On the south side of Vieques, Esperanza fishing village is the place to be. Since 1984, Trade Winds - within walking distance of beaches and restaurants - has offered affordable rooms, a congenial atmosphere, popular bar and fine restaurant specializing in Caribbean lobster. All rooms are air-conditioned, non-smoking and most have shared terraces. We do have one room, Room 4, which does not have A/C, but does get a cross breeze, which makes it very cool in the evenings. Continental Breakfast is served al fresco overlooking the tranquil harbor, which is included with your room. Restaurant is open Sundays for Brunch and Monday through Wednesday for Dinner. Easy access to biobay tours makes Trade Winds the savvy choice.

This was actually our second time staying at Trade Winds and it was just what we needed to get away from it all. The rooms are clean, cool with air conditioning and the beds - very comfortable. The room we stayed in opened out in into a shared patio and we loved the extra space this provided. The front of the hotel has a lovely covered porch where they serve breakfast and we spent several hours looking over at the beautiful view of the ocean. Trade Winds is also located within walking distance to several restaurants, tour operators, convenience stores and beaches. The owners and staff are wonderful and we can't wait to go back!

Service: Many of the staff members are former mainland Americans who live on the island. Check in is in front of the restaurant, you many need to notify restaurant staff if the office is closed. Room Quality: The room was a decent size and was very clean. The AC worked perfectly which was important for this trip. It’s a simple Caribbean set up and had everything we needed. Location: Vieques is small. The location here is perfect because you are less than 5 minutes away from multiple restaurants and tour agents for the bio-bay. There is one beach that is walk-able. The ferry terminal is on the other side of the island and is a fun 20 minute taxi. Amenities: The breakfast was awesome. Fresh fruit bowls, cereal, juices, toast and great coffee. Enjoying a relaxing breakfast on the patio was my favorite part of this property. Real deal: Felt that we got good value for the money. Convenient location, great breakfast. Great launching point for the rest of the island.

We stayed at La Casita which was in the back of the Guesthouse and had 1 King bed and one queen bed. Felt very safe and we also had breakfast included which was a plus. Our breakfast view was incredible.

The location is fantastic - across from the water. The accommodations are pretty spartan - linen and soap provided, but you will need to bring your own shampoo, for example. The wifi is spotty, there is no tv, and the room barely fits the beds - but there is a/c and the complimentary continental breakfast is generous and includes fresh fruit.

Great location and clean! We only stayed one night and had a great nights sleep. Very clean and quiet. My only complaint is the lack of hot water in the shower but considering everything they have gone through after hurricane Maria we had a great stay.
