Ponce Plaza Hotel & Casino is located at the corner of Reina and Union Street, in downtown Ponce. The hotel has a unique concept that intertwines modern style and historical architecture. The historic facade dating from 1882 is regulated by the Puerto Rico Institute of Culture. It was built by the owner at the time, Mr. Francisco Roubert, who along with former ex-slaves conducted this valuable architectural gem and lived for many years with his family. In 1912, it becomes the Liceo Ponceno School, the first all-girl school. After many years as a commercial property, it was purchased by the Munoz family and restored to what today is known as the Ponce Plaza Hotel & Casino. The hotel amenities are, the Casino de la Plaza, Lola Eclectic Cuisine Restaurant, Melao Coffee Shop, Viva Bar and a swimming pool. The Ponce Plaza Hotel and Casino includes 7 rooms that reflect the colonial style of the historic building and 62 rooms that offer a modern touch, all 69 rooms embellish this boutique style hotel in the heart of the city of Ponce, Puerto Rico.

Detailed Reviews
I am very happy with my stay at the Ponce Hotel and Casino. It is is in a great location across from the cathedral, in walking distance of the historical sites and many dining choices. I stayed in a historic room located in the front of the hotel, facing the cathedral. Wonderful atmosphere. The bed was excellent, good bedding, good sir conditioning. It is not deluxe and the old hotel has it's worn edges. There is no in room safe nor electronic licks. I felt secure as thesraff is paying attention and very nice.

We really wanted to like this hotel. It was modern and clean and chic. However, the service was unacceptable.
We had been in our room about 45 minutes when I realized the WiFi wasn’t working. I called guest services, told the woman on the other end about the issue, she told me she’d contact IT, then hung up on me. 3 hours later, still no WiFi, so we went to the front desk to ask if something could be done. The young man at the desk said he’d contact IT but they won’t be in until the next day.
Fast forward to the next day, we get back to the hotel at around 3 pm, still no WiFi, so we stop off at the front desk. The gentleman there says IT was contacted and they didn’t find a problem. We show him screenshots of our devices not connecting. He will call them, again. After hearing nothing for a few hours, we stopped at the desk to ask about the WiFi for the fourth time! The gentleman says oh, the IT guy has confirmed the WiFi doesn’t work in our room. Why did it take 4 complaints and over 24 hours for the staff to believe us? Why didn’t anyone reach out to us?
We are told we can switch to a room that gets WiFi. We pack up all our things and move rooms. The WiFi works! But we were put in the room across from the first floor elevator, where folks were running and screaming in the halls past midnight, and outside our window was an active construction site. We were truly moved to the worst room in the hotel after being blown off for a full day. So we woke up very early to the sounds of a building being demolished. This is the hospitality you can expect if you have the audacity to point out the WiFi doesn’t work… 4 times before someone actually listens to you.
When we checked out I asked to speak to the supervisor because this experience was not what we had expected. The supervisor was apparently busy. I asked the very nice and apologetic lady behind the desk if we could get some kind of discount based on our experience. She refunded the price of our parking and said that was all she could do. I’m sure it was, but what a giant disappointment!
I would not stay here again. I’m not sure why our concerns were ignored. And we were really disappointed with the whole experience.

Perfect location
The hotel is very cozy. Perfect location. Close to great restaurants. Rooms are very confortable but needs improvement. Bed are very good; but pillows are very soft.
The hotel also have parking facilities at $11 per day.
There is a 10% of hotel fees not included in Booking reservation.
We will definitely stay again.

WHOA SHOCKED IN THE WORST WAY!!! We chose this hotel because it was as much as the casino resorts (get the resort) and heart of Ponce. We arrived at 4am and informed them prior, during booking, our flight lands early but were not informed of fee. It was fine but courtesy information should be given prior. The elevator is further and hidden when it should be accessible for handicap. The pool is pretty small and right next to the parking lot, no view. When we entered the room the smell of water mold smacks you in the face. The room was so tiny and out of date, I knew right away we were not staying. We couldn't shower off the airplane funk, as the standing shower floor was stained brown. The bathroom is extremely small as well which made sense why they only had the small standing shower, no tub. The AC was unmanageable and extremely loud like a motor running on no oil. My husband and daughter were exhausted, so we decided to sleep a couple hours before leaving. Sleep was impossible!!! Reminder we came at 4AM. Where the balcony (no sort of pretty view to the heart of Ponce) is you have the back of a building and parking lot with a alley it seems. 5AM a truck was having trouble backing up into something and it was extremely loud. Close to 545AM someone was honking like a maniac in the parking lot of the hotel that echos (which is the view when you open your room door so you hear everything). A little after 615AM workers began construction (which you are not given courtesy information prior after booking) and they were loud. Not only is the work being down loud but the workers are talking and laughing so loud there conversation sound as if they were in our room. We said we couldn't sleep so there was no point to stay longer. After 7AM we check out and they charged us over $250 for no more than 3 1/2 hours being there. I didn't have energy to argue because of no sleep. There is no Kidzone like you see in the picture, that is from a little corner of the cafe there and nomore game. We grabbed breakfast at 5hat cafe $17 for waffles and eggs with juice. I truly do not understand the great ratings as the room itself was more like one of those hourly cheap hotels. The colors of the building and certain little areas definitely cause deceiving pictures. We booked Hilton Golf & Casino Resort and wish we did that first. Holiday Inn Resort is the same price or $100 or $200 more just stay somewhere else and much nicer. Don't do it to yourself if you want to sleep and enjoy Ponce.

The staff was not able to correct the following 1. Bath Towel Bar fell off wall when using towel to dry hands immediately upon check-in 2. Phone cord did not affix to house phone in room making it complicated to make and recieve calls. 3. No coffee maker.. 4. floors dirty 5. No furniture on porch to use.. 6.They offered a recommendation for preference they did not accommodate. My request for a room with a view instead gave me room overlooking the employee parking lot. 7 I used the laundry in the process no quarters available they did not offer key to laundry upon first contact for quarters which sent me to Parking garage. Back to reception for key to laundry. They took my towels from pool side I had to request a new set three times. There are no guests here for w reason and these are just a few.

First of all, this hotel is divide in three separate buildings. What you see in the picture (yellow building) is the Casino/Café/pool/Admin offices). The hotel room are located in the back in a separate building (no security), next to the garage building. The room was a total disappointment, so much that we cancelled the second night stay. The room felt like you were at a beach bolongo with old tile floors and the main door with an inch gap in the bottom, which allowed bugs (spiders and lizards) and street noise in. The rest room barely had hot water or pressure. The toilet (separate room) was ventilated by a open window to the outdoor hallway. The curtains reminded me of a Dracula movie. BTW, this was a Junior Suite. Never staying here again. The only thing this hotel has going for it is the Casino, location, and the Coffee shop.

+1
First of all, the bathroom was in bad conditions, the towel rack was rusty, window vent dirty, water pressure weak, couldn’t find warm water, it was super hot or cold.
From 5 days, they only make the bed one day.
At the time to check out, they charged the parking around $11 for each day when they never mentioned it, they always said to give the parking ticket to validate it.
Overall it wasn’t a good experience.

Hotel is beautiful and well situated. Main complaint was the inability to manage the room temperature - you have to call the front desk to have it adjusted. After several requests to have the temperature raised we told they could not and gave us extra blankets. As beautiful as the room was, it means nothing if I'm uncomfortable because I'm cold. We had to open the bay doors to level the room temperature - would be so at night out of fear of mosquitoes! Not the best experience!

Hotel failed to inform anyone there is heavy construction/demolition right outside every hotel room. You won’t be able to sleep past 0630!
When I asked what was going on outside, front desk immediately knew what I meant.

First time staying the hotel and loved it. Went for the Carnaval Ponceño and being able to watch the parades from their main balcony was a bonus.
Room was very clean, spacious, comfortable, also nice and cold. Breakfast included at Melao had delicious coffee and food. All the staff we encountered were very pleasant and helpful.
