I was very excited to go to DR somewhere different than Punta Cana so booked this hotel, I booked it direct and got a better deal. We flew to Santo Domingo and hotel.arranged for us private transfer as it us a 2.5 hour drive. We got there easy check in process - We stayed in Seaview room in bldg F which is the best. The room is a bit outdated, but we had everything we needed. Now let me start: keep in mind that I travel all over the world and this my 3rd all inclusive this year alone between different Carribean countries. PROS: the view from the room is amazing, the sound of the ocean is non stop and very enjoyable. Weather was as perfect as it can get June 16- June 24. Pretty small hotel which I loved, not a problem to get a beach chair or pool chair. Very clean grounds. As everyone else mentioned this is not a party hotel, you won't see drunk people all over the property. Beach: I don't get people who complained about this beach. It's amazing, very private, 330 meters of it, .plenty of shade, water was super clear, not a seaweed or stone is the water or on the beach, all sand. Water was very warm and you just didn't want to get out. Service from the beach bar was good. A BIG plus is the free shuttle and boat service which takes tourists to Cayo Levantado aka Bacardi island from 8.40 am till 1 pm. That island is the piece of paradise, we loved going there the water is just unbelievable. 24 hour room service was a good bonus. Cons: Food there is a main buffet and 3 a la carte restaurants. Buffet was ok,pretty small, don't expect anything special, but you won't be hungry. I kind of got tired of the same foods in 8 days but it is what it is. Italian restaurant didn't impress me,Brazilian also. Since I was working from my room every morning I wish they had normal breakfast included in the room service, but you can only get fruits and pastries in the morning and i wasn't happy about it as I don't eat pastry or fruits. Entertainment: nothing special, pretty average, bingo at the pool( that's the only one I enjoyed everyday), some other games here and there. Evening entertainment was ok, some live music, karaoke, the best was circus that was pretty fun to watch. Overall, very quiet, relaxing vacation, I would definitely come back. If you are hesitant about booking, as I was, please don't be,you will enjoy it very much. I wish I could give it 5 not 4,but there is always a room for improvement.

This is our third time to the Bahia Principe Luxury Samana and our first trip since Covid. I had originally booked us to go 2 years ago and the pandemic lockdown happened 2 weeks prior so the trip was cancelled. We booked for February this year and I had emailed to ask for a special request, I received a response within hours. Due to a health issue...again had to cancel...but were able to re-book three weeks later and again I emailed the hotel for the same request...they again answered within hours. We downloaded the app and were able to start booking our dinners 3 days before arrival which was amazing! We used the app to pre register as well and when we arrived at the resort we were greeted immediately and given a loyalty bracelet (3rd time visiting) which I believe allows for discounts in the store (we forgot to use it when we purchased extra sun screen but that's our fault lol) and then we were taken to our room. Within 5 minutes we had exited the bus and were in our room. As we were returning guests we got an amazing room, it was huge...a happy Birthday sign on the door as this was originally supposed to be a Birthday Whale watching trip, and a chilled bottle of champagne. It was an amazing greeting and we were told "welcome Home" by the concierge. We have travelled to many high end resorts that are modern and lovely, but there is something about this hotel that we just love...it has so much charm and because of that we didn't notice the little bits of tired decor...we actually love the colonial style over the modern resorts. The honest points, the bathroom was outdated and the tub looked tired...but I wasn't there for the bathroom. Although all rooms pretty much have an amazing view, we were right over the pool with huge double windows that allowed us to occasionally enjoy some of the evening entertainment from our room. The balcony was on the side of the room between the 2 buildings, but still had an excellent ocean view. The sanitary measures were impeccable...even though the DR has dropped the mask mandates...all staff were fully masked at all times. Hand sanitizer had always been available at the buffet even before the pandemic which I always appreciated, and was everywhere on this trip, when you enter the buffet you are given a dab...everyone is, and this time they also gave you a disposable glove to touch the common utensils etc. while getting food. The only fault in this plan is the people who didn't use the gloves or didn't use them correctly...using both hands and touching everything, some people didn't wear the masks correctly either although the hotel made it mandatory in the restaurants, but this was rare and definitely not the fault of the hotel, they made every attempt to keep everyone safe. Restaurants - We noticed a fairly substantial difference in the selection of the food in the buffet and a small difference in quality since our last visit, but understanding they have just come out of the pandemic it was still good and there was always something yummy to eat. The dress code wasn't as enforced as I would have liked as I enjoy dressing up and feeling a bit more upscale than the people attending a la cartes in t-shirts and shorts with flip flops...again...not the fault of the hotel, and after a pandemic, I'm sure they have to pick their battles. I love the fresh juices in the morning and my coffee cup was never empty. By the third day the breakfast chef saw my husband and started making his sunny side up eggs before he even had to ask. The a'la Cartes were good with the exception of the Italian...it was just ok. The Don Pablo was great and my husband loves the Rodizio...my only complaint at the rodizio was the meat isn't seasoned and being fairly open air the salt didn't really work, but everything was well cooked and I loved the plantain and yucca chips with the papaya dip that they bring to every table as a starter. I'm sure my husband would have eaten there every night. The service everywhere was exceptional and we didn't have one example of less than perfect and friendly staff. We didn't catch our maids name but she was amazing and our mini bar and towels were always replenished and she was always super friendly when we saw here in the hall. Some of the exceptional staff members to mention were, Yoarlin was our pool bartender everyday and he was amazing! As a picky Caesar drinker I bring my own Clamato Rimmer and very quickly he learned how I liked my Caesars and made them for me exactly. he was so excited that I left the Rimmer which was almost full to treat the next batch of Canadians to the same. He knew by day 2 I like a Caesar or two in the morning and switch to Gin and Tonic in the afternoon, he also learned that I don't love Beefeater Gin...the first day he asked which Gin I would like (there were 3 choices that day) and I told him Beefeater gave me headaches so any other gin would due. He always made sure there was Tanqueray or Gordons available everyday after that, even going to get me some from another bar one day when he had run out of Tanqueray and only had beefeater. This was not me being picky or asking for this...this was him remembering what I had said day one that I would prefer the others. Jose in the buffet was great and we remembered him from our previous trips and my husband and he shared a story about "The Big Sexy" being there on our last visit. Carlos at Don Pablo was fantastic and was quick with the wine! The house wine was just fine so we never felt the need to purchase bottles and we are fairly specific with wine (only red, so I can't speak to the white wine quality). Last we loved Nerfri from the entertainment team. We weren't big joiners, preferring to just relax and observe mostly, but he always was friendly and made sure we knew what was going on, but didn't push us to take part when we declined. We did Bingo (I won coffee), beanbag toss on the beach, and ring toss. The nightly shows were all good...except maybe the karaoke night lol. The best asset of this hotel is the boutique feel and the personal attention from the amazing and friendly staff, this will keep us coming back to the Bahia Principe Luxury Hotels...next stop...Sian Ka'an.

Celebrated our 46th, April 24th. Once again the food was varied, bountiful and tasty. The drinks were delish especially the caesars with Clamato. Resort was super clean and sanitized regularly. The staff are to be commended. Considerate, professional, funny and compassionate. Staff at all levels went out of their way to make this a very memorable and relaxing vacation. This was our second time and will not be our last. Please tip all staff as they work long hours always with a smile on their face.

The resort is not your typical huge resort. It is quiet and relaxing. but don't think there is nothing to do. The animation team do a great job keeping the people entertained and happy. The rooms are spacious and clean. The hotel is kept clean and well manicured. The food is always hot and excellent variety for everyone. The workers at the resort make sure you have everything you need and they are the reason i will be returning to this little Gem !

We usually book a Bahia resort because we really like them and this resort did not disappoint. The view was everywhere no matter where you went flowers, ocean, boats, all amazing. What made it the best were the people. At the a la cart which we were fortunate to have reservations for 5 nights please ask for Carlos. He is a Manager and we first met him at the Caya Coa in 2013. He has the most infectious laugh and a personality to match. He is the best!! Anything you want you get. Also Mariacarmen, Susan , Katerin waited on us hand and foot. The same waiters and waitresses were available for most meals. Breakfast and lunch buffet Ingrid, Maria, Julio, Eva, Jose, Candido also in the evening a la carte, Samuel, Alexandro, Deleiny so friendly, Mayleine, Eriginia, Adrain for coffee and drinks. Wilfredo at the pool bar for the most excellent drinks. Felix is the pool man and assisted everyday with the lounge chairs with grace and a smile. Nerfrie runs the entertainment crew and they were the best always getting the guests to play games or exercise.(He tried out for the Dodger baseball team) Afternoon cappuccino with Francia the best cappuccino in the Caribbean. The lobby bar for evening drinks ask for Virginia as we met her at the Cayo Levantado (twice) and is the best The meals were absolutely the very best. Buffet, al cart, or restaurant all equally as good. Koodos to the chef and the support staff. We went for a well deserved rest after so much covid. The staff always wore masks and went above and beyond. We were on the fourth floor in the most comfortable room with a very comfortable king bed. The maids were there to clean and bring fresh towels everyday, did a great job. The most amazing views I have ever seen everywhere, just stunning. The grounds were immaculate, flowers beautiful. The beach was smaller but very clean, and again the view was amazing. We will go back there again for sure. Koodos to the staff at this resort. Please tip them as they surely deserve it.

We recently returned from the Luxury GBP Samana. This is our 5th trip to this chain of Resorts. We were celebrating our 45th Wedding Anniversary and they truly looked after us. Banner on door and Champagne when we got there. I have a hard time using the star ratings as every traveler has their standards of what 4 or 5 star means. So I will just state that this resort exceeded OUR expectations. We read many of the other traveler posts which also gave this resort a high rating and we were not disappointed overall. I echo many of the positive comments with a few of my own. Remember for some, a huge positive, that this is a small resort with only 130 rooms. Food at Buffet and Restaurants - Delicious Resort - Super clean but as it is built along a mountain lots of stairs. Not a flat resort like in Punta Cana. Small beach but very clean. No seaweed or stones on beach or in the water!!! Bonus. Service and staff. Fantastic. Very Friendly. Resort is just off the road so daily noise with traffic. Not like other resorts that are off the main roads. Air Transit flight and ride to resort. On time and well handled. Entertainment day and night. Very well done. For upcoming travelers, remember that there is added documentation needed to get in and out. Shout Out to Management and Staff.!!!! We would return ASAP.

This is a very nice hotel. It would have been perfect if there was a bit more privacy. We were in building D,which is supposed to be the best and the road was like 10 meters from our door. Also when you are on the beach you can smell gasoline and cars are passing just above your head. You have to go to Cayo Levantado, which is not particularly quiet either, just too many people. The free shuttle just once a day,for half a day. Rincon Beach was beautiful but too far. Major surprise: could never get iced cappuccino. Staff didn’t seem to know what that was. They always brought hot cappuccino, sometimes ice cubes in a separate cup. Weird, was never an issue at Cayo Levantado or Cayacoa. The view from our room was amazing though.

This was a great hotel to re-kick my international vacations. The staff, customer service and attention to detail was some of the best I've EVER experienced. I cannot say enough about them - their guests are their priority. The rooms are spacious and clean, as well as the common areas spaces and grounds are well taken care of. As a smaller hotel it is very easy to navigate, however if you looking for a party scene, this hotel is more for the traveller looking for quiet, restful experience and an EXCEPTIONAL massage!! The buffet was pretty standard and acceptable, however the 3 restaurants provided a diverse and quality selection - you will not be disappointed. My 4 star rating is only because of the beach. It is extremely short and there were days the ocean was rough, making for swimming not ideal (definitely a location issue and not a hotel/staff issue). No issues with obtaining loungers either at the beach or pool. The night entertainment was diverse and I appreciated the efforts of the younger entertainers. As a Canadian a COVID test was required to return home and the one provided by Air Transat wasn't as 'sketchy' as previous reviews may have indicated - it was provided approximately 5 minutes from the resort, outside under a tent and with nursing personnel in full PPE (it was a unique experience I'm glad I was exposed to vs sitting inside a doctors office at the resort) and the Air Transat representative brought the sealed results the next morning (some visitors received their results via email the same day ... others did not - no big deal but I suppose that depends on your comfort level).

Stayed here Mar 5 to 12, 2022 after being moved from nearby BP Cayo Leventado which didn't open this year due to renovations. We were a bit sceptical whether this would measure up to Cayo Leventado but were pleasantly surprised. Room was great, beautiful ocean views, great food, no problem booking 5 al a cartes with the BP app. The Don Pablo and Italian restaurants were terrific, the buffets were great. One area that keeps appearing in earlier reviews is the beach, I love swimming in the ocean and thought the beach was great, lots of shade if you want it, lots of loungers but the beach does get narrow when the tide comes up. A bit disappointing that there are no water activities whatsoever. The only reason I didnt give this a five star was the site but nothing can change that fact, its very compact with not much real estate to walk around, minimal gardens. It was no bother to us but there are a lot of stairs to get anywhere and not at all suitable to anyone that has mobility issues. Regardless, everything was clean and perfectly maintained. What really sets this resort was the outstanding staff, the management should be proud of their team. Everyone was delightful but special recognition goes to Nerfri on the entertainment team, always engaging and encouraging to get guests to participate but knowing when to let them read their book. Candido in the restaurants who puts on his own show as sommelier. And Luis at the front desk who always went out of his way to assist. One word of advice to Transat travellers, if you require a Covid test, use the hotel's own on site testing and ignore the advice of the Transat rep who pushes her own sketchy side hustle
