We had a wonderful stay at Rockhouse - the property and water is truly spectacular!

ROOMS:
Most rooms were booked out for our dates and as we needed an extra bed for our 13yo we settled on the Deluxe Studio. The price of Deluxe Studio is really great value if you are more adventurous and less inclined to spend time in your room except for sleeping etc.
The studio rooms are in a great position on the large property, right near the main pool. The rooms themselves were large enough and clean. The issue with these rooms though is they are VERY dark with little natural light. They also do not have glass windows, so you hear every noise that comes through the bug screens and shutters. Lots of mosquitos as well, though the hotel supplied bug spray in each room. Housekeeping fantastic. We enjoyed our room for the price and it was only 3 nights, however, for a longer stay I would have preferred a villa or the new rooms behind the pool. The main issue for us was how dark the rooms were and the fact they had no proper windows.

GROUNDS:
The property is so unique which is what makes it so special. The water is unbelievable and makes for a fun trip. We spent most of our days swimming, using the free paddle boards which are scattered throughout the property, snorkeling, jumping off various rocks and using the wonderful pool. Whilst large the resort is easy to navigate and the signage for where you can enter the water is well mapped out.
The ocean is not too rough at Rockhouse compared to some other places we visited along the cliffs. We also saw dolphins every night which was very cool!
The swimming pool is lovely, not many loungers around the pool but ample supply on the adjacent sun deck. Pool service from the staff working at the bar was sensational, they did such a great job and were so prompt with taking your order, cleaning up etc.

RESTAURANTS:
We tried both Rockhouse and Pushcart for dinner which was nice at both - yet on the pricier side. Breakfast at Rockhouse each morning was delicious and reasonably priced (except fresh juices which were similar price to a cocktail!?)
Pool bar was great for drinks and a small menu for lunch/snacks. Happy hour was 5pm until sunset and great value.

LOCATION:
Great location on the west end. Next door to Rockhouse is a small mini mart which I used to buy water and some other shelf grocery items.
If you're eager, it is a short route taxi ride to other west-end highlights like Rick's Cafe etc in one direction or the main town in the other direction. Route taxis very easy to catch from the front of property.

Overall we had a wonderful stay. The room we chose was cheap so I can't complain about it too much, but would definitely upgrade to a different room for a longer stay,

My husband and I visited Negril for the first time a few weeks back and could not be happier with our decision to stay at Rockhouse.

We were a bit hesitant coming into the trip because we have always stayed at larger, all inclusive resorts in the past; however, we are SO glad we took the leap of faith and stayed here.

The grounds, villas, restaurants, spa, and staff all far exceeded our expectations.

The grounds were impeccably maintained. It was was as if there was a photo op around each corner. Pictures truly do not do this place justice.

Our villa was very secluded and all that we could have hoped for. The rooms are somewhat basic, but truly all you need. Hearing the sounds of the ocean through the window screens & showering in the outdoor shower were two of our favorite things.

Between the Rockhouse Restaurant, Pushcart, and even the pool grill- we didn’t have a single complaint about any of our meals. We were very impressed with the freshness of the ingredients. Do yourself a favor and get the coconut shrimp & plenty of orders of Ackee Dip with plantain chip and don’t forget a ginger shot in the mornings!

We took advantage of a spa day and treated ourselves to a couples scrub, massage, and bathing ritual. Everything was incredible, but be sure not to skip the bathing ritual. It was very relaxing and such a cool experience!

Although this was our first trip to Negril and Rockhouse, it will most definitely not be our last!

Rockhouse is one of my favorite places in the world. I've been visiting Rockhouse for 20+ years and the hotel just keeps getting more beautiful.
I was so pleased when they re-opened after the Covid-19 shutdown, and I took advantage of their great rate offerings. I spent 2 blissful weeks this August. I felt extremely safe due to the strict sanitation and health protocol implemented by the hotel
While all amenities are not currently available with the current virus protocol, the things that make Rockhouse so special are all still there. The beautiful clear water, the stunning views, the lovely rooms, but mostly the warmth, friendship and professionalism of the staff are still strong. The vibes are still irie.

Expectations can be a pig and high expectations a prizing winning hog. This was the challenge that the Rockhouse was up against, and sadly we were rather disappointed. We stayed in a Studio room, which many previously compared unfavourably to the villas.

The Pros:

1. The grounds, pool area and swimming bay are all beautiful
2. The staff in the restaurant are friendly and professional

The Cons:

1. Studio rooms are small, dark and a little tired
2. Staff made little effort during the day to clear, clean or sanitize facilities around the pool area. Dirty plates and glasses would sit for hours on sticky tables
3. Towels ran out very early each day and many guests, including us, had to keep asking for them. Eventually we followed the advice of a guest who had arrived earlier and once we got them, we kept our towels overnight and dried them on our balcony
4. Staff outside the restaurant could best be described as perfunctory; they did what was required, but with little grace, charm or enthusiasm

Thanks to COVID-19 we got a super bargain rate, but to be honest it didn’t seem like a bargain once we were there; we would have been extremely disappointed if we had paid anything close to rack rate. I don’t think that we will stay at the Rockhouse again, even at this bargain rate – next time we will go back to the far superior Tensing Pen

We apologize for this guest’s experience at the Rockhouse Hotel. This review is a timely reminder for us, and we appreciate this guest taking the time to provide their feedback. Having been closed for the past 4 months with the Coronavirus pandemic we realize that in reopening and observing the many protocols for health and safety we had not focused enough on retraining our team on guest friendliness and ensuring we are extending warmth and hospitality we have built our name on. We have immediately undertaken retraining on this and addressed the issues that have been raised. There was a specific issue with towel shortages due to guests using 3 and four towels at the pool whereas previously they may have used one, which we have addressed through increasing our circulating inventory. All our rooms are designed with ambient lighting and we have done refurbishing work on all our studio rooms as soon as this issue was brought to our attention. The reopening of the hotel has been a difficult time for all of us and we are working to improve every day to provide the excellent guest experience we have been known for. Again, we humbly apologize that things were not up to our standards or the reasonable expectations of our guests and we are committed to addressing all issues.

Recently returned from a week trip to Rockhouse.
The views were unbelievable, couldn't ask for better scenery.
However, if you are looking for upscale resort living think twice about staying here. You will be experiencing "Jamaican" 5 star. You will be in a thatch roof hut with a small balcony jutting over the beautiful Caribbean. Once inside your hut however, all 5 star amenities are gone. They will tell you that you have a king bed when in fact it is maybe at best a queen but more like a full. The room is dark with drab brown drapes that make the room even darker. Your windows are wooden slats that dont shut tight so you do hear the traffic, dogs, motorcycles at all hours of the day and night as the resort is yes on a cliff but also on the side of the road.
Showers are located outside which is nice but the bathroom is very dull with again a slatted window that when open, the landscape workers can see right in.
You have no coffee pot so if you like to wake up to a cup of it, plan on calling room service (but not until 7) and hope like heck they bring you the correct order. Twice ordered coffee. Received the cup, creamer, and spoon but not the pot of coffee that will cost you $10.00!
Pros... would be the pool and the staff there! Brian we loved you!
The staff is super friendly, kind, and eager to make your stay enjoyable.
Waking up every morning to the views is wonderful.
The restaurants were good but definitely check out some of the local huts you'll be pleasantly surprised. Presley's across the street but call first to let him know what type of seafood you want him to prepare for you.
Ivan's down at Catch a Star
Murphy's
Lilly's at Skylark
Public House to name a few!

We would like to start by thanking these guests for taking the time out to share their feedback with us, and apologize that their experience fell below their expectations and our standards. With respect to the windows not operating correctly, we have immediately addressed this. We are a rustic, boutique resort and the room is designed to deliberately feel like part of the natural landscape with stone floors, and timber finishes. The story of the room is focussed on the aspect onto Pristine Cove and internal design is created not to compete with that. Note that all our rooms have four posted Queen Size Beds except the Ocean View Suites which have King Size. We have taken this opportunity to revisit our training program with our restaurant team, ensuring they are upholding our standards in customer service. We are committed to continuous improvement and we appreciate all information about how best to improve. We have reached out to these guests directly to see if there is more we can learn from their experience.

Rockhouse could not be a more perfect way to resume our post-covid travels. We got there early and were given a complimentary drink while waiting for our room to be ready. Our room, while not one of the villas, was maybe a minute's walk from the infinity pool and bar/grill. The room had a spacious outdoor shower and a large balcony with a generous view of the water and was close enough to hear the water washing up against the volcanic rock that the resort is built on, which was perfect to fall asleep to every night. The staff from the top down to housekeeping was very professional, friendly and accommodating. The front office staff occasionally seemed slightly stressed but overall were very helpful. There are two onsite restaurants in addition to the poolside bar & grill, but the food at the grill was every bit as good as the restaurants. Making a lunch or dinner reservation was effortless and seemed to guarantee us a waterside table every time at both restaurants. Because there aren't that many units at Rockhouse, the restaurants and pool area never seemed to be overcrowded. We were always able to find seating at or very near the pool. You are on island time, so leave yourself a little extra time when ordering at the restaurants, but ironically, when ordering room service (which is provided at no additional charge), the food seemed to arrive a little faster. The portions are generous and priced relatively comparable to what we would pay at home. My personal favorites were the jerk chicken plate from the poolside grill, the jerk fish salad from Pushcart Restaurant and the seafood linguini at Rockhouse Restaurant. The poolside bar has a daily happy hour until sunset, which, from that vantage point is an excellent place to watch it on a clear afternoon and as friendly as the bartenders are, Jordayne has to be the friendliest bartender on the entire island. There is a very large roped off cove for snorkeling and paddleboarding. The snorkeling was not the best I've seen, but the water was very clear and there was still plenty to see down there, and there are several available points of entry, so if you're a beginner, you should be fine especially if you go in the morning when the water is at its calmest. The grounds are very clean and regularly maintained, and I can't say if it was luck or by design, but the usual Caribbean bug problem was non-existent. We took advantage of the mosquito netting around our bed, but I think we each got bitten only once, which was totally unexpected and pleasantly welcome. There is a row of vendors across the street from the resort, but honestly, it seemed like there was a better selection of merch on the beach at their sister property Skylark which provides a free daily shuttle if you want your beach fix. One word of caution about Skylark is the amount of locals roaming the beach who aggressively try to sell their merch. Avoid them and go check out the booths/kiosks on the beach instead. On its own, though, Rockhouse is highly, highly recommended. I plan on going back.

This property is one of the most unique places my husband and I have ever been to and our absolute favorite for so many reasons.
This is the kind of experience where you feel simultaneously well taken care of but also left alone which is a hard balance for a property to achieve and the Rockhouse has done it.
The staff, the accommodations, the FOOD. The food deserves its own post entirely. We ate at the Pushcart restaurant 3 nights out of 5 it was that good. Authentic, affordable Jamaican fare. Breakfast from the Rockhouse restaurant arrived at our Villa in a timely manner and it was out of this world.
We spent most of our 5 days by the glorious pool, alternating sunbathing with dips in the ocean, snorkeling, reading, and just relaxing. It was heaven on earth and we cannot wait to return.
Our Standard Villa was very private with perfect views and a wonderful location close to the spa and the pool. The room itself could use a few improvements - a new mattress and more hooks for bathing suits and towels.
We had a delicious dinner one night at Three Dives right down the road - highly recommend for at least one meal going off the property. The front desk can assist with transportation and directions.
Every single staff member was friendly and helpful. I don't want to name names because I can't remember anyone and I don't want to leave anyone out.
THANK YOU, we will most certainly be back!

Every few years, I need a Rockhouse visit. It's a place to relax, take in all the splendor, and recenter. The 5th time delivered, as always. First, I love the amazing employees and seeing them again and again throughout the years, (Jheanelle, Miller, Bally, Gio, the Rockhouse restaurant manager). It was wonderful to meet new friends on this trip, too (Jordayne, Jason, Dexton, Casea, Sashani). The people here make it a special place. We sprang for a villa this time after years of happily staying in a studio or deluxe standard, and it was absolutely worth every penny. We were in Villa 18, closer to the pool -- so beautiful. The pool area is breathtaking and we enjoyed the camaraderie of Jordayne, Jason, and Dexton there. We ate at Rockhouse restaurant, Pushcart, or pool bar almost every day; the food continues to be excellent and fair-priced. We took a trip to Murphy's and walked to 3 Dives, both great local places to get authentic meals. We loved the garden tour with Bally. He's so passionate and a great teacher about plants and Rockhouse's design. The COVID protocols are taken seriously with testing onsite three days a week, masks required, and sanitizer everywhere. We felt safe there and social distancing is easy to do. My only wish is that they'd provide copies of receipts at the restaurants & bar to track spending, but I shared that in a departing survey. I started taking pictures of receipts to help. In the villas, the air conditioning unit "on" light is bright, so I recommend bringing an eye mask; I will next time. If you're thinking about Rockhouse, just go. I highly recommend it. I look forward to a return!

We were at Rockhouse again a couple of weeks ago. We had always stayed in Standard VIllas but wanted to try something else this time. We booked the new suite and were looking forward to it but had to move our trip due t a positive covid test. When we picked new dates only the Premium Villa was available so we did that. We loved having the King Bed and slightly more space in the premium villa. We loved having screens surrounding the outdoor shower and bathroom because we had fewer bugs in the Premium Villa than the Standard Villa. The down side was that some of the Premium Villas, including ours ... #6, were very close to each other, even more so than the standard villas. So we lost a little space around us but the gain of the King Bed was huge for us! The biggest issues with the Premium VIlla were 3 things, only one of which could maybe be changed. The road noise is more of any issue at night and early morning, but not a deal breaker for us.. There is a dog nearby that almost never shuts up. Probably a great dog doing his job... but can be annoyhing at times, but also not a deal breaker for us. The last one needs attention... the water pressure in the shower needs attention. You can shower at Premium Villa 6, but you can't enjoy a shower at Premium Villa 6!> The down side we saw about the Suites was that much of the day their lounge chairs on their balcony was in shade a large part of the day (Maybe not a bad thing) but there are no lounge chairs on the cliffside that are marked for priority use by the suite guests. All of the villas have cliffside chairs marked for them. Having said that we would still be interested in trying the Suites next time because we spend a good part of our day at the pool anyway and would like to try them and their extra space. I'd love to see TV's added to the Suites since they have the extra space and there is so little to do at Rockhouse after dark and people who don't want to watch TV can simply not turn it on.

Stayed for a week at Rockhouse on their great stay 5, get 2 nights free special. Rockhouse has been on our radar for years after reading a review in a travel magazine. After getting vaccinated, we were looking for a safe and easy getaway. Jamaica has a fairly straightforward entry policy and Rockhouse has an aggressive COVID mitigation policy, so off we went. We used the Club Mobay arrivals service and it was well worth the money to breeze through customs. On arrival, we were set up with Rockhouse’s WhatsApp which they use very efficiently for guest communication and general announcements. We stayed in room 27, one of the traditional hotel style rooms. The room was pleasantly minimalistic. No TV, but a nice outdoor shower (plenty private), balcony, and comfy queen bed. There’s small safe, adequate storage, and a handy USB charging hub. We used the AC the whole week (mostly due to humidity) and it did quite well. All in all, the room was everything needed but we would look for a villa on a return trip just for the cool factor. The pool area is the gathering place and the bar/grill serves up drinks and good eats (get the fish sandwich). There are plenty of lounge chairs both around the pool and scattered around the cliffs for more private days. There are multiple steps down to the ocean and the snorkeling is great right off the cliffs. The Rockhouse and Pushcart restaurants are on site, convenient, and serve up authentic Jamaican cuisine. What really sets Rockhouse apart is the dedicated and friendly staff. From grounds maintenance to management, everyone seems dedicated to ensuring a great stay.
Suggestions: 1) Take the daily shuttle to the sister hotel, Skylark for a beach day. 2) Have the front desk arrange a car and driver for a morning drive to the countryside. 3) Participate in a visit to a Rockhouse Foundation sponsored school. 4) Have lunch at one of the nearby local restaurants. 5) Jump off a cliff!
