Just experienced the relaxation and beauty of the Montpelier! Welcomed by complimentary rum punches and the lovely Mandy who was brilliant throughout our stay. The pool is beautiful and the gardens are stunning. Breakfasts are delicious and the special breakfast buffet including local food on Sunday is not to be missed. Thank you to everyone at Montpelier who made our stay so memorable.
You can tell a lot about an inn by listening. And here is heard a running refrain of laughter from both staff and guests. Everybody stands out. No problem getting transport to the many standout restaurants off site. Bananas is particularly fun. Affordable tapas is available in the poolside bar. The dining room offers elegant and delicious dinners, priced accordingly. The history here is rich, including the restoration/recreation by the previous owner lasting more than 40 years. It is a shame that no account of Montpelier lore appears to have been written.
Every trip we come here for dinner before the sun sets. It is wonderful to walk the grounds in the light and watch the magic happen as dusk gathers, beautiful old converted sugar plantation inn. Great food and friendly service
My husband and I stopped at Montpellier for lunch on a Sunday. The grounds here are just beautiful. We walked around the property for a bit then had lunch at Indigo. The bartender and servers were so kind and hospitable. Our drinks were freshly made and very tasty. Our lunches were delicious and my husband ended up taking some of his home because he couldn’t finish it. The salad Nicoise was delicious! The staff here are top notch!
My husband and I choose Montpelier to celebrate our 20 year anniversary. We choose this property in order to have a non touristy boutique experience on an island known for its relaxed style and friendly people. From the moment we arrived in the island we felt special. From the flawless pickup at the airport to the transportation to a water taxi and on to Montpelier, the transfer could not have been easier. Our arrival rum punch and tour of the property set the stage for a wonderful 5 day visit. Our plantation room was understated and intimate with sweeping views of the ocean. Each day we enjoyed a different dining experience with an array of food offerings all delicious. The tasty and intricate menu in the Sugar Mill was as good as any meal I have had throughout the world. The wine list was extensive with a knowledgeable sommelier helping us with our selections. In the mornings, I made a coffee in our room and sat on the front veranda and watched the monkeys at the edge of the forest. The breakfast served each morning was delicious, we loved the banana pancakes! Our days were spent reading by the pool where enjoyed the vast array of refreshing cocktails expertly crafted by the always friendly Kaddy. We spent time at the private beach just a short drive away and were the only ones there with our own bartender! On Thursday evening we enjoyed the beach barbecue and the fantastic music of local island musician legend, Garlic. Watching the sun go down on the beach was one of our highlights. What makes Montpelier truly special are its people. From Leslie greeting us each morning at breakfast to the thoughtful assistance of Abi with our plans each day, and the kindness of its owner, our stay was truly magical. When we departed, we felt as though we were leaving family and friends. If you are looking for an authentic and relaxed experience with warm hospitality, look no further than Montpelier. We will return and stay longer next time. Thank you Montpelier for making our anniversary so special!…
It’s difficult to truly disconnect these days and find peace. This place is a heaven on earth. If you are looking for water slides and big screen tvs, this place isn’t for you. Montpelier Plantation and Beach in Nevis is tucked away up high on this sweet island, with glorious views of Nevis Peak. The Proprietor, affectionately known as ‘Muffin’ is the consummate host and over the course of several years has curated an ambience of serenity and calm. The gardens are magnificent and have incorporated pieces of the sugar mill remnants to create an ethereal landscape esthetic. The staff is an extension of the hospitality and are some of the kindest most friendly and professional locals here. There are several venue options for dinner, an informal tapas theme at the bar by the pool, more formal dinners on the terrace or the ultimate luxury: dinner in an old, stone sugar mill in twilight. The food is exceptional, the cocktails are heavenly. I would come back to this place again and again! Bonus: the people you will meet here over ‘drinks and hors d’œuvres’ are from all over the world and I guarantee you will walk away having made a friend or two….…
I love Montpelier plantation. I have been coming here for 12 years and have met several couples every year that have also been visiting for 15+ years. The accommodations are perfect and comfortable and do not have TV’s allowing you to really relax and unplug from the world. The grounds are spectacular and lush and the restaurants are amazing. You can choose between having a casual dining experience at their pool bar Indigo or a more fine dining experience at 750. The menu at 750 changes daily giving you lots of options if you are staying a week or more. The Chef is one of the best in the Caribbean.. his food it creative, with beautiful presentation and amazing flavors. When I first started visiting, I explored all restaurants on the island but am content now to stay on property as the options are always delicious! Among the best things at the property is the staff. They are friendly, attentive, not intrusive and they remember you and greet you like you are coming home .. giving hugs when it is time to leave! Their smiles are the best and most staff have been there for many years! The owner Muffin cares very deeply about the staff and it shows! The property sits up on the hill but has a private beach 20 mins away that is perfect. There is a shuttle service that takes you there each morning and you can take a picnic lunch, enjoy cocktails at their bar at the beach or go to a few nearby restaurants for lunch. If you are looking for a vacation destination where you can unplug and unwind, this is the best place to come!…
My wife I had a wonderful 5 day stay at Montpelier Plantation in late December 2022. We have talked about it often since our return home. The owner and staff have created a unique environment that provided us with the rest and relaxation that we needed to recharge after a busy couple of months. It was for me the most relaxing vacation I have ever had. There were many positive features: a wonderful room with a patio overlooking the ocean , a full complimentary breakfast, and then a lot to do during the rest of the day on the island. We enjoyed the hotel’s private beach, hiking to the nearby Botanical Garden, and visiting historical sites including the Alexander Hamilton museum in Charlestown. We also enjoyed several dinners at the hotel’s Indigo restaurant with its high quality menu and a great wine list. Of the many positive amenities, two really stand out. One was having afternoon tea and scones which was a good way to relax after the activities of the day, and the other was the beach barbecue with a live band and dancing on Thursday evening at sunset. It was magical. Our strongest and fondest memory, however, was the Montpelier Plantation staff. They knew our names, and their smiles and friendly greetings made us feel right at home. …
I have written multiple rave reviews of Montpelier in the past - it is, very possibly, my favourite place in the entire world - and until a few moments ago I felt another eulogy from me was probably unnecessary. But then I saw Jennifer J's diatribe. To say that my experience of Montpelier's is very different to Jennifer's is a very British understatement. I too am lucky enough to have travelled pretty extensively and to have stayed in some very luxurious hotels, but Montpelier is my pick for the 'best in the world'. The location is stunning, the buildings are interesting and beautiful, the atmosphere is relaxed and idyllic, the facilities are great, the food, wine and rum punches are first class, and, most of all, the staff, from the amazing owner and maitre d' through to the marvellous ladies who look after our room are brilliant. Like everywhere, Montpelier is not everyone's idea of perfection - if you are wanting 'all mod cons' and hot and cold running service, then go to the Four Seasons - or avoid the West Indies altogether. But if you are looking for an interesting, charming, intimate, friendly and beautiful version of heaven on earth, you will do not better than Montpelier. I have been coming here for over thirty years and hope very much to be able to continue to do so for just as long in the future.…
The good reviews on this site must be from friends of the owners-- who seem to be the main cliente at this place. I have traveled to 33 countries and have never had such a terrible "luxury" experience. In order to provide a fair review, the hotel's property and main areas are absolutely beautiful. So too is the private beach. Everything we had hoped for, and yet not enough to make up for the miserable experience. When we arrived and saw our room I was completely baffled. The room was disgusting, especially the bathrooms which reminded me of the shared bathrooms in hostels throughout Europe. It looked nothing like the pictures online. The air conditioning did not work, the phone did not work, the windows do not close completely, the lamp shades were dirty and broken, and the bed was miserably uncomfortable and felt like a mattress again worthy of a $20 a night hostel-- not a $725 a night hotel. We complained but the manager is not available at night. They moved us to another room with 2 beds, a great way to start our anniversary. This room was also dirty-- the glasses in the bathroom had toothpaste and mouth imprints still on them-- the beds uncomfortable, and in desperate need of remodeling. The next morning when the manager arrived we were told we would be refunded our first night-- which we were not-- we were then moved to a 3rd room which was better but still outdated and dirty. The private beach is a 20-30 minute ride each way, and when we arrived we quickly noticed there were not enough chairs for all guests, and the "cabanas" were garden sheds. The private bathroom at the beach also had no soap-- only an old bottle of shampoo for handwashing. Even more problematic was the private bar-- there was no proper refrigeration, only a cooler the staff was using. Also the staff could not produce a menu with drink prices-- this became a common theme quickly-- and the 2 pina coladas I had were $18 each USD. Speaking of menus, whenever we asked to see one with prices, the staff became noticeably uncomfortable. The 3 course meals for $78 USD each night were allegedly able to be ordered a la carte, but again those prices were not available on a menu. Additionally, the food is average, but will be presented to you as if it were deserving of such prices. We refused to drink alcohol with dinner as they to force you into a cocktail ahead of dining-- the owner "Muffin" will seat you in the bar herself and tell you that at this property you "must" have a cocktail and "relax" before dining, but again the staff won't give you pricing. Another one of the reasons we chose this property was the spice mill dining experience, I emailed ahead of time to make a reservation for our anniversary-- and of course we were told they made a mistake and it was no longer available-- another let down. Our final straw which made us leave early-- and don't worry they kept our $2,500 USD deposit-- was when I got food poisoning. The staff were unhelpful-- we asked for a ginger ale and were met with blank faces. After throwing up all night, my husband and I decided we had to leave to have any hope of enjoying our time on the island. Finally, the staff at this hotel were pleasant enough and polite, but there was a very weird vibe that reminded us of the movie, "Get Out." They were the only locals we interacted with on St. Kitts & Nevis who seemed unhappy-- which I believe says more about the management than them. Needless to say, avoid at all costs. …
