not even wash their hands before preparing meals which leaves a lot to be desired. They claim to be a small hotel but charge big hotel prices, so it's is only fair that they provide big hotel service and security! I will refrain from commenting about the eccentric character who resides there.

Response from innat87, Owner at The Inn At 87
Responded May 5, 2010
The Inn at 87 is an intimate, sophisticated Boutique- style establishment with 1 main active entrance and exit. It allows for much better control of traffic and by extension security, than larger hotels with their multiple entrances and anonymous public trekking through the vast public spaces. We know who is in and who is out, and holding room keys when a guest is off compound is in itself a security measure practiced by many hotels internationally. The main door is kept locked at all times and opened only when staff have taken sight of the visitor, bearing in mind that no hotel in the world can assess the intent of anyone who enters its space. This client exposed herself and the Inn to risk, by her admission of various unauthorised persons into her room over the period of her stay. This undesirable exposure was of concern to both the management and staff of the Inn. Carnival is the busiest period of the year in Trinidad. In the hospitality business, resources are typically strained at this time, and it is not unusual for front desk staff countrywide, to get involved with ensuring that the breakfast service is not compromised. As testified by the previous writer, our rates reflect the price increase inherent in peak time occupancy, and are the best value for money anywhere in Trinidad at this time. We stand by our price offerings at this and any other time of year. Valentine is the eccentric ‘character’, who does odd jobs around the Inn, escorts clients around - day or night, and is of priceless benefit to the establishment. We are very disappointed at this individual’s attempts to malign and sour our reputation at this early stage of our operation, because we expressed concern over her behavior as our guest at the Inn.

It was my second time going to Carnival, but my first time staying at The Inn at 87. I knew Carnival would be enjoyable and amazing, but my stay at The Inn was the cherry on top because it was absolutely fantastic. I stayed in a room with two full size beds with 2 girlfriends. It was on the small side but I didn't notice because I am from NYC and am used to limited space. We were all very comfortable, and very happy that the bed sheets and towels were new and soft. A small detail I liked was that there was another restroom down the hall, so if the room's bathroom was occupied you had a nearby option. The service was amazing. The staff was so nice and I felt so comfortable and safe. The breakfasts were delicious and it was actually sad when having our last. They even had snacks out during the day, including cooked foods. They left us gifts in our rooms on a couple of days that we just loved so much. Our room was clean, the AC was great, we had wifi in our room (most of the time), they didn't say anything about our messes (sand from the beach, or even after an alternative jouvert when we accidentaly left a red hand print on the door). After monday jouvert the staff had a hose, soap, and towels outside to wash off all the mud. They even cleaned our muddy shoes for us! The location was pretty perfect too. Being right near the Savannah it made finding and getting home very easy. Ms. Donna and her staff are great people. The Inn at 87 is an absolute gem.

The *only* place to stay in Port-of-Spain! Stayed here in 2011 so already knew it was wonderful but I have to put on record here the warmth with which Donna welcomed me back on email when I wrote to ask for a room, and the ease at which my request for a day-only stay was accommodated (as I had a whole day in transit through P-o-S and didn't want to hang around at the airport). As a result I had the perfect day in Port-of-Spain. I was picked up in style by Michael, one of their regular drivers, and a real gem, too and taken to the Inn, where a warm welcome from Donna and a lovely little airconditioned room was waiting for me, as was one of their legendary breakfasts. The neighbourhood is wonderful and in the few hours I had I could rest, check my email, take a walk around the savannah and visit the Botanical gardens, pop into Rituals Coffee a five minute walk away, and get one of the best rotis in town from another location in Tragerete-- all on recommendation from Donna. When I got my roti back they even put it ceremoniously on a plate for me so that I could eat it in a civilised fashion and keep Donna company while she had her own lunch. What with chatting with her about this and that it was suddenly time for me to be taken back to the airport by Michael, who very kindly let me sleep all the way through even though we knew by then we greatly enjoyed each other's chatting company!
It was marvellous to return to Port-of-Spain and the feeling of being comfortable in this city must be totally attributed to the warmth, efficiency and friendliness of the Inn at 87.
Book early and succumb to its delightful charms :-)
Oh yes, it is sparkling clean. I've never seen a cleaner property in my life!

We arrived by rental car after a last minute change of plans when we realised a taxi into town would cost the same as 24 hrs car rental ($35 US). Luckily we managed to rent a sat nav which guided us in but the guest house still wasn't easy to find- there is no sign. It's situated a block back from Cipriani Boulevard in the Newtown district in a nice old single storey building. There is a drive for parking (more of that later!). We were admitted through a security door and shown to our room- I confirmed it was on the 'quiet' side of the building having read reviews of noise from
the music bar next door.
The room was small with original wooden floor, nicely decorated and seemed very clean. It had TV, fridge,A/C etc .The bed was comfy and the sheets were crisp and smelt newly laundered.
Upon arrival we received somewhat confusing directions on where to walk and not to walk after dark which left us a little paranoid though that's probably not a bad thing in Port of Spain.
Arriving mid afternoon we went for a walk in the area near the hotel. Noticing that my car was blocking in one already on the drive,as we left I offered to leave my keys. The desk clerk said no it's ok, and something along the lines of 'we'll call you if we need you to move', which I thought was strange. As we were making our way back to the hotel I noticed a missed call from a local number and tried to call it back but continually got an engaged tone. Upon arrival at the hotel we were greeted by the owner who was furious that we'd blocked her in and was late for an appointment. I explained that we'd offered to leave the keys but that didn't help her situation. I didn't blame her for being angry but it felt a little unfair that we seemed to be getting the blame!
There are a few bars and restaurants within 10 minutes walk of the guest house and towards the end of the evening we ended up in the Kaiso Blues cafe next door which featured a number of young local musicians (this was a Saturday night) and we did wonder how loud it would be when we returned to our room around midnight. Unfortunately the answer was VERY loud, and we always travel with ear plugs. We closed the windows which helped somewhat but the noise still caused the building to vibrate ( I guess it's an old wooden building which carries the sound). Aided by a good few beers and rums we got to sleep but were woken around 8am by the pounding bass of what sounded like a keep fit class up the street. Apart from the noise late and early we actually slept well in the comfy beds.
Breakfast is included in the room rate and it was absolutely delicious. The owner persuaded us to try their homemade salt fish, and after a taste we readily agreed. Served diced and with a tomato and onion salad, plantain and coconut bread it was easily the best breakfast on our trip.
I'm having difficulty in my rating of the hotel- the room was fine,it's in a lovely old house in a decent area of town and the breakfast was great-5 stars on all that. However, staying on a Saturday with a gig next door, I don't believe there is such a thing as a 'quiet room' in the building, and that should have been pointed out when booking. Plus the car parking mix up, cause me to reduce my score to 3. On a non weekend day it could easily have been 5.

I stayed at Inn at 87 for seven nights as I came to Trinidad for the Christmas holiday. This was an excellent and very comfortable stay. The location of the B&B is great; really close to many restaurants and bars. It is also very close to the Queens Park Savannah which I really enjoyed. The staff at Inn at 87 was exceptionally kind, personable, and professional...shout out to Mary and Marcia!!!! Mary makes some awesome scrambled eggs by the way! This was a great stay and I highly recommend Inn at 87 to anyone that is looking for comfort at a great price!

I stayed here last year for Carnival and returned last week for a few days to attend some pre-Carnival 2015 events. Everyone remembered me and it was like coming home. From Valentine to Donna to Mary, the best "do-anything, get-everything done with a smile" hospitality personnel I've met in my travels. I had a nice size room with two double beds--super clean with flat screen tv, great a/c and the best part is that breakfast was included, and they made me exactly what I wanted. I love hanging out on the outdoor porch and garden, which is an oasis of bamboo and greenery in the midst of Port-of-Spain. The Inn is also very close to restaurants, bars, next door to a piano bar, and the Savannah where the Panorama events were held was a short walk away so we just walked over and walked back. This is absolutely my favorite place to stay in Trinidad and I wouldn't choose a big hotel over the personalized service here. At the end of our trip, the Inn arranged for a great taxi driver, Michael, to take us back to the airport. Michael was so personal and friendly that even the drive back to the airport was enjoyable. Michael is available for day time tours as well so we plan to contact him next time we're in Trini. All in all a fabulous place to stay!!!
