Sandals Royal Plantation is often celebrated for its stunning ocean views and diligent butler service, though some guests find the rooms could benefit from modernization. The hotel's serene location is ideal for those seeking tranquility, and the access to neighboring Sandals Ochi's facilities is a notable perk. Despite the high praise for the exceptional cleanliness and the hotel's enchanting atmosphere, there are concerns about the value, with a number of guests questioning the resort's price point relative to their experience.

We stayed at Sandals Royal Plantation January 19 – 27, 2023. This was our 8th stay at this resort and is our favorite Sandals. They have made some nice upgrades to the property since our stay a year ago, but have a long way to go to bring this place back up to luxury standards. We stayed in the Royal Monarch room, which is the category we have always stayed in. Come on Sandals, it is way beyond time to remodel these rooms! They are in serious need of updating. Our room this time was not good at all. The furniture was dirty and worn, the AC not properly functioning, the sink and tub would not drain properly, water pressure was poor, and there was mold in the pictures on the walls. In addition, there was an adjoining door to the next room and we could hear everything going on in the that room, which means they could probably also hear us. If at all possible, I recommend avoiding room 359. Other than the room, everything here was just as great as what we’ve always experienced. Wonderful service, as always. The staff here is the best, always friendly and attentive. It feels like coming home to family each time we return. Immaculately maintained grounds throughout the resort. The new seating area in front of the terrace area is a nice new feature that we really enjoyed. The service and food were great at all the restaurants. We loved the new balcony seating area for the French restaurant and the remodeled indoor space at the Terrace. We were glad to see the Jamaica night buffet back in all its glory with so many wonderful dishes to choose from. We enjoyed all of our meals and the elegant atmosphere here can’t be beat. With the new option to take a shuttle for dinner at the new Sandals Dunn’s River property, there is even more dining variety available now too. The evening entertainment was some of the best out of all our trips here. We enjoyed the musical performances each night after dinner. We also enjoyed playing pickleball a few mornings to get in some exercise and used the gym a few times too. While small and basic, the gym is adequate for the # of guests here. The aqua aerobics that used to be so much fun here is underwhelming now, though. The staff was not eager to lead this activity and didn’t even show up for it one day. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here and will be back later this year. We just hope that improvements to the rooms begin soon because we can’t continue to justify the price for the condition they’re in now. Sandals, please give this resort some TLC!

Hotel's Favorite
Stayed Feb 14 – Feb 22 Our 5th stay and it was as good as ever. Food was terrific (though 100% would say skip Kimonos at Ochi, it was horribly salty, on top of the drenching of soy sauce during the cooking, a liberal amount of actual table salt was also used. There was absolutely ZERO entertainment during the cooking of the meal. As in, the “chef” literally dumped food items on the hot grill and spread them around until they were overdone and served. That was it. Don’t waste your time and go to the French restaurant on property instead – we weren’t the only ones to have this experience). As always the beach butler service was impeccable. Kudos to Romaine, Daniello and Trevardo! These men are such an asset. Always willing to sit and chat a moment and are quite quick considering the ground they have to cover. Damar and Yashawn!!!! You guys rock!!! Fun nights of Karaoke and Piano sing alongs at the Peacock will forever live in our memories! 😉 no more Sweet Caroline! LOL The new DJ, forgive his name escapes me, is AWESOME! He know how to read a crowd. If it seemed like everyone was talking, he kept the music level low. If he played a song that people wanted to dance to, he turned it up. A TRUE ASSET!!!!!!! That is a hard thing to do and our last visit the DJ just played what he wanted to hear. This man would "test" a variety of songs to see what the crown responded to. A rare find! Mr. Nugent, give him a raise! All of our stays, (all five) have been with Chadsworth and he has become a friend and his new partner Adrienne is the best! Woop Woop 😉 The spa was great as usual, I had 2 massages and a facial and enjoyed them all. I just wish I could remember their names! But I had massage fog, so you know what that means. The higher ups, look up my name, room 101 and you will see them. All of the staff at meals were wonderful. Sorry I can’t remember names but the fellow that served dishes on his head at the terrace was a delight and I think the gal that is a manager with the longer hair, she is a true gem. Crocodile, Uton and Bobby are never without a smile or joke and most certainly something tasty in hand at the Peacock, these guys rock and give 100%. It is obvious they care about the quality of the drinks they send out (take a close look and you will see them dip a clean spoon into a drink and drizzle it on the back of their hand to sample it to make sure it is right) not to mention the pride they take in the bar. The way they clean it, yes we closed it down a night or two, is just phenomenal. My husband, who is very detail oriented, noted on just how far they go in the extra mile to make sure the bar is clean and well maintained. The gardens. Just amazing. Take the time to notice the behind the scenes workers. Who to be honest are always in plain sight but no one seems to notice. True masters at their craft. The sports guys… if you travel at this time of year, expect red flags. It is nothing they can help, it is the tides and wind. But they do keep the beaches clean and are always restocking towels and such and when the weather permits, will take you on the Hobie and provide kayaks and such. Not their fault it is “winter” in Jamaica. If you want a calm Caribbean sea, don’t book this time of year. That is on the guest to do their due diligence. Honestly to complain when Mother Nature is doing her thing is completely absurd. Housekeeping was awesome! You can certainly notice that they take the time to note where your things are and put them back exactly where they were. An amazing attention to detail. Georgia in loyalty and travel. Just the best! Go and see her and rebook. Now onto the WORRY PART!!!! I doubt the upper management (and by upper I don’t mean Mr. Nugent, he certainly does, but at the corporate level – read here the heir; Adam, to Butch’s legacy). I understand the need to make your mark. I truly do understand that. (and you are doing that with Dunns River, booked here myself for 6 months after opening. This place is going to something great!) Having said that, the rumors they are flying. To add anywhere from 40 to 80 rooms is ludicrous. There is literally no room. Has no one from corporate been to the lovely 2 beaches? Where would you put another 80 to 160 people???? I agree that another a pool would be a good idea and if you could put in another restaurant that would be a wonderful addition. But over the water bungalows??? This is the only true 5 star resort in the chain (do your internet homework and you will see what I mean) to turn it into something that resembles all the rest… is just sad. At the return dinner, Mr. Nugent proudly claimed that us returning guests made up 70% of the guests. Yes, we all do love it that much. My husband remarked that maybe the goal of Sandals was to run us all off and others would take our place and never know what a special place this truly was. I think he is right. Sometimes in the pursuit of the all mighty profit, you ruin it. You take away something that was part of the soul of the original business. I can get behind a son making it his own. I can’t get behind a family member trying to erase all that came before him. It is true that rooms need updated, but based how long this place has been neglected in that regard and yet we still keep coming back says something about the soul of it. A true Jamaican gem in a sea of “just like the others”. While these are all rumors, it is our fear this is where things are headed and like myself and countless other return guests, we did not re-book here. We are all taking a “wait and see” approach. Mr. Adam Stewart, I am speaking to you directly. (Though I doubt you will ever even see this)... Do not take away the very being of this place. Resorts geared towards solely honeymooners (who trust me will become repeat guests because of the sentimentality) and to be honest, yes, us “older” guests, are NOT found anywhere in Caribbean. At least not that cater to all budgets. You have something special here. It is perfectly fine and to be honest, update it. Even charge us all a bit more. We are willing to pay for it. Do not change the very essence of the place by adding more rooms just to pad your wallet. None of your other 16 resorts can cater to the exact the clientele I mentioned above. More importantly NO OTHER resort on Jamaica can say that either. You have a niche here. Don’t spoil it. I am pretty sure that us 70% keep this property in the red. Put your stamp on it. Update the bathrooms, add a pool or a restaurant. Simply adding more rooms is not the way to go about it. That will change the very essence of it. The excat thing that makes this property a stand out among your other properties. To be honest this property is a true gem in a sea of typical all inclusive resorts. Hoping this doesn't fall on deaf ears, MAK, Emerald member

We took our first Sandal trip to Royal Plantation last month and it was all we hoped for and more!I’ve never felt so pampered. Every guest at SRP gets a butler team. We had Andre and Tamara and they went above and beyond with reservations, food requests and even drew me a flower pedal bath💕. We never would have found this perfect place if it weren’t for our Travel agent Dan Merced (Dan Dals on Facebook). He is the best! He worked tirelessly to find us the best deal and kept finding us upgrades! He even found us the perfect flight and recommended club mobay which helped us through immigration and customs.

Our Butlers Bebeato and Marvin were extremely attentive, ensuring all our needs were covered. They thought ahead and anticipated that any future needs were covered. We could not have wished for more. They are a credit to Sandals All beach butlers ensure that your glass is topped up frequently throughout the day. Nataki has a great singing voice and would not appear out of place on a Broadway or West End stage. There are also some up-and-coming stars such as Waiter, Danar who is destined for the Entertainment Department (!) and Nigel the trainee Waiter who is also a credit to you. All food in the restaurants is freshly prepared and delicious. We arrived shortly after a pretty destructive storm which is clearly out of the control of the resort, but Sandals did all that they could to minimise any disruption to the guests. The dressing area in the room was a little damp and as a consequence, our clothes smelt a little musky by the end of the stay. A dehumidifier in each of the affected rooms might be a good idea. Finally, the decor in the bathroom is a little dated. These points, in the scheme of things were nothing that ruined the enjoyment of our holiday however, and would not stop our return one day. Overall, it is very easy to see why so many people return to this resort given the service that it has to offer and this is certainly one of the best resorts we have stayed in from our travels.

This hotel is a favourite of ours. Better customer service cannot be found anywhere. The staff were so attentive to our every need. It was AMAZING! From the check in experience with Damian and Chris-Ann to the personalized Butler Service from Bebeato and Marvin, everything was top notch! I cannot describe how our every need was anticipated and taken care of without prompting from us. For example, Chris-Ann at the front desk noted when I said to my husband in passing I was really feeling for chocolate chip cookies and within a few minutes she appeared at the lounge where we were sitting with a whole plate full of chocolate chip cookies. Bebeato and Marvin pulled out all the stops daily. While Stefanie from the beach bar kept our bellys and our glasses full. Angeleke at the pool made sure we had our favorite drinks every day and Daeton at the French restaurant made me want to eat there every night. The spa is world class. Tiffany and Garth made sure we were able to easily book our spa sessions and tennis lessons. While Diana gave me the best massage of my life. All in all it was a great time and my husband fully enjoyed his birthday. From the room being beautifully decorated to the best service we have ever had! We will be going back soon!!

We have been enjoying Royal Plantation since before Sandals took over. I’m afraid budget is being cut, food wise And I feel like its a bit tired for newcomers , instead of water rooms , how about an update ? We have come enough to like it even with its flaws We were upgraded , as our room we booked wasn’t an option. Missed the little things

We love Jamaica and have been here 14 times now staying at a variety of resorts. We stayed for 10 days for the first time at this picturesque resort complete with butler service that far exceeded our expectations. We had a late arrival and we were warmly greeted by staff and shown to our oceanfront room. We went to the Wobbly Peacock Pub for a bite to eat and “Crocodile” cheerfully arranged for us to have sandwiches which weren’t on the menu. Unfortunately for me, I woke up early the next day in excruciating pain in my lower leg that had not been there before. After a day in bed and no relief, I saw Nurse Williams, the nurse on duty, who quickly and skillfully arranged for a visit to a radiology clinic for X-rays and an ultrasound. She went above and beyond her duties to accompany us to the clinic and smoothed the way for us as this was the first time that we had to do this in Jamaica. She is a lovely, caring person who checked on me throughout our stay. Nurse Williams arranged for the clinic doctor come to see me and I was prescribed medications to help with my pain. As I was unable to walk, I was able to use one of the resort wheelchairs for the entire stay. It is unfortunate that many parts of the resort are not wheelchair accessible although I did learn later that there are 2 accessible rooms. It was a bit of a challenge to maneuver in our room due to the physical design and I had to rely on my husband for a lot of assistance. The doorways into the bathroom and closet were too narrow for the wheelchair. I was only able to access one restaurant and I could not go to the beach or pool. I have to say though that several staff volunteered to carry me down to the beach! The resort staff were fantastic in accommodating my needs as best as possible. Our butlers, Duwainey and Richard were wonderful and made sure that we could enjoy our stay as much as we could. They checked on us to make sure we had everything we needed or wanted, brought us food and drinks to the room (or wherever we happened to be), and regularly checked on my well being. Because of them, we were able to order from the other restaurants and enjoy these meals at the Terrace restaurant (which was accessible). They were friendly, caring and professional all at the same time. It seemed like no task was to big or small for them to do. The lovely Nareesha ensured that our room was spotless and Mikala (not sure if I spelled this correctly) provided us with superb and attentive service in the evening at the Terrace restaurant. Stephanie was a friendly server who always had a smile and she made sure I had what I needed as I ordered from the a la carte menu for breakfast. Christopher kept ore room fridge well stocked with our preferred beverages. The evening entertainment in the resort was very professional and fun! I apologize for not remembering everyone’s names but the two main staff were awesome. The entertainment started fairly early and was on the terrace - this made it possible for us to fully enjoy it. There were activities in the Wobbly Peacock but I was not up to late nights this trip. We had some strange weather that we hadn’t experienced in Jamaica before and it seems that Mother Nature has a mind of her own! The beaches at the resort are quite small and on the nice days, there did not seem to be enough chairs or shade. Plus, it is very frustrating when guests go down and “reserve” their spots for the entire day. This usually happens at some of the larger, more crowded resorts and we did not expect to see this here. It wasn’t an issue for us but only because I couldn’t access the beach! I have thought of a way that could allow for beach access for disabled persons but I haven’t shared this with resort management. Overall our stay was pretty wonderful, hence the 5 stars. With some changes for accessibility it could be 5+ stars.

This was our second time to The The Royal Plantation and we loved it just as much the second time as the first time back in 2016. Both times we have felt so welcomed and right at home at this resort. The staff is really what makes this place amazing we had so much fun with the great bartender Garnet aka Crocodile and staff at the Wobbly Peacock, Chevon at the Papillon restaurant, Jessica and I believe Ordain at the Loyalty Desk. These are just a few, the beach butlers were also great and attentive. Rooms were very clean and well attended! I'm sure this will not be our last stay at the Royal Plantation!
