Lovely resort on the top of a hill. Great staff attention but never intrusive. Restaurant on site, which is a nice perk. Walking distance to grocery store and lots of bars for food and drinks. We felt safe on the island and didn't rent a car, walked and took the public transportation. Maybe next time we would rent a car to see and enjoy more of the beautiful beaches.
The 180 degree view of the ocean was incredible. Being at the top level, from the front balcony of the condo, we could sunbathe and watch the different sizes of boat navigating. The Vista is situated in a very quiet location, next to the Simpsons Bay.
La Vista is a difficult place to review, and that is why I gave it the benefit of 4 stars. Just so there are no surprises, when visiting St. Maarten you have to remember that the island was hit hard by hurricane Irma in September 2017 and they have few physical and financial resources with which to recover. Also, they depend heavily on the tourist industry which was also very heavily damaged by the hurricane. This island is shared by 2 countries, the French and the Dutch. The French part of the island was almost completely destroyed. The Dutch part of the island was hit very, very hard. The Dutch side has been able to make many improvements, but destruction is still evident everywhere. The French side is receiving very little to no financial support from their home country, and it is so damaged I don't know how the residents have continued to live there. That is where the rating problem comes in. If you are looking for a classy, 5-star resort, you won't find it here. The LaVista resort is very outdated but well maintained, and some would call it "charming". I would call it "cozy" or "comfortable". They still have some debris from the hurricane right on the grounds that they have been unable to clean up. Being located on a hillside, there are many steps to climb. The rooms were clean, but very outdated in every way. Room service was good. They have one restaurant and one bar which I would give 3 stars. They have a small infinity pool with a nice deck area and a covered patio, which were very enjoyable and well maintained, and provided a beautiful view of the ocean and surrounding area. Quiet. If you are looking for a place to kick back and relax, this is it. To those of you who are considering a visit to St. Maarten, I have to mention that everyone we encountered everywhere on the island was open and friendly, even in the back streets that are still trashed. I don't think I could maintain such a positive attitude. They need more tourists who are flexible and have an open mind, and I would encourage you to give them a try. It is a beautiful island.…
La Vista is AMAZING! It never disappoints! The staff, accommodations, pool, beach and the sunsets are always AMAZING! You feel at home when you stay there. It is easy to get to, centrally located in Simpson Bay. You can walk to dinner, night entertainment, and the beach. A MUST GO!
Stayed at La Vista for 10 days. Had an amazing view from balcony of 2-level unit. Met some regulars who’ve stayed at La Vista every year for 10+ years. Beautiful pool, plenty of chaises, smaller pool at lower units ON the beach which is an easy walk. Great food and staff. A definite return trip needed!!! Communication before trip was fabulous!
