I booked this hotel after reading some of the bad review, some of which were earthquake related (hello trip insurance!). The price I got online with 60-70 percent less than the nearby Marriott properties. This place was worth every penny. No this is not a 4 star hotel if you want luxury then blow your money at the Marriott but this place was a $10 uber ride from the airport and a 1 minute walk to the beach. The hotel is across the street from several dining options and a grocery store. The room was very basic but it has everything you need. They have a common area kitchen with a fridge if you want to buy something to keep cold, tea and coffee machine. I'd absolutely stay here again for the money you save vs the larger hotels you can buy whatever you need for your room!
Canario Boutique Hotel is in an excellent location. It was a quick trip from both airports. It is only a short walk to the beach. The room was clean and quiet. The staff was very nice and helpful. There are many restaurants in walking distance. We never saw any evidence of damage from the earthquake. It is on the other side of the island from San Juan. This is the perfect hotel for a budget conscious group that wants to be waking distance from things.
We were lead to room 103 after a long day of traveling. Upon entering the room, we were told by staff front desk representative that the ”cable was out, and there’s nothing we can do about it, contact the manager at 3 pm.” She left closing the door, seeming unhelpful or willing to find any solution. In other words, we felt as if she said, Take it as is and don’t complain. However not once was I informed of this before accepting my credit card for a $155.00 payment. Among entering the rooms before I could even begin to unwind and unpack, my mother and I felt the disgust and lack of maintenance of cleanliness in the room. It was congested with dust as seen in photos. My mother who suffers from COPD alerted Kei at the beginning before checking in of this, and were assured the rooms were clean and that the ac worked fine. When I entered the bathroom, I noticed hairs all over the floor right away and towels that were stained with yellow spots (urine) Come to my attention, I then noticed the toiled was covered in old urine full of hairs, and dirt and dust. We alerted kei right away who then contacted Daniela for mainetence. Daniele (housekeeper) who came in with a dirty mop began screaming at me in Spanish saying “Donde diablos quieres que limpie.” Little did she know my mother spoke Spanish and understood. I then showed her with a tissue and wiped the floor showing her the dirt, flith, and urine, and she took one stroke with the mop and left again screaming calling me “Bendejo”. The whole time, she was so aggressive, we felt one of us were going to get hit with the mop. Not once did she even care to look at the toilet, and many other parts of the room that needed to be addressed. My mother told me that instant she felt unsafe. At that point, in a health hazard, and hostile environment my mother and I decided to leave the room after being in it for less than 15 minutes to wait in the hallway and find other accommodations. We waited 2.5 hours to speak to manager Pablo del Valle to alert him of these issues, as his reaction was speechless, but assured we didn’t know hostile situations because we had not been in war as he has served in the military. We assured our guards were up with the antagonistic maid and felt we had to be ready to defend ourselves. He nodded with his head that he’s had issues with her. I did alert him I am insisting on a full refund and will have to alert my credit card company, even though it was stated no money back on Agoda.com. We truly lost one day on vacation. Agoda.com also never advertised that this hotel did not have an elevator which was difficult for my mother. We heard other guest addressing this…
We booked 1 night at the Canario Boutique Hotel in San Juan while there had been earthquakes, water outage and a state of emergency declared by the governor so we were hoping to cancel our reservation and receive a refund. The seismic activity was in the southwest where we would be spending most of our trip and, although the hotel is in San Juan, the concern was obviously with our safety. The Canario hotel never picked up the phone so we could explain the reason for the cancellation and showed no sensibility to our situation on emails. We were able to get a refund from airlines, car rental and other hotels as they all have policies that accommodated our request in this difficult and dangerous time. Also based on the other reviews, it seems the Canario Hotel is confirmed to be bad in customer service. Please stay away from this establishment and save yourself from troubles and headache.…
Remember that if you're given a non-refundable rate (via Booking.com, etc.) you are locked in with this hotel. Even if there is an earthquake during your trip and you check out a day early... even if Booking.com is more than willing to refund your money under the circumstances, you will likely not get a refund from the property manager. Just keep this in mind when weighing your options. Location is good and staff are helpful. Accommodations are budget price & quality. There's a shared kitchen with a microwave and refrigerator. Rooms have AC except for the bathroom which has a window. Clean towels are available every day if you ask. Sheets arent changed every day, so if needed you will want to ask. Hotel is not on the beach but not far. If you rent a car you can look for a spot to park on the street for free or park for 25+ dollars a day at the Marriott.…
