Me an my husband were confused bc we never called about that, however we let them come and check it, we’ll they were moving the bed and actually trying to work in the room while we were trying to relax... However the room accommodations were just inconvenient and disturbing...

Finally after 4 persons checked the AC it was fixed but the room safe had to be reset several times during stay which I had to wait over an hour for them to get to my room and I had to wait in room for them... Also I had to call operator to connect me to my friends room because most of the time I had no connection thru my cell and if I sent a message it would get to them hours later...

    Very outdated rooms, food was below average not what you'd expect from a 5* resort, food was so bad we left the resort 3 nights to eat at the local mall. When we arrived the toilet in one of the rooms didn't work, maintenance came 3x to fix it but refused to move us rooms, Staff have no sense of urgency when you make a request or have an issue...

    In the room we received there was a water leak from the jacuzzi and the water in the toilet did not go down... When paying such a high amount per night, the minimum is to give the guests a room that is worthy of staying in... Another day we asked again and this time we insisted that they bring it to our room, they said they would and we waited from morning until evening until we called again and only then did they bring it after quite a long wait... We got some surprises in the room and it was really nice...

    ...This was are 4th stay at this hotel and the problems started at reception, we were booked to stay into a privilege De Lux room with a garden terrace. Reception tried to book us into a 3rd floor balcony room in the basic block, the excuse was that they were fully booked(an obvious Lie), we were put into a very basic room in the basic block for the first night with the promise that we would be moved the following day to the privilege block on the ground floor with a terrace... The move took place the following pm to a very poorly presented room, after contact with the TUI rep he introduced us to Natalie(room Manager) who was very helpful and moved us yet again to an acceptable room but still needed a lot of work done to it... T say any of the rooms were deluxe is a misrepresentation, sad to say we will not be returning to this hotel...

    ...The shops are slightly pricey but of course this is understandable being a resort and guests wanting to get souvenirs, I couldn't grumble... There are a fair few people walking about trying to sell excursions and items, I know these have to make a living to get money but they are extremely overpriced so definitely haggle to what you think the items are worth... Bring mostly USD as excursions etc are booked under that currency...

    We spent 8 days at this resort and we know we we will not return for one reason only-the ocean... It’s really unfortunate because the beach is lovely with lots of shade and comfortable lounge chairs and beds... For someone who was not interested to walk to main resort (we preferred to stay on adult side) it was disappointing... We paid extra for Privilege and it was a waste of money... We paid mainly for better beach accommodations but that of course was not used because of the condition of the ocean... We got 10% discount at the stores which were expensive anyway...

    ...Their was a 4 poster bed, which I don't see why they don't just put a normal bed in... I know their 5 star is at best our 4 star... Didn't try the sister hotel next door al la carte Restaurants as you had to book separately and when they were available it was 9.30pm which is too late for us... There were no local vendors stalls any time on the hotel complex whilst we were there, which was good as many hotels in the Dominican Republic do have these vendors evenings, and the sellers really hound you to buy some overpriced items...

    None of the employees at this resort appear to be happy... Oh well, there were always drinks from the bar, but the standard wine was pretty cheap and bland... The grounds were perfectly maintained and are quite nice... We made the best of it, but for the money, you can probably do much better...

I would not return to this resort, maybe I would if they reached out to us and offered us a stellar deal but I don't see that happening...

Avoid the Italian restaurant….total crap from the sour puss hostess to the chaotic service to the crappy food...     The food and drinks at this hotel were horrible... The liquor used in drinks is very cheap and watered down... Privileged rooms are a joke: bathtubs are just a large basin that takes almost two hours to fill, no jets... There are no other differences or perks you get for upgrading and paying more...

    We had a superb stay at the Catalonia Royal Bavaro, the hotel and grounds were gorgeous, rooms spacious and clean with lovely views, the pool areas were lively with plenty of sun beds... The staff were exceptional and so hard working, we arrived post hurricane Fiona and all the ground staff worked exceptionally hard to return the hotel and grounds back to relative normality...

    ...When we arrived we were told that the 2 rooms we booked in the Privileged condo were not available, they were over booked... They put us in a lesser room and offered us a $200 per room gift voucher at their little overpriced store... Complained to front desk that the door handle was loose and difficult to use... They called the front desk also and we were both told our problems would be rectified very soon... Finally talked to a manager and she promptly investigated and had the door fixed and the furniture replaced... Told her about the room debacle and she got us into the rooms we paid for...

The food was excellent and our servers (Albert and Lenin) were phenomenal…very attentive and enthusiastic... We enjoyed the various on site amenities including a massage at the spa, a catamaran ride from the on-site water sports kiosk and the evening entertainment... In addition, the large bath took between 30 and 45 minutes to fill up... Overall, for the great price of the holiday, it was a very enjoyable stay and exactly what was needed...

    ...When we arrived the toilet in one of the rooms didn't work, maintenance came 3x to fix it but refused to move us rooms, Staff have no sense of urgency when you make a request or have an issue. This is not a 5* resort, service and facilities do not reflect that of a 5* resort... The only positive was two members of staff who provided very good service and that was Robinson and Bladimir...

    ...When we asked them to fix the problem in the bathroom, it took a very long time for a man to come and even after he fixed the problem it came back, like that several times throughout our stay. When we asked for compensation from the reception staff, they said we don't deserve compensation!!... When paying such a high amount per night, the minimum is to give the guests a room that is worthy of staying in... In addition, we asked for wine glasses to be brought to our room and they told us to bring them ourselves from the dining room... Another day we asked again and this time we insisted that they bring it to our room, they said they would and we waited from morning until evening until we called again and only then did they bring it after quite a long wait...

    ...Some of the staff are extremely attentive and helpful. To name a few: Ashley at the pool bar is the sweetest lady who listens when you ask her not to make the drinks too strong... Dominga at the breakfast and lunch buffet is absolutely lovely, she goes above and beyond... Rosemary is very sweet and tries very hard, she will get very good with time... Martina at the steak house was the best waitress of the whole resort!!!!... All of the others need to take lessons from her, a true expert in the service industry!... Our housekeeper for the first week and a half was amazing!... We constantly had to ask for towels in our room... Avoid the Italian restaurant….total crap from the sour puss hostess to the chaotic service to the crappy food... At the start of our two weeks, there was a water problem throughout the resort, where we had no hot water or no water at all for days... Every day, we didn’t know if there would be hot showers, it was hit and miss... When my husband called to complain, they told him that it was being worked on and it wasn’t “their problem”!... During our first week, after an hour arguing with the manager, Natalea, the hotel did give us a free massage as compensation for the disadvantage, but that’s all... The massage was lovely, we must admit, but it didn’t make up for the cold or no showers... We complained to our WestJet rep, Daly who tried to get us more compensation from the hotel, but would only give us an excursion IF we gave up the massage... Our friends, who travelled with Tui, got the massages PLUS an excursion from their tour rep...

    ...We had a water issue for the first few days due to an issue with the mains supply I believe but had no water on arrival, then just cold and eventually hot water on day 3 which came and went for the duration of our stay... We enjoyed the restaurants we visited but were disappointed at some of the staff who I think didn't know how to smile and some of the food could have been hotter... Beach is ok, a lot of weed this year as very wind/rainy in the mornings for 5 out of 11 days, can't be helped and the beach staff did their best... Drinks and bar staff on the whole ok, but again some need to smile and engage a bit more...

    ...Upon arrival, we were greeted by a friendly receptionist and given a drink. We were taken to our room which we paid more to stay in the Privelidged rooms with our own pool/patio... We had to ask the front desk to please have our room service dishes removed from outside our door... We lost hot water one day and had to have someone come fix it... When we asked the front desk they informed us that the entire resort would be without water until 5:00... They brought us liquor to the room but no mixers l. When I called concierge they saud they could not bring us ice or mixers to our room...

    We stayed from 9th December until the 30th 2022. This was are 4th stay at this hotel and the problems started at reception, we were booked to stay into a privilege De Lux room with a garden terrace... Reception tried to book us into a 3rd floor balcony room in the basic block, the excuse was that they were fully booked(an obvious Lie), we were put into a very basic room in the basic block for the first night with the promise that we would be moved the following day to the privilege block on the ground floor with a terrace... The move took place the following pm to a very poorly presented room, after contact with the TUI rep he introduced us to Natalie(room Manager) who was very helpful and moved us yet again to an acceptable room but still needed a lot of work done to it... On a brighter note some staff are worth a mention for their service,- Natalie, All staff at the Sea Blue, Daniel and staff at the Piano Bar(Daniel makes a GR8 G & T)...

The pool areas were very nice, with plenty of chairs available... Without hardly any exceptions, the staff were very friendly, as opposed to the neighbouring hotel, who were not.... Most staff at the Royal could speak good English which really helps with the service... A particular mention to Ashley at the pool bar, who really excelled with service and friendliness...     People should be made aware that at your arrival you are met by either Roberto or Andy posing as concierges who are ready to make your vacation more enjoyable... The rest of the resort’s staffs were polite and very helpful...

Little extra touches that ate no longer done which we had on our last visit, a single flower in a vase in the bathroom, waiting to see how your towels were designed when you went back to your room... The staff were in the main very friendly, polite and helpful although there are one or two who look like they would rather be somewhere else...

The staff were accommodating, friendly and courteous The food was excellent and 6 a la carte's meant we had a different take each night so never got bored - Japanese, vegetarian and beach restaurant were pick... There is a coffee shop, casino and shops on site All in all a fabulous venue, with great staff and we were fortunate to miss the hurricane so weather was 30 plus daily...

We also had to ask for our complimentary slipper and dressing gown as they weren't in the room when we arrived... Also, I had to ask for extras coat hangers,they had 9 in the wardrobe... Entertainment: Low key but with some very good acts which only lasted from 8pm to 9.30pm... Nothing during the day except pool aerobics Restaurants: All were good for food and drink, and the service was somewhat hit and miss at times... Didn't try the sister hotel next door al la carte Restaurants as you had to book separately and when they were available it was 9.30pm which is too late for us... Garden: Well looked after with palm trees and plants, and the gardeners work hard to maintain... Lovely little messages and quiet areas... There were always plenty of sun lounges available, but around the pools, clients must be up at 5am to put their towels down... The family hotel next door did have them on Friday evenings...

    ...This is a beautiful resort with incredibly friendly staff. We had privileged access which I’m not sure was worth the extra money... The beach area would have been worth it, but we ended up getting a cabana by the pool (which we had to get up at 6am to reserve!)... Breakfast and lunch are buffets at the main restaurant and are awesome!... For dinners we loved being able to go to the family side restaurants and ended up at that dinner buffet multiple nights!... We also liked the little shops and coffee shop connecting the two resorts...

We upgraded to Privileged and I’m not sure it was worth the extra cost, besides having a small roped off area at the beach I don’t think we really benefited!...

    ...The grounds are beautiful and well maintained with many nice photo opportunities around the property. Our room faced the fountain pool which was a calming treat... There are 2 pools but we spent all of our time on the beach and pool closest to the beach... We had the privilege package so we were able to enjoy the beach closest to the beach bar and restrooms... Luis at the beach bar and Olminda walking around the beach were both fantastic!... We enjoyed the various on site amenities including a massage at the spa, a catamaran ride from the on-site water sports kiosk and the evening entertainment... I’m not a huge fan of the glass enclosed bathrooms but that’s just me... I would have liked some spirits but my water was restocked daily so I was happy... The family resort is a short walk away where there a many shops, a casino and more bars and restaurants to enjoy... Overall, this was a very enjoyable and relaxing trip!...

We had a privileged deluxe room, and it is just a bit dated, but also the shower was probably the worst I have experienced in a 5 star hotel... Water would not drain properly and the shower pressure was not the best... In addition, the large bath took between 30 and 45 minutes to fill up... Overall, for the great price of the holiday, it was a very enjoyable stay and exactly what was needed...

    ...When we checked in, I asked to be in a room close to the beach as I was recovering from a broken ankle and they were able to accommodate me... When we were taken to our room I got a sense the service was going to be top notch... Whandy our bellboy told me to call him anytime to get a ride to the main lobby "We are at your service, I am here for you"... Throughout the week, the service from Evelyn, Yany (a hibiscus flower for my hair each morning) and Oscar at the beach restaurant was wonderful... The Ala Carte restaurant were very nice (the men could wear shorts with a colored shirt) with the Italian (the appetizer buffet 😍)and Steakhouse being our favorites... The maid service was also very good, with Anyelina checking in with us our first morning to make sure everything was good and if we needed anything... The room was spacious and clean, with a nice balcony to sit on... The bar service at the pool and beach was excellent, remembering what we drank each day (even when we changed it up)... We could even get a Caesar or 2 most days... The pool was your typical pool, but we are beach dwellers and there was always a good spot for us, no matter the time of day we could find a palapas... They keep the beach tidy a few times a day and the sand dunes allow for a good walk out into the water... Overall this was an excellent place to stay for many reasons, and I would recommend this, as well as consider going back there...

    ...Beautiful resort, great grounds, landscaping, beautiful beach with lots of palm trees. Very good service at front desk (Fanelis and Fredy),... Very good service at Thalassa restaurant( hostesses and waiters)... Great service at Piano Bar... We enjoyed walks around Bavaro (family resort) which were beautifully kept, little ponds and ducks and all the decor around... Loved the market area and the little cafe'- quiet and romantic 😊 We really had a good time and enjoyed our 1 week stay...

    In the room we received there was a water leak from the jacuzzi and the water in the toilet did not go down... When paying such a high amount per night, the minimum is to give the guests a room that is worthy of staying in... In addition, we asked for wine glasses to be brought to our room and they told us to bring them ourselves from the dining room... Other than that, the hotel is really beautiful, the pool is fun and the staff in the bars, restaurants, dining room and rooms are great!... We got some surprises in the room and it was really nice... The entertainment activities in the hotel are wonderful and varied, we liked it very much...

    My friend and I had high expectations for this resort. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a friendly receptionist and given a drink... We were taken to our room which we paid more to stay in the Privelidged rooms with our own pool/patio... Pros: Having our own pool to float in after being at the main pool all day was relaxing... We found something everywhere we went but I've definitely had better at all inclusives... This resort does allow smoking so beware if you have an aversion to that... When we asked the front desk they informed us that the entire resort would be without water until 5:00... They brought us liquor to the room but no mixers l. When I called concierge they saud they could not bring us ice or mixers to our room... The lime in the pic had been on the pool deck since we arrived on Saturday and when we left the following Saturday...

    ...It was our 11th visit so ,needless to say, we love this resort. The staff are outstanding and make you feel so welcome... Our spacious suite was extremely comfortable and close to the beach(building 36)... Beautifully landscaped grounds and a beach area with lots of natural shade... Privileged guests have an exclusive area... Alexis and Alberto at Sea Blue are excellent waiters, who always make sure that your wine is refilled... Jose and Margarita on the "eggs station" are just super...

Great staff. Food and drinks were excellent. Slightly outdated rooms, but that is the leas of my worries. Good price for the location and amentities. Would return to this facility. Glad to have expierenced this place.

We were very well treated everywhere at this very clean upscale resort. It was a wonderful relaxing 14 day stay. The room was great and the food and drinks too. The staff everywhere throughout the resort were pleasant and kind. We left well rested and tanned!

Very bad, I do not recoment a hotel. Bad service, dirty tables. We do not have cold watter in shower, refrigerator doesnt work, safe broken, very old equipment, no possible to use eletricity in the room. But very bad experience is, that somebody stole my dress while I was in pool for 7 minutes and nobody cares!!! I was told, it is public area. And every response was, I am not responsible…of course, if somebody speaks english, because 90% of staff doesnt speaks english!!! Very very very bad! Do not recomend the hotel because very poor service and not safe for you!

From beginning to end, our experience was absolutely amazing! We loved every minute of it. From front desk to waiter/waitresses, maids, excursions, the groundskeepers, everyone connected with this resort, was 100% outstanding. We can honestly say we do not have one negative thing to say about Catalonia Royal Bavaro. Everyone is so happy, always smiling and is very welcoming. Gladys (bar waitress) Luis (waiter) & Davey (busboy) are beautiful souls with magnetic personalities and amazing attitudes!! :) We are looking forward to and already planning our trip to Catalonia Royal Bavaro next year. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

This resort is excellent in every aspect ; immaculate grounds, large beautiful rooms, fantastic amenities and entertainment food was really good with lots of variety and a staff second to none in hospitality. A few stand outs at this resort- Gladys in the front bar area beside the pool, Luis who was in several restaurants and Davey in Tao Cat ! Superstars —- but I must add for the most part everyone (but one) was phenomenal and truly looked like the enjoyed their jobs

Wenslau and Daniel ran the best pool side activities and were fun and engaging! Definitely recommend participating! Everyday make sure you show up at 11am! Grab a drink and loosen up and have a great time!

We hosted a 42 person wedding here. Overall the wedding was a beautiful day and we were happy with the location and day of service. I would caution that the planning of the wedding was a headache and I would not suggest having your wedding here without a travel planner/agency handling the communication. We booked the biggest package they offer and yet we ended up paying 200% of the package at the end for all the added fees, not included items, and some extras we did book (flowers, violin player). We had to pay 1200 extra on top of the wedding package to assure our guests would have alcohol at the wedding, at an all-inclusive wedding, where all of the guests were staying on resort and had already paid for the all-inclusive alcohol package. This was not upgraded alcohol, it was the standard at every other resort bar (and they ran out of mamajuana within the first hour, after paying all that). The communication with the resort coordinator was terrible, even with downloading whatsapp which was their preferred communication. No attention to detail in the planning and would just completely blow off scheduled calls and disappear for weeks. With all the planning frustration aside, the wedding itself was beautiful. The beach gazebo on the family side was perfect for the ceremony and we held the reception at the beach bar on the adults side. Both locations were picturesque and the day itself had few hiccups. As for reviewing the resort, this was our 3rd time staying at Catalonia Royal Bavaro. We love the resort because the price is good and the staff are so warm and friendly. The food is not out of this world, but it is on par with most resorts that are double or triple the cost. We did have room problems this time around. No AC the first night, no hot water the first night, phone did not work, and there was a strong sewage smell coming from the shower room. We stayed in the presidential ocean front suite for the second half of our vacation and I strongly recommend you do not book this room. The suite is large and very cool with a nice view, but the whole master suite reeks of sewage. So much so, we could not use it. The sewage is coming from the master bathroom and there is no door between the bathroom and the bedroom, so we closed the door to that whole half of the suite and slept in the second queen sized room with no view. The balcony was still really cool, but for the cost, I would not book that room again.

The property is very clean and the employees are diligent in maintaining the grounds. Housekeeping staff (Johana) was very quick to keep our room tidy and fresh towels. The beach staff (Gernando) was always available for any need or direction. Food and drinks were always very good Very nice vacation and will definitely be coming back!
