We were pleasantly happy to learn Peter Island Resort had Mooring balls to reserve. We stayed on a new ball in Deadman’s Beach area. Great location. You can boo a ball using the Dockwa app.

Drove our dinghy around the point that the Harbor in Sprat Bay for dinner at Drunken Pelican. Good was served as small plates. I had the goat curry, my wife had the shrimp. They were good! Not a good beer offering: Caribe, Heineken, Coors Light…no IPAs or local beers.

It was a very dark moonless night as we dinghy’d to our boat after dinner. Very scary! I’d suggest they add a light at the end of the point for safety!

In general, I’d go there again!

We almost missed the Drunken Pelican - what a GREAT find! Fantastic food and amazing drinks by the pool or under the cabana ocean side. Junie, Wayne, and Chevron took such great care of our boat and group - highly recommend! Live music and festivities for the whole family.

Like another reviewer, I was a little nervous because of some of the negative reviews posted. Also like that other reviewer, I needn't have worried. We thought Peter Island Resort was fantastic! Everyone
is entitled to their opinion, but I can't imagine anyone having a truly negative experience at PIR.

But first, a few things for the record:

1. We are not in any way associated with Amway, PIR, or a travel agency.
2. We paid for this trip with our own hard-earned money (we really want to find out about these organizations who "comp" honeymooners or other
vacationers...we'd surely like to get in on THAT deal!).
3. We don't claim to know the "truth" about PIR. We just want to share our experience and observations.
4. We won't go into detail about what experienced travelers we are since (for some strange reason) that seems to make some readers discount a review, but we've had good experiences and bad, so hope we know the difference.

Here are our impressions and our experience with some of the things others have commented on:

Accommodations: We opted for a beach front suite. It was exactly like the pictures on the web - just gorgeous - king sized bed, large sitting area,
twin tub, twin sinks, beautiful blend of tile, wood, stone, and Caribbean colors throughout. Oh, did we mention the fantastic view!!!

I have allergies and asthma, and am highly allergic to mold, mildew, and smoke. As much as I love the Caribbean, all of these things are a real challenge to even the best resorts (especially given the amount of rain in the past 2 years!). NO problem at PIR!!! I had called in advance and explained my allergies. The room was absolutely pristine. I'm also allergic to some cleaning products and the housekeeping staff was very careful to not use them during my stay.

Service: It was impeccable everywhere we went...check-in/out, dining, front desk, housekeeping, grounds staff, ferry. Everyone was super friendly and accommodating.

Food: It was outstanding. I also have food allergies, and the staff were well aware of it and took great care of me. There was one hiccup at dinner, but it was quickly and cheerfully remedied. (Like anyone else with food allergies, I know that I am ultimately responsible for what goes in my mouth, and it requires constant vigilance, so this one little mistake didn't upset me at all.)

Activities: We were there just for R&R, so didn't do much, but there is plenty to do if one is so inclined. We watched 2 instructors patiently
teaching 3 women how to windsurf. Under their expert tutelage, the ladies went from not knowing how at all to quite respectable skill in one afternoon. One lady in particular became quite proficient. We were impressed!

Guests: Now a resort isn't responsible for the behavior of its guests (unless they are disruptive) but, since others have commented about this, we wanted to share our impressions. There was a wide range in ages, from young honeymooners, to another couple who, like us, were celebrating their 30th anniversary, to a few couples in their 60s. Everyone was extremely friendly, from smiling and saying hello in passing, to striking up conversations.

Yachters: We were there in the off season, and only saw 3 sailboats at PIR the whole time. If they came on the beach, we weren't aware of it. Seeing them anchored in the bay added to the scenery and ambiance.

Bugs: We didn't see any at all. I don't doubt that roaches exist but, it IS the tropics. We live in the south and had to laugh - the night before the trip, we had to kill a gigunda roach in our own home. When
you live south of the Mason-Dixon line, roaches are a fact of life (and we keep a very clean house!)

Beds and linens: We don't claim to be linen connoisseurs (in fact it would never occur to me to comment on linens in a review, but others have, so...)
but the linens were fine, and we enjoyed the complimentary use bathrobes. The bed was definitely not too hard. If anything, I would have preferred
it to be a little firmer, but that's just personal preference. It was fine.

Hotel ownership: This is also something we wouldn't normally mention in a review. If it weren't for the postings here, and the very brief mention of it by the guide on our island tour, we wouldn't have even
known it was owned by Amway. Who cares? All resorts are owned by someone, and they all make money at it. It's called business, and the resorts wouldn't exist if it didn't work that way.

So, as others have said...this isn't the place for wild nightlife (but even in the off season, they had entertainment at dinner) but, if you want a wonderfully relaxing get-away-from-it-all vacation, in beautiful lush surroundings, with great service and food, we heartily recommend PIR!

We came here with our boat and booked a dock space for the evening. The grounds are beautiful, and the pool and beach access is amazing. However there are some kinks that need to be ironed out.

The service is very slow. I have been living in the islands for 5 years and I know 'island time' but it took 1+ hours to get fries. The portions are small for the price and it all comes with a non negotiable 23% service charge. 1 bottle of beer that we collect at the bar? 23% service. A cocktail ends up being $26.

There's other little things too: the bar isn't open until 11:30, the pickleball courts have 2 courts but only 6 paddles, the drying machines in the laundry room didn't work, and even though we spent $280 for dock space and $250 for a massage, my friend didn't get access to the gym. We came in at noon for lunch and we were told everyone was on break and felt guilty pulling people off to order lunch and drinks.

It definitely has potential but for the price, it should be 5 star.

We were on Peter Island in April of this year, unfortunately. The only way someone could write a good review of this place is if they are part of the Amway Family or are not well traveled. Yes, Amway guests are treated better than regular guests. So it is a problem,YES it is. Also boaters ARE allowed to use ALL the beaches, the small resort pool, use pool towels, and even eat off the midday snack buffet table. FOR FREE!!! We were paying 700.00 a night for what they were getting for free. Their website and tollfree reservation people will tell you that kids under 8 are strongly discouraged. Wrong!! Why were there at least a dozen children under 4 while we were there? Toddlers screaming at dinner every night. Once a toddler was in the small resort pool with a diaper on. Nothing was done!! Why, the parents were Amway Family. The website also says that Peter Island does not have cars or streets. WRONG!!! In fact on more than one occasion we had to jump out of the way of speeding vans and trucks. There is no hot tub for resort guests to use either. You can use the hot tub by the new spa if you pay $200.00 for a spa treatment!!! It is unacceptable for a luxury resort to impose such rules to customers paying so much for so little. The guests that stay here are the rudest and the most unfriendly group of people that we have ever been around. We did not realize how many 20 something trust fund babies there are in the world until we went to PI. While on vacation why can't these people at least speak when spoken to? Go back to being rude when you get back home. PI also says on their website that there is never a guest who wants to leave. Well they can remove that now can't they. Why do they not have TVs in the rooms but yet the tiny workout facility has a satellite TV by the treadmills? Also we were not at all impressed by the body guards that the owner had for him and his Family while at dinner. The staff are not very happy. We were told that it was due to the way they are treated by upper management. You would also think that because you are paying $700.00 a night for a bedroom that is under 350 square feet that the food would have been better. NO LOBSTER!!! What is that? That's right. Not 1 menu or buffett had lobster on it. Once again totally unacceptable for a supposed luxury resort. And yes all of the bathroom amenities were Amway. So by staying at PI you are supporting a MLM or a pyramid type business. We would only go back to PI if they changed the way they cater to the boating crowd and the Amway Family higher ups and their rude children. Do yourself a favor and spend your hard earned money on Virgin Gorda or St. John if you must visit the BVI. Just do not give any support to PI Resort!!

Having waited more than a week now for a response from customer relations in Atlanta, it is time to reveal Peter Island for what it really is, a haven for boaters and their numerous children, Amway Family and their kids too. We are in our early 40's and are fairly seasoned travelers. Having been to resorts and or villas at the following, 3 in Hawaii, 4 in Mexico, 2 in Virgin Gorda, 2 in Nevis, 3 in Puerto Rico, 2 in St.Barts, 2 in St. Lucia, 2 in Antigua, 1 in the Dominican Republic, and 3 in the Bahamas. When reading trip reports we try NOT to give stock to those submitted by weddings, honeymooners or compted travelers. They tend to be slanted and are usually paid for by someone else. We don't feel the traveler can be real objective if this is the case. If you were to add the good reviews to the real bad reviews it would add up to our experience on Peter Island. Lets first talk about the good. The resort has awsome potential. The food was pretty good. The service was above average. Peter Island has two nice beaches. The resort itself is well kept up and pretty clean. Now it is time to kick Peter Island around a little, OK, ALOT. We stayed in an ocean view room. It should be called a boat or dock view room. Our room was small for the price they charge. House keeping is below average at best. One day we did not get house keeping til after 6 pm. I killed a cockroach on the 2nd day of our stay in our bathroom. It was finally removed on the last day of our stay, by about 1,000 ants. Nice huh! As other reviews have stated there is still a strong Amway presence. This can be tolerated, but here are a few things that we feel cannot. Number one the FACT that boaters are allowed to come onto the resort with their loud and misbehaved kids and do whatever they want. Some of the things the resort turns its back to are: boaters kids using the pool, using resort towels, eating off the snack bar for free, and using resort chairs. Here we are paying over $700.00 a day and watching boaters getting these same amenities for FREE! Not to mention their kids, who were in age from about 6 monthes to 8-10 years old, make more noise than one can imagine in the restaurants. And why have a dress code for Tradewinds restaurant, when one gets dressed up just to listen to whining kids. What is that, when Peter Island on their website states that kids under 12 are strongly discouraged from staying at the resort. The operators at the 800 reservations office need to stop lying to customers when they tell them PI is a couples destination resort. How can this be when so many boating families are allowed onto the island. We were also curious as to why there are no TVs in the rooms. I understand that one does not go to a destination like PI to watch TV. But why then have satelite TV in the ultra small workout facility? HELLO!! We were there for our 20th anniversary and did let the management know this prior to our arrival. Not one time was this ever recognized. Not too much of a problem until we witnessed how PI slobbers all over Amway Family and weddingmooners. We did get a nice massage at the new spa facility, but the rules regarding the spa are ridiculous at best. The only resort guests that can use the new pool or hot tub at the spa are those getting a spa treatment on that day, only. How stupid is that when there is no hot tub on the rest of the resort or near the pool. It is a shame that management will not go ADULTS ONLY,ULTRA ALL-INCLUSIVE during Jan, Feb, and March like some other private island retreats. If Peter Island had to raise their prices even 50% after doing this we would return. It is painfully obvious that the rest of the clients that frequent PI can afford a price increase. Until they get a control of kids and boaters and include drinks in the room price we will not stay at PI again, but would visit from a nearby island. We went onto the Four Seasons on Nevis from PI. There is no comparison. PI management should visit the Four Seasons to see first hand how a classy resort is run. The Four Seasons is about 10 times the size of PI Resort and had less kids while we were there. Please contact us with any questions, Scott and Tammy

At 65 years old, this resort is my kind of place. During my trip a few weeks back, I brought my two 22 year old assistants down to help out with logistics, etc., and they seemed to have a great time at the beautiful topless beach, and at the vinatge 1970s disco. Our bed was a little tight for three, but we managed...

Had a wonderful week here and the staff is lovely. The beach sand is soft and white the water is clear and blue. Our flight was into St. Thomas and the cab took us to the dock and to our surprise the boat was a 54' cabin cruiser that made for a very nice ride over to the island with one short stop at customs (this was arranged by Peter Island $125 per person round trip). After arriving we had a short tour and then to our room (125 lower room by the dock) which was very nice and would book again. The bed is to died for, my husband and i had the best sleep ever for the whole week. One small thing about the bathroom the tub could have the oval shower curtain maybe to make the shower area a little larger. Then to the beach to rest after the long plane and boat ride. The beach had a great view and nice chairs, the staff come up and down to see if anything is needed. Dinner was very good as well is breakfast and lunch. I booked a day at the spa and ONI is wonderful, she put me to sleep twice and Wendy is very sweet. The next day my husband and I had a trip over and I mean over to Honeymoon beach. This is nice but no staff asking what I need and then it rained so when the van came to pick us up it could not get back over the rough mountain road so a boat had to come pick us up (thank you very much Azim). We also made a trip over to White Bay Beach. The beach was not as pretty as Deadman beach, the sand was rocky and much more brown and the chairs and huts are in some need of repair. I liked seeing the other beach and it was the best beach for snorkeling. For the staff you will love Gene she is somewhat a star at Peter Island and Thelma, Sheila, Marsha, Marsha,Jane, Azim, Aldridge, the captain, Derek, Juliana (Juliana can remember any name but Thelma says she cant remember anything else LOL) and all the others are great. They truly want you to be happy and there to help you have a great time. These people get it, what service and kindest but what i felt from these people was they are happy to have you there. On the last day when leaving a storm was moving into the islands so we were unable to leave by boat and the staff help us get a plane from Tortola to St Thomas to be able to make our plane home. This was no small task at all, Thank you for all your help. Also after coming home Wilbur the general manager called after hearing our AC leaked water on our clothes, to make sure we were able to get home and see if we had a great vacation. I told him it was like a dream come true ( I know cheesey) but the minute we stepped on the island I was looking for a short guy saying the plane the plane. Well fantasy Island meet real life. In short if you want to go someplace that makes you feel pampered and eat some great food then you have found the right place.

We had a great time and would do it again but I would not book ever again with Jetsetter. Please read as followers:

This is not about Peter Island only about Jetsetter.

I am very unhappy with your service, your lack of concern and misleading ads. I was looking at the site one day when a flash sale came up to Peter Island stating all inclusive at $220 per night. so I called customer service to ask is this right and she states "Yes". I then asked for two people and again "Yes" and I asked all inclusive and again "Yes". So that next day I called Peter Island do you do business with Jetsetter and she said yes. So I called Jetsetter back is there anything I need to do other than go online to book this all inclusive deal for this price and she response was no just check your dates and book it. So that was in June and now in October we are at Peter island it is lovely but after our first meal and the ticket was presented all the food charges was on it. Well that is funny if this is all inclusive my husband remarked. And then the next morning the same thing . So starting to have a bad feeling I emailed jet setter what had happened and a day later someone responded sorry I did not choose the all inclusive rate I took the room only rate. I emailed back that in the flash sale it did not state room only it stated all inclusive and when I called no one stated then was a room only rate and I asked if all inclusive and was informed yes. That was 4 days ago and I am still waiting, When someone takes time to send an email one should receive a response but I would expect no less after the service I have received from your company. The one thing I have learned from my experience is always get it in writing from you because either your customer service salespeople are unknowable or misleading in their response.

I felt a little concern was warranted but your none response answered loud and clear. On my many travel sites I will write of my experience so others become aware of your service.

Truly Unhappy,

Terry Douglass

First of all, I am a planner. I planned this trip for nearly a year and all of my expectations were exceeded! We had a fabulous time. The staff are very personable and they really do make it a point to know your name. Three people that we spoke to at least once a day were Benji (Tours and transportation around the island) - he's awesome, Jean (Dining) - super sweet and as perky as a cheerleader, and Sandra (General manager) who was very helpful and accomodating.

We were staying during the Holiday season, which was extremely pricey, but well worth it. We really didn't have much of a choice since our Anniversary was 12/30. We either had to pay the Holiday prices, or go when it wasn't our anniversary. I was afraid I'd be terribly disappointed for the price @$1250 per night for the Oceanview rooms, after taxes and service charges). But I really thought it was worth it. We stayed in the Oceanview Rooms, as the Beachfront rooms (@ $1600/night including tax and service) were booked a year in advance. We had the second set of oceanview rooms from the point, which was excellent for lots of reasons. You have an undisturbed ocean view (from balcony/patio) and a marina view (from the back door/deck) the closer you are to the point. Now the closer you get to the lobby area, you will have more trees/ the library/pool, etc. in your way, but you can still see the ocean. I actually think the Oceanview rooms are better in lots of ways than the beachfront rooms. That is, if you can get past the point that the bathroom doesn't have a jacuzzi, like the beachfront rooms.

The bathrooms are completely fine. No, the bath is not luxurious. But there was plenty of room for toiletries and there are double sinks. It was all perfectly clean and I never thought twice about it.

From reading literally all of these reviews, I felt that we were going to be staying in some slum in the Oceanview rooms. Not at all the case. 1) They've got gorgeous views (try to book closest to the point which would be rooms 129-130 (lower level) and 131-132 Upper level for the last "house", or as you get to lower room numbers you get closer to the lobby/pool/restaurant area. 2) They are right next to the lobby/pool/restaurant/boutique/marina (for snorkeling/scuba gear). My father, or someone else who needs limited walking, would have preferred room 101, the lower level closest to the lobby/restaurant/pool/boutique, because there would be very little walking needed.

And you really do have to refrain from taking the golfcarts all the time which run constantly just so you can get some exercise from all the awesome food. The walk from the Oceanview rooms to Dean Man's beach is no more than 5 minutes, up a slight hill, but nothing terrible. And it's a beautiful walk with gorgeous plants and awesome views of the marina. Everything except the beach itself is near the oceanview rooms. The beachfront rooms even have a little bit of a walk (maybe 150 yards) to Deadman's Grill. That only serves lunch and dinner and while the food is awesome there (excellent Ceasar Salads with grilled shrimp, ribs, as well as portabello mushroom pizzas). It's still not as nice as Tradwinds restaurant (Superb lambchops, fillet mignon, fresh fish, etc.) with awesome views and right next to the Oceanview rooms. Every dinner was at least $200 (remember that it's included in the price of the room). So our thought was, let's enjoy the upscale restaurant every night rather than getting a pizza, since we've already pre-paid. We saved the pizza and salads for lunch. Yum!

Men do have to wear a collared shirt and closed-toe shoes in Tradewinds. But I don't think I ever saw anyone wearing a sports jacket, except on New Year's Eve. Most of the time men were wearing collared golf shirts with slacks. I wore sundresses and nice resort wear to dinner.

The spa is truly not to be missed. We had a couple's hot stone massage in the couple's suite and it was fantastic. They even have a swedish massage shower in the room which has like literally 30 jets and I don't even know how many shower heads. We stayed at the spa for about 5 hours. We had our massages, had lunch there, enjoyed the pool (sans children - not allowed at the spa at all), sunned, used the ocean-front jacuzzi, strolled through the coconut grove garden and basically just melted away in the serenity of it all.

The resort was at 100% capacity the whole time we were there and we never had a problem finding beach chairs, or pool chairs. Now I will caution those of you who are looking to go to the resort and not find children....don't go during the Christmas/New Year's Holiday, or I'm told at Easter or Thanksgiving either. These are definitely family times. Lots of small children (between the ages of 2 and 10). I was sort of expecting this given the Holidays, but as we were looking to take a break from our 3-1/2 year old and 6 month old, I can assure you we didn't have to look far to at least find a toddler to fondly remind of our own children. However, I never saw small children at dinner. I think the resort encourages those guests with children to either eat at Deadman's (which would have the best menu for children anyways), or at the beginning of the evening. We generally dined between 7 and 9 PM each evening.

Oh, there was generally live music every evening, either a vocalist or steel drums. We really didn't lack for any evening entertainment. But then after all the fun we had during the days, we were generally in bed by 11:00, midnight at the latest. Never missed the TV and we were able to catch up on a lot of reading.

We snorkeled at White Bay, did the island tour, sunned on Deadman's Beach and swam in the blue/green crystal clear water. Basically, I think we did about everything except the Sunset Loop tour. We did get to see some awesome sunsets, but just never got around to doing it...wish we had...another reason to go back.

We arrived after dark to EIS, so we had to take the taxi and then were taken on the large Peter Island ferry and literally taken right into Tradwinds to eat dinner. We didn't ever touch our bags from the time we met the Peter Island rep at the airport, until the time we were in our room after dinner at the resort.

So would we go back? Yes. We're already thinking about a return trip this summer (their low season). Although I will say that the weather could not have been any better (light winds, and highs around 82-84 every day). When we landed back on the mainland, it was 42 degrees. That truly has to be the best time to go to the islands, when it's cold at home and perfect weather in the BVIs.

We honeymooned in Hawaii and have stayed at many luxury resorts in our ten years of marriage and Peter Island truly is a special place not to be missed.

We stayed at Peter Island Resort this past April and have since become familiar with "Trip Advisor" reviews.
While the grounds and views are indeed beautiful, we had a problem with roaches in two separate rooms. Our first night, the manager had welcomed us into a room with two single beds pushed together. She said a different bed would be delivered the next day. (At their rates, this should not have happened.) The two single beds were so uncomfortable, we could not sleep and decided to sit up for a while. As soon as the lights went on, a roach shot up onto the head board of the bed. I could not sleep and encountered another couple of roaches. This was around 11:00 p.m. or so, and I could not reach one single employee or manager by phone. The whole place was shut down. What if it had been a true emergency?
Management's response the next day was disappointing. It ran the gamut from "well, the prior occupants did not have a problem" to "this is an island - what do you expect?"
We were moved to another room, and subsequently encountered roaches coming into the room through the bottom of the door. At this time, management did not want to do anything and said that the employees had probably locked up the spray and gone home for the night.
We travel frequently, and this is the first time ever we encountered roaches. To some, roaches are not a big deal. To me, roaches are a deal breaker. At this point, you have to worry about not bringing them home in your luggage, etc.
I also feel that management's response to the situation was totally inadequate, as in "what's the big deal." I chuckled when, upon leaving the island, the manager said "come back soon." I wanted to say "not in this lifetime."
