This is our 14th trip to Tortola and our 12th year staying at the Columbus Sunset Apartments on Cane Garden Bay! The aparments are located right across the street from one of most beautiful beaches in the world. Each apartment has a small living area and kitchen complete with a microwave, refrigerator, stove, and coffee maker. Most of the units are air-conditioned and include ceiling fans and ample ventilation. A maid comes every day except Sunday and leaves the apartment sparkling.

The hospitality, friendliness, clean apartments and proximity to the beach, the restaurants, and shops make this our ideal vacation location. Cane Garden Bay is peaceful and relaxing. We have already booked our trip for next April.

Cane Garden Bay is a great place to stay when you're on Tortola, because you can take a quick walk down the beach and have your choice among a variety of restaurants, bars, water sports rentals, etc. And if you're staying along Cane Garden Bay, I can't imagine a quieter, cleaner, and friendlier place than Sun Set.

We were in unit 3, a 1 bedroom on the second floor with a great view of the bay. There's a long, shared covered porch with individual tables for each unit. You walk through a sliding door into a living/dining/kitchen area, equipped with all of the basics and some things that aren't necessarily basic on the islands: a very nice, new refrigerator with separate freezer and a flat screen TV with cable (which we didn't really use except for weather). Behind the main area is a bedroom with a double and single bed and a small, functional bathroom.

It's true that the decor is not fancy, but a number of other things really helped to make our stay great. It's very clean, for one thing--everything was shiny, no odd smells, and the sheets were nice and fresh. The wifi works great from the porch, which is a big bonus for those of us who have to do a little work while spending time in paradise. And the store is a great thing to have next door, with a little bit of everything except for meat and produce.

But the best aspect was the peaceful and friendly atmosphere. Sky really helps make your vacation great with his calm, quiet competence. He rented us a car that took us all over Tortola's crazy roads, arranged a cab to get us on our early ferry right on time, and was in general a great representative of the many friendly people you'll meet on the island.

We were only there for four nights, but this would be a great place for a longer stay. When we return to Tortola we won't bother investigating other options, because this one was really great at an extremely affordable price.

Great place to stay for the price. Convenient location. Great hiking, snorkeling, dining, entertainment, relaxation. This was my fifth year to spend February in Cane Garden Bay at Columbus Sunset Vacation Apartments. We have made many friends over the years, and bring along friends and relatives as well.

Nice location close to the beach. It's up the other end of the beach from the bars so it's quiet, but if you want to get to the bars then it's only a short walk up the road or along the beach. The rooms are a bit dated in the decor (they must have like the 70s) but it's all in good condition and clean. Not the newest or most up-market place on the beach, but probably one of the best value for money.

If you want to stay in paradise without breaking the bank, this is the place for you. The accommodations are clean and comfortable if somewhat on the basic side. But who cares when you are right across the street from the best beach in the BVI? And I mean best in every way: great swimming and snorkeling as well as fun and funky beach bars, restaurants, and shops.

The only way that Sky could improve the experience (and it would be a quick and easy improvement) would be to provide sturdier chairs on the porches and to arrange a discount with the beach chair rentals for those of us who have extended stays. Since many of his long-time and most loyal guests are starting to age, it would be a gesture of kindness and respect as well as an overall improvement to his property.

We recently enjoyed an excellent five night stay at the Sun Set Apartments and highly recommend this as a reasonably-priced, clean and conveniently located home base for any visit to Tortola.

Our 1-bedroom apartment on the upper floor was perfect for our needs as a couple. The kitchen gave us the flexibility of preparing our own meals whenever we weren’t enjoying the delicious Happy Hour appetizer specials at one of the awesome bars just a short walk down the beach. Speaking of the beach, beautiful Cane Garden Bay beach is only steps away – across the road and down a short pathway.

Convenience at the Sun Set Apartments extends beyond its location, with a small onsite store/bar, and even reasonably-priced car rentals available to guests (which we took advantage of to explore the island).

But the real shining star of this establishment is the proprietor, Sky – a young man of few words, but always quick with a smile and ready to accommodate our every need and request.

Just as other reviewers here have said, we too will certainly stay with Sun Set Apartments on our next visit to Tortola.

Due to unforeseen circumstances my Girlfriend and I were unable to stay at Sunset Gardens. However, an email to cancel the reservation never made it to Sky, the Manager. Consequently the total charge went to my credit card. After realizing the charge I called Sky and informed him of the cyber mishap and the charge. He immediately reversed the charge and sent us a very warm note about the situation and hoped we would be able to stay at another time. This man redefines the words integrity, honesty and polite.
Thank you Sky
Dean

Sky helped us with reservations online. The place is very 1970s but was clean and has a great location close to the beach and within a short walk to Myetts and surrounding bars. They also rent SUVs for an affordable price. I believe it was around $60 a day as compared to renting near the ferry which was about $15 more. There is a full size bed and a twin bed in same room. I am not aware of a different layout available. the bathroom is a bit small with a sliding door shower but it serves its purpose and there is another mirror available in the bedroom. I would stay there again.

We spent two nights here after a bareboat charter, and it was perfect. Sky is a great host, his store next door literally has one of anything you can possibly need. Easy walk to the beach and restaurants. We will definitely return.

On a recent girls trip I shared a two bedroom apartment with a friend. The space was small but great for us to share for a week. Any more than two and it would have been crowded. The bathroom was tiny (and no outlet in there nor was there a hairdryer in the room). The apartment was quite dated but it was spotless and the property manager and housekeeper were both lovely and hospitable. For a cost of $70 per night each this was a steal. I am sure most would probably not deem this property suitable for them but it was booked full of regulars who spend a month or two there each winter. They all knew each other and meeting them and getting to know them was fantastic. Also, the quaint BVI properties are what keep me coming back. I must prefer this type of lodging over large hotels.

The location can't be beat. The far end of Cane Garden Bay...a short walk to the beach and bars at night but far enough that the music won't disturb you if you come in early. It was safe to walk after dark either on the beach or along the road. It was each to catch a ride from the Bay to other places on the island without having to pay taxi fare or for a rental vehicle.

We would definitely stay here again and would recommend this property to others!
