Hotel's Favorite
My husband and I visited this Sandals resort for the first time in April 2018, after having vacationed at the Royal Bahamian in Nassau, Bahamas twice, and falling in love with Sandals. We had an absolute blast at Sandals Ochi, and the resort grounds were beautiful and the staff were superb. We stayed on the Riviera, or Beachside, with a stunning view of the beautiful Caribbean waters and mesmerizing sunsets, in a Butler suite for 4 days, and then on the Hillside in a Butler suite for the remaining 3 days of our trip. This resort was perfect for us, as we love being active and social. There is always something going on, with so much entertainment, even poolside. One of our favorite nights is Beach Carnival night. The restaurants and food on the resort are exquitisit, as is our experience thus far at all Sandals Resorts that we have visited. In our opinion, you can't really go wrong with Sandals! We met so very many wonderful people from everywhere, including the awesome resort staff. The very next April (2019) we made a return visit to Ochi to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. We again, LOVED EVERY MINUTE of our 7 days there, and we have another trip booked. If you are looking for an exciting, fun and entertaining resort, this is the place. While there, a visit to Dunn River Falls is a must. (if you are in good shape and/or not fearful to hike)

We had to be moved from The Hill Side, to the Sea Side, because we needed an elevator. It was like going from Buckingham Palace to the projects. When making my reservation, I let them know that I needed to be on the first floor, if there wasn't an elevator, but we were put on the second floor, and had to be moved, due to the stairs. The workers catered to the Caucasian visitors, and I felt as though everyone should be afforded the same type of service. Pictures throughout the resort were of Caucasians, and I, as well as the other people from the wedding party, felt as though our presence was not welcome there.

Everyone was so polite and the food was so good. I wish my trip was longer but I had to get back to work. I love the entertainment you have some talent workers. When ever I go to Jamaica I will be booking with sandals. Only problem I have is they don’t have a resort for kids.

Let me start off by saying I am a big fan of Sandals and Sandals Ochi. We have 99 nights with Sandals and this was our 5th trip to Ochi. I'm writing this review for a few different reasons. First is I feel like Sandals is going up in price and down in service and amenities. Sorry but this will be long I'm going to review two trips to Ochi in one review. Our last trip I just chalked up to a few bad experiences but now that I'm writing a review for this trip I figured I’d let people know how my last trip went. Our last trip was Oct. 2021. On this trip we rented a cabana at Ochi Beach Club pool which comes with a massage. We didn't get to the cabana until 11:00. The weather wasn't that great that day. Around 3:00 the massage therapist show up and informed us they would not be able to do our massages but if we wanted to book a massage they could add the time to that massage. We told them we already did a couples massage and would like them to take off the extra we paid for the cabana. Then one of the massage therapist said you guys didn't show up until 11:00 why would you pay for a cabana and not show up until 11:00. The first time she asked I answered her and told her early it was raining and was very overcast after that. She then said something about us paying for a cabana two more times One time saying she wished she had the money to pay for a cabana and not use it. That pissed me off and I told her what I do with my money is none of her business. We did talk to our Butler about this and got the money taken off but it made us feel like offering the massage was just a ploy to try and bait you into booking a massage. The girls selling bottles of wine got very annoying after the 20th time we were asked about wine. We did buy a bottle the first day we were there for our anniversary dinner maybe that's why they wouldn't leave us alone. Last thing for this trip we were at the beach near the Ocean Beach Bar and one of the servers had bluish/green drinks in his hand so I asked him what they were he told me they were his special drinks and he would bring me one. When he came back with the drink he told me that would be $20.00. I started laughing thinking he was joking and he said I'm not kidding I made it special. I told him Im not paying him $20.00 for a drink so he took the drink and walked away. I couldn’t believe that happened. Last thing that we found disturbing was we were at the Manor bar one night and one of the bartenders seemed to be very intoxicated he was slurring his words to the point you could barely understand him he spilled at least four drinks while trying to make them. Then got into an argument with a couple about the drinks he made for them. With all that being said we did have a good trip. Our butlers were great. Entertainment was fun not as good as it once was but enjoyable. Except for the few things I mentioned the staff was friendly and accommodating. This trip was for my daughters 30th birthday. Her and her boyfriend plans this trip on our recommendation. She has been hearing how great Sandals is for years. I booked this at the last minute to surprise her for her birthday. We flew in on Monday Sept. 12th. We didn’t arrive to the resort until 10:00pm check in went well. The next morning I went to the Manor pool to rent a cabana for my daughters birthday. I was able to rent one. Then went to the front desk and asked if she would call my butler so I could meet him. She asked me to have a seat and he would be there shortly. I’m not sure how long I waited but I got tired of waiting and walked back to my room to get ready for our cabana day. I called him around 11:00 to let him know where I was so we could meet. He finally showed up around 2:30. I called for a ride but he was on the other side and said he would call someone after about 15 minutes we just walked back to the room. The Hop seemed like it wasn't running. For the 3 full days we were there I was able to catch the Hop once. night for my daughters Birthday dinner she didn’t want to go to the restaurant her butlers had prearranged for them and was told the day before she would have to go somewhere that didn’t require reservation. He suggested Vista Sky. Neither of our butlers went with us to try and get us into this restaurant the only time they had was 8:30 and we weren't seated until 9:00. Sat at the bar and could see the restaurant was not full the two and a half hours we waited. Wednesday I hung out at the room most of the day because everyone else went on excursion. I think I heard from the butler once that day. I had a massage at 3:00 which was great. That night we had dinner reservations at Kimonos we were seated shortly after arriving and our orders were taken shortly after that. We then waited almost an hour for our appetizers to arrive. When the Chef got there he introduced himself and ask about special occasions. And never spoke to the table again. No egg toss, no fire on the grill no interaction with the table at all. He didn’t even ask how we wanted our steak. One couple asked for no egg in there rice and he mixed all the rice with the egg. It took me three excuse me each one a little louder to tell him I wanted my steak well done. My daughters boyfriend was so excited about this restaurant and it was a complete let down. The next day our last full day we never heard from our butlers not even once. My daughter and her boyfriend ate at Kelly’s Dockside. They said they waited over 45 minutes to get their appetizers. Then another 45 minutes to get their meal. They had wanted to go to the Rabbit Hole and see the band but it was over by the time they were finally done eating. We went to the Southern Table that night and waited 40 minutes while they were setting up a table for a large group. Nobody even came over to say we’ll be right with you. The couple behind us left. I rushed through my meal because I wanted to listen to the steel pan but that didn’t happen. We made it in time and the guy was there finally I went up to where he was and asked if he was going to play and he said he couldn’t because Sandals equipment wasn’t working. He did apologize. We were at Royal Bahamian May 2022 and Grenada the end of August They both went better but still not up to what I consider Sandals standards. I’ll do a review of them. We have two more vacations already booked but after that we may have to start looking for another resort.

We chose Sandals, for two main reasons, one, having been before to Antigua, we knew the ‘brand’ (and liked it)….. secondly, for my husband who is a scuba diver, the free two dives a day is a big plus. Having read the reviews, we were not expecting glitter and rosebuds - we know this resort is one of the older ones –so went eyes open. Overall, we had a good holiday. We fell in love with Jamaica and the Jamaican people – inside and outside of the resort. BUT, some of the niggles we had, did put a damper on our experience. The resort is large, with two main areas – the ‘Hillside’ and ‘Beachside’. We were in the beachside, and I cannot complain about the location. Yes, there are lots of steps, but, within 5 minutes, wherever your room, you can be at any of the three beaches (more on that later), or the bars/restaurants on this side. We only went to Hillside a couple of times to eat (using the resort ‘hop’ bus which are very regular), so can’t comment on what is there. We were in a honeymoon bungalow – and whilst the room was large and comfortable and on the surface very presentable, it reality, it really needed some attention. For example, there was no plug in the sink, a leak in the roof which dripped water on my clothes, the drawer bottoms were falling apart, the iphone dock didn’t work, the coffee machine didn’t work, the tv remote didn’t work, and perhaps the most concerning was the sliding doors were difficult to lock – clearly the cleaners thought so too, as we checked every day before we left they were, and when we returned (assuming they had been) they were unlocked….. We did report some of these and where they could, they were resolved, but it really needed more than a sticking plaster to ensure the rooms were up to standard. We went Club (having been Luxury before). The concierge service was a real benefit when sorting reservations and asking questions (if nothing else to benefit from the brilliant air con in the lounge) We didn’t use room service but it’s a great option to have. The main niggle was the lack of replenishment of drinks in the mini bar. I am a wine drinker, and I had to ask five times for a bottle to be put in the fridge. Housekeeping did a good job keeping the room clean (although somewhat annoying when they turn up at 530pm so you feel obliged to banish yourself to the balcony). Our bungalow was not in the best position – right next to the Theatre – and we are early birds – but to be fair the shows stopped at 10pm so really wasn’t too much of an issue. The restaurants were disappointing by our expectations. Obviously food tastes vary – but, for us the obsession with mashed potato, the lack of chips (I cant believe I am saying that), and limited ‘side’ options was a shame. The service was mixed – not because the staff didn’t care, but because they clearly were at times understaffed. The lunch offer was much better – all those on beach side were fab – but often you had to wait 40 mins or so before your food arrived. The option to grab a quick snack (hotdog, burger, sarnie etc) wasn’t there which woud have made a huge difference. Bars were great – how they remember all those cocktails I have no idea! But again, a simple addition of some nuts/pretzels etc would have been nice, especially when waiting for your tables. The beaches are small but each had its own personality, but we found our spot in the waters port beach – the lapping the waves, the azure waters and the shade from the trees was pure heaven! However, if you wanted the option of shade or sun, there were very few umbrellas, and these were quickly snapped up by tower hoggers by 8am. As we went on one of the quietest weeks, I wouldn’t want to be looking for a sunbed in peak season – Sandals needs to set up some kind of process for encouraging people to only reserve them if they intend to use them within the next few hours. The entertainment wasn’t our ‘thing’ -but, from what we saw the vocal artists were amazing – clearly they employ professional entertainers. Finally the scuba diving – Great if you want to do a course- but, my husband wanted to do the advertised two dives a day as an advance diver, and was disappointed that the option was only there for three days. You could not book more than a day in advance and in booking, you had to call around 8am for the next day as the spaces filled up so quickly. Not a great process and I am sure one that could easily be improved. SO, to summarise – it was a good holiday – but, I wont be returning to Sandals Ochi, and tbh, I think we will try another company next time…………

Just stayed at Sandals Ochi and loved our trip here. We stayed for a week in a room overlooking the ocean that had a balcony (Riviera Honeymoon Beachfront Club Level - HB). Our vacation was fun and relaxing. We didn’t partake in any excursions as we only wanted to lay by the beach. Sandals was fantastic. This was our third trip so we had some familiarity with how things worked. Pros - lots and lots of activities on the resort - Club Concierge handled all our needs amazingly - ample beach and pool space - restaurants were good (especially Valentinos) - day and night tennis available. On the beachside there are two hard courts and on the hillside there is one harcourt and two Pickleball courts) Cons - the 90 minute bus ride to the resort felt long after flying to MBJ - late nights sweets are hard to come by - the climbing wall wasn’t available to use And now for the praise for all the wonderful staff we encountered: Judy - our housekeeper who was so helpful with accommodating us coming and going when she was cleaning. Gave us help for toilet issues and kept our room well-stocked. Extra towels were a lifesaver and the evening turndown service made for a romantic setting to come to each evening. Aaliyah - kept the beach and pool fun and happening. Saw her at the various evening activities too and had a blast. Joel - beach volleyball was a great break from swimming in the ocean. Glad he pulled me away because I had a lot of fun. Miguel - when we rented poolside cabanas he was attentive and always available for our drink and food orders. Even when we had extra requests he went out of his way to help. Chadwick and Sheldon - took great photos of us and made it a fun time. Chris - the tennis instructor. Learned so many good tips to help my game. Loved his passion and ability to give simple suggestions that made a big difference

Sandals Ochi is the place to go!  The ambiance is great, the staff is very polite, the service and food are excellent, and they have excellent restaurants and sports facilities. While I was there, I did my PADI Scuba diving certification, it was a fantastic experience, the instructors were real pros and super friendly. They have a well equip scuba diving center. You can dive every day if you want. Regarding the other sports facilities, the gym is very well equipped and the tennis court is in very good condition. The tennis instructor is also a very good trainer and player. We also participated in the Blue Mountain Bicycle Tours.  It was a great experience and lots of fun. I recommend it if you want to escape the resort and see what Jamaica's nature looks like.

There was quite a few things we were dissatisfied with at Sandals Ochi. #1 - the building is very old, the rooms are pretty small and there are stains on the carpets in the hallways and the ceiling was leaking on multiple floors (no rain the whole week we were there) #2 - we got there at 10 am and they told us they would try to get into our room early, they did not. Check in is at 3pm and we understand this, but 20+ couples came in after we had gotten there and every single one of them got their room before us (which was extra crappy as I told them I needed a private room to pump my breastmilk and they didn’t have one, so I was in pain by the time we got to our room) they told us that the room needed to be cleaned but around 2pm they said it was cleaned they were just waiting for the floors to dry, yet we still didn’t get in the room until 3pm. #3 - once we got to our room and got everything unpacked we went to take a shower (because we were super sweaty from waiting in the humid hot weather for 4 hours) and the shower didn’t work, the faucet broke when we tried to turn the shower on. I called and asked for another room, we had to way A WHOLE HOUR before they finally got us into our new room because apparently that one also needed to be cleaned. #4 - the worst part of the whole trip is that their schedule for games / actives was wrong half of the time! Example : We wanted to do Minute to Win It which stated at 1pm, when we went to the other side to play the game it wasn’t happening. We were about to head back to the beach side and noticed they started playing it at 145! So 45 minutes later. Another example : we wanted to do “Tie and Dye” which was tie dying shirts. I was very excited for this, we went to the location it said it was on their board and at the right time and they again were not doing it. We asked around and someone finally said “oh it’s Thursday, that’s in hill side” even though all of their information said that it was on the beach side. When we questioned this they didn’t care that it was on the opposite side and gave no apologies. #5 - the 2 different areas was a little annoying. It’s nice they have constant transportation every 10 minutes to the sides but it’s frustrating that you have to take it to get there. Also a lot of the drivers would drive pretty crazy and rush through to the point where multiple people would be worried for their safety while they were driving. There’s a lot of curves and steep hills around and they FLEW.

Hello and thank you for sharing your review of Sandals Ochi. We are disheartened to learn that there were some elements that put a damper on your time with us. We have taken note of your comments, especially the ones that are structural in nature, as we will be relaying this back to resort management for consideration. We appreciate you for bringing these concerns to light, as we are always willing to work with our guests to make sure they walk away feeling like their stay was money well spent. We only hope that you would permit the more positive aspects of your experience to outweigh any dismay you may have felt as we would like nothing more than for another opportunity to surpass your expectations during your next trip.
