Bahia Principe Grand Punta Cana is celebrated for its vibrant atmosphere and well-preserved common areas, providing a welcoming setting for travelers. However, guests have called out the hotel for its outdated rooms, which suffer from cleanliness issues, including pest problems and unpleasant odors.
Despite the well-maintained grounds and pools, reviewers warn about inconsistent service quality and hidden costs that detract from the hotel's value. While the location garners mixed reviews, the service often disappoints, with slow response times and disorganization mentioned by many.

Detailed Reviews
Definitely not a 4.5/5 star as advertised by Marlin Travel
Beach and pool areas were the only nice part of our trip....
Our room flooded twice during our stay, we were unable to contact front desk for assistance due to the fact that our phone would only allow incoming calls. We could not make any outgoing calls. We were able to get the maid in our area to clean up the mess only after much animated gestures as it was difficult to find anyone who could speak/understand English. When she did clean the room she used the soiled towels from the building we were in to "sop" up the water. Thankfully she mopped afterwards!
Safe worked only part time. When we went to front lobby to request assistance we were told to call from our room? We tried to explain that the phone wouldn't work but were pretty much ignored by staff. Staff were a "hit and miss" as most really couldn't be bothered to offer any assistance!

My visit to the Grand Bahia Principe Bavaro was incredible. So much better than any review I have seen or even what our travel agent described it as. The resort is absolutely breathe taking. It is so well maintained. The side walks are always well swept and they are washed everyday. Our
room was lovely and located near the middle pools on the resort grounds. The rooms are large, they have great air conditioning, and fans. There are amazing balconies off the rooms as well. We stayed in the first floor and have no roach problems like some of these reviews saw. We didn’t even see any. Also if we did we wouldn’t even have minded since ya know they’re a common bug in the country. Definitely bring bug spray for mosquitos though, they aren’t aggressive but they will do what they are born to do.
The beach was outstanding. You can walk for miles down the stretch to see the other resorts, you are not only stuck on the resort beach. There is plenty of shade for when you’ve had enough sun and there is a lot of space so you aren’t on top of other people.
The food was outstanding! Being a cook at a Michelin restaurant in New York I’m normally pickier with food. But this food was incredible! I did not hate anything I ate. We dined at 3 of the restaurants, the Japanese, fish market, and Brazilian, and ate at the buffet the other 3 night and we were so happy. The only people who we noticed to be complaining about the food are those “snooty” people who eat at either apple bees every Friday and order the same damn thing, or those people who go out and buy a $400 steak and think they’re amazing for doing so. The fruit is obviously delicious and they have food that will appeal to all, stretching from pasta and pizza to hot dogs and hamburgers, to the delicious seafood and native foods of the DR. You will not be disappointed or hungry! You’re fed all hours of the day.
The people who work at the resort are beyond lovely. We do not speak much Spanish but we could communicate well with everyone just speaking English. They go out of their way to communicate with you. They are they for you not just for themselves. The bartenders are lovely, the waiters are lovely and so is the management you see around.
I would highly recommend this resort to anyone. It’s affordable and incredible and made our First time to punta Cana a memorable one. There are always activities and shows at night, you are never bored. If you want to be left alone and be in silence, you can avoid the activities easily and you don’t hear the noise.
My family will absolutely be returning back.

This is a very large resort but you would never know it because there was no line ups and plenty of chairs available at either the beach or one of the many pools.
Our room was always cleaned and restocked. We were closer to the lobby but that was never a problem as we loved the walk everyday to the beach and if need be there is a small tran to take you back and forth. We were told from our Holiday Company to tip daily as sometimes there are different maids on different days. We did this and always had great service. They recommend $1 day.
The pools always had lots of room, was very clean and so refreshing. Every pool had a bit of a different feel to it. The ones closer to the beach seemed more of a "fun" pool with entertainment. Usually one of the pools further back was quite quiet and perfect for reading or just relaxing. The pool bars were never full and the waiters always happy to serve.
The beach is beautiful and there were always chairs available.
The a la carte resturants were great. We ate at the Italian, Grill, Fish market, Japanese and Brazillian.
The buffets were well maintained with plenty of food. I would say some of the staff need a little extra training and could be bit better with there personality skills.
This is a 4 star resort and if that is what your expecting then this resort will be pleasing to your expectations.

Nice beaches, clean property, lot of nice staff, enough food the whole day. You get around by trains they bring you from lobby to beach whole day. Everywhere there are disinfection gel bottles. Rooms getting older but ok and clean. Satellite TV, WIFI works
Some issues to be fixed
1) staff lots of time busy with each other. 2) Food 90% almost cold. We waited for new servings to get it hot.
3) Restaurants to book for Europe poor except for teppanyaki restaurant. Difference in chef makes it. We do not like a loud environment so the screaming chef is passe. Food was good and warm)))). Al-a-cart skip because food was poor. Sushi you hardly can call sushi.
3) People occupying the beds from 07.00 in the morning with towels at the beach or pool. Later you only see chairs with towels and no people till later that day. I would put staff in place to control this from early in the morning and remove towels.... you do this once and problem is solved forever.
4) Loud music in pool and even sometimes at beaches is really disturbing. We are there to hear the sea and enjoy our rest. Beside that the kind of music is so individual that it is kind of not okay to make everybody listen to it. So we went far away from the noise.
5) Check in late was slow and we got not really informed how the system works. We had to find out ourselves. Would be nice to get short but useful directions and information. Even at the room you will find no info about the property.
Average we where happy with our stay.

The resort is kept clean & staff try very hard to help guests even though most don't speak English. Check in/out was fast & easy. There was always gardeners tending to the grass, trees or other plants. The resort is beautiful!
Security staff were on a quad driving up & down the beach. We never felt unsafe.
We enjoyed the Maiko restaurant the most but all food options were tasty. Buffets were clean & lots of local food with American choices if you want a taste of home. Lobby bar had great coffee choices & Joan was always quick to help get the coffee!
We love our morning coffee but this was a bit of a hassel. We had a room closer to the beach & no coffee makers in the room. No coffee service close to the beach so if you want coffee by the beach get a travel mug & go to the lobby bar & fill up. There are trollies/trains that take guests from the far side of the resort to the lobby which helps to not have cold coffee.
Every day there are lots of activities for kids & adults by the pool areas. In the evening there was different shows each night like magic, circus, dancing.
The room we had was very nice. We're not sure about the housekeeping schedule, they cleaned the room after our first night there & nothing after that. The room mini bar has water, pop & beer. We called guest service to restock but no one came so we called again. It did get restocked but no set schedule to restock after that. We appreciated the bottled water in the fridge.
Covid precautions on the resort: all staff wear masks, guests wear masks but take them off during meals. Plastic dividers between guests & staff are at check in/out desk, guest service, bar, gift shops & some restaurants. Hand sanitizer is available all over the resort. Plastic gloves are given to guests at the buffet & masks if you have forgotten one. For covid testing for flights home, a huge room is set up for guests to register & get tested.
Overall is a beautiful resort!
The day we checked out, we were at the airport & my husband realized he forgot his wedding rings in our room safe. Ever since that day I have called & emailed the resort but am not having any luck getting in contact with someone to get the rings sent to us.

I typically stay at smaller resorts and didnt realize this was part of such a huge property all connected. This makes it much more challenging for service and for loungers.
We arrived in April / 2022. Check in was swift and easy. Toronto connector lost out luggage but the Airport Staff in Punta Cana located it and delivered it to the resort quickly which was much appreciated. Great job there,.
When operating at part capacity, there seemed to be plenty of loungers at the beach and pools for everyone and service was not an issue, but mid-trip as numbers increased dramatically, there were no loungers available anywhere and service was lacking in the buffet and beach bar. For food such as omelets and pasta, the lineup was always 6-8 people long. At the beach bar there was only one guy working the actual bar with about 10+ in the line up at all times and one other guy that walked around. This was very disappointing. I dont mind waiting a little bit but oftentimes it was more than 10 people and the wait was too long.
The theatre wasnt great and we left early each night but did visit another resort and their entertainment by poolside was better. The entertainment at centre square was much better.
The rooms are dated and you can tell it needs work. This didnt affect our stay, we were still fine and enjoyed everything.
Staff are friendly and it was a great week. The only thing that bothered me the most were the bug bites. We were full of them on our faces and legs and arms and even had them from being in our rooms in the evenings and bug spray doesnt help. I have been home over a week now and they are still itchy and swollen. It would be very beneficial to spray the grounds in the evenings like other resorts do.

Dear Client, We are pleased that you found our Bahia Principe Grand Bavaro pleasant and that you mention our friendly staff. We regret that we did not fully meet your expectations. Regarding the insects, please allow us to inform you that due to the tropical climate and the lush vegetation that surrounds our facilities and, taking into account that we are located in a protected mangrove area, the presence of certain species coming from outside cannot be avoided at all times; however, we do not have insect infestations in the resort. Nevertheless, since the well-being of our guests is our priority, we are very strict with sanitary measures. We also feel it is important to point out that we enforce insect and rodent control programs, through a strict fumigation program, which are carried out continuously. However, we deeply regret the unfortunate incident you experienced in this matter. Always available, Online Reputation Bahia Principe Bavaro Resort

Lovely destination amazing resort very friendly staff on the entertainment team, waiters very friendly but the staff showing to your tables quite miserable. Food very good standard in the buffet area. The ala carte restaurants not so good food cold and the soup in the Japanese restaurant made me vomit as soon as I left as so fatty and greasy. Would certainly recommend this hotel, pools lovely nice swim up bars friendly staff serving.
I did find that the reception staff were very slow, had to keep going back for them to help with queries. The area to get a coffee in the middle of the main foyer never had cups and saucers so spent a lot of time waiting for staff to get some for you. Cost of massages were very expensive much more than in the UK so didnt have one which was a shame as I like a massage. Alcohol a little watered down. Evening entertainment very good, lots of salsa dancing to a live singer, then more entertainment in the village then the disco not well advertised though.

Immediately upon arrival at the Bahia principe we knew we were in for a treat, the check in was painless hand 5 minutes later we were taken to our room 22111, the room had two double beds a nice shower over a jacquizz Bath.
After two days we decided to upgrade the the Ambar hotel which is for adults only, this hotel is in a different league , and we opted for one with a swim up pool room 63108 . This really is 5 star.
The complex is huge and I mean huge we got lost a few times on the first few days, as there are 7 hotels on site which cater for every budget and family type.
Every hotel has its own pool some only for the residents of the hotel you are in but with 7 to chose from you won’t be spoilt for choice. There are also exclusive areas of the beech again hotel specific.
Each hotel has its own dining room and the choice of food is exceptional and the quality is on point.
All the staff were pleasant, helpful and accommodating my wife and I normally only like to go away for a maximum of ten days but we could easily have stayed even longer. We will definitely go back and stay here again

I had a lot of options when I was booking this quick getaway at the begging for 2020… I visited Grand Bahia Principe resort in January 2011 and I had warm and fuzzy feelings about it. Price was awesome and this was what finally got me. Arriving was smooth and I got to the room very fast. Surprise surprise air conditioner was blowing pretty much hot air, so I complained and was moved to another room. I unpacked and quickly went to eat lunch, for a swim and didn’t spent much time in the room. Later, I came back and quickly went to sleep to wake up later in a hot sweat…. Accustomed to sleep with cooler temps, I just couldn’t go on and went to the front desk to complain again. Front Desk person was unhelpful promising that I will get moved to a room with a working air conditioner next day, so I insisted on talking to the manager. That gentleman listened carefully and went with me to my room to check it out and agreed that it was unacceptable…. We checked out a few more rooms and found something a bit more alive air conditioner… So the bottom line is that hotel had seen it’s better days, but the stuff tries it’s best to keep the guests comfortable! Food was awesome! Beach very comfortable. Vacation was mostly a success!

I have nothing but positive things to say about our stay at Bahia Principe Grand Bávaro. Firstly, the rooms are immaculate. The mini bar is restocked each day, the beds are made, and the bathroom is cleaned and restocked with essentials. Secondly, the buffet has many choices of cuisine with charming wait staff. The food is always fresh, delicious, and prepared with great presentation. But the most delightful part of our stay was the service, especially with the help of Marisol and Louicilien in reception of Bahia Principe Grand Bávaro. They were very respectful, and quick to assist us with our needs, including with extending our stay for an additional evening. We are more than happy and we'll definitely stay here again in the future :)

There are themed nights: while we were there they had Japanese night, Mexican, American, etc.
They will change decor and different stations to offer food from those regions. But it was not super noticeable that it was as a themed night and in my opinion the food was not good
I emailed the hotel asking about this. You can pre check in and they will then send you the website to book dinner reservations. You get 3 per stay
Sorry I don't know 😕
