This hotel is in a great location if you'd like to be close to Old San Juan. The rooftop pool/area is okay. There's not a lot of room on the rooftop, the pool is very small, and there's not much of a view of the ocean from the rooftop. Also, the waters at Condado beach are a bit rough. I'd highly recommend Isle Verde instead of Condado.

I'll start this review with a mea culpa on my end. In planning for this 4-day trip to San Juan, I did not go ahead and research the AC Hotel brand in detail. Being a Marriott regular, I had certain perceptions of the standard for brands under the Marriot umbrella, so expected their to be a certain level of quality and service, and boy was I disappointed. In researching afterwards, I discovered AC was aimed towards business travelers, which doesn't make a lot of sense when re-branding a hotel in a tourist area a block from the beach, but to each their own. That said, keep in mind you are getting an experience that can best be described as "that hotel you had to stay at overnight when you connecting flight in Atlanta was cancelled". What I did also discover about the AC Hotel brand from the stay, is that the brand is an avenue for hoteliers to cheaply convert their hotels in Marriott branded hotel without brining the usual quality or service of a Marriott. Behind the shinny façade, every aspect of design, construction or service, the AC hotel San Juan cuts corners and costs and consistently reminds you this is just a crappy hotel hiding behind a new coat of paint and some fancy lighting. I'll break down the issues into a couple area below: Front Desk - The front desk is consistently understaffed, with a line for service at any time for day and night. Generally, the staff wants to be helpful, but so understaffed they have little ability to address bigger issues. - One my bigger pet peeves generally for hotels to push "resort fees", but I get it as a way to drive additional revenue (remember a time when we didn't have to pay to check bags). That said, I would appreciate if hotels actual offered something for those fees. The best we got for roughly $50/day was two cans of mini pringles per day, and two (2) drink vouchers for bottle shelf rum and coke. I'm not asking for a lot, but please maybe a decent beer or wine would be an ok option. - I knew this stay was going to be rough, so after the first day I attempted to see if I could cancel any portion of my pre-paid room and find a new hotel, of which the staff was zero help, so I knew I was stuck Rooms - Oh, the rooms. The whole design of the room is done in "Bathroom in a German Airport" aesthetic. All furniture, if you could call it that, is bolted floors and walls and clearly cheaply designed and installed. There's no closest, just some open cubes bolted to the wall where you can hand clothes, and for some reason the bathroom sink and mirror is in the middle of the room rather than the bathroom (that's a choice, I guess) - Additionally, our room was specifically listed as two (2) queen beds, but it was clearly two (2) twins. I actually asked at the front desk, and they insisted we had a queen beds, which at that point I wasn't going to push, but come on now. - The views of nothing, and I mean nothing to write home about. If you were hoping for scenic view of San Juan, be hopeful you get the west side facing view of the parking lot, because the other option you get your balcony over the 24-hr Burger King drive through. - Many reviews have noted this, but the air conditioning system has a mind of it's own, so good luck with a consistent temperature. - Sheets like sandpaper, but that's always consistent with cheap hotels. - The shower was fine, so I'll give them that. Cleaning - The hotel is reasonable clean, but on two (2) separate occasions we had to call cleaning service back because they came to the rooms but didn't remove the trash or make the beds. This wasn't a mistake on our part, as they came to the room and tidy'd up, but literally didn't touch the beds. First time I had ever seen that. Pool - The pool is reasonably nice, but maintenance and upkeep leaves something to be desired. A lot of the furniture is starting to rust or break due to exposure to the elements. - Pool service is lacking as they generally have one overworked server trying to run drink service while also managing the bar in the restaurant. Although trying hard, it was clear from the pool just how understaffed the facility is as wait times were very long. Lastly, to wrap up, I'll say this about the AC Hotel San Juan Condado. If you are travelling solo on short non-leisure travel to San Juan and need some place in or around Candado for a night to pretty much just put your head down for some sleep, this hotel is perfectly fine. Basically a two-star hotel with some nice looking (but cheap once you get close) finishes. If you are travelling to San Juan for any type of vacation/leisure or with a family or group, look at many of the other hotels in the area. Although other options may be a little pricier, the value difference is immense and you will be much happier with your experience elsewhere.…

This hotel is a total rip-off. If you make a reservation on Marriott.com, the total amount shown is WAY LESS than what you will pay. They charge over 25% in undisclosed fees and taxes. And when you arrive they put a "hold" on the full amount for your stay and add an extra $30 per day "security deposit" in case you trash your room. Suddenly I was charged over $5000 for the real charges, plus the undisclosed extra fees, plus the "hold and security deposits" which I will supposedly get credited back to my credit card in 10 days. This is an unfair business practice that should be illegal. As a gold elite member I was entitled to a free snack each day. They seriously offered us Scooby Doo mini snack bones and small containers of Pringles for our snack options. And they were stale. MARRIOTT SHOULD BE EMBARRASSED TO LICENSE ITS NAME TO THIS PROPERTY. I have been brand loyal to Marriott for over 20 years and this place does not come close its standards. To erase the relaxation of the trip, the hotel accidentally overcharged our card even more and I spent hours on the phone today from the airport and when I got home trying to get two different managers to understand their mistake. Pros: location and roof top pool Cons: room was freezing cold the first 2 days/hot and humid the next 2. Maintenance came 3 times and still wasn’t fixed. Mattress was awful, and I slept in a crater. Room lacked basic amenities for a “suite” and the room was very inconvenient for our girls trip (I.e. the bathroom was one room and had a swinging, frosted glass door). Pics online of rooms are very misleading. If location is your goal this is it. If you want to be comfortable, look elsewhere.

I had two night stay and the staff were great. The rooms are well appointed, modern, crisp and clean. Sleep quality was great with no extraneous noise. The location in Condado is perfect with lots of restaurants close by. I would stay again at the AC hotel.

Unfortunate circumstances led me to select this hotel when my husband became ill on a cruise ship and was taken to a hospital nearby. The hotel is very nice and I felt secure (need a room key to select a hotel floor). The rooftop bar/restaurant had good food and drinks and I was able to purchase wine, Diet Pepsi (not Coke!) and snacks in the lobby store which was quite convenient. All of the staff I interacted with were friendly and helpful. As our situation was day to day I was able to extend my stay several times, the only drawback being each separate reservation required me to go back to the front desk. Overall a great hotel.

This hotel is in the heart of everything family, friendly, fun and convenient. I definitely loved the Hot Tub, the pool, the gym, the hotel bar and restaurant, the opportunity to get a freshly made breakfast everyday, the proximity to the beach where you can get lounge chairs, towels and umbrellas as a part of your stay there at the Condado Palm Inn section of the beach. The room was clean and for our needs had a coffee maker, microwave, and a small fridge. I used the coffee maker to make hot water for tea. The service and responsiveness is amazing. Not having to do with the hotel but should be noted if you think this will affect your experience: there is construction very close by to this hotel. We were on the 16th floor and could hear it anytime we cracked or opened the sliding door. We spent more time outside than inside but trying to do a little sleep in thing in the morning can be a challenge if you are a lite sleeper. Convenience to anything that you might need that you may have forgotten is NOT a problem if you stay here. There is a Walgreens and CVS pretty much across the street. There is a Walmart within a 10 minute walking distance as well so you have access to anything you may need on your visit to San Juan. I mentioned before that the service was awesome. The staff were friendly from our very 1st interaction and throughout our stay. No matter the staff member that we crossed paths with during our stay, there was always a Hola, or Buenos Dias, a simple hi and at the very least an acknowledgment with a wave or a smile. I would like to bring attention to the very 1st staff member who assisted us at the desk and who was VERY kind, friendly and helpful throughout our stay: YAMILETZY! Her smile is welcoming. She gave us tips thru our visit on various items: where to eat, the best way to get to places. She was very consistently professional and attentive. Even when she wasn't dealing directly with us, I would see her in passing offering the same great smile and service to other guests. I would stay there again BUT to go to the beach, I would leave Condado and go to Isla Verde or Pinones for calmer, safer waters. The only reason I gave this hotel a 4 out of 5 is bcuz our room was really cold. A staff member did come up and make an adjustment at our request, but the reading on the thermostat didn't quite match the power of the cold air coming out of the vent. I would book there again 100%! Hotel is newly redone so everything is pristine. My only criticism is the place is way too cold. Maybe this is why it is called the AC hotel. Cut the ac in half and it would still be cool enough. A special mention to Gabriel at the front desk. He is what all front office people should aspire to...welcoming, considerate, friendly, cheerful, efficient, intelligent...I could go on, but you get it.
