I am so disappointed in this hotel's administration! I was eager to stay here for my honeymoon and made my reservation with great anticipation. I made the reservation in early September for 2 nights, from December 26 to December 28. When I made the reservation I was told over the phone that because I called in advance, I qualified for the Early Bird discount which allowed me to reserve any bedroom that I wanted for the price of the cheaper bedrooms. Of course I said yes! For two nights I was supposed to pay $341.09 in total. But No! Instead, they charged me the $341.09 when I checked in, so I thought everything was okay. However, a few hours after I checked out on the 28th, I noticed in my bank statement that I had been charged a total.of $782.18 (double the amount they were supposed to charge me). I called reception and they said that the Early Bird offer no longer applied just because. To make matters worse, today on January 1, 2021, when I checked my bank statement I noticed that they charged me an additional $341.09. So, in total these people charged me $1,123.27 when they told me when I made the reservation that there was no reservation fee required and that the grand total for our two-night stay would be $341.09 and that we'd had to pay for it the moment we checked in. I am recently married and a student. I need the Hotel El Convento to keep their word and give me back my $782.18 that they stole from me!

The open air restaurant has a beautiful setting and good vibe. It is buzzing with people. The staff is generally friendly, warm and energetic. We got a table without any prior reservation at 7:30pm. The menu is very restricted for vegetarians and moreso for vegans. After having a look at the menu, my husband picked up a vegetarian dish from the printed menu but the person waiting our table strongly recommended the baked branzino that was a special for the day. I went with the branzino while my partner went with a 6-7" flatbread (all cheese). We paired our foods with a glass of red blend wine $9 and mc callan (12 years aged) $18 respectively. I didn't much enjoy the branzino. It was bland with traces of salt, butter, garlic and and we added a 20% tip on that. My only disconnect is that you can't sell a special at $53 (pre-tax) when your avg entree on the printed menu was $20-30. You have to have your specials for the day printed with their prices so that people aren't shocked when they receive the check. I would have rated the place four ⭐⭐⭐⭐ for the feel, ambience and aesthetics. But the food is sub par (less innovative, not delicately prepared ). I live in NYC and this is the first time I have paid $53+taxes for an entree. So I know what good food costs. I could return for a drink and the vibe but it would hurt me to have food here. Even if one can afford paying obnoxiously / recklessly for food, the concept of value for money never gets obsolete. It is never off the table. Pl pl have a written/printed special menu/chef's specials for the day. The rich (contrary to popular belief) also like to take informed decisions.

I had a wonderful time in Old San Juan, staying at El Convento, my favorite hotel, anywhere. Have stayed many times. The staff is so gracious. Courtyard restaurant was wonderful for breakfast and a glass of wine and dinner with lovely music. Right in the heart of Old San Juan to walk everywhere. Everyone was so careful about distancing, I felt very comfortable Hated to leave.

The front desk staff was amazing and beautiful hotel. Down side is that the pool area could be nicer and don’t let the pictures fool you the pool is tiny. It was also half filled so I didn’t go in it.

This hotel is an amazing place, with a superior service. Fabiola received us at front desk and made our check-in great. Later, Ricardo helped us at the bar and was a very nice experience. Location of hotel is perfect, and nostalgia that the place brings makes the stay very romantic. These people found the perfect conjunction between historic conservation and clean and updated hotel. Looking forward to stay again
