Stay at the Sunset House if you want to feel right at home and in the Cayman Islands. We went out to the West Bay and limited out in Conch & Yellow Tail Snapper for the day and brought it back, cleaned and the Chef made us the best dinner we have ever had. The Staff could not be more accommodating, they love their guests and their resort, total pride in everything they do. Honestly it is like coming home to the Cayman's. I give a REAL 5 Star. Thank you Sunset House for the best dinner ever.

Great diving, coupled with very knowledgeable dive guides that will take you where you want to go. We have dove all over the Caribbean and this is one of those places that we view as one of the best. If your not a Diver and your more into the the resort ,"Entertain me" experiance Thise place is not for you.

I have never been to such a well run, clean and welcoming resort and I am a solo female traveler. Friendly service at front desk. Annie is great and put up with all of my request for transportation. They provide you with shuttles to many features at Grand Cayman Sunset house is really for people who want to learn to dive or want a great diving experience. They sent out three boats in the morning with divers and spend all morning various sites. I don’t dive. I like to swim long-distance and snorkel. I ran into some bad weather here and there although it doesn’t last long and it can be a problem with snorkeling. The experience out of the long reef is quite interesting and the snorkeling very good there. They have a sparkling pool and a very nice saltwater enclosure which is huge! So it’s great for kids who want to dive in very deep water, 7-8 feet deep. The pool is great for little kids but there’s no really shallow areas for the little ones to snorkel in. If you leave Sunset house and go to the reef they can snorkel, play with stingrays, and go to starfish beach. They have a over the top excellent Indian restaurant right there which provides wonderful food. I tried everything on the menu for five days. The service is beyond great! The girls at the bar made sure I got plenty of rum in my rum and Coke once a day.! I can’t say enough good things about it I would recommend it to anyone especially if they want to dive. Its not amazing snorkeling but good enough to have fun. Famous 7 mile beach is beautiful with absolutely the clearest water you’ll ever see, but the hotels are very close to the beach and honestly it’s just over -run with people especially when the cruise ships come into Georgetown. i’m glad I went, I’m not gonna go again but that’s only because I want to go to each island in the Caribbean and I’ve only done three so far. Any suggestions for a great snorkeling island and a laid-back lovely clean resort?

This year my husband and I spent 2 weeks at Sunset House - the last week in April and the last week of October. The overall weather was better in April, but we had great diving for both trips. If you normally stay at the Ritz, then this property might not meet your standards, but I actually loved it. It is definitely set up for divers!! When we arrived, the check-in crew quickly took care of the taxi from the airport and called for someone to help with our bags. We stayed in a king, ocean view room the first trip which was upstairs and all the way at the edge of the property. The view was great, bed comfortable, air worked well, and the floors are tiled - which is great for all of the wet clothing that you have when diving. My only complaint - in that room, the wifi was very spotty, so downloading pictures, etc. was difficult in the room. (And boy was I tired of climbing the stairs by the end of a full week of diving!) Last week we had a king apartment on the ground floor - and it was perfect. Wifi was good, amenities the same with addition of kitchen/eating areas which gave us more room. The kitchen had full size refrigerator, small stove/oven, sink, dishes, etc. We did not take advantage of preparing our own meals - but we certainly could have. The bathrooms are adequate - nothing fancy - but the showers were great and they provide shampoo/conditioner/shower gel which is nice not to have to bring. My only suggestion for the rooms..........if you are diving every day, multiple dives, then there is no where really to hang your wet clothing. The shower rod works - after you are out of the shower, except the water drips on the floor, which creates another mess. The porch/balcony areas are not large and they are shaded, which doesn't help much when the air is humid. (They are great for relaxing when it is 98 degrees!!) I'm not sure what they can do to help that aspect.........a rolling rack for the room?? Surely someone has an idea! We ate breakfast every morning onsite and I found the selection to my liking, even though there is not a lot of variety. The coffee was hot, the servers were so nice, and if they were ready to open earlier than 7am they did. For those getting on the 8am dive boat, it was wonderful! Lunch was eaten at My Bar every day and the menu and service was great. I didn't try the Indian menu, but it seemed to be extensive and many folks have commented that the food is good. Most days we tried to at least put on dry clothes, but I did eat one day in a wet rash guard and shorts. Every day there was a special and then the same menu for lunch and dinner - at either restaurant. For our last night in Oct., we arrived at My Bar with all the tables occupied, so we walked over to the other restaurant, which has an outdoor seating area. It was not set up.........and we asked inside the restaurant if we could eat outside. The manager was so nice.....they obviously were not set up there.....but quickly agreed to set our table ocean-side, with lights and music, and a great surf and turf meal! If the wait-staff grumbled, we didn't hear it - and we appreciated the extra effort provided. Frances was our server most days for lunch and sometimes for dinner! She is awesome - always greeted with a smile and quick to grab something you need. Everyone is nice and they all try hard to meet your expectations. Now...........to the best part.........the diving! For our trip in April, it was our first time diving without taking classes. We had completed our AOW course in August, and thought maybe this place might be good to start.......and Sunset House Divers did not disappoint. The afternoon we arrived, we checked into the dive shop, set up any needs for the week, and received our locker for the week. They ran 2 boats every morning in April and we just checked the list at the dive shop each morning for which boat to be on. Cat and the Dive staff were available every day to carry your gear the short walk to the dock. We took our own gear, so only had to get weights/tanks for dives, but you could rent if you chose not to bring. The roll was checked, gear loaded, divers loaded, and we stayed seated until the boat was away from the dock and the staff had given the safety briefing. We were then allowed to set up our equipment, and await our location. Once we arrived at our destination, the crew briefed us on the dive site (love the towel art!!) and dive parameters. The deep dives were guided for the first 30 min, then you could venture with your buddy; for the 2nd shallower dive, the guided portion was optional. The first day some weather had moved in, so we were shuttled to the south side of the island and went to Spot Beach and Cayman Crossing. The rest of the week we boarded the boats at the Sunset dock with Big Tunnel and Ora Verde being my favorite sites! For boat crews we had Reed (Reid?), Tibor (who also rescued us one afternoon with a bad tank after the dive shop had closed), Marcel, Tommy, V, Alex, Jasmine, and Lee. All were professional, courteous, fun, and were willing to offer suggestions for personal improvement, if asked. We had lots of fun and met several divers - many with elaborate camera set ups! For this last trip, we wanted to take some specialty courses to finish the requirements for master scuba diver and having the house reef right there along with the professional staff fit our requirements. Lee was very helpful setting up the instructors for our trip and was even able to add a class at the last minute when I asked to add an extra one. We completed the remaining dives for 4 specialties along with knowledge reviews and still managed to have a great time on our trip! Many thanks to Pablo, Mel, Tyler, and Lee for taking great care of us during training........and also to Shan, Alex, Jack, and V (Veronica) for guiding and hauling my gear all week. (Did everyone eat their wheaties????) Cat (Kat??) was on holiday when we arrived, but she returned halfway through our trip - to a grateful crew who had obviously missed her. When you check in to the dive shop, she is usually one of the smiling faces welcoming you and asking how she can help. My favorite sites on this trip were Devil's Grotto, Ora Verde, and Orange Canyon. One of my favorite things about the whole set up is their effort made towards being environmentally friendly and sparing the beautiful reefs. Our arrival gift in April was a reusable, collapsible, water bottle - which we used all week for both trips. In October we received metal straws and cleaning brushes. The water coolers that are full of cold water day and night at the dive shop, My Bar, and on the boats were great (paper cups available for most). The pool area is used for dive classes some days and is relatively small, but there are lounge chairs/cushions and umbrellas/tables as well. The pool was clean and cold. The is a "hot tub", but it has cold water and only a few jets. I did get in both this trip, but just to cool off on the warmest day. The cushions are in need of updating, but the view is great! We did have an error on our bill, which was rectified immediately, and I had an email before we boarded our plane with the remaining charges that we were expecting. Everyone here is so nice......from the check in desk, the cleaning crew, the servers, maintenance (safe battery needed to be replaced), reservations, Cathy Church photography on site (they worked with me to print a specific size of a picture on canvas and get it to me), to the dive staff who went out of their way to make sure we had a wonderful time! Kudos!
