I am a 50-year-old mom who has done a fair amount of traveling (Brazil, Hawaii, Costa Rica, Mexico, Greece, Turkey, France, Iceland, Canada, various US national parks, etc.). I am delighted to say that the vacation my family recently experienced at Sugar Beach was, by far, the most luxurious of them all. Sugar Beach is a truly special location, a tropical paradise filled with gorgeous flowering plants and trees, situated right between the Piton mountains. Although man made, the white-sand beach is stunning, and the surrounding healthy coral reef just off shore is magnificent to behold under water. My husband and I went on a SCUBA trip that had crystal-clear visibility. We were mesmerized by the gorgeous iridescent coral formations and plentiful tropical fish. The following day my husband got certified to hunt lionfish (which are invasive to the reef), and he had a great experience spear fishing with a dive instructor! The hotel chef cooked the fresh lionfish right on the beach at Bonte Restaurant, and we had an absolutely delicious dinner. My family also attended a night snorkel with flashlights with two of our teenagers, and it was an incredible experience. We spotted tons of fish, lobsters, some eels, and even an octopus! The waterfront staff were excellent with the kids. This was an ideal location to learn how to dive, and the resort does offer an introduction to diving for people who are not yet certified. I loved the fact that you could SCUBA or snorkel right off the beach. In addition, the dive sites to which we traveled were just 5 minutes away in either direction, an easy ride for a person like me, who often gets seasick on boat rides. Seasickness was not an issue for me at all during this trip, a small miracle. The upkeep of the resort itself was meticulous. Our spacious, snow-white villa with a private plunge pool was spotless. We were impressed by the dedicated cellphone that could be used to reach our butler at any moment. We nicknamed the phone "Janet" after the character on the Good Place who magically delivers whatever the humans need at a moment's notice. Sugar Beach is a terraced structure, built into the surrounding steep heels. As someone who loves to walk and get exercise, the steepness was just fine with me. Older folks or those with physical challenges might struggle with the hills, but there was also the option of utilizing the hotel's robust shuttle system. Remarkably, I felt in better physical shape at the end of the vacation than at the beginning. The daily breakfast was fantastic. My children loved the crepe and acai stations, and I enjoyed having a morning salad and tons of fresh fruit. The French pastries were out of this world. My only critique regarding the food would be the prices for the buffets, which were quite high. That being said, the beach barbecue buffet had an excellent array of delicious food choices, and my kids went crazy for the dessert table. The desserts included a chocolate fountain, cotton candy station, unlimited candy, S'mores, and tons of delicious cakes, cookies, tarts, etc. It felt much like attending a wedding and indulging in a fancy Viennese dessert table. The excursions were also pricey, but extremely enjoyable. In addition to the water activities, my daughter and I loved climbing the "Gros Piton" mountain. My other daughter, who hates hiking, had a wonderful time making her own chocolate bars at Hotel Chocolat. The entire family had lots of fun on the Superman waterfall hike, where we learned about the medicinal properties of many local plants. Lastly, we took a taxi ride to Soufriere, where we enjoyed touring the botanical gardens and the Diamond waterfall. This excursion was much less expensive, because the only significant cost was the taxi ride. In summary, Sugar Beach is well worth the trip for anyone who loves great food, top-notch service, and magical scenery, both above and below the water.

Beautiful pristine beach! It’s very low key and quiet. You have to park up the street in the free parking and walk down if you aren’t staying at the resort. The walk back up is horrible but we had a nice person from the hotel pick us up and drive us back to our car. The people are so friendly and helpful everywhere in St. Lucia.

Sugar Beach is a wonderful sophisticated resort, nestled between the Pitons is an idyllic and unique location. The beautiful villas and exceptional service set it apart from many other resorts I’ve previously stayed. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, that said there were a few things that fell short for us but they certainly didn’t spoil or time and I’d love to return. As a family of four with teenage children we stayed in a Two Bedroom Ocean View Villa Residence with pool which was simply stunning. Offering ample indoor and outdoor space with a modern and contemporary feel. The house was well equipped and maintained to a high standard. We were lucky enough to be at the bottom of the hill, within easy walking distance to the all resort amenities beach and main hotel. The resort is very steep and spread out so some accommodation may be a real hike and feel a little cut off, although shuttle service is excellent. The Butler service (thank you 😃Markenzie) makes your stay more relaxing and seamless, taking care of every request. Arranging trips, restaurant reservations, taxis, shuttles around the resort, housekeeping times, even milk for the fridge! The list goes on…. It also allows Check in and check out at your property making it easy and effortless. Resort Positives Shuttles were super efficient, arrived in minutes and sometimes seconds! Butler service (had to give it a second mention) Saltwood Restaurant- fantastic Food, service and setting (ask for a table on the balcony to maximise the amazing view) Cane Bar Restaurant- Lovely food and great service, highly recommend a visit The Beach Sunbeds are plentiful and although not necessary can be reserved. Service is good, the blue flag provided to wave to get attention is a great touch. Resort Negatives Breakfast wasn’t in keeping with the overall standard of the resort and the biggest disappointment of my stay. Buffet style with a decent choice but generally underwhelming, and items such as Eggs Benedict were only offered on an a la carte menu at an extra cost. Set up looked temporary and service offered for coffees was very hit and miss. Bontes restaurant was nice for a less formal evening offering its standard menu but the Beach BBQ night which was not a Beach BBQ night, really disappointing and an absolute ripoff at USD150 per person. I’d expected tables set up on the beach with flames, music, and a bbq offering freshly cooked meat, fish etc. In reality you ate in the restaurant at the usual tables with what was mainly a buffet, there was a bbq on the beach but food was limited and pre cooked and warmed up, making in very dry. The Food choice was plentiful but a real mish mash, from sushi to roast beef, roast lamb, Yorkshire pudding and gravy ??? Pool Area was well kept but felt a bit sterile and not at all welcoming, again not what I’d have expected from a resort of this standard. Taking everything into account Sugar Beach is a Beautiful resort if they addressed my negative comments I might never want to leave.

So many wonderful things to say about the resort! It is expensive but the location, amenities, and customer service are worth it. Our butler as well as all the staff - drivers, servers, gym attendants, spa attendants/therapists, fitness coaches, management were all kind and attentive. All of them had friendly attitudes and kindly answered any of my questions. The butler service is so helpful in trip planning although of course you could do this in advance on your own if you desired. Shout out to Peter for being so friendly and professional! The island is of course small and it was helpful to have the butler make any arrangements for you - ie, sunset table at Dasheen (a neighboring resort restaurant) or excursions. The food overall was quite good. It is pricey but this is a small island where many things are imported so I find it expected. I would also recommend choosing items in the menu that are locally grown or caught/farmed. The quality of the local fish and fruit, for example, is excellent. Do try the creole dishes as well. It was nice having a variety of restaurants to choose from at the stay without feeling strongly you needed to leave. We loved the ceviche and fish dishes, particularly at Cane bar best. I do wish they offered more local, fresh-caught fish on the menu (“fish of the day” served in various ways, which I never saw on any menu and was surprised). We came here as a couple as a getaway with a babysitter at home (yesss!). The resort is quite family friendly as well and we may return as a family. As a couple, we loved the dining, the beach, the snorkeling, the gym, and the comfortable beds. My only complaint is about privacy. The resort overall prides itself on privacy. We booked a beach bungalow thinking it would be lovely by the beach. It was, however, far from private. Our bungalow (12) is closest to the main sidewalk to the beach to the chairs and also adjacent to the staff hut for beach food/drink orders. From 7 am - 7 pm there were employees literally steps away from the private lounge pool and deck of our room (just doing their jobs of course!). There are few photos online of rooms but the ones of the bungalows are a bit deceptive - there are a few at the opposite end (21-25 I think) that are private away from beach chairs/traffic with more private pools. These are what are photographed and from where my expectations were based. I did not ask to move and thought I may get an upgrade upon arrival given booking with travel agent, but the resort was fully booked and I do not think it was possible. I would chose a more private area next time. But I will say the beach and all areas of the resort are extremely convenient to the bungalows and enjoyed that part of the location! The interior of the room was gorgeous and appeared to be new (or newly renovated) within the last 1-2 years.

We are a family of five (10, 7, 5 yo) and have visited a number of other Caribbean islands (St Kitts, Nevis, Bahamas, Barbados, Turks) at similar quality resorts. Sugar Beach is hands down our favourite! It's not one specific thing... it's everything. The island is breath taking and the resort is nothing short of amazing. We stayed for a week and absolutely enjoyed it. From start to finish the staff at every level were very attentive. There was a genuine desire to please and you felt a strong sense of pride in their service. This consistency is quite unique in my experience. Our butlers (Sherman and Shay) were great the whole stay and sorted a small issue we had with our villa with ease. Ched was fantastic and checked in often to ensure we were enjoying ourselves. We also met James Wyndham (MD) who was amazing...we saw him at all different spots around the resort and, again, it's rare to have senior mgmt that really care about every individuals stay. If there was a problem, he was going to try his hardest to find a solution. Too often these days the luxurious resorts take it for granted that there will always be a line of willing customers. Another gauge of how much I enjoy a resort is whether I can still find something i really want to eat on the menu on day 7. The Viceroy excels here .. there are basically 4 different restaurants than all provide substantially different cuisine with extensive menus and outstanding food. There were no meals that went to a default decision and the cocktail list had a near endless selection of unique drinks. The villas were very comfortable. Clean, light and airy ... very island feel to them. Be aware that the resort is set on a relatively steep hill but this is part of the charm/character of the resort and the transport is next level. The beach is perfect and the view is amazing. Loads of covered chairs and well spaced out. Yes, it's a public beach but there was zero issue on that front when i was there. There is loads to do with kids (snorking, fishing, chocolate making, volcano tour, ziplining etc). I have read a few reviews that say it's over-priced etc but in my mind it's good value. The resort and location is just phenomenal and if you are looking to spend a quality week with your family, there are few places in the world that are the full package. And this is one of them.

I have traveled all over the world for over half a century and have never found a more beautiful hotel and beach resort. Pure white sand, nestled in between a UNESCO World Heritage Site, of the iconic St Lucia Pitons. The Viceroy delivers on amazing service, food, decor and staff. After spending 2 nights at the neighboring Jade Mountain Resort, walking into our beachfront bungalow with AC was amazing! We debated doing a one bedroom residence, which is up higher on the property, but we were so happy with our choice! Our room was immaculate with a private view of our own little beach and the Piton Mountain. We walked out our back door to get further down the beach to where the chairs and huts were. We took a kayak out, went snorkeling and laid around on the trampoline floats. The only down side to this beach is recuse it is so beautiful, everyone wants to come here! The beaches aren't private so cruises would dump off loads of people to come snorkeling or lay out around us. Suddenly our quiet beach was booming! Fortunately there is a second beach option that is more secluded. The property was very large with many things to do and a shuttle on call to take you to wherever you wanted go.

From the moment we arrived to be greeted by our personal butler, Sherman, at our cottage, we experienced outstanding service and quality. The room was airy, large and bright with its own pool, and well equipped with everything you could possibly need. What you couldn’t find, or whatever you needed the butlers were on hand to deliver swiftly. Every room has total privacy, not over looked and individual. It’s worth noting that the resort is on a steep hill - and whilst we quite enjoyed the walks to breakfast and the beach appreciate not everyone would, the resort has a really solid transport offering which arrives in seconds to take you to wherever you want to go if the walk doesn’t appeal. Breakfast is served with a perfect view of the gardens and you welcomed by really lovely staff, we saw the same folk throughout the trip. kaysha always had a smile first thing! The beach is exceptional, nestled between the Pitons and the beach service was faultless. There is loads of opportunities to go and explore with boat trips / snorkelling / hiking which is all arranged. The restaurants are well staffed, service is fabulous and food quality very good. Massive shout out to Sharma, and Ched who we had the pleasure of being served by most days. Cocktails on the beach was a particular highlight each day as we watched the sun set. The management are responsive and very keen to listen to anything that could be improved, and Jonathan was especially helpful. It’s worth noting that this resort is at a high price point, and I’d encourage anyone booking to view menus etc before booking, as the advice and quality don’t come cheap. This resort is simply stunning; and from the moment we arrived until the moment we left we felt completely whisked away from normal routine. It caters well for families / couples and groups.

Sugar Beach Resort is a truly beautiful and unique place. We were staying at the villa that had a beautiful view at magnificent Pitons and Caribbean Sea. So that was already magical. Our personal butler Felicia was super nice and very professional. Always ready to serve our needs and full of good advices regarding our out of hotel excursions. Resort has 4 restaurants. We ate at all of them. Food was very good and the staff exceptional. Over all we are highly recommending Sugar Beach!

As I've said to people I know, I hit a home run in selecting Sugar Beach as the beach resort my girlfriend and i stayed at in St. Lucia. It is the PERFECT location on the island, right between the two great pitons. The room view is great. The water is warm and the beach fabulous. The food was magnificent, and the private excursions we set up through the resort we're all we could have asked for and actually exceeded our expectations. The resort even customized our snorkeling excursion for us. The resort is expensive, but it's worth it. We stayed three nights here and then three nights in a mountain villa (please see my review of Caille Blanc Villa). It was the perfect combination.
