The Hermitage is a small plantation inn with an excellent reputation for its charm and warm, West Indian hospitality. The guest rooms are like gingerbread cottages and are styled after the old Planter’s house with a tradition of elegant West Indian style, antiques, mahogany four poster canopy beds, and private verandahs, with swaying hammocks, in an orchard like setting of mango trees and tropical plants. The Hermitage offers tranquility and serenity in its peaceful environment.

This place is special. REALLY special. It's a labour of love, the history is fabulous, and the time and effort and feeling that this family has poured into preserving the existing space and creating something beyond that is truly unbelievable. It is not the fanciest place on the island, but it is the most authentic, the most welcoming, the most relaxing and interesting place you are going to find. They have a wonderful staff who go out of their way to help you experience the best of the island, the restaurant and bar is full of interesting people and great decor. Mealtimes felt like a big extended family coming together. And none of this comes at the expense of gorgeous accommodations (we stayed in the Carriage House), landscaping that feels fairy-tale like at times, a wonderful pool/lounging area, terrific bar with Shawn offering curated rum flights, and excellent food and wine (I may never fully recover from the Wednesday night buffet/pig roast experience). We have been a lot of places in the world, and this is right at the top. We ended up extending our trip by another couple of days, and when touring the island we stopped in at Montpelier, Golden Rock and the Four Seasons as options for our extended stay. We decided to stay at the Hermitage for the entire duration, everything else felt sterile in comparison. This has a true island vibe. Thanks guys, we had such a lovely time. See you soon.

We went there for lunch and dinner, on Friday afternoons they have brick oven pizzas. The place and the grounds are amazing, full of history. The music playing in the background is soft piano which matches the elegance of the place. The entire time we were there we felt like we were dinning at a relative’s house, very cozy.

Plus, on our way out we saw like 10 monkeys, such a great experience!!

Richie, Annie and Cadillev made us feel like family from start to finish. A taxi was waiting for us at the St Kitts Airport which took us directly to a water taxi and we were transported the 20 minutes or so to Nevis as we enjoyed a complimentary Carib beer and a Ting soda. On the Nevis dock, another taxi was arranged to pick us up and take us to the Hermitage. Nevis is a quiet island but has everything you could want for a relaxing break. The Hermitage is a lovely inn with comfortable cottages decorated in a traditional manner which takes you back in time.We loved every moment and the entire staff splendid!

So, where do I start? If you like queuing for breakfast, or buffet food that has been warmed for ages, this is not for you! If you like noise, parties, loud staff and corny entertainment, this is not for you! If you like sitting at all bar, throwing back shots, this probably isn’t for you either, however…

If you love peace, serenity, wonderful food, considerate staff and, did I say peace? This IS for you!

The Hermitage is lovely, it’s quiet and colonial with pleasant pool and beautifully individually styled lodges.

The staff are warm and friendly, there when you need them but discreet too and not at all overbearing. I must name a handful, Candilla, a legend! Knows everything you will need her to know for making your stay perfect. Shaun is a gentleman with a talent for his amazing Rum punch! Rosalind and Tash, they are just lovely, many more people here that I don’t know names of but always smile and say hello.

Dinner at the Hermitage is a delight every evening. The quality of food and preparation really is second to none and the use of fresh, local produce apparent with every mouth full.

The entertainment… a troop of monkeys, hilarious and keep us entertained every afternoon when they come for their Mango feast!

For us, we honestly could not have wished for a more wonderful stay and highly recommend.

Nine of us enjoyed a delicious Easter lunch at the family-friendly Hermitage Plantation Inn on Easter Sunday yesterday. We were greeted personally by the extremely gracious, friendly Hermitage Plantation owners and staff. It was a bright, sunny day and the beautiful, historic inn was filled with delighted adults and children. Little girls were dressed in their colourful Easter dresses and boys in shorts and collar shirts - all laughing and playing on the sprawling lawn. The rum punch, wine and other delicious concoctions were all flowing and when the sumptuous buffet lunch was ready we all filled our plates with delicious fish, goat, chicken, fresh vegetables, salads, rice, potatoes and more. At the end of the meal we were served an incredibly rich, delicious dessert. If you haven't experienced the Hermitage Plantation Inn you must travel to the wonderful island of Nevis and do so!

I don't know where to start because everything in The Hermitage is spectacular. The staff is very friendly, attentive and careful with the details. Richie is the best Manager / host / owner that I have ever met. He was very helpful and went above and beyond to accommodate our group and make us feel at home. Everything absolutely unique from the cottages to the landscape. Spectacular views surrounded by a unique Caribbean landscape. The Hermitage is the perfect spot to be in contact with nature. The authentic Cuban cigars, the roast pig and the family atmosphere was the touch that make this trip an unforgettable experience. I will definitely be back with my family soon. The Hermitage I recommend 100%.

Once again a wonderful break from the dull grey weather in the uk. during Feb.

This was my 10th visit to Nevis and every time I’ve either stayed and / or eaten at The Hermitage.

I do believe that this the best and nicest hotel on the island having visited the others over time

There are special nights and days for the Pig Roast evening, the Goat Roast for a long leisurely lunch on a Sunday and a Pizza night
As always, nothing is too much trouble.
Strongly recommended.

If you stay here you will not be disappointed

My family and I stayed at the Hermitage in early December, 2023 and had a wonderful experience - it was truly one of the nicest places I've ever been. We were at the Yellow Manor which was an extremely large and beautiful Caribbean-style house with plenty of room for 4 people; a family of 6 would be just as comfortable. (Because one of the bedrooms is accessed through another, its suitability for a group depends on its configuration). And although the grounds and all of the buildings are beautiful and well-maintained, what makes the Hermitage truly special is its staff, including the owner/manager, Richie, and everyone else who works there. The included breakfast and afternoon tea was fantastic, as is the restaurant. I definitely recommend staying here and can't wait to return.

We have loved Hermitage for years. The family that runs the inn and restaurant are second to none. You feel welcome the moment you arrive. Wednesday night is roast pig night, Friday night is pizza night but every night there are great choices on the menu. Local cuisine, vegetarian options, steaks, fabulous soups.

Great way to meet expats and locals who live on Nevis too.

There is a fabulous gift shop, ask if they can open for you if it’s closed. Beautiful linens and great caftans and dresses and tops for women, men, and children at great price points.

Spent a week at this wonderful relaxing location. Located on the side of a mountain, it has great views, rooms, pool, staff and dining. Nevis is a small island so you are never very far from the beach, good restaurants and sites. Although unlike other vacations this was just truly relaxing with no need to get anywhere unless you want to. Just can't say enough about the Hermitage and the island of Nevis.

Are there buses from the hotel into Charlestown and to the beach?
Answer from richardlupinacci
St. Kitts
Yes, there are local busses that one can take to town. They pick up passengers along the main road. There is no regular schedule but the come and go throughout the day, they are quite easy to catch and cost only a dollar or two.

What are the prices like to dine there?
Answer from jill S

Nothing is cheap on Nevis! Wine is expensive but The Hermitage was reasonably priced as I recall. I seem to remember that our dinner bill was around £50/£60 for two with wine. I don't remember being shocked when paying the account! Wednesday night is a pig roast and well worth a trip up the track.

Renting a car for 4 days was inexpensive, about 145. Just remember, stay left!
