Another 5-star visit to CSA is in the books for us. Most significant for us this visit was how strong are the Couples management and staff teams. Despite challenges all resorts in Jamaica are facing—staffing shortages, unavailability of key foods like bananas on a regular basis due to hurricane crop damage, inflation—they still delivered an A+ experience during a period of very high occupancy.
They have added accessibility ramps to 4 rooms for guests who cannot manage stairs. We stayed in a renovated beachfront verandah suite, our first time in a renovated room. Though I’d seen many photos, I hadn’t appreciated until in how significant the changes were. The design is understated and beautiful. As important as form, the function of the room is a vast improvement, with significantly more and better space to unpack, organize, and store luggage.
Food was delicious and varied. Activity offerings are top notch as always, with excellent instruction. They pull off Herculean feats in their elaborately festive holiday displays and events, from light displays to gingerbread houses, to sorrel cocktails, to delightful elves and a surprise arrival from Santa, to African drumming and dance troupes, to a poolside fresh fish fry. Since Hanukkah fell at the same time as Christmas this year, it would have been wonderful to see any nod to it in the decorations or traditional food for their many Jewish guests who visit that time of year besides a “Christmas cookie” in the shape of a Star of David. Perhaps next time because a potato latke recipe would use ingredients already on hand and be very easy to serve up. Likewise a jelly donut.
From their VP of Customer Care, their Social Media Director, GM, owners meeting guests around the grounds, pre-arrival reservations and guest relations team, reservations and guest relations managers and teams to the entire staff (sports complex, spa, housekeeping, food and beverage, grounds, entertainment, and more) Couples and Swept Away are unique gems in a world of bland, cookie cutter AI resorts. Thank you for another memorable stay that will fuel us through the winter.

Ah, my tale of Couples Swept Away in Negril, Jamaica, is one peppered with both island charm and the realities of resort life.
Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed at the reception desk, swiftly assigned to our immaculately clean room. The initial impression? A rustic Jamaican flair, evident through shutters instead of windows—a touch of local flavor that gave our accommodation a "glamping" vibe. Despite the unconventional setup, we embraced it as part of our quest for a genuine Jamaican experience.
However, as night fell, so did the truth about those shutters. The lively critters of the vicinity and the nearby Norman Manley Blvd created a cacophony that disrupted our tranquility. The resort, elongated yet narrow, amplified the sounds from the road up to three buildings away from the shore. The room itself, though dated, offered comfort with a cozy bed, adequate bathroom facilities, and a delightful terrace adorned with a hammock and sofa—a sanctuary during rainy spells.
Exploring the resort independently revealed its layout and amenities. Dining experiences varied; Patois Patio, while closed for a private event, led us to the Palms dining room, where a la carte offerings satisfied our palates amidst a somewhat rushed service atmosphere. Buffet nights were a personal favorite, offering a wider culinary selection complemented by local entertainment.
Swimming options included two pools, unfortunately minus the Jacuzzi experiences due to closure. Opting for the beach proved a wiser choice—the lifeguarded expanse boasting calm, clear waters and meticulously maintained shores. Water sports, including glass-bottom boat rides and kayaking, added to the seaside allure, guided by enthusiastic staff.
A coffee shop adjacent to the lobby catered from dawn till dusk, while obligatory gift shops beckoned with pricey treasures. Late-night cravings found solace at Patois Patio's extended hours, though snack options outside these times required a trek.
Yet, amidst the allure, one gripe persisted: noise. Ongoing room refurbishments echoed jackhammer symphonies from midday into late afternoon, disrupting patio retreats. Coupled with the persistent hum from the main road, tranquility was occasionally fleeting.
In summation, Couples Swept Away offers a mixed bag of Jamaican authenticity and resort conveniences. While setbacks like noise and dated accommodations temper the experience, the warmth of the staff, the allure of the beach, and the cultural flavors in dining provide ample compensation for those seeking a laid-back Caribbean escape.
Yours in tales of sun, sea, and shuttered windows,

Just back from another great stay at Couples Swept Away. This hotel sits on a long perfect beach that's safe to walk from one end to the other with its gentle approach into the calm clear warm sea. Plenty of loungers and chairs under the long palm fringed beachfront although you may need to get up early if you are choosy about your position on the beach but there was never a shortage of relaxers throughout our stays. The rooms are in small blocks spaced around the lovely gardens and pathways, very easy access to everything you need, each block is 4 rooms wide and 2 or 3 floors high. The rooms are basic and rustic but have everything you need, very comfortable bed, plenty of storage, TV, fridge (stocked with your own choice of drinks), coffee m/c, a/c and fans, large bathroom always kept spotlessly clean and each room has its own furnished patio or balcony. Room service is excellent. Good food wherever you eat, two main restaurants buffet style and two speciality restaurants that you will need to reserve with a high standard of food and service. There are a number of beach bars along the length of the property with light meal dining options for lunch nearby. Daily inclusive trips on bottom glass boat and snorkelling plus catamaran sailing late afternoon for the sunsets, just need to reserve your places. This is such a relaxing and easy going place for your vacation, staff always seem happy and pleasant and willing to help out whenever you have a need. Thanks again to everyone at Couples Swept Away for a great vacation, hope to see you again soon.

If you’ve never been to CSA, you might think it’s pretty good. We’ve been many times before, and sadly it seems to have gone downhill recently. Nothing major, just lots and lots of little things which, when added up, amount to a significant reduction in satisfaction.
Rumours abound of staff shortages which are unconfirmed. However, there were a lot of inexperienced staff there which showed through in poor service (even in their top restaurant Feathers), and super slow service in Patois, including “losing” our order on one occasion. Housekeeping was poor - balcony never swept of sand, so we ended up doing it ourselves. Turndown was received only 3/13 nights. Major towel shortage - we complained about this and it was better for a couple of nights, but then reverted back to shortages. No flowers in the room any more and no towel art (unsurprisingly).
Food portions in the a la carte restaurants are noticeably smaller. The side of vegetables that accompanied all mains at Lemongrass has been scrapped. Breakfast buffet ran out of Greek yoghurt, granola, pecans, natural yoghurt and oats half way through our holiday. Some came back days later, others didn’t.
Our room wasn’t ready until 1.5h after the hotel check in time - possibly due to housekeeping short staffing. We were given a $100 resort credit for the inconvenience but after a long journey I would have rather had access to my room on a timely basis. We were in an unrenovated room which had definitely seen better days - the shower screen and shower itself were covered in dirt and limescale and the shower attachment broken.
The beach situation has got completely out of hand. A larger proportion of guests want shade than in past years, resulting in ever earlier reserving of chairs in the beach, prior to 6am to get a palapa. Everyone is very squashed in under the trees, with very little personal space, which isn’t great when other folks are smoking and vaping nearby. Some chairs are missing floats now. Beach furniture is no longer hosed down daily so tables are filthy spilt drinks, sun cream etc. The beach toilet was blocked for several days and not fixed by the time we left.
Spa prices are now prohibitively expensive, given I can get a facial and massage back at home for 1/3 the price charged by CSA. This used to be a nice holiday treat - now I get mine done back at home before I go.
Husband was disappointed in the state of some of the gym equipment and sailing equipment (ropes nearly frayed through).
This hotel still has one of the most incredible locations on a world class beach. But the offering has gone right off the boil. Nothing individual deal breaking, but it all adds up to mediocrity. Frankly I’d rather pay a bit more and get the standard of product and service CSA used to offer. Until things improve, sadly I doubt we will come back.

Couples Swept Away was our first experience with the Couples brand, and unfortunately I can't recommend it for people who have stayed at and enjoyed Secret or Excellence all-inclusive resorts. It's a great entry level all-inclusive resort, but not somewhere I would stay again, unless certain things are improved - specifically food and service. Also important to call out that the resort does seem to cater a little more to an older demographic (50+) based on the type of music played, etc. That said, we are in our late 30s/early 40s and had a great time with the people we met - everyone was social and interested in having a good time.
Highlights: - Activity selection: You can't get bored here if you like activities. The social coordinators (Kayla and Shania) were AMAZING and brought the energy to pool trivia. There are tennis lessons, workout classes, and several boat options that are all included in your stay. The fitness area is also well-equipped with weights, cardio machines, and a large lap swimming poo.. - Beach: Super well-maintained with an amazing stretch of beach, with very few vendors (all were extremely kind and polite). Note: it was hard to find chairs in the shade after 11am. - Rooms: The rooms were very clean and up-to-date with comfortable bedding and a large TV. - Management: We switched from Couples Negril to Swept Away and management was very accommodating throughout the process, organized transportation for us and allowed us to see the different room options.
Lowlights: - Service: There were a few people there that made our stay very enjoyable, but the vast majority of staff didn't seem to want to be there and seemed inconvenienced when we asked to sit at a certain table (that was open) or asked for a special cocktail. We also didn't get our mini bar refreshed until our last night despite leaving our requests out a couple of days prior. - Food: The resort anchors more to buffets and very standard fast-food fare unless you go to one of the two reservation-only restaurants (you must reserve 1 day in advance, but food was good at Feathers). They also seem to cater to people that want bland food - note they wouldn't add salt to cooked-to-order eggs unless explicitly asked. - Garden room noise: If you stay in the Garden Rooms on the edge of the property, you will get a lot of road noise. Our door had a large opening in it, which was part of the problem. - Drinks: They claim to serve more premium liquors, but the wine selection was poor (Frontera brand). You also have to specify the liquor you want; otherwise you won't get premium brands.

This hotel is dirty, dingy, dilapidated. This hotel is not clean in the 2 weeks we were here the same bit of silver paper stayed on the bathroom floor not only that there were crumbs down the side of the mattress, walls have marks on if this was a 5 star hotel it would be clean. The entertainment is non existent most hotels we have stayed in the shows do not start till 9pm here the shows end at 9pm then you get dirty looks from the bar staff when you want another drink. the beach furniture is dirty we never saw it being cleaned at all. There are cats in the restaurant begging and they have fleas as my husband had a flea bite on his arm. you have to wait for 20 minutes for an egg in the morning as there is only 1 person serving and lunch time and evening the menu is limited and so is the buffet. this is not a 5 star not even a 3 star we would not come back here no even if it was free.

This hotel was chosen with great care, we save hard all year to go away to somewhere special with a high rating. After going abroad for many years we feel we have a good understanding of ratings. This hotel is not a five star hotel, more like a high three to low four. The grounds are lovely although need more upkeep. The food was ok to good at times, and the choices were limited during our stay. The maid service by the main maid to our room was really good, other times dismal. The mini bar service was at time non existent even though i had asked at reception for the cards to tick and place on the handle, and also try to use the app which didnt work. A lot of the staff are really good some not! We did get the ants in our room at night which seems to be their wake time and also mosquitos outside our room. We were there during Hurricane Beryl, and the manager of the hotel was amazing, she kept us well informed, gave us extra water, towels and STILL provided us with food by keeping certain restaurants open during this difficult time. The manager Karen was onsite during the hurricane and everyday thereafter, making sure the guests were catered for and also clearing the hotel debris that occured. This is even when the staff were not sure if their families were ok. This is truly heartwarming and we were humbled with this, even offering to help with the clearup. I am talking pre hurricane now, i feel they need to widen their choices of food at the buffet restaurants, we talked to other UK people who had been their in Jan, and they noticed a massive difference with this, attitudes with some minimal staff needs improving. The beach is amazing, sunbeds lovely plentiful, yes the beach sellers can become annoying they are there everyday, but are kept at bay by the security, do not engage with the handshake unless you want to purchase anything, as a couple of them will make it appear they are giving you a free bracelet but trust me it is not! Just tell them politely NO THANK YOU, and they will leave you alone. The musicians are lovely and yes we tipped them, they are friendly and its lovely to hear the music. We felt the entertainment at night ended way too soon, unless you wanted to go to the piano bar, but we are not really karaoke singers, so ended up bk in the room early. We did one excursion (due to the others being cancelled because of the hurricane). This was the Jamwest ATV experience, this was a great day out and we would highly recommend. Hope this helps with making a decision.

I will start by saying this place is unbelievable. We went with another couple, my brother and sister in-law.Our stay was from December 14th to the 21st Upon landing, we were whisked through customs and met with a smile from the Couples staff awaiting our arrival at the airport with a nice cold beer and some snacks before we left for our drive to CSA Upon arrival we were greeted again with a smile and a welcome drink. We checked in, booked our Catamaran Trip and made restaurant Reservations at Feather's and Lemongrass then off to check out this beautiful resort Our room 4315 was an updated spotless room and had a view of the ocean The food throughout the week was amazing. We were all impressed by the resort having duck and rabbit for lunch... mmm so good. Oh and I can't forget Lobster night on Saturday! The pizza was amazing for a lunch or a snack or both like what we did lol Best steak I've had in a long time at Feathers and Patois.Awesome fish tacos and the best banana filled French toast ever omg please try them at breakfast time Our fav restaurant was Feathers but i think everyone says that. Our next fav was Patois by the swim up bar.The food for breakfast or dinner was just amazing. The staff were great also. The staff that stuck out for us were.. Nastassia and Fabian at Patois-both made us feel welcome and made our time there really enjoyable. Hakeem the bartender on the beach was friendly and made some great drinks Shania remembered everyone's names and was very friendly and bubbly Sidney, one of the vendors onsite during our stay sells really well done painted coconuts of any sports teams imaginable and will personalize it. He was a very nice guy Actually all the vendors selling onsite had very nice products for a good price and weren't overly pushy. Ricardo M was always cleaning and doing landscaping and making sure all the grounds looked clean and tidy Overall this place is a 10 for us and we would all come back in a second. See you again soon!!

Great fitness facilities although some weights are rusted. The pool is fantastic for doing laps and the tennis courts are numerous and in excellent condition. In addition there is a pro to give lessons. Food is not good. Jerk chicken was tasty one day, the next day it was so dry I could hardly eat it. The buffet is unappetizing and I did not touch it as buffets are breeding grounds for getting sick and this one did not look especially clean. The specialty restaurants had good food and my companion was really impressed with the lamb from Patois. Rooms were not large. Minimal amenities - no cu tips, no cotton, shampoo and conditioner in one. Cleaning was limited to providing new towels daily and a cursory cleaning of the floor and bathroom. Dirty towels were not taken away, used cups were left for us to dispose of. At no time did I feel that I was being catered to but rather I was left to fend for myself. No-one on the beach or grounds offered towels or drinks or asked if we needed anything. As a matter of fact it was a work out to get towels, drinks or food. The staff were friendly. The hotel and grounds are clean and well kept. The location is ideal - the beach is perfect. You can swim far out and stand only in sand, no grass of weeds like many other beaches plus the sand is soft and powdery for miles. It is shallow so great for walking in the water. The hotel is located with a perfect view of the sunset. This hotel advertises as 5 stars so this was my expectation regarding service and here they fall short.

We've been on few holidays is the Caribbean and the accommodation is normally excellent for a reasonable price, we decided to spend more this time as it was our honeymoon and the accommodation was actually worse than what we normally receive.
We had to move rooms twice. The first room we were given was next to the main road and the room had 0 sound insulation, it was as if the door was open you could hear the road so clearly, it was like being in a busy city, not restful at all. So we asked if we could change rooms in the hope of getting a restful night sleep and they did change our room to a room that was in the same price bracket but was quieter from the road, you could still hear it and now we had the added noise of the band playing at the main restaurant coming through the walls but was more bearable. 2 days later the weather turned and there was a lot of rain. Water started leaking down our internal wall and through the plug sockets. We called up maintenance, there was nothing they could do as the issue would require some serious work. We eventually changed rooms again for safety reasons and were now upgraded to a better room which was a nice gesture. The only blip there was an electric shock when turning on the bedside lamp.
So I'm left saying overall the fundamental quality of the rooms we were in was poor. The road noise is simply unacceptable for a "5 star" hotel no matter what room you are in and having to pack and unpack everything up 3 times was a real pain.
The food and drinks were good in general but little cost cutting details which reduced the quality were evident. For example when asking for a banana smoothie they would pour in some concentrated banana from a bottle instead of putting in a banana to the smoothie maker. Sometimes your pina colada would be drawn from a slushie machine! Again for a 5 star hotel - this is not good enough! In fact all the tropical fruit was poor, the pineapple was always so pale and unappealing, the melon was bland, there were never any fresh bananas to eat, how do you get tropical fruit so wrong in Jamaica!
There were certainly positives though, the staff were lovely, the food was good (not excellent), the desserts were very good. The water activities were really good and included, the golf was included but they left out some pretty important information that you had to hire a caddy and after hiring clubs you were looking at 100USD to play golf so that felt a bit cheeky.
The beach was lovely, very calm sea if that's what you are looking for. The majority of cocktails were really good, just the pina colada was really poor! The pools were nice and the general service was really good as well.
So overall pretty disappointing honeymoon, this place was no where near worth the money they're charging. Fundamental issues with the rooms and quality issues highlighted which could be so easily fixed with a bit of investment.

It’s a pretty quiet resort. The main restaurant has a night show and there’s a piano bar but there’s no theatre per se. All the acts we saw were pretty good.

Yes, for sure. You probably won't get brand new balls...but playable. If you're attached to your own racquet, pack it. That's what most of the more serious players who visit do. But they have a bunch of loaner racquets at the sports desk to choose among if you're not so picky.
