#6 of 8 in Isla de Vieques
GreenLeaders Gold level
Vieques’ Hacienda Tamarindo offers 17 very special rooms, each lovingly and creatively designed and decorated by owner, Linda Vail -- her swan song after over 20 years as a commercial interior designer. Each guest room and public space is unique; imaginatively spiced with a lifetime’s accumulation of art, antiques, and collectibles. An ancient Tamarind tree in the lobby atrium majestically rises three stories through the center of the building. Terraces, courtyards, and sitting rooms offer ample space for relaxation and conversation. The Hacienda is perched on a hilltop with spectacular 180 degree views of the Caribbean -- from sunrise to sunset; looking down on the bedazzling, ever-changing myriad of blue, emerald and turquoise waters. Caribbean trade winds and lazy paddle fans keep you cool and comfortable. Here, you can fall asleep to a tree frog serenade and awake to the smell of jasmine on the gentle sea breeze.

Very comfortable & attractive island setting, both rooms and common areas. Drive only a short distance to the center of town. Delicious & plentiful breakfasts. Most of all, very warm & accommodating staff!

Hotel's Favorite
My wife and I stayed here for four days during our honeymoon in November 2021. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. We had a beautiful view of the ocean and of the horseback riding lessons through our windows. It was located near the breakfast area, but we weren't awakened or bothered by any noise in the mornings. The staff were very helpful. They arranged an island tour, a rum distillery tour, a horseback ride, a bio bay tour, and most importantly, a rental car for us. We felt very well take care of during our time there. They also made it simple and painless for us to check out and leave for our early morning flight even before the office was open that day. If I had to find a complaint, it would be that we did find the breakfasts to be a bit disappointing compared to the rest of the experience. The food and coffee just seemed a step below the rest of the service there.

Hacienda Tamarindo was the perfect spot. The boutique hotel is beautiful. The staff goes above and beyond. Daily breakfasts and packed lunches for beach trips were excellent. Beds were very comfortable. Views gorgeous. The excellent staff at Hacienda Tamarindo has thought of everything you will need for your stay in Vieques.

Our visit in mid-March was our fourth to Vieques over several years, our first to Hacienda Tamarindo, and our best yet. We have always loved the island and enjoyed the places we have stayed (guesthouses), but everything about Hacienda Tamarindo makes it now our clear favorite. After researching places to stay again, I called HT and though the week we wanted was mostly booked, the staff was patient, creative and friendly finding us rooms which were splendidly comfortable and with beautiful views. I'd been unsuccessful finding a rental car for that busy week, but on our arrival, Maira found us a perfect rental car, at Maritza's no less, which made a huge difference to our enjoyment of the week. Throughout the week the staff was wonderfully helpful in many small important ways, Caritza, Elba, the maintenance staff and of course the kitchen staff. Breakfast was as convenient, congenial and delicious as everyone reports. It's a beautiful place! We'll be back next March.

We really enjoyed our stay and would return for sure. The low-key place is a cross between and inn and a B&B, a long walk or short drive from Esperanza. Very helpful and friendly staff. Caribbean Deluxe room was fairly spacious with comfy bed and a nice patio. Breakfast area very pleasant and good food, although the fresh fruit could be fresher/ more ripe. Two minor issues: Noise from roosters on the adjacent property kept us up a bit, and the picnic lunch was subpar although also very convenient to take to the beach.

Stayed four nights at Hacienda Tamarindo and could not be happier with the service, location of the hotel and amenities. Hotel is centrally located to the main strip in Esperanza but feels remote enough to relax. Pool is wonderful with amazing views and horses grazing in near by pasture. Breakfast served daily was wonderful and also have the option to pay for a lunchbox; which comes in handy as there are not so many food options near the beaches. There is no restaurant on the premise but mojito bar across the street is a good option for food/ drinks. After checkout we were able to store our luggage and use the pool and there is a bathroom to shower use before heading out. Will advise to rent a car/ jeep or golf cart as you will need to have to get to most beaches and restaurants. Room was spacious, clean and did have some mosquitos but it’s an island and you have to expect that. Overall, a wonderful stay. I highly recommend and certainly will travel back to Vieques and stay at Hacienda Tamarindo.

Hacienda Tamarindo is a beautiful inn with an exceptional staff. The view across a meadow of wild horses to the sea is gorgeous, the rooms are good-sized, breakfast is yummy and they will make a boxed lunch if you like. This is our second stay with them. We highly recommend it!

Hacienda Tamarindo is a excellent choice for a few days of vacation. The rooms are quite comfortable, and the staff is very helpful. The honor bar, with drinks and snacks, is a nice feature, and the large public bathroom contains a shower so people can prepare for their trip home after checking out of their room.

I just got back from Vieques and my husband and I had a great stay at the Hacienda Tamarindo. We stayed in the Caribbean Deluxe suite and it was large and very comfortable. Our room had a private patio with views of the ocean. Everyone was so helpful and friendly. Breakfast was so good. One morning the special was french toast stuffed with cream cheese and mango preserves. It is quiet and not overly crowded. A perfect place to refresh and relax. Thank you Burr and Linda for a great vacation.
