Nestled in a prime beachfront location near Old San Juan, the Caribe Hilton Hotel offers stunning views and a tranquil setting that many guests adore. While the beach and pools are highlights, some reviewers have voiced concerns about the hotel's amenities, citing additional fees and service inconsistencies. Room cleanliness receives mixed reviews, with acknowledgments of well-kept areas alongside calls for updates and better housekeeping.
The hotel's atmosphere is generally appreciated, although occasional loud music can be disruptive. Travelers often find the hotel's value questionable, due to hidden costs and pricey dining.

Hotel's Favorite
We booked this hotel the day before as part of a last-minute change in plans. This was our first time in PR and we wanted a hotel that included both a pool and beach access on-site and this provided both. Be aware that some taxis from the airport only accept cash, other will take credit card or Venmo. Uber tends to be cheaper, but the pick-up location may be a far walk depending on your arrival terminal. Firstly, yes, some areas of the resort are dated and in need of updating and this is not a 5-star resort. However, it is clean and modern and all of the staff we encountered were very nice. We stayed in the Wave Tower section and the room and bathroom were very large and comfortable. Our flight arrived on Sunday at noon, so there was no line/wait for check-in and the room was ready when we arrived. We did see at other dates and times longer lines for check-in. The open-air lobby also features a Starbucks, several retail shops, an ice cream parlor, 4 restaurants and a large lobby bar. Prices in the shops were very expensive/overpriced. The same bottle of sunscreen that was $49 in the hotel gift shop was $16.99 at the Tropical Coffee convenience store (more on this later) just outside the hotel entrance. The beach was small and protected by a break wall, but did have a good area to swim and even snorkel. The chairs at the beach and pool need replacing. Most of the chairs were claimed by 7:00 AM, so if you want a specific spot, you do need to get up early and mark your territory. There was a daily breakfast buffet, which often had a long line/wait. We did not eat here, but rather across the street at the Tropical Coffee. They had great food - the breakfast sandwiches and coffee were good and cheap! They also sell beer/liquor and snacks, souvenirs that are a fraction of the hotel shops. We did eat lunch one day at the pool bar. Tables are limited, so the wait can be long for average, pricey food. We also ate dinner at Lola's/Rustica, a combination Italian/Puerto Rican restaurant and one night at Mojito's. Food and service were excellent at both places. Mojito's has outdoor seating and the paella was very good. Uber is available at the hotel and it is a $6 and 4 minute ride into Old San Juan (del Morro) and around 10-12 minutes to the airport ($16). We definitely enjoyed our stay and found most of the negative reviews to be either exaggerations or unfortunate and isolated incidents.

We love Puerto Rico. We had obvious concerns due to CoVid but have to say as far as precautions, cleanliness and social distancing measures, we were pretty pleased with what they did. We know Caribe Hilton was a pretty reputable hotel so we booked with some degree of confidence. We arrived on opening night (hotel had been closed since Hurricane Maria) and were given a very brief welcome to the property... nothing really informative regarding the measures they were putting in place or what was available to us during our stay... we learned as we went along. There were some understandable issues with the systems they were trying out/using to sign up for beach and pool amenities but the staff were typically helpful and patient in helping get it addressed, especially Miguel & William.
Our room had to be switched because the glaze in the tub cracked and some jagged pieces were on the floor of the tub. We pushed the night table forward to eat some food we ordered from one of the two restaurants open that night (we couldn’t get a table or order food without at least a 40 minute wait) and saw a lot of dust build up on the back ledge of the table. On opening night, neither of these should have been a thing. When we moved into a new room the next morning, the light fixture fell and the bulb shattered 😑.
Before our arrival we took the time to go on the hotel website to familiarize ourselves with the place. We recognized the hotel’s general manager from the video and greeted him as he walked by. He didn’t seem particularly warm or welcoming and never asked how our stay was so far (it is now the first morning after hotel guests have checked in on opening night) or if there was anything they could do to make our stay more enjoyable... instead he just uttered a quick pleasantry, didn’t stop to really take an interest in our answer and moved on (and repeat the same interaction the next day when we saw him except this time he didn’t bother to stop as he said hello). We weren’t looking for any special treatment but would think that there would be much more attention and hospitality given these circumstances.
Only other oddity was the rearrangement of one of the lounging beach chairs away from its mapped out location and placed right in front of the pool ladder, blocking the entry/exit and creating an unfavorable situation with social distancing. We didn’t see anyone really wiping down the pool handrails, sanitizing lounge chairs between guests or buttons in the elevators. These security/safety measures should have been visibly obvious and in place throughout our entire stay (5 days 4 nights).
We were, as a whole, pretty underwhelmed by our stay and think we probably would have had a similar stay in a much more affordable and less known hotel.

visit caribe hilton for my wife 50th birthday surprise celebration. I chose this hotel over others in san Juan due to the resort layout, price that I got through Costco which was a whole lot less than Hilton sites and all the other travel sites and being a hilton brand. I was amazed about the hotel lobby and the grounds of the hotel was beautiful and well kept but when we got to our room, that's whole another story. the first room bath tub had peeling paint, black mold around the tub and sink, mirror light had rust, floors were worn down but was a little okay with. my wife was upset so we ask to be change to.another room which was a lil better but had condensation stains on the wall... I feel hilton could do a better job on the rooms especially following the covid-19 protocol of not letting no on access the room after a guest departs and the got it ready for the next guest. a quick steamer with bleach in the shower area would remove the mold and mildew. now there are some major plus points: we check out and had to check back in for another 2 days due to the airlines rescheduling our flight after arriving to the airport because of storm's in our home state. Caribe was able to accommodate us back into the same room we check out of. would I stay there again? yes! the staff was pretty cool, john pierre was awesome to help accommodate us. you can blame lower staff because upper management should be doing their job by observing the compound, and make sure the property exceeds guest standards by being a hilton no matter its location..

Booked at rate that INCLUDES Resort Fee and Taxes
On check out I asked to see the bill and to my annoyance they had added both Tax and Resort Fee again
Only that, but also included a meal that was not ours at a costs of $88
After showing the confirmation to reception the clerk went away and said that report and taxes are added after the room charge..
In that case the room fee needed to be discounted down (simple maths)
After much of a do, this was finally done
I asked to see the restaurant check ...which was declined as they couldn’t find it...and this was then removed
Resort restaurants here are very expensive, probably due to its location of not having much round the hotel unless you walk to Condado (15mins) or San Juan (45mins)
Hotel offers Steamroom, Jacqussi and Sauna facilities to guests, it’s not until you get there you find there is an additional charge of €35pp for this ...strange it’s not mentioned till you walk over to the spa
Please for your own sake read your bill before check out

The service all around is EXTREMLY slow/awful and everyone we encountered at the hotel was rude. We had to be basically beg people to take our food/drink orders at the beach/pool. The pool and beach waiting staff was virtual non-existent and those who were serving were EXTREMELY rude. We booked this hotel to relax and enjoy our time off but it was just very stressful experience.
We could barely find a seats at the pool, and the staff did not sanitize lounge chairs between guests (again, we had to basically track someone down to sanitize the chairs). People were on top of eachother in the pool area and in the elevators.
Hand sanitizer areas were always empty, especially near the elevators.
The hotel rooms are musty and outdated (no idea what they spent 150million dollars on during their renovations, but it couldn't have been the hotel rooms). Our first room was really musty/dingy, but the eventually moved us.
We also asked to get robes, and champagne glasses sent to our room and they had initially refused stating they didn't offer them due to covid. We had also inquired about what they had for expensive bottles of champagne and the waiter didn't bother to follow up.
Overall, the staff didn't care this was supposed to be a special occasion for us and did not make us feel welcomed.
I have never had this worse of an experience at Hilton. I will not be coming back.

For a Hilton Hotel I was very disappointed. Although the staff were friendly the Hotel was dated and dirty. Rooms are only cleaned upon a 24 hour request, you can also get free water at the desk because none is supplied in the room. Now your going to have to wait in line for the water or clean towels, replacement soap etc. The second option for my convince was to purchase water from any of the shops or the machine located at the end of the hall. The pool was filthy! Not clear water as one would expect but almost a cloudy white color. Good luck trying to get the room that featured in the advertisement. The room we were give were dated with what appeared to be cigarette burns on the furniture, carpeting that not only had a bead oder but was fraying. The night stands and dresser were of the cheapest quality I have ever seen. There was an empty refrigerator in the room and we were supplied the smallest amounts of shampoo, conditioner and soap. Good thing we took your own because a 1/3 or our vacation work have been standing at the front counter waiting for replacement. There is also a coffee pot in the room if you don't mind cleaning up the mess it makes when you make a cup and of course you will need to again wait in line a the front counter for addition coffee , sugar and creamer everyday. The other option is to go to Starbucks and spend $12 for one cup. If you like cold eggs, sausage and potatoes for breakfast than you will be excited about spending $60 at the breakfast buffet. The staff does an excellent job at Custome Care 101, when they are confronted with a problem they will inform you how sorry they are and with inform a member of management and nothing is done. Don't waste your time at Caribe Hilton. Most of your vacation will be spent standing in line at the front counter. But the bright side is they will charge you a resort fee......daily

We’ve stayed in San Juan three times over three years but this was our first stay at the Caribe Hilton based upon their grand reopening excitement. The space is beautiful and the pool layout is fantastic for a family. Outside of that, there was zero special and zero Hilton hospitality we have come to expect which was super disappointing. There was no wait staff at the pool or beach. The restaurants were average. The continental breakfast / hot breakfast was confusing and we were charged differently each day and asked for something different regarding our vouchers depending on the wait staff we had each morning. Two requests for basic items to our rooms were never received (bath towels and coffee for the in room coffee service). Finally, the hotel is packed to the gills with ‘mainland’ US tourists of the most entitled, rude kind. All manner of rudeness happened here that we’ve never experienced at the Intercontinental, the El San Juan, etc. Just one example of many - we watched a mom and her daughter pick up and use someone’s sunblock from their pool chair. It was definitely not theirs or someone’s they were traveling with. They used it, put it back, and said ‘thanks stranger for the sunblock!’ Crazy. If you want a great relaxing San Juan experience with great service, stay at the Intercontinental or the El San Juan! They are our very favorite and our daughter always makes a friend from around the world there!

This was our second time here, last time was two years ago. There was a food court next door at a mall, it is now closed. This caused us to venture further out into Condado, (good thing). This hotel seems to keep employees for a long time so they seem to generally care, all employees seem helpful except the front desk. I do my family’s laundry and the one washing machine broke mid cycle leaving my clothes soaking wet and not clean. Talked to front desk and 4 additional people finally got a bucket to ring them out and get them in the dryer. Eventually took my clothes to Levandariadotcom on Calle Luiza. That is my go to place now.
When you sit at the pool bar restaurant they tell you the kitchen opens at 11:30, it took us this trip to realize they didn’t want to see us until then. Once we adjusted to 11:30 things went much smoother.
Two years ago there was a game room, it was gone this time, I assume due to COVID, hopefully they bring it back when possible.
Housekeeping was very good, even during Christmas and New Year’s Day.
They had outside movie night, this was a very nice touch.
The beach can’t be beat.
The Starbucks finally uses the Starbucks App, but tipping and mobile ordering are not turned on. It is slow due to people ordering more drinks per person than in a usual Starbucks and rookie Starbucks customers not knowing what they are doing.
The store that sells snacks and wine and other things is exorbitantly priced. If you’re staying a while take a cab to SuperMax in Condado, it is definitely worth the cab fare.
Fellow hotel guests would make it an even more enjoyable stay if they used their key card when leaving the room to gently and quietly close their doors. I heard two people on the elevator complaining about how noisy the doors close and they hadn’t figured out how to do this.
Overall I would recommend this Hotel, and would come back.

Diamond member. Upgrade wasn't available as we were told. Arrived around 2:30pm, check in is at 4pm, room wasn't ready, front desk took our number and said they will text us once the room was ready. They never texted, I had to call them myself. While we waited, we ordered one quesadilla, one rum and coke, one mojito and 2 virgin coladas, total bill was $63. Ridiculous. Went to our room in Beach wing, it was filthy. Fingernails on the floor, the carpet was full of nasty trash, wasn't vacuumed at all, tv stand had some weird stains, hair in the bathroom everywhere. After expressing our concerns with the cleanliness the housekeeper and the housekeeping manager showed up and cleaned our room for almost an hour while we were waiting in the hallway. For the inconvenience we were given 10k useless hilton points. The room was next to the elevator, so the whole night you could hear the elevator going up and down. As a diamond 2 guests get a to go box breakfast. It was a small continental breakfast, cereal box, 2 pastries, one fruit, we got rotten banana, choice of juice and coffee. Pool/beach opens at 8am. People form a line to the pool around 735and it wraps around. Once the door is open, you then stand in the other line for your bags to be checked and entered yoir room number in the system. No outside food or drinks are allowed. Then you go to the towel hut and stand in the other line just to get a towel. The chairs are set up in 2 times slots. 8-1:45 and 2-8. In between they are supposed to be cleaned. We showed up at 8am and some tables and chairs had food and lettuce all over it, so didn't look like they were cleaned. We are here for the next 2 days, so far it has not been a pleasant vacation. Too much waiting, long lines everywhere. What a disappointment. Pool is freezing. I am posting photos of the line to the pool at 740am, a few from our room as a diamond member and the nasty room we had.

This hotel finally reopened in July 2019 after being closed for almost two years after Hurricane Maria and we decided to spend a night there to check it out.
It’s somewhat remote compared to the Condado hotels where we usually stay. However, across the street from the Tower building there’s a small mall with a few restaurants and a really nice food hall with a bustling ambiance that offers a lot of dining and drinking options.
On the plus side, the staff at the hotel was friendly. The grounds and rooms were beautiful. In terms of HVAC, the AC in the room was strong but the thermostat made very loud clicking sounds whenever it cycled on and off. Bathroom exhaust was adequate as was the fresh conditioned air in corridors.
On the negative side, the make-up (fresh) air provided directly to guest rooms often smelled of car and diesel exhaust or cooking grease which created unpleasant odors in the room.
We found the pool areas to be very crowded and the beach area was an unusual shape. We thought it was not nearly as nice as the beaches at the Condado hotels.
As an engineer I noticed a few potential safety issues and when I took a more in-depth look around, I was shocked with what I found. Many fire exit doors had broken or missing latching hardware, there was non-metallic high voltage wiring run in a very unsafe manner in a fire exit stair, and the one breaker panel I looked at was missing its “dead front” cover (so someone resetting a breaker could get a potentially fatal shock). Last but not least, the fire alarm system showed a lot of outstanding trouble indications. I've attached a couple photos of these hazards.
Since I observed all this during a quick walk around the place, I expect that a more thorough inspection would uncover a lot more hazards.
I’m surprised and disappointed that after a supposed $100 million renovation there are so many dangerous conditions here. It seems the renovation was purely cosmetic. I would not stay here again as guest and staff safety is clearly not a priority for hotel management.

I’m surprised and disappointed that after a supposed $100 million renovation there are so many dangerous conditions here. It seems the renovation was purely cosmetic. I would not stay here again as guest and staff safety is clearly not a priority for hotel management.
