I was stranded in Puerto Rico after major earthquakes and made it off the island to Tortola. A sweet woman recommended this hotel and helped me book it since they weren’t on some of the search sites I use to book.
I was exhausted after delays and canceled flights at the airport and switched from St. Thomas to Tortola to get out of the disaster area.
I was warmly greeted and getting sick from a cruise ship trip and being worn down from the events.
I booked a room at $124.00 a night and a resort fee and the room was clean and comfortable. I didn’t have an ocean view room but that was ok, I needed rest and to find a flight home.
I went down to the bar for a drink and I met the wonderful “Sonny” what a gem. His mother owned the place and now he’s there keeping watch over the place.
He chatted with me and made me feel happy and welcome and then asked if I’d eaten. Thank goodness he asked as I hadn’t eaten since breakfast. I was so tired and run down. They offered food at the bar which was perfect. They had homemade chicken soup available. How much was this sick chick? I also ordered a spinach salad. Each leaf was placed perfectly on the plate in a beautiful design. What a healthy treat.
I felt so so cozy and comfortable there that I booked another night.
They book through emails and phone calls so send them an email and they respond quickly or give them a call.
There wasn’t a lot of people staying there and I hope that they get a good system soon so that they can stay full and people can find this little gem.

We stayed here for three nights to be near the ferry and to do a day sail. The convenience was great, it was waking distance to ferry. There are some good restaurants and bars that are within walking distance as well. The cruise port is very close and there is a pier there with shopping and restaurants if you choose to check that out. I found the hotel to be exactly as I had expected from other reviews. I knew it was not going to be high end, and that was okay with us. We did not plan to spend a lot of time in the room. The bed was very comfortable, the rooms clean, tv did work. The hotel itself seemed dated, and we did not dine at the restaurant. There was a pool, but did not go in. Beautiful view of the water. The staff was friendly and we did have some issues with hot water and they immediately accommodated us by changing our room, which was a plus. Overall, if you are looking for a five star hotel this is not for you. But if you are looking for something that is located in road town, and is a typical no frills hotel with a comfy bed, then look no further. Keep in mind if you decide to explore the island and beaches without a car, taxi prices are typically $16 per person one way anywhere you go. This hotel is in road town and close to the ferry there, but is not close to the west end ferry, just and FYI.

Bare basics hotel. You cannot fault cleanliness or the happy staff at the bar. Jesse, Roy, Latavia we’re lovely, they really care. We were here for a week! Pool is functional but unless Roy is on the stage, no service! Suite was spacious but limited decor. Don’t plan on coffee, you have a machine but no coffee. Don’t drink tap water but they sell Costco 12oz bottles for $3! Bar prices are fair as is food but not a gastronomic honey hole. The WORST thing about this hotel was the Front Desk! Unfriendly, unhelpful, un knowledgeable, un welcoming, UN. everything a front desk should be! Awful from day one to day 8! Spend their time on their phones and preening themselves. I would give three stars it it wasn’t for the bar crew! Front Desk needs to go!

Having been caught in Tropical Storm Philippe on a sailboat, we found ourselves in need of a place to recuperate and get our travel plans back to the US reset. We had heard from friends that Maria's by the Sea was just the place we needed. Wow....the recommendations were dead on. We arrived soaked and tired and in need of comfortable rooms and some good food. The front desk team was professional, friendly and helpful beyond measure. When faced with a dilemma in getting our "wet" money from working in the lobby vending machine, the manager said..."no worries", and opened it up with her key and made sure we got what we needed. We were checked in quickly and found our rooms to be incredibly comfortable and well equipped with all we needed. Once we got rested and cleaned up, our group of 5 hearty travelers made our way downstairs to the waterfront bar and restaurant. The star of the show was Roy, our server, and now, friend. The service was stellar, the food magnificent in both presentation and flavor, and the overall experience helped wash away our discomfort from our storm experience. This gentleman is first class by any definition. We already had found the people in the British Virgin Islands to be incredibly friendly, helpful, kind and genuine. This final experience before we caught the ferry to St. Thomas and the plane ride home put a beautiful bow on this adventure. Thanks to you all!!

We stayed at Maria's the night before our sailboat charter and the night afterwards. There are many things about Maria's that warrant praise. The property is clean, modern and quiet and within walking distance of the St. Thomas to Roadtown Ferry. Seaside rooms offer a balcony with a beautiful view. Reception staff was very friendly and helpful, insuring a cab was waiting to take us to the ferry at 6: 45 am

We ate breakfast and dinner in the hotel's restaurant. There is a large covered area facing the ocean. I highly recommend the rack of lamb- six chops that were delicious.

The business center was a life saver, allowing us to print all required documents for re entering the U.S.

After 10 days on a sail trip we needed a nice clean room, centrally located to the ferry and great food nearby. Maria’s was a perfect fit. We obviously didn’t need a seaside view since we had been looking at water for past 10 days. Room was clean with a huge king bed, great shower. And unlike many of the pools we dipped in during our cruising , the pool was not hot tub temperature. They have a beautiful dinning room, both open air and enclosed, so we choose Maria’s for a long overdue breakfast and relax before catching our ferry back to St Thomas.I could see spending a few days here !

We had an ocean view room with a fantastic view . Room was larger than most American hotel rooms. Every detail was included in the room. When you first walk into the room air conditioning is already on we actually had to turn it down. Television already on with remote controls right there in front of the television. Room decor was fabulous. When we went downstairs for breakfast and dinner the food was out of sight. I learned the bread and all pastries are made on sight. This restaurant have all professional chefs and bakers. The quality of their food is simply elevated. One other patron described their hamburger plater which is also handcrafted that she felt like a kid in the candy store. After one week of eating at Maria's by the sea you do feel a sense of guilt for eating so well. My family and I highly recommend a visit to the BVI will not be complete without a stay at the hotel and dinning at Maria's by the sea and have anything on the menu. I especially enjoyed the rack of lamb and burgers.

First room had no hot water. We were told run the sink and tub long before taking shower still turned out luke at best. Second stay different room had hot water but no shower curtain was told take a bath?????? Shower curtain was delivered but had dinner reservations so had to shower before getting a curtain. Way over priced for this type of room. Safe was locked by last guest and no one was available to unlock in a reasonable amount of time not much use.

Great location. We took the ferry into Tortola from St Thomas and American Airlines lost my bag. This was a great place to wait out the one day wait for my bag.
Clean, fairly modern, walking distance from the terminal and to restaurants.
Price was pretty high at $240 but it was very clean and comfortable and for the convenience I wasn’t going to complain.
Breakfast is poor so we just blew it off and went to the French Cafe by the Moorings.
Walking distance to Pussers, and Dove. Short cab ride to the Moorings the next day.
Staff was very friendly.
TV was inoperable.
Coffee maker in the room.

Positive: They let’s us check in a little early.

Negative: Staff not very friendly.
No working internet or TV. When mentioned to them they say to unplug internet box in room and if that does not work, you’re out of luck.

Warning: The jerk chicken wrap in horribly hot and we like hot foods. Wife was unable to take a second bite. Yikes!!! Mentioned this to waitress and she said nothing back.

You just don’t get the feeling guests are welcome. We will not be coming back.

Half of Maria's by the Sea was destroyed by the hurricane. We were there in July and it appeared the hotel had a large, new addition (pre hurricane). The website is allowing reservations. I spent a few hours looking at post hurricane photos. The Willy Thorton in Bite was washed ashore. I believe the Village Cay had many of its boats in a pile by shore. The BVI took a big hit. A home in Cane Garden Bay was left with only its concrete walls and no roof.
