Power outages cause the tv and a/c to go out. The lights flicker in the middle of the night and fire alarms go off. Service is poor at this property. Food slow, staff doesn’t call you back and always apologizing instead of correcting the problem. Even their emails start with apology about such poor service. Lovely place but needs help. Even roof at restaurant leaked all over our dinner event.

My Trip Advisor review about my stay at Ritz Reserve Dorado Beach last February 2021 detailed many flaws about the service at the Resort but also focused on the resort’s beauty. My wife and decided to return for 10 nights in Nov 2021, and we were ecstatic to experience a complete turn around and wonderful service exhibited by the entire staff. Kudos to management for listening, caring, and following through on their promise to correct the issues from our previous stay. Management accepted the challenge when we contacted them in advance of our return, and they came through like Champs. Over the 10 days, we had 3 butlers who were fantastic- Miguel, Nicole, and Guillermo. Chef Joen at COA took care of us with personal attention and catered to our special dietary needs. Nikolai, Manager of Guest Experiences, stayed in touch with us every day to make sure every detail was perfect. Our 10 day stay was as perfect as can be provided. For us here are the reasons we love this resort: 1) Spacious room, with private heated pool (partially covered to protect in event of rain) just a few steps from the beach 2) Private beach with pristine sand and ocean protected by a reef 100 yards out 3) The best outdoor shower we ever experienced 4) Service attention, detail, and caring to make our stay as seamless and comfortable as possible 5) As a runner, the 6-mile trail is PERFECT, traversing through rain forest, golf courses, and the beach- all on paved roads through perfectly manicured settings. 6) Great spacious gym with all the most up to date equipment 7) Flexible culinary staff accommodating all our special dietary needs 8) One of the most beautiful Spas I have ever seen All in All- great service in a most beautiful setting. We will be returning!

I wanted to share with you our overall negative experiences my fiancé and I underwent while dealing with your resort and staff over a two and a half month period earlier this year. My fiancé and her family are from Puerto Rico so it was easily our first choice for a wedding venue. It had such special meaning to her and I saying "I do" on her island. In stark contrast though Dorado failed us. In one sentence, Dorado went from being our dream wedding venue from the time we were dating, to a hurtful, painful and very sad dream crushing experience. September / October 2020 Back in September/October 2020 I contacted the resort regarding the possibility of us hosting our upcoming wedding with you. The point of contact was Rachel Abrams. Rachel responded timely and was very pleasant to discuss some preliminary details and possibilities with. My proposal plans unfortunately were pushed back due to COVID restrictions. Back in February of 2021 is when I reached back out to Rachel to update her and gather further details. I was moving forward with our engagement/proposal and wanted to set up a tour of the property with Dorado for our upcoming visit to Puerto Rico. February / March 2021 This is where things started to turn. At first Rachel was responsive again putting me in contact with Amy Cabera who is the point of contact at the resort for site tours. Amy was responsive at first, but after a couple weeks when I reached back out to confirm our appointment time as we were arriving in about a week, I did not receive any response. I then contacted Rachel to ask her about the loss of communication and Rachel did not respond either. Getting nervous that we were about to leave from Chicago to come to Puerto Rico for a wedding visit with no confirmation, I decided to call both Rachel and Amy, I left messages for both women with no return calls. At this point I was getting upset, we are prospective customers/guests and we were not being treated with any acceptable level of customer service. I called the resort directly to express my concern and needing to get in touch with Amy. The operator took down my message and said they would let Amy know to give me a call back. Amy called me back and had no memory of our emails, but I set up our time and confirmed our venue visit. We were pleased and very excited for our visit and we were willing to forget about the previous lack of communication. March 30th Site Visit My fiance, her mom, and I arrived at Dorado ecstatic as we drove down the beautiful driveway and arrived at Dorado's gates. We pulled up and stated our business, yet the security guard had no record of our appointment. My nerves were heighting. This ended up with us having to pull off to the side and sit for 30min in our car while the staff tries to get in touch with Amy. This was not only somewhat embarrassing for us having to sit off to the side as many cars are allowed through, but also this hurt us that Dorado was not prepared for us and at this point did not make us feel "special" as a newly engaged couple on a wedding site tour. After the wait we were allowed to proceed. We were pleasantly greeted at the hotel entrance by Amy. She was extremely nice and our tour began. We fell in love with the resort and everything that it had to offer for our wedding. Amy was knowledgeable and during our conversation we found out two things: 1. Amy had email problems and did not receive my emails confirming our appointment. I understood this could happen, however my voicemails were not returned. Again we were willing to give Amy and the resort the benefit of the doubt and established communication. 2. Rachel is not on property, yet she handles the contracts. This was a little concerning that we would never meet with the contract person. Also Amy was unable to answer many of our questions and told us Rachel was the person to talk to. Again this was frustrating as we were at the resort for a wedding venue tour, yet many of our wedding questions were not able to be answered The night after the tour we emailed Amy a list of questions we had. Amy informed us she forwarded our questions to Rachel as she was the one to provide answers. This was on March 30th. April 2021-Present So we have been patiently waiting for Rachel to respond to our questions since March 30th. I touched base with Amy to express that we still had not heard back from Rachel. Getting frustrated we sent Rachel a separate email with our questions on April 9th. On April 14th I was very upset that we still have not received answers to our question, not even a response stating any of our emails were received. I decided to call the hotel directly to find out what was going on with Rachel. I called the hotel and nobody answered, no operator, nothing. I tried the spa and restaurants separately just to try to get someone to answer, nothing. I have NEVER experienced calling a hotel with no answer by anyone. I tried off and on for a couple hours and finally got the Hotel Operator to answer. I expressed our deep frustration with Rachel's lack of response. I had asked to speak to Rachel's boss Isabelle, however I was not able to speak directly with her, the operator had promised to pass along my message. MAGICALLY a few hours after my phone call I get an email response from Rachel. She stated that she had been very busy dealing with a few emergencies, and proceeded to answer our questions. Upon reading her email we naturally had a few follow up questions which we sent right off that same night. This was on April 14th. Again we were waiting and waiting for a response from Rachel, after phone voicemail and email follow ups to check on Rachel's response we did not receive a response until April 24th. Rachel said she was out of town and wanted to set up a phone call. Ok fine. Again we gave Dorado and Rachel another benefit of the doubt, however after about a month passing without some meaningful discussion we were becoming increasingly frustrated and concerned with the level of service we were receiving as a very serious buyer. We had our phone call with Rachel on April 26th. Rachel started off VERY unprepared and said that to make things easier we should 'start from scratch', tell tale signs she did not have any notes in front of her, or underwent any preparation for our phone call. As well as unprepared, Rachel simply did not seem knowledgeable about the services she was offering, she was not smooth or fluent with any sales pitch established, which is something we would expect from someone who has worked for this resort for years. Her phone call was filled with "ums, ahs, etc" She did not recognize when my fiancé made a point to say she and her family were from Puerto Rico and she did not even start the conversation with a "congratulations" on our engagement. In short she was not approachable, or professional in her phone call. She was snotty about the resort and did nothing to make us feel special as a wedding couple, nor offered any special touches to separate us from a regular hotel guest. Rachel had said she was going to work on a cost estimate for us. That was after our phone call on April 26th. It took another phone call to the hotel, and finally on May 4th, we received our cost estimate along with a snarky and unprofessional comment about "thanking us for contacting the hotel". After this point Rachel and us exchanged a few more emails to clarify some food and beverage questions to which she was rather timely. However the damage to the service reputation had been done. It took me sending a mass email to the hotel to finally get a response from Isabelle offering an apology and a new team to work with. Why weren't we offered this when we continued to express our problems to the hotel back in April???? TOO LITTLE TO LATE!! ------------------------------------------------ To conclude. The Ritz Carlton Dorado prides itself as being "ultra luxury', and what separates it from other resorts is the level of service. Sadly this was the area at which Dorado and Ritz failed us. Out of the dozens of hotels and resorts around the world we contacted, Dorado was easily the least friendly, the least responsive, the least prepared, and the least professional. The Dorado Beach Resort had the absolute worst service we had experienced compared to all others. The differences between Rachel, and what other catering/sales managers at other properties including other Ritz Carlton properties were astounding. Everyone else was attentive. responsive, and pleasant. Other managers made us feel as though our business was wanted, and appreciated, as well as making us feel as though we were going to be treated with respect, and special as this was our once in a lifetime engagements. The hotel and Marriott management have failed to correct many ongoing problems we noticed from our experience and many others based on reviews on Tripadvisor. What is evident is that Mariott and Dorado only care about the money, the nightly rates continue to skyrocket as the level of service continues to drop. It was obvious through dealing with the catering department that Rachel does not seem to be accustomed to talking to the actual customers "bride and groom' yet is more comfortable talking to wedding planners. Overall Ritz Carlton Dorado has made us feel less than, that we were not worth responding too, that our money was not green enough, and that simply the Resort and Employees were hoping we just disappeared and went away. This has easily been the worst treatment we have received thus far. This is one case where the dollar amount at the resort did not match the quality and level of service we received. COVID is not an excuse or reason to be treated so poorly, we understand all the struggles the industry has encountered, however Dorado is not the only one to experience setbacks. ALL other resorts were able to provide excellent service while under similar circumstances. We hope to hear from you regarding this issue. For reference Rafael in Guest Services and Michelle at the Concierge team, and the operator were the people we had expressed our issues in the middle of everything going on. We always asked for a manager yet never was able to talk to one until the last ditch effort.

The Ritz Reserve properties are a luxury category all their own. If you want an intimate personalized vacation, the Dorado Beach location is the spot. The staff goes above and beyond to make your experience there special. The concierge was lovely in prearranging our dinner reservations and spa appointments prior to arrival. And, while there, all members of the staff are welcoming and look for opportunities to personalize the experience. For example, I mentioned to the bartender that my cocktail would be the perfect drink for a bubble bath at the end of the day. The following night, when we arrived back from dinner, we had two of these cocktails, a charcuterie board and a rose filled bubble bath awaiting us. And, the best part was the handwritten note from the bartender and hostess. The staff at this resort truly makes your vacation magical. When looking at the room types, the West Beach location is ideal as it is close to all restaurants and the market place. The plunge pool rooms are worth the extra money especially if there for the week and, the outdoor showers are incredible!! Building 2 is the most intimate as the others do have a walking path used by guests and staff…although that never prevented us from sitting on our patio drinking coffee in our robes. All rooms are immaculate! Typically on a beach vacation there is some degree of sand on the tile floors…not here!! Although there is room service, we thoroughly enjoyed grabbing our coffee and a small muffin in the concierge lounge each morning and lunch was often a delicious bite from the market place. All three restaurants are wonderful with their own flair. Words and photos cannot capture this resorts beauty. It is truly a resort that needs to be experienced to know it’s worth.

The Dorado Beach Reserve is a top notch resort. If you are looking for a luxurious and relaxing vacation, this is the spot! We visitied in April, June, July, and August 2021. Things we love about it: private plunge pools, quiet beaches, bike paths, the Spa (absolutely gorgeous!), COA restaurant, ENCANTO, the live music at night at the COA bar, and the Kitchen especially the Chefs table breakfast on weekends. Most of all, we love the relaxed nature here. Yes, in general, people in Puerto Rico including the staff are on "island time." You must accept this before coming here because it's all part of the true relaxation that you will feel if you can just let go of the fact that no one is checking on you repeatedly all day long. In fact, I think the resort prides itself on letting families do their own thing. We have found that although there are sometimes long waits, that the staff is still always accommodating and does anything they can to make your stay special. But again, don't expect your request for something to be tended to within a few minutes. The resort is large and spread out and everything takes time, especially food and beverage delivery to the beach and suites. So go and enjoy the beauty, serenity, and all the resort has to offer but please be kind and patient with the staff. I'd like to specifically give accolades to Elemento Photography, who did our family's professional photoshoot while we were there in August. I can't say enough how amazing these photos came out. We all look like models and the lighting was so perfect--the photos took years off my husband and I. ;) The photographer was kind and accomodating and we received our beautiful photos the very next day. Highly recommend!!
