Catalonia Royal Bavaro stands out for its well-maintained grounds and cleanliness, a highlight noted by many guests. However, opinions are mixed regarding the accommodations; while some visitors find the rooms to be adequate, others point out the need for modernization and raise concerns about maintenance and cleanliness.
Although the resort offers a variety of dining options and pools that are well-received, the value proposition is questioned, with travelers often finding the experience overpriced and lacking in amenities. Service quality varies, with reports of both commendable and disappointing interactions, and the overall atmosphere is deemed peaceful yet in need of an infusion of energy and contemporary charm.

Don’t believe the negative reviews.( maybe they are owners of timeshares at a competing resort?) because the reality of this place is it is delightful. Our check in was fast and efficient, the people were all lovely. Thank you Anna :) My wife and I took our 3 young adult daughters and we ate well, drank well and danced on the beach every night. The rooms did need some updating, but you are on a very cheap vacation in a 3rd world country. $2,000 for 7 days to eat and drink all I want is an amazing deal. I go to NYC and pay $500 a night for a little room that smells like sewage and $200 a day on subpar food…..
The complaints about the people that work here are also false imo. Shout out to Alfredo who is a joy and delight. I see no one tipping here. People that work here may struggle to put food on their families table and ppl complain about throwing a couple dollars down - it is just wild to me. We brought $700 for tipping money for the week in addition to what we paid for our stay. We tip housekeepers, we tip staff, we tip drivers. When you share your wealth it comes back threefold. We were treated like queens for tipping each day what we would spend on a meal for two at a Fridays or Chilies.
On top of all of this I have not seen a single review mention This resorts good works for the environment.
Sustainability - they clean their own water and use glass bottles instead of plastic
As a result the water is not always hot. The rooms use the reverse osmosis and they are still working things out - they launched this in 2023. People complain but I commend them for the work they are doing to help their country .
IMPORTANT***The hack to hot showers - turn all of the faucets in the room on hot. It may take 5 minutes but it will warm up, then take your shower. I appreciate people thinking this is bs based on what they have paid but again they are working through a very new and important water conservation project.
They also have multiple areas on the beach where you can throw trash found on the beach - very focused on conservation
Advice to management- invest in one of those machines that helps to clear seaweed - seeing your workers have to do that by hand was tough, knowing there is a more efficient way. Unless you are simply just trying to create more jobs - which would be understandable.
Final thought for the haters - Going through life complaining about everything is a miserable way to exist. I promise you, if you look for the good in every situation in your life, you will find it.

Have just returned from 10 days at the Royal Catalonia Punta Cana.
Room was clean, air conditioning worked, but certainly was not as advertised. We paid for the Premium Junior Suite (see picture below as how it was described by Catalonia) and nothing about the room was premium. The room is described as being "fully remodeled". It definitely was not. Our hand held shower was hanging off the wall on our arrival, however this was fixed immediately upon request. Although I don't understand why I need to request this, when housekeeping sees this they should have it repaired. At the very least, in between guests. The shower was about 2.5' by 3' (as shown in attached picture), definitely not premium. The makeup mirror also had a gaping hole around it. There was no bathrobe/slippers, pillow menu or hammock on the terrace as advertised. Don't really care, but when they say it's there and you pay for it, I think it should be there. Furthermore, our room was in building 32, which doesn't actually exist on the resort map. It was formerly villa 18 which belonged to the family side of the resort. This also didn't really work for us as we had requested a room in a quiet area of the resort, which this was definitely not. The family side had about 3 night parties, held on the beach and in the beach buffet, which were just outside our room, and were so loud the furniture was vibrating.
Having said that, the service on the Royal side was phenomenal, except when the Catalonia executives were there (more on that later). The food was excellent every where we ate, and we ate at all the options. Drink service at the pools and the beach was exceptional. We didn't have to get off our butts to get a drink if we didn't want to. Servers were constantly circulating, and we were just in the regular section. Cleudy at the beach bar was so friendly, and Felix (who was everywhere it seemed) made the best espresso martini.
About Tao Cat, which seems to get a lot of negative feedback was great. We went twice and just ordered appetizers and sushi, all were fantastic. Breakfast at BLoved is fabulous with an a la carte menu which has something for everyone.
As for the Catalonia executives who were visiting during our stay. Sadly they commandeered the attention of the staff at BLoved for breakfast to the detriment of the guests. Clearly, the staff had been instructed to give them the best service. If the executives had been paying attention, they would have been aware of this. On that particular day, we waited at least 30 min for muesli and avocado toast for breakfast, whereas the executives received their smoked salmon eggs Benedict (which was not on the menu for anyone else) within minutes. In my opinion, they would have been better off in a board room with their own servers, because paying guests should not be placed below them in service.
In summary, it's a lovely hotel, just don't pay too much for your trip and don't go with high expectations as to room amenities as you will be disappointed.

March 2024 spent 2 glorious weeks in building 36 Catalonia Royal Bavaro. The room on the second floor was great, a good size, very clean, and well stocked with water, pop, beer, and toiletries, however could benefit with a little updating ie painting, furniture, and electrical outlets. The massive jacuzzi tub in the room was not an asset for me, more of a wasted space.
Lots of dining options especially having access to the family side of the resort. Food for the most part was very good. My only complaint re dining would be with the outside dining areas being over run with cats. Yes cats everywhere brushing up against legs, and begging at the table. This was a total no no for me making, me very uncomfortable.i would not make another reservation at those restaurants again. There is no evening buffet on the adults only side, but just a short walk to the family side. Making dinner reservations was very easy I suggest you do this soon after checking in.
Only used the infinity pool. Good size, and fairly clean. It has a few draw backs being absolutely no entertainment. I don’t need wild foam parties, or water sports, but a bit of music certainly wouldn’t hurt. The stones on the pool deck are basically all loose, and pose a very bad tripping hazard. My final complaint re this area would be the lack of sun umbrellas. The bar service is excellent in this area, as is the sea blue restaurant, and the beach bbq was delicious.
The privilege section of the beach was a big letdown very crowded with large white vinyl beds with next to no shade. Lots of palm tree shade outside of that designated area.
The golfing was very good, and quite easy getting tee time. There is a nine hole course right on site, and an 18 hole just a short drive away transportation, and green fees included $45.00 US per person for mandatory cart is required. $25.00 US to rent half decent clubs. Reservations can be made same place as dinner reservations in the resort lobby.
In summary very nice resort first visit to Adults only side. family side 4 time previously. Would definitely return, and recommend to family, and friends. With a few changes this could be 5 Star. Keep in mind Royal side is much quieter, but you have the option of what the family side has to offer, best of both worlds.

We arrived on January 5th, 2025. Unfortunately, the experience started off on the wrong foot. At check-in, the front desk associate barely acknowledged us, spending most of the time on the phone speaking in another language, which made us feel anything but welcome. We had paid for an upgraded room, only to find it was the same as a standard one. When I inquired about paying for an additional upgrade, I was rudely told the resort was overbooked and to check back in a few days. Privilege rooms are in designated buildings closer to the beach, but a distance from the most of the main amenities. When I questioned what privilege status got me, I was told that I would receive a discount at the spa, a bottle of rum in my room, and access to upgraded alcohol, (which was never offered to me). Do not pay the extra money to upgrade. It is totally not worth it.
The food was average, but the house wine was surprisingly quite decent. However, there was no dedicated coffee shop, which was inconvenient—we had to go into the buffet just to get a coffee to go. One of the most frustrating parts of our stay was trying to get orange juice for my medication. Despite multiple requests to the front desk, I was completely ignored. Thankfully, Concierge Natacha was incredibly helpful and ensured I got what I needed.
On a positive side, the resort itself was immaculately clean, I felt the housekeeping staff did an excellent job. We had great times at the pool, many thanks to Ashly at the Margarita Bar for doing such a great job. The evening entertainment was low key, but we quite enjoyed it. All of the servers at the Piano Bar were friendly and efficient.
The beach had a designated area for privilege guests, but there were always plenty of chairs available. Seaweed is an issue, which is typical for a Punta Cana beach, but one day in the middle of the afternoon, they cleaned it up using large equipment. We moved to a safer spot, as they were running a tractor, trailer and pay loader around people walking, and lying in beach chairs. Insane!
We will not return to this resort. We were extremely disappointed in our value for the money, and the lack of concern given to us about our polite concerns.
Having said this, there were many who were return guests, and if you want a clean, mid standard resort, and have few expectations, then this place will serve you well.

We left with Lookea for 15 days as a “privilege”. We had already stayed in the hotel just before Covid. The Lookea team is friendly and the excursions are well chosen and well executed. A favorite for Lorenzo and his catamaran. On the hotel side it's something else... the exteriors are very beautiful and well maintained... on the other hand the staff just don't care about customers anymore, they melt a head 10 feet long except when you take out a big bill, in 15 days the cleaning of the room (bathroom and floor) were never cleaned, there were 3 of us in the room and each day we had to ask for 2 shower towels the brave women persisted in only putting 'one for 3 and without bath mat. We reported the clogged basins 5 times but obviously no one was interested. The shower also remained clogged for 3 days before I expressed my dissatisfaction more loudly and then a guy came. For the record, the guy whistled at me to signal the end of the work. I admit that this is the first time that I have been whistled at in a 5 star by the technical service... the sheets are only changed once in 15 days, the showers were never done and we spent two weeks with the same crushed mosquitoes (already present on arrival), no brush for the toilets. On the catering side: The buffets are of random quality for a 5 star, the Japanese deserve consistency, the Steak House is qualitatively correct but they brought back the dishes after 45 minutes of waiting and after the main course the starters. 😂😂 The drinks must still be being made when I write these lines... For those who have to stay connected for their work, the wifi on the page is very very random, plan for 4G otherwise it just doesn't work for one video or email with attachment. By the way, for a digital detox it's the right place... in short, it's not worth the price and despite lookea's sincere and constant efforts to put bandages on wooden legs, the quality is far below what we have the right to expect for the price and the classification of the hotel (especially when paying a privilege upgrade). For having made the competitors (Like R.. or Ibéro or Meilia) on the same destination, Catalonia is far above. Given the offer available at the destination, I strongly advise against this establishment.

Just returned from a week of sunshine and relaxation at the Catalonia Royal Bavaro. Having travelled to many all-inclusive resorts, I have to say that our week at the Catalonia was the best I’ve experienced. From attentive staff to luxurious rooms and amenities, Catalonia Royal Bavaro excels in every aspect.
Rooms: We stayed in building 38 and our room very spacious and beautiful. Our room was always cleaned very well and quickly by Yuberkis who took the time to decorate areas of our room with flowers and our mini fridge was restocked daily.
Restaurants: Morning and lunch buffet offered a wide variety of choices with delicious options. A few a la carte dinners were quite notable for food and exceptional service – The Rodeo (Alberto and Edward), Thalassa and Spanish (Saul) restaurants were our favourites. The romantic beach dinner was worth it and the food and personalized service were 5 stars without a doubt. The Sea Blue restaurant (next to the infinity pool) has an excellent bar service and also offers a great lunch (our favourites – tacos, chicken wings, Greek salad, etc) The only negative experience was the Tao Cat – food was inedible and the server (Sandra) was rude and pushy.
Beach and Pools: Royal Catalonia Bavaro offers 2 pools which are fairly large. Our favourite was the infinity pool near the beach. Pool loungers are reserved early as patrons leave their beach towels by 7 a.m. so it’s best to go out early. The beach area has plenty of beach chairs and beds so that was never an issue. Some days had more seaweed than others but there was still some fun to be had swimming in the ocean and workers were out early in the morning to clean up the beach as much as possible.
Extra: Now, the concierge team is exceptional – Juan, Gabriel, Bernie and a few others (sadly did not take their names down) are amazing! They are always ready to help and strive to make your time at the Catalonia Royal Bavaro a memorable experience. Juan would come by and see us every morning either at the beach or pool to ask us how we were doing and if we had any special requests or needs.
Lobby and Grounds: The lobby is infused with aromatherapy which is so wonderful. The grounds are beautifully manicured and have special areas – reading corner, romantic photo opt, beautiful fountains etc. Catalonia Royal Bavaro is the place to be!

We benefited from a privilege suite with private swimming pool within this establishment, it was quite decent overall. The cleanliness ; nothing to complain about, excellent. The furnishings are somewhat dated but ok. Some finishes which could have been of better quality and better done would have been essential given the price paid per night. Air conditioning and fountains outside which make hellish noise. The hot water in the shower was missing a few times. Too bad everyone sees what's going on in this suite and on the terrace just by walking past. We would have preferred a little more privacy.
Catering: lunch buffets are often the same and quite simple. The a la carte menus in the evening are really limited and not very good. Those evenings we ate very poorly. However, there were evenings where buffets were presented such as Saturday night “Dominican Food” and we had a great time.
It’s a shame that there isn’t more local food offered or a variety of food so that we can taste new flavors. But given that it is an “all inclusive”, no wonder they focus on quantity instead of quality.
As for drinks, very limited choice of sodas. We found they were running out of gas. As for alcoholic drinks throughout the day in the different bars ok, overall we found what we were looking for.
There are really very few indications at the hotel, particularly for the location of restaurants, swimming pools, activity days, days when BBQs, pancakes, paellas are offered on the beach, etc. So one piece of advice to give is to tour the owner in DETAIL upon arrival so as not to discover things on the day of departure.
Beach: often disturbed by people selling souvenirs or services (massages, hairstyles, activities.) a little annoying when you simply want to rest and enjoy the moment. Quite a lot of Sargassum despite the beach clean-ups.
The hotel complex is generally well maintained, nicely done and the people working there are attentive. Unfortunately, very few staff spoke French and those who did not spoke it had difficulty stammering in English. Really unfortunate for a place like this. And even more of a shame for the men in charge of the entrance (arrivals and exits).
In conclusion, we had a great time but if we decide to come back we will look a little more at other hotels because we are convinced that it is possible to do much better.

This is far from a 4 star resort, I’ve never been more disappointed. The A/C didnt work, never went below 24.5 C, reported but no one ever came to check. There were literally only two outlets in the whole room- the bathroom and the one the TV and fridge were plugged into, we had the TV unplugged all week just so we could charge our electronics. Rooms are very outdated. The toilet room didn’t have a door and looked straight across to the shower. I love my husband but I don’t need to see him sitting on the toilet as I shower or brush my teeth.
Service was great if you spoke Spanish but forget it if you’re English, often times they couldn’t understand basic requests. The food was awful, buffets were the worst and the restaurants only slightly better. Many seemed quite miserable to be there tbh
Paid for premium room but there are literally no privileges that we experienced - the select part of the beach for that privilege was crowded and had no shaded areas.
Would never recommend this place to anyone and in fact saved a coworker from going as he had just booked the night before I was telling him- he cancelled.

We (couple from Luxembourg 47/50) do not want to advise anyone this hotel, BUT! if you are also looking for relaxation and good food, please continue browsing the catalog. Unfortunately we did not have a good experience here and the bottom line was the holiday for the cat.
Already on arrival we were in line for 40 minutes at the check-in. Then immediately switched rooms because 20 meters in front of the terrace was a construction site.
1st room: big, a bit old, in detail “well” and cleanliness definitely goes even better. Of note is only the very good bed, BUT! unfortunately the sleep every morning from 07:00 was disturbed by the noise of the cleaning column which started cleaning and discussing in the hallway.
2. The complex: very nice with many palm trees, 2 pools and bars, BUT! on the third day half of the complex was closed for renovation. 1 pool, a bar and 3 restaurants too! The 3 remaining restaurants were repurposed and one changed daily between Thai and Peru
3. The food: difficult to find the right words. Disappointing and by no means worthy of 5 stars, it probably meets best. In the grill restaurant, when the right food arrived at the table, it was always cold! served listlessly, without much flavor and fried dead. The Thai and Peruvian restaurant were below average, a Caribbean interpretation of foreign cuisine. Only the main restaurant was reasonably fine, even if the menu sometimes did not quite work out.
4.The beach: as a “Privileged” or “Exclusive” guest you have very cozy loungers and beds available in each sparsely closed area, BUT! every two minutes you are bothered by some vendors who want to sell them souvenirs, cigars or excursions. Beware also of the sellers with lizard and parrot. As soon as the animal sits on them, it's time to get down to business! The white sand and the blue sea from the postcard do not exist here either. There has been a brown algae plague here for some time. Be sure to inform before booking which section of the coast it is located in. For the first 4 days the algae hills piled up on the beach, only then the worst was removed daily, nevertheless the sea remained a brown soup and only after several meters could you feel sand under your feet. Luckily we had our swimming shoes with us.
In conclusion, it can be said that you will obviously and definitely be treated “differently” in Spanish. It is also advantageous to always carry and distribute a handful of 1 dollar notes. The statute “privileged” does not bring any significant advantages except for the beach area. 10% on wellness treatment and in the shop, late check out if possible and the very simple wine at dinner.

The hotel is quite worn out. Privileged offers no benefits. Even if you are a Priviledged customer, you can get a dirty and unrenovated room. We arrived at the hotel on September 16, we were given a Priviledged room right in the middle of construction, probably at that time all the other rooms in the building were under renovation. Immediately on the same day, we reported to the reception that the room was dirty and smelly, and there was no hot water. We were told that the room could only be replaced after the manager's decision, which was the next day. The next day the room was replaced, but also with an unrenovated one. Our two adult children stayed in the part being renovated in the Priviledged room. Two days later, they started breaking up sidewalks and digging ditches around the part being renovated. We immediately asked the reception to change the children's room. The reception pretended not to know that the building was undergoing renovation works. The children were moved to another building, and as Priviledged clients, they were also given an unrenovated room. A few days later, the toilet flush broke down in the children's room, a specialist was sent in and he was unable to repair the toilet for about 2 hours, and in the process he dismantled half of the wall. At the reception, the children received a key to an adjacent, unoccupied room so they could use the toilet. On September 26, in the morning, the cleaners took over the room (number 3653) under the guise of cleaning. This went on for quite a long time, so I went to check what was happening there. I opened the room with my card and it turned out that the cleaners were having a party in the room, drinking beer and smoking. I asked them to leave the room and informed the reception about the incident, and the management contacted me regarding this matter. The specialist was still unable to repair the toilet, so the children were given another room. The hotel reception works very poorly, although the employees try to help as much as they can. The weakest receptionist is John, I don't know, maybe he works too short, but he doesn't even try to help customers. What works well, sometimes even very well, is the restaurants and the service in the restaurants, compared to the reception, the waiters are really great. WIFI in the hotel was "repaired" during our stay and almost does not work at all. The service on the beach must be praised, the waiters serving drinks are really very good. The callboys helping with luggage are also very good. When staying in this hotel, you should be prepared for the fact that there will be a lot of discussions with the reception, that as a Privileged customer you have no benefits, and you may also meet cleaning ladies having a party in some room.
