For our 25th Wedding anniversary, we wanted a spa get away! Prior to our arrival we had worked with the RItz Carlton concierge to schedule certain things like the Oasis Cabana, spa treatments, and dinner reservations at the resort. Everything was as it was supposed to be upon arrival and the room we booked is the room we got - which was an ocean view room. They even placed us on the 8th floor (top floor). Because they knew it was a special occasion, we were given a long stemmed red rose at check in and shortly after arriving in our room, we were presented with a small anniversary cake, card, and Ritz Carlton bag. They certainly made us feel special! The spa is wonderful! We had booked couples treatments; massages, pedicures, and facials. After your treatment you can have fruit infused water and a small snack while relaxing on their couches. The snack choices included cookies, dried fruits, nuts, etc. You could also get hot tea - which we did after our deep tissue massages. Inside the changing rooms there was a sauna, a whirlpool bath, and a steam room. There are lockers for your things and the staff in the lobby were not pushy about you purchasing items from your treatments. Not specific to the Ritz, but certainly true of it, everyone was genuinely nice and extremely helpful. They want to engage with you - if you were willing. The entire island is truly a melting pot - we met people from all over - the Philippines, Belgium, the Netherlands, among others. At the Ritz, everyone has their country's flag on their name tag, but they're pretty small and we honestly wouldn't have known most of the flags - so we would often ask them where they were from and what brought them to Grand Cayman. There is a posting somewhere on Trip Advisor that discusses the difference in the Cabana's - which is how we chose the Oasis Cabana's. They are on the sand at the back of the beach, near a water station, and though there is a path behind them, it's rarely traveled. The other cabana's were closer to heavily traveled paths. Each group of cabanas was about 3-5 together - so if someone has the cabana next to you - maybe the path is the least of your concerns. The food....wow! The food was amazing everywhere, but on the property we felt that the portions were large. We were at a point very quickly where we ate one meal a day. Off site the portions are "normal." We did not have a bad meal our entire stay - everything we ate was delicious! Taikun at the Ritz was the best sushi we have ever had - and hands down the best edamame on the planet! They also prepare the wasabi into a paste (for lack of a better word) at your table. We ordered the Samurai and walked away with 5 pieces left on the plate - and very full! It was easily enough for 3 but we would order it again! Andiamo (the Ritz) - the food was good and the Cayman Cloud drink was good - but definitely need to stir the coconut milk froth into the drink - otherwise you're basically drinking straight rum. St. June (Ritz) - if you like pina coladas - theirs are the BEST! We had dinner here one night - again, larger food portions, but we were seated along the beach and it was lovely. This is, however, the only place we got bit by mosquitos. Not sure why that was, but would recommend wearing bug spray. Silver Palm at the Ritz - we grabbed drinks here. Nice place! Wish we had been there to do afternoon tea, but they only do it over the weekend and we didn't think to schedule it. Some things to note: 1. On the resort they include a 20% service charge to every bill. You can leave additional if you feel so led. 2. The prices on the menus are in CI, but they are charged in USD. The only time we were ever asked about how we wanted to pay or warned that even if paying in USD (cash as opposed to card) we would receive change in CI was at a French patisserie and Starbucks (yes, we went to SB because I wanted the Cayman Island coffee mug). 3. You can charge everything to your room - meals, gifts/items from the cupboard store, drinks on the beach, spa services, etc. This made things easier in a lot of ways for everything we did on the resort. …
