The Tryst Beachfront Hotel boasts a prime location with direct beach access that garners appreciation from guests, as well as a lively atmosphere with music and events. While many guests commend the cleanliness of the rooms and the friendliness of the staff, some travelers have concerns about the room size, noise levels, and occasional hot water issues. Despite its proximity to local attractions, parking challenges and high costs raise questions about the hotel's overall value.

We got a beach facing room, came with A/C, TV and mini fridge. The bathroom had basic toiletries. We had unlimited access to the beach plus unlimited beach towels for our use. There was also daily housekeeping which was something I sorely missed during this pandemic era. The location was ideally located 15 min from the airport plus they had plenty of awesome and different restaurants in walking distance. Located near multiple beaches. They also had a valet service for your rental car for $20/day which was really convenient and hassle free for us. There are other paid parking lots within the same block as well. There were also Walgreens and CVS within 2 blocks.
The room was also facing a 2nd floor dining area so we had to keep it closed for privacy for most our stay. Also the door was not really sound proof. So when the other guests on our floor got rowdy and slammed their doors it made it really difficult to sleep at night.

Overall experience was good. Right on the beach, great service for umbrellas and chairs whenever we went there. Had drinks at the restaurant which was nice. The food looked amazing but we did not try any. We stayed at the apartments and they were nice and clean with all the base necessities. The beds were not as comfortable and quite small to share for my wife and I. No televisions in the bedroom was a downer and the only TV available makes you sign into the Roku and use your subscriptions to access TV (Netfllx, Prime Video, Hulu) which didn't always work and if you don't have these subscriptions you cant use the tv. Wish someone would have told us that maid/turn down service was only available if you ask for it a day in advance. We didn't find out until our last two nights and by then we didn't need it, however, the front desk was more than helpful providing new towels for shower. Also no one let us know about the new curfew which meant our first night we were running around trying to find food at 8pm and make it indoors before 9pm.

Dear S.N.Y., Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us. We strive to provide our guests with the best possible experience and take all comments seriously in order to improve the areas where is needed. We are glad you enjoyed our great location right on the beach, and the nice apartment you occupied. Also, we would like to take this opportunity to apologize for the challenges you faced using our ROKU TV. While it is true you need to have your own subscription in order to use premium services such as Netflix, Hullu, Prime Video, etc., We also offer the Roku Channel, available in all Roku TVs, which is a service offered free of charge and includes many classic movies and series. Due to the present situation of the COVID-19 Pandemic in the world, housekeeping service during guests stay is only offered on a "Per Guest Request Only" basis in order to limit contact. Thanks again for your honest feedback.

I very much enjoyed my half-week at the Tryst Hotel. I found the staff there to be exceptionally friendly and attentive. The room was very comfortable. I would suggest you placing paper cups in each room so residents can use for refreshment as well as for brushing teeth. The location was outstanding. Very nice that you supplied towels, chairs and umbrellas. I plan to come back again soon, next time with my family. Thank you again for a great experience.

The Pros: The staff was super friendly and helpful. They immediately helped with my requests. The location is amazing. The hotel is right on the beach. They have free beach chairs, towels and umbrellas for hotel guests. It is also located right next to a lot of good restaurants and things to do (i.e. Walgreens, restaurants, excursion booking place, etc all within very easy walking distance.) While other reviewers have stated construction noise, I did not experience that myself (but I was staying from Friday to Sunday morning, so perhaps they weren't working then.)

The Cons: The rooms are small (at least the one I booked). For me that was outweighed by the price and location. The hotel is under construction and will become the Tryst hotel, so while my room was pretty badly in need of repairs and updates, I assume that will be resolved in the future. During the construction I did find that many things didn't work (lock on window, water would turn off from time to time, elevator was out of commission, bathroom door didn't close all the way, etc). I could live with all of that, but the big thing that would keep me from booking this hotel again is that they constructed a restaurant / bar right outside the rooms on the back side of the hotel. The upper level of the bar is immediately outside the window for room 211. While that room certainly had it the worst, it was exceptionally loud and could easily be heard through other areas of the hotel. On Friday night I could put in earplugs and sleep around midnight, but Saturday night the party went until about 2 am and earplugs were not sufficient. Noise also travels very easily from room to room inside the hotel through the doors. For that reason, I would not book this hotel again. Hopefully the hotel decides to do something different with room 211 in the future because it really doesn't have privacy and the noise is too substantial for at least that room to be used as a hotel room. At a minimum, people booking should know what they are getting into before hand. I would recommend requesting not getting room 211. If noise is a concern for you, I would not recommend this hotel. If you are likely to be out until 2am anyway and don't mind smaller rooms with little thrills, then this may work well for you.

Dear chrise635, thank you for your comments and rating. I am pleased to read you enjoyed our warm customer service, great beachfront location and complimentary lounge chairs and umbrellas on the beach. Regarding room size, I would like to bring to your attention the fact that this vintage hotel was designed in the 50's and the room size reflects the design style of that era. Additionally, we offer rooms on different categories with different sizes. As you were able to observe during your recent stay, remodeling of the hotel lobby, restaurant and terrace have been completed and the restaurant is open to the general public. During the time period of your visit we were holding some private events in the restaurant area. Loud music is not common nor is it an every day occurrence. Now we are in the process of remodeling our elevator and hotel rooms. This beautiful remodel includes many improvements to the building, redesigned rooms (including new furniture), complete elevator modernization and all air conditioning systems (individually controlled units) among other amenities and surprises. We hope that you give us a second chance and visit us again in the near future and be a witness to our big transformation!

I booked online for a rate of $209/p/night. Granted this small hotel is on the Condado, where there’s a lot of nightlife and restaurants, I was very dissatisfied with the service at this hotel. Upon check-in I waited approximately 15 minutes before anyone came to the desk to assist me.
When I requested maid service (along with 2 bottles of water to be left in the room), I am still waiting for that request to be filled!
I got nightly texts from the headquarters in California, stating that they were happy to have me as a guest, and that if I needed anything to respond to the text. I did respond to the text, but have yet to be answered.
In addition, there were several times I went to the front desk, only to wait 15 or 20 minutes before anyone came.
Upon checkout my bill reflected a different rate every night. I understand that the taxes are high in Puerto Rico, but my nightly charge reflected charges from $166+ tax to $325+ tax!!!
When I questioned the excessive charge I was told that ‘the rate changes every night.’ My response to that was, ‘why wasn’t that explained when I booked on line for $209/including tax?’ It wasn’t explained upon checkin either. If I would have know about the excessive charges beforehand, I would have booked at the Caribe Hilton, where I have previously stayed being a Hilton Honors Member.
I would advise anyone considering booking at The Tryst Beachfront Hotel in San Juan to book elsewhere!

We had the misfortune of staying at The Tryst over the window of spring break. The hotel was noisy at all hours, with drunk college girls crawling around in the hallways at 2am and couples congregating in the stairwell smoking weed. We had to keep the TV on for most of the night to drown out the sound. The first night, the onsite bar the Wicked Lily was closed for a private party, with a DJ that blasted music into all the beachfront rooms until 11:30pm. The following night, we were also turned away.

You could tell that the hotel has had a slight facelift--some furnishings in the rooms had been overhauled, a new restaurant/bar was installed, etc., but its age was still showing in some places (like the bathrooms, which had sinks and vanities straight out of the 1980s or before). Services and amenities are few, and the beach out front is notoriously dangerous (with annual drownings in the dozens) so to avoid a sinister yet vomit-tinged Ft. Lauderdale spring break feel, please do yourself a favor and book into a classier type of establishment.

Don't let all the 5 star reviews from bots fool you!

I stayed un two diferent rooms in this hotel. On the first room on the 4th floor, the bathroom was so small I could not even stand in front it the faucet. There was broken floor tiles covered by a carpet. And the shower was always running cold water for like 10-15 min before it got warm.
On the second room in the 3rd floor the bathroom was a few inches bigger. That bathroom had black mold. And the water would not drain fast enough They both only offer tv by using my own streaming services. I would give them a 2 or 3 star ⭐ out of 5.
Besides that the service was ok.

Dear Rayrick385, thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review. We want to apologize for the bad experience you had. The front desk did everything it was in their power to accommodate your needs and we are sorry we fail to do so. We are taking your comments seriously and in fact, we have a team checking the bathrooms, water pressure, and condition of the first room you stayed in. About the tv, we apologized if the system that our TVs use was not well explained. We are glad you appreciate the service. Thank you so much for mentioning that. Saludos Enormes!

The place was not what it was perceived through pics and representation. The room was tiny, cheaply decorated, and cramped.. ours was right beside the bar patio that people could see into even with double blinds(no blackout curtains) and music was crazy loud. Slept with my earphones in so i could rest at least a bit before my early flight.. there was NOTHING expected in the room as a travel alot.. no towels, coffee maker, liner for ice bucket, cups for water, or sheets or blankets as i had paid for a better room with a pullout so me and my son could have our own beds. Disappointed with the rough futon and bad ambiance but i went down to the desk attendent after our great dinner elsewhere and asked for the things we needed. He said it the towels and blankets should be there, i assured they were not he comes back with a towel and a bathmat and a rough blanket.. i said can i have some sheets please bc i need something to sleep on bc the couch/futon is pretty hard and he said well it's gonna be awhile.. umm ok i guess ill wait.. then he comes back a few minutes later with sheets and said i was lucky... Cool i guess.. then i asked can i just get those cups so we can drink some water for the night.. he was like can you just tell me what else you need right now😩 umm no thats it sir just the basics to sleep shower and hydrate.. still trying to be nice as im In the customer service industry and then i asked if there was an ice machine on our floor bc we had brought water and told us no we have to come all the way down through the lobby and walk outside to the bar to get ice of we wanted it ughh..would def not recommend..there are amazing hotels right across the bridge which we stayed at previously i just thought this was a privately owned hotel and was trying to support..but if you want any peace or decent customer service i would stay away (also on the website i booked it said parking included..it was not..you have to reverse a whole block and then pay to have it valeted which means hurry up and get everything you need or want out of the car stat bc theyre taking the keys and theres a line)

I would NOT recommend this hotel to ANYONE!!! Our stay was absolutely AWFUL! When we arrived, we were advised that the elevators were not working so we would have to carry our luggage up the stairs. This was not an issue to us at the beginning as we had just traveled over 17 hours and were absolutely exhausted. We were then woken up before 7am with sledge hammers and other heavy power tools blasting away on the roof and right outside our room. Electrical cords were hanging out of the room beside us along with garbage bags lining the hallway. When we went to have a shower, we had no hot water. When we went to speak to the front desk clerk, Tony advised us that the manager would be in at 9am to address our concerns. Well... 9am came, 11am came and 1pm came and there were no signs of the manager. We were then advised by Tony that the manager would only be available by e-mail and that’s how we could address our concerns. We e-mailed the manager (who knew we were contacting them) and there was absolutely no response! We have never experienced this type of service before. It’s awful to know that this hotel is charging guests FULL price for the amenities that they advertise are available that are not. Not once did we receive any e-mail or notification that the hotel is under a massive renovation that would begin before 7am and the amenities offered are not available. Even their website and other websites did not advise guests that the renovation was underway. Please save your money and DO NOT stay at this hotel. The location is not worth it!!!

Hola Stephanie. We can see in your review the strong feeling you had about your stay and how you think now about The Tryst. I am so sorry to know you went through that experience. So many things seem went wrong and I can not even put into words how sad it makes us feel. We value one and each of our customers and you are one of them. We are working as hard as we can to provide quality service and to make sure that all of our guests have an amazing stay. Words won't make a difference but I have to say that it is true that the hotel was changing ownership and was going to a very intensive process of renovation. I am not writing to justify what happened or to try to make change your mind; your point of view is valid and I respect your review. Nevertheless, I do hope you can give us a chance and that you can come back and experience the new Tryst.

The Tryst is in a great location, has beach access, and offered an amazing view from the room if you choose a beach view room. The customer service was amazing and their are a ton of great restaurants nearby. I asked a million questions and had all my requests accommodated in a timely manner. One thing I will say is if you are the type of traveler who spends most of your time at the hotel/resort, there are other (more expensive) places that would have more amenities like pools and spas but if you are just looking for a good value for a room to sleep that is nestled in an amazing location between great restaurants and a quick Uber to Old San Juan, the Tryst is your place!
