A four star Marriott property. The staff were super friendly and the property is beautiful. During the time I was there, the hotel was at 100%. My only complaint (this is NOT the hotel's fault) is the view of the city overlooking Ashford Avenue which is overrun with terrible buildings and people begging on the street. If you can get a room away from the street, I would highly recommend the La Concha. Posted by a Lifetime Titanium guest
This hotel is a disaster. The rooms are dirty. The staff is unhelpful and disrespectful. My wife and I booked a suite with an ocean view for our family of four. We spent the beginning of the week at El Conquistador in Fajardo but wanted to explore San Juan before leaving so we arranged to stay for two nights at La Concha with our two small children. While La Concha was a huge disappointment following the stay at El Conquistador, we were willing to overlook dirty floors, unpatched holes in walls, etc. with the understanding that this was simply a different level of property. However, what I am not willing to overlook is outrageous behavior from hotel management. After making two verbal requests and five telephonic requests over several hours, we were finally able to get someone from housekeeping to provide bedding for the pullout sofa for our boys at 10:30 p.m. so that they could finally go to sleep. In the last in-person request for bedding, my wife was yelled at in the lobby by Manager-On-Duty David Flores. She returned to the room visibly upset by the exchange so I went to the front desk to speak with Mr. Flores. I asked for Mr. Flores and asked him about his exchange with my wife. I was greeted with the same hostility including him raising his voice at me in the lobby. I am a Marriott Bonvoy Rewards member and I have never encountered anything like this at any Marriott or other property. We are moving to another hotel tomorrow because my wife and I are not comfortable staying here. I would encourage others to stay away.…
When we arrived, the smell of cigarette smoke wafting into the lobby from the driveway of the hotel should have been a sign that this was not a great hotel. However, I checked in and had a friendly experience with the bellman and the gentleman at the front desk. One of the requests I made upon check-in was that the sofa bed be made up for our two children, who would be sleeping there. We reserved a one-bedroom oceanfront suite and I assumed the room would be at least pretty decent. On first glance the room appeared modern and tidy, but upon further inspection I realized it was not very clean (I didn’t feel comfortable walking on the floor without wearing shoes, and no slippers were provided). There was also a lightbulb out in the main lamp in the sitting area, which made the room dark and uninviting. When we returned from dinner I saw that the sofa bed was not turned down, so I called the front desk to request this service. After 30min passed and no one came, I called again. This person was very apologetic and reassured me that the head of housekeeping was being notified and would be coming right away. Another 30 min later, nothing. I asked my husband to go down and check at the front desk (I wanted to stay with the kids in the room in case someone came and needed help getting the bed ready). The front desk told my husband that housekeeping reported they were physically in our room at that moment. He called my cell phone and I let him know that no one in fact was there. Shortly afterwards, housekeeping arrived and handed my husband two pillows, a sheet and a blanket. There was no offer to help make up the bed. The guy left so fast I assumed he was coming right back with additional linens. He was gone. At this point I went to the front desk and asked to speak with the front desk manager. I knew Janissa Colon wasn’t going to be helpful by the aggressive way she waltzed out from the back office to approach me. I asked her if she knew why I was there, and she responded that she understood we were trying to get the sofa bed made up and that it was taking a long time. I asked her what could be done to resolve the situation as it was now 10:30pm and far past the bedtime of my children. She said that she was speaking with the head of housekeeping to see if someone could return to the room to make the bed. I asked her if she could guarantee that it be done quickly as the kids really needed to go to sleep. She said it was out of her hands and that all she could do was talk to the head of housekeeping. I commented that if I was the manager on duty and a guest had been waiting for over an hour I would go up and make the bed myself. She continued to have an attitude with me so I told her that the hotel had poor customer service. At that point she told me she couldn’t help me any further. Finally, a man emerged from the office, who later identified himself as the manager of the hotel “for the night.” His name is David Flores. His first order of business was NOT to resolve the situation or find out how he could help, but to tell me that I had somehow done something wrong by suggesting that there was an issue with customer service. When I asked for his name and hers, he refused to give it to me and instructed the other front desk staff not to write it down either. Ultimately, Janissa gave me both their names and I went back to my room, physically shaking. I called my husband from the lobby and he said he ended up helping the housekeeping staff member to make the bed. I was relieved that it was finally done, but given the large body habitus of the manager (David), and the way he spoke to me, I felt quite threatened and wanted to get out of the hotel as quickly as possible. My husband went back to the front desk to speak with David as he could see how upset I was when I returned to our room. He was also yelled at in the middle of the lobby by David. I promptly booked another, nicer, nearby hotel and we will be checking in there tomorrow. I will likely have to lose the money we paid for the rest of our stay, but honestly I can’t wait to get out of here and take my family someplace else, where we feel safe and I feel like I can actually walk barefoot from my bed to the bathroom without wearing shoes. The 4.5 stars on Trip Advisor was definitely misleading and I hope my review will help other families to make a better choice when booking their hotels.…
The beginning of our stay at the La Concha was okay although the rooms definitely need an upgrade. We had three rooms and all were in the Suite Tower. Our interactions with the staff were fine and most were pleasant. All that changed when our daughter, who is handicapped discovered a roach in her room at 11:30 PM. I immediately phoned the front desk and that is when the inconsistencies in what we were told began. Our daughter was switched to another room on a different floor that night. Someone came up to give her the new key card to the room and then left! They did not stay to help us move her belongings up four floors to the new room. We had to do it ourselves at midnight. Being handicapped made this all the more difficult for her! They put her in a room with a tub instead of walk-in shower. The tub was much higher than a normal tub, and being handicapped she could not get in and out of it. When we brought this up to the staff the next morning, they offered us two rooms with a walk in shower however, one of the rooms they offered was her old room that had the roach! We did not take the other room as our daughter had enough difficulty moving to a new room and did not feel she could handle moving to another room again. We were told that the old room (Room 551) was to be fumigated immediately. Obviously that was not the case as there was a new guest in that room in less than 24 hours and they offered it back to my daughter literally 9 hours after she left the room! When I brought this up to the front desk, a different manager told me that they never fumigate the rooms immediately when they see bugs. They have a schedule and that's when it's done! More inconsistencies among the staff!!! We asked for a mat for the tub just in case we could help our daughter in to the tub and never received one. We told the front desk we would call when she was awake so they could deliver the tub mat and a lounge chair that was promised for her balcony. We called several times - never received either item the entire rest of the time we were there! We were also told by one manager there was no problem with getting a lounge chair, another said no and a third said they could do it. We asked the front desk not to call or knock on our daughter's door the day after the move as she was tired from the move and had difficulty falling asleep due to what happened. They called the room and woke her! It appears like the front desk staff is not well trained considering we continually got different stories from different staff managers and staff. Again inconsistencies! We asked the staff for someone to apologize to our daughter for the call that woke her and the desk manager apologized to me. I told him I would like him to apologize to her and he never did as he was the one who called. He could have even just sent a note to her room! We were not asking for anything more than an apology. The roaches were able to get into the walls because in all rooms that we had, the carpet, in some areas, does not go under the woodwork. There are spaces between the end of the carpet and woodwork. My daughter actually saw the roach go right into one of those spaces. If there is one roach there are definitely more living in those areas. While I understand roaches are common in Puerto Rico, a four to five star hotel should do everything possible to make sure they do not show up in a guest's room. Fixing the carpet so it is tight would be a start! We have stayed in other hotels in Puerto Rico and never experienced any bugs let alone a roach! When I first called the front desk about this I was told that roaches are coming out because it's hot in Puerto Rico now! I just laughed and told her that as far as I know it's always hot in Puerto Rico. She did not reply back! As for the pool area, it was lovely. We have no complaints with that at all and the service at the pool restaurants and bars was fine. The staff was lovely and did everything they could to accommodate the guests. While we understand the incident we had with the roach is not common, the way it was handled and the inconsistencies by the staff is not acceptable! We have stayed in a lot of Marriott hotels throughout the years and never experienced staff as untrained as the staff at La Concha! With all the different information we received, we felt like we were being lied to by the staff and honestly did not know who to believe! We have also stayed at Marriott hotels on other Caribbean islands and have never experienced bugs in our rooms! We really expect more from a Marriott hotel! …
We had an incredible experience at this hotel after getting of the Norwegian Epic. We had requested an early check in and the front desk managed to have us in our room by noon. We enjoyed the pool, Jose brought us lunch and awesome drinks on the pool deck. Our food was delicious, the beer was cold and my drink was yummy! The pool was busy but very clean. Love the lobby for waiting for our room, it is large and accommodating, very comfortable. The beds were very comfortable, our view was amazing of the ocean and Old San Juan, the beach below was busy, we had no interest. There is a lot of seaweed. The pools are wonderful though. We left at 5 am and our flight ended up being canceled. The front desk even allowed us to come back and make use of our room! Enjoyed a very expensive but good breakfast at The Loft Beach Front. Overall, great experience, very clean room, very comfortable beds and great accommodations! Once again, credit to the front desk for being so wonderful to our family!…
Compensation does not make up for a ruined trip; the stress of the state of my room; hours of calls to the front desk; missing Catholic mass and having to reschedule mass and dinner plans that evening because the batteries on the lock died; spending over 45 minute at the front desk with the hotel employees trying to find a room that comes without a desk and chair on the website...my room did not come with either but was advertising as coming with both; a broken room phone; a broken TV; room not cleaned so manager supposedly put my room on a cleaning schedule but it was NEVER ONCE cleaned according to the agreed upon time on the schedule; ordering room service (a cold peice of pie), waiting 45 minutes, pie never arrives, call room service, told 10 more minutes, then canceling order; several promises to call me back about issues with the room and failure to call back; and I'm sure there are other things I am forgetting... I dont care if the hotel paid me $1000 compensation for my stay (which they did not, they paid A FRACTION of a one night stay to make up for their countless blunders). This does not make up for 9 nights of hell at this godforsaken place. What a disaster!…
Lets start with the pros...Pools and proximity to the beach is great. Very walkable to places to eat. The rooms are clean. Now to the cons which to me outweigh the pros... The hotel is very dated and not modern. The service by the pool was very slow and staff was not very attentive. Stayed in a city view suite on the 10th floor and it was the LOUDEST room I have ever spent a night in and this is coming from someone who was born in and still lives in NYC!!! If you're looking to sleep while you're on vacation, then this is NOT the hotel for you. If you don't care and can sleep through anything then knock yourself out. Thank GOD I only spent one night here
The Resort is beautiful and the restaurant Solera Bar was AMAZING!! Our bartender Alfredo Santos had us in Pina Colada heaven!!!! He makes the best drinks ever and the steak was mouth watering!!!!! Omg we can’t wait to come back!!
Recently spent 4 days at La Concha with my husband and were disappointed with how poorly beach was maintained. There is a tremendous amount of seaweed along the entire beach which attracts sand flies. It was quite gross. We had stayed at this resort in 2019 and the shore line was pristine. When we asked management why seaweed was not combed daily their response was “it is the government’s responsibility to maintain all beaches in Puerto Rico”. While it may be a municipal issue the hotel management has a responsibility to their clients who are spending quite a bit of money to stay at their establishment. Maybe Marriot Bonvoy should hire more staff who can comb shoreline daily. It’s a shame we couldn’t fully enjoy our stay in the beach.
This hotel is about 15 minutes from the airport and located on a very noisy buy central tourist strip. There are tons of restaurants, bars, pharmacies etc. so you won’t be bored whatsoever. The hotel lobby smells immaculate and the staff are attentive and kind. The food at the resort is wonderful and the drinks are delicious. The main pools are CHILLY and filled with kids. Only the adult pool is heated but the sun is minimal because the buildings block the sun in the adult area. Food and drinks are EXPENSIVE! So be prepared for a high bill when you leave as they also add the daily resort fee to your final bill. Drinks range from $18+. A half pitcher of sangria is $60! The beach is easily accessible from the pool areas and chairs are available for guests but be prepared to just sit on the beach because the water is ROUGH. Ubers are cheap in PR compared to major cities and the location is walkable to a lot of places. So if you’re okay with noise, have a healthy budget and need a clean place to stay while you’re in PR, this is the place for you.…
