***Update 2017*** Citronella is currently under new ownership and is being beautifully renovated. We will begin taking new reservations on December 1, 2017. We appreciate your patience and understanding. Thank you, Mangament. Our very private and secluded cottages provide a unique experience for Jamaica travelers who need a lot of space and privacy. Located in Negril and beautifully carved into volcanic cliffs that sit 50 ft above the Caribbean Sea, this very secluded resort offers three acres of lush tropical landscape with sea breezes, quite caves, secluded coves, grottoes, and most of all privacy.

Fine! If I can't lie and say it was horrible, then I guess i have to tell you how wonderful this place is. I had no idea when we booked the resort how great it was going to be, but as the days got closer to vacation and the communication was so great and positive, I knew we were in for a treat. We had booked two cottages for our group and as it got closer we were informed that they would be doing repair on those cottages and we could stay in another (another bigger, even more awesome cabin!) Um, yes! We were also told that since we happened to be the only folks at the resort on those days, we could have the run of the place, and to make ourselves at home. Our cottage overlooked the gorgeous blue water and we woke every morning to the sounds of waves below. There was always a cool breeze and lots of fans in the cottage, so we were never hot, even without AC. Who needs it?! Having a kitchen and full fridge was wonderful, because honestly, we really needed to keep our drinks cold. ;) The grounds were immaculately landscaped, with fruit trees and flowers blooming everywhere and quiet stone paths to get here and there, although we loved to walk barefooted in the super thick, spongy grass. The staff was amazing and Colette was there to greet us when we arrived and even cooked us a delicious breakfast one morning. Hassan was the go-to guy and was there for anything we needed. Errol (or "Snoop" as we affectionately nicknamed him), was the security guard and was always keeping an eye on the place. We laughed that it was like "wheres waldo" because he was always around , no matter where you were. It was nice to know he was close by at all times. I honestly, don't think he even slept. The resort was in the perfect location! We could sit in the pool and hear the music and watch the divers at Ricks without having to fight the crowd. We could walk out the gate of the resort and be at a restaurant in 30 seconds. A couple minute cab ride to the beach or shopping, or just quiet solitude and the sounds of waves back home at the resort. We were definitely spoiled by being the only ones there. Every cove was ours. private cliff diving, seaside showers, caves, it was all ours. this place truly is heaven on earth. There are approximately 5 cottages available to rent, and a bunch more on the property, some of which they are renovating now. This place IS a fabulous resort and has serious potential to be a first class 5 star resort (which it already is, in our hearts and minds.) Half of me wants to see what all they can do with this place (because it has ENDLESS possibilities) and half of me wants them to keep it small and personal. All I know, is I can't wait to get back there, and i return in my mind almost daily. Our group still talks about it every single conversation we have together, it truly did have a HUGE impact on us and we will forever love Citronella and its staff.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights starting on April 18th. -We absolutely loved it! -Stayed in the Round House (on the corner of the property) -The staff was extremely friendly (Especially the security) -Had complete privacy -No one bothers you -Great location, Sir D's (one of the best bars in Negril) is a 2 min. walk as well as LTU Pub (ordered a lot of meals from there, they open early for breakfast as well) -The views are INCREDIBLE -The house was perfect -Ice cold fridge for keeping beers chilled -Nicely landscaped grounds -We paid $175 per night (slow season rate), but I think the rates are going up in price with new owners/renovations -Warm showers -Loved the ocean platform and swimming access -Hired a private yoga instructor for my wife to come to our place every morning -Plenty of shade in yard next to Round house We will be back as long as the prices don't go up too high. Love the property for its "rustic" feel and bang for the buck! Please don't change that! We don't need fancy, the location and views are enough!

Stayed in one of the duplex Conch houses, large enough for a family of four, great views. We have been coming to Citronella for more than 10 years, a lot of improvements have just been done on the property which makes this place even better!

I have been meaning to write a review for some time. We stayed at Citronella several years ago and had a fantastic time. If you are looking for an intimate, unique experience, rather than a generic resort, this is the place! Citronella has its very own cove with dramatic cliffs and gorgeous water. We found it very peaceful and relaxing. There were other guests but we rarely saw them so it feels very private. You can stock up the refrigerator and make your own meals, or ask Colette to cook a special meal. She is a great cook! We hope to come back soon!

I've stayed in Negril before but Citronella was my favorite place to stay so far. Wake up and enjoy the sea, snorkel and relax. Easy access to restaurants yet we found that our favorite dining was on site with Colette. The staff will help you with excursions with a better rate than I've seen at the beach. If you want to get down, Rick's cafe is right there. Rick's did not make too much noise past sunset so it was good for me and my parents on this trip. Further down the road we found the best pastries. When I come back to West End, this will be my first choice.

this place is a dump. Run down and dated interiors. Did I mention the rats inside the premises? Use your money to stay elsewhere. You'll spend the same amount, but get a MUCH better experience. Maybe owners should take a look at the competition--to either adjust their prices or fix their premises!

My husband and I spent a week at Citronella, our third visit, during low season June 11 - 18, 2016. I thought I'd concentrate on describing the rooms in this review. We stayed 6 nights in the Roundhouse, and moved to the A Frame for the last night. We were the *only* guests at Citronella the entire week. No exaggeration. The entire property was ours and we felt like we were at our very own estate! With that said, even when there are other guests on property, you really do get a great sense of privacy as each of the cottages have some property and their own steps leading down to the water. Collette and Trevor and Adrien were there each day and it is always lovely to see them and chat a bit. The entire town of Negril was very, very quiet the week we were there, but we like that aspect of going during low season. You save some money and you have privacy. The beach was almost empty! If you have ever been to the beach in Negril during high season, like the months of Jan or Feb, you know it can be very crowded most days. The weather was fantastic the entire week. It rained a tiny bit on the way in from the airport, and a tiny bit on the way back to the airport. Otherwise, sun sun sun every day! It warms up during the day but we never had a problem having no AC in the rooms. Just throw on a tank top and some shorts or live in your bathing suit all day! We love both the Roundhouse and the A Frame. You can't go wrong with either. We hit the Hi Lo and bought some basics like eggs, milk (they even have almond milk), cereal, coffee, rum, and visited a nearby fruit stand for some fruit (the Hi Lo doesn't have a great selection of fruit really and is expensive) and I prepared breakfast every morning as the restaurant was not open - we knew in advance it would not be open so this was not a surprise, or a problem for us. I enjoy cooking and don't mind doing it on vaca! Roundhouse has a full kitchen with a proper stove. The A Frame has a fridge, coffee machine and a hotplate so you can do some cooking there too, but if you want a legit kitchen, Roundhouse has one. The Roundhouse is dark wood inside, the A Frame is lighter wood, and the top of the A Frame is open air and sun gets through, so it's brighter in the A Frame. The swimming situation at the Roundhouse is very private, as it has its own cove. The cove at the A Frame is also shared with the Cove house so if people are staying there you may see them swimming. Again, it's all so private that either one is great! But if you are looking for the most private spot at Citronella, you'd be best in the Roundhouse. I have described the outdoor showers in my last review if you want to know about those. As I sit here writing this review, I am also mentally planning our next trip to Citronella. We can't wait to go back. it is a very special place. Private and rustic. Like sleepaway camp for adults. We love it.

Thank you so much for your beautiful review of Citronella. It has always been our goal to keep Citronella as private as possible because that is how we like it to be as well.Sometime you might want to try the Cave House,it is equally as nice as the other houses and tends to be the cooler house in the hotter low-season.We do hope to continue to please you in your future visits...Thanks,cathy

My wife and I have been to Citronella several times and recently I went solo and stayed in a smaller private cabin not facing the ocean but it was comfortable clean, it had everything I needed to relax and explore the bars, restaurants and eateries that we so enjoy. Cathy and John the owners are welcoming, helpful and good hosts. The staff are pleasant, competent and have worked there for many years. The grounds are well kept and the ocean front is exceptional rock cliffs and the sea is turquoise. The snorkeling is fun as well as you get to see many different types and colors of fish. The cliffs are a great place to stay in Negril, and the beach is a 5.00 US cab ride so you get the best of both worlds. I enjoy going for a quick walk through Rick's Café during sunset and then head back to Citronella for a more affordable drink as we have access to a fridge and buy our drinks and snacks.

I almost didn't want to review this because I want to keep Citronella as our secret, however, we enjoyed our stay so much just have to share. If you aren't the "all inclusive" type of traveler Citronella is perfect. Quiet, low key, island life. You won't find a better deal for your own cabana with private access to the water. We stayed in the Round House, and never even saw another guest except for coffee at breakfast. Total relaxation. There's no AC but we didn't need it as there are great breezes at night, there is a ceiling fan. The property manager Collette is also a wonderful cook if you pre-order meals I recommend you do so. The cottage has a kitchenette and we were able to walk a few minutes to a local shop and buy some provisions. Several restaurants are within walking distance. If you want privacy, old school Caribbean relaxation, waterfront access, amazing snorkeling, for a reasonable rate, Citronella is the place.

We are all so happy that you did this review of Citronella...thank you...You are right about Citronella not being the all inclusive type of place...Citronella is not meant for everyone and we find that only adventurous style people are most content at Citronella. We do hope to see you again sometime in the near future...cathy

Just came back from a 10-day trip to Jamaica of which we stayed our first 4 days in the Conch House at Citronella. Citronella is perfectly situated on the cliffs and it seems each house in the compound has it's own private access to the pristine, turqoise water. All the places to dive or jump from suited us perfectly, and the bay just down the steps from the cliffs proved to be excellent snorkeling environment. Trevor and Colette were really helpful hosts and we really got a sense of privacy. Because of the way the compound of Cirtonella is built and how the garden is planted, I think, even if Citronella is fully booked, you will feel like your in your own paradise. Totally fantastic place. No doubt in my mind where we will stay if we're ever so lucky to visit Negril again. There was free wifi in the restaurant building, btw, and this was enough for us.
