We stayed at The Malecon House for 4 nights in January, 2020. We had a balcony view of the ocean Suite 11 and it was lovely. The Hotel was perfect, the service was excellent, and their complimentary breakfast on the sea side view terrace was wonderful! Not to be missed ~ close by Sun Bay for swimming ~ where you will see wild horses, and up the coast to the beautiful and unspoiled beaches of the National Wildlife Refuge.

Malecon House is a lovely and well run hotel on the Malecon. It is across the road from the ocean and walking distance to bars, restaurants and shops. The grounds are lush and well kept and there is a large splash pool. Though there is no restaurant on site they think of everything. They serve a lovely continental breakfast with still warm luscious pastries and fresh fruit. You can purchase beer, wine ,soft drinks, juice and snacks. The prices are very reasonable. Also as mentioned there are restaurants within walking distance. Everything you need for a day at the beach is provided. Beach towels, chairs, cooler and ice at no additional cost. The rooms are clean, modern and well appointed. The very best is the staff. The three ladies in the office are wonderful. They will bend over backwards to help you out and have a great knowledge of the area. A special shout out to Mary Beth . She is the reason I booked there in the first place. I called to get information and she spent a lot of time clarifying how to get to Vieques, providing information about the area and about Malecon House. She then sent me a long text with all the information for renting a vehicle in Vieques and more. So helpful. We highly recommend this establishment.

We stayed 3 nights at the Malecon House and were impressed by many things. The hotel is in a prime location, on the beachfront near the west end of the main drag in Esperanza. The building and the surrounding areas were impeccably clean and well maintained, with beautifully trimmed trees and shrubbery, dotted with tempting patches of green grass that we were told the roaming horses on the island try to sneak in for a bite every chance they get when the sliding metal gate is inadvertently left open! Though open to the esplanade, the hotel exudes privacy and serenity. There’s a spacious parking area in front (behind the low sliding gate), private pool area with tables, chairs, chaises and overstuffed couches around the side, and rattan chairs by the front entry to just sit and enjoy the ocean view and clouds lazily drifting by in a bright blue sky, or stare with unfocused gaze at the palm trees waving in the gentle breeze and think of nothing, or people-watch. The serenity continues inside with clean designs and soothing colors, strategically placed chairs and benches that invite you to relax and drop your loads, whatever they may be. There’s a small but comfortable and bright sitting room with snacks and soft drinks (and wine in the evening) for purchase, self-serve. A library on the second floor and a rooftop with a great view are additional amenities. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, but unobtrusive. The only short comings we found were with the room itself, and the breakfasts. The room size was generous, but the beds sat on bulky wooden frames that creaked when one tossed and turned, and the corners were shin-bangers and toe-stubbers! Especially in the dark. The shower water could be temperamental, scalding hot one minute and ice cold the next. The pillows were many but none was comfortable. The breakfast was skimpy: cereals, packaged oatmeal and unimpressive little pastries, and the granola smelled rancid ( maybe change to a different kind without sunflower seeds?) The coffee was drinkable, but we were spoiled by the fantastic freshly ground lattes and espressos in our San Juan hotel.

This was my second visit to Malecon House just 8 weeks after my first visit. My husband and I stayed on our first visit to Vieques and was over the moon with the beautiful property and the staff. It is like staying at a spa. The second time I came with my mom and my 19 yr old daughter and they LOVED it as well. Extra clean, spacious rooms with very comfortable beds. Extra attention to details such as having a water cooler for refilling water bottles with cold water, beach chairs, beach umbrellas, rain umbrellas and coolers placed by an ice machine to keep your beverages and or snacks cool. Gorgeous pool with loungers that have clean towels arranged every day. Very nice continental breakfast that offers fresh fruit, baked goods, Greek yogurt, oatmeal, cereals and such. Coffee is fantastic! Can you tell how much we love it! Can’t wait to return to once again see Sarah, Marybeth, Carmen and the rest of the great staff.. The Shaughnessy’s
