We spent 4 nights at Hotel Rabot to celebrate my husband's birthday, and really enjoyed our stay at this unusual property. The surrounds are extremely beautiful, immersed in greenery, with noticeable care and attention to maintain harmony with nature. This, of course, means that the entire property is pretty much without any air-conditioning or temperature control, so if this is important to you then you may want to come prepared. You can ask for an extra standing/pedestal fan in your room and that really helps. We were upgraded to a Luxe Lodge for our stay, and that was a wonderful surprise and a great way to begin our visit - spacious rooms, large, comfy bed with a mosquito net, reclining loungers and a sofa in a semi-open veranda facing the Petit Piton, fridge, gorgeous bathroom with a rain shower (no bathtub though - just FYI) and double sinks, and plenty of towels, bathrobes and room slippers. It was also well-equipped with multiple charging points, USB ports and plenty of wardrobe space, in-room safe, ironing board, and a kettle plus tea and milk, of course. No TV, but hopefully you shouldn't need one while on holiday in a gorgeous place like this! During our stay, we made good use of the small but gloriously located infinity pool, tree to bean tour (very informative and presented with a lovely dose of humour and charm), spa treatment (excellent deep tissue massages - highly recommend), and self-guided walks of the expansive grounds. We also made use of the shuttle to the Malgretoute beach (glorious for both swimming and snorkeling, with wonderful service and food by the beach-facing local restaurant there - try the pork wrap and the shrimp roti if you're there) and tour to the Sapphire Falls, which were very well organised by the genuinely warm and helpful front desk staff. Hotel Rabot provided several very kind gestures throughout our stay, including leaving us a bottle of rose in our room for my husband's birthday with some complimentary chocolates - hugely appreciated. They also provide cookies and savoury coconut flakes (delicious!) in the room, which they will refill if empty, as well as drinking water refills (even though tap water is fine too) and milk, a cafeteire with very good coffee and a Velvetiser (for hot chocolate) with some compilmentary sachets (I loved the 100% chocolate). The only reason this isn't a 5-star review is because of the food in the restaurant. While we enjoyed most of our breakfasts (especially the brioche French toast - a must have!), the lunch and dinner meals were quite underwhelming, with more emphasis being placed on including some form of cacao in everything, rather than focussing on the flavour of the food itself. You could tell that good quality ingredients had been used, but we did not find any of our meals particularly memorable, and had eaten much more flavourful meals elsewhere in St Lucia. While the meat and fish cookery was faultless, a lot of the food was underseasoned (other than the tomato salad with a wonderful curry balsamic dressing) and almost always lacked salt, and was generally just a bit bland. Given the price of each item on the menu, it was disappointing that the food in the restaurant did not do justice to the rest of the place. The drinks were very nice, though, and the service was, as ever, wonderful. Nonetheless, we had a very enjoyable stay at Hotel Rabot and it was a great way to end our fantastic holiday in St Lucia. It will definitely cost you a pretty penny (not just the accommodation and the restaurant meals, but also most of the extra tours, trips and shuttles), but if you are looking for a different experience immersed in nature, then do consider giving this a go.…
