Stayed here as a family of 4, myself, hubby and 2 adult sons. Booked holiday 3 years ago but due to covid it was amended to this year. Check in was fine just a little slow (weren’t offered refreshments or flannel, as some guests had) and was disappointed as we had not been allocated room in any of the buildings we requested. Unfortunately our room block 70 overlooked the neighbouring hotel and the service road down to beach and restaurants so was very noisy at times. Despite this though we were shown to our rooms which were big, clean and nicely decorated. Very good amenities such as shampoo, shower gel, body lotion etc. bed was massive and very comfortable. towels nice and fresh and changed daily if required. Room was cleaned daily and turn down service at night. Mini bar well stocked up to begin with but seemed very hit and miss with what you would get each day. You would think if you drank whiskey that you would get topped up with that but no there didn’t seem thought about what they gave you. (Even the tipping didn’t work). The coffee making facilities were great but no where to make a cup of tea and no milk provided. The hotel grounds are lovely and are kept beautiful by a hard working team. This is a massive resort and we walked around it several times and it is always well tended to. Pool area is lovely with lots of sun beds but it has a serious lack of parasols. You then have the issue with people claiming the lounges very early in the morning and not coming down till much later. Management didn’t seem to do anything about it. The pool area was also very noisy and loud. The music is constantly played really loud all day. Pool bar in centre of pool gets busy with crowds gathering around it making it hard to get to get a drink. Saw people smoking and eating in pool on a couple of occasions. There were also a few large groups of plus 10 people and they were always shouting, one group even brought their own music and was playing above the normal pool music. I like a party but it was constant and for this reason we found the beach the best place to go. We always found a lounger and it was peaceful, we just walked up to pool when we needed a dip. Beach is beautiful with stunning views and a lovely breeze. Couldn’t go in sea due to the amount of seaweed, it was just horrible. The hotel team did their best to clear it everyday but it was just too much. Service on the beach was great and cocktails were good and there is also a small beach bar and toilets. The Buffett was large and plenty of choice and we used it a few times for dinner and breakfast. We also had breakfast at Brisas which was smaller buffet but with fantastic see views, we also had our lunch here too. Disappointed in the fact they had changed breakfast at Brisas as it was supposed to be a table service and you had to book but unfortunately it had changed to buffet. Although the food was fine we preferred going to the el la carte restaurants. We booked in advance and we got all our choices. Not all the restaurants were open which was a shame. To much to review all of them on here but best ones were Limbo, Portofino, and Thali on the Ambar site. Did not like MEAT as service was terrible, staff unpleasant, and food and drink of poor quality. Sports bar was good for cocktails and chicken wings. We also visited other restaurants in the adjoining complexes. Entertainment was ok with some nights better than others which mainly takes place in the lobby but they are trying to cater for everyone’s tastes and try their best to please all. The only thing I would say is there was nowhere to go and sit and have a drink in a relaxing space, it would of been lovely to have been able to sit in a quiet bar by the sea. All the bars played load music. The nicest place for good quality drinks was Limbo. The drinks and cocktails were amazing and the fabulous team that work there. Facilities were keep spotlessly clean and the buildings are stunning. The staff were amazing, service was great in most places and the staff work really hard trying to make you happy. We had a really good holiday and a great time but I wouldn’t say this was a 5 star luxury hotel. I think it may have lost it luxury and at times felt like I was a 18-30 holiday. I would rate this hotel has a strong 4 star but would loose the luxury.

Arrival Day 1 out of 10 Just arrived. A few hiccups with the room. New room. Happy with that. Presidente beer is cold. All is well on day 1. Kudos to Nirobe at Ambar lobby for getting us a good corner suite. Tonight we go to Portofino!!! Looking forward to that!!!!Day 2 update. Out of 10 Great day. Started out at the pool. Water was cool in the am, like a hot tub by 3pm!!! Went down to the beach around 10am to get in the water before the seaweed was too bad. Nice breeze on the beach. Allison served us at the beach. Seaweed was bad by noon. Couldn't get in the water. They kept going up the beach with the tractor. Ate at LA Brisas for breakfast. Breakfast menu under LUNCH MENU, who knew???? Lol. Ate lunch on the beach. Had the seafood paella and some chicken. Very good. Back to the pool by 1pm till 5pm. Had some entertainment from Coco Bongos for 45 minutes. Great show. I was in the corn hole competition, didn't win!!! Lol. But had fun. By 3pm, the pool felt like a hot tub. So you were actually cool when you got out!!! Off to Meat tonight for dinner. I'm sure it will be good!!! The mojotos were good today. The Presidente is always good and cold. Our last trip to Punta Cana was in January and we went to Majestic Mirage. No entertainment in January at the resorts, so the entertainment is on here in Punta Cana now!!!! They had the QUEEN SHOW last night in the lobby, but we were too tired to make it. They have it again on Thursday, so we plan on going then. I am on our balcony now relaxing before dinner. I'll take a photo. We have a peek a boo view of the ocean!!! Lol. Much better room then our original room!!! More pics to come!!! Day 2 update. They have it again on Thursday, so we plan on going then. I am on our balcony now relaxing before dinner. I'll take a photo. We have a peek a boo view of the ocean!!! Lol. Much better room then our original room!!! More pics to come!!! Day 3 Update out of 10!!! Another nice day. We went to Meat last night. It was good. We both got the Ribeye. I had called the butler Starlin regarding the WI Fi here. My firestick finds the internet but won't work. I asked if I had to pay the $20 for premium WI Fi, which I will be happy to do. He said let me call the technician!!! That was the end of that. Never heard anything else on it. I'll ask the front desk tonight since my husband's bracelet didn't work for the door, so they fixed it last night, now mine won't work!!!! Frustrating at best. So off to the lobby we go. I had reservations for LIMBO tonight but after hubby saw the menu, there wasn't anything on it he would eat. We canceled that for tonight!!! No biggie, off to the buffet. Now we were out by the pool about 8:40am and I wanted to sit in another spot instead of right in front of the beach store. NO breeze there at all. So we moved over about 50 feet and wow what a difference that made. We had a great breeze all day. Marlene was our waitress again and was fabulous. Tips go a long way and she deserves all we give her. We love tipping the employees because they work soooo hard and so many dont tip. We always have and always will tip for the great service they provide. Now I'm a beach girl. We live in Florida near Fort Myers Beach. Just love the beach. BUT the beach unfortunately is terrible this time of year with the seaweed here in Punta Cana. I've never seen so much seaweed in my life. I just won't get in the water with that much Seaweed!!! We vacation in Cancun, Punta Cana, BVI and the USVI quite often and I haven't ever come here in August. Not sure if it's always like this in August but I'll plan accordingly next time. We went to the beach restaurant for breakfast. I got Eggs Benedict and it was very good. Hubby got Heurva Rancerho, if it's spelled like that. But he really liked them too. Went back for lunch and they had a buffet in which they serve you there which was also OK. I'll post today's pics and last night's in Meat. So far, so good, even with the few hiccups we encountered. We're on vacation so I'm not going to let every little thing bother us!!! Just give me a Cosmo and hubby a Presidente!!!! Lol We're been to lots and lots of resorts in the Caribbean and this one is pretty nice. The pool was great in the morning nice and cool, untill about noon or so, then hot tub warm!!! But on the plus side, it's nice and cool when you get out!!! Lol Hopefully my firestick will work with their internet, and dinner will be good. We are going to see the QUEEN Tribute show tonight as we both love that band. Hopefully it's good!!!! Enjoy the pics! Day 4 Update out of 10 How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsi Pop???? If you've ever seen the commercial for this the answer is 4!!! Ironically it took 4 times to get my wristband to work!!! It had been blinking red for the last 2 days, meaning it's not letting you in!! Frustrating. Especially when you go to the lobby 4 times, then finally get a new wristband!! Ok. So now it's working and I'm a happy camper it didn't take 5 lobby visits. LOL Last night we went to the buffet. It was Italian night and the food was pretty good. Prior to dinner, I went to the lobby bar for a Cosmopolitan martini. I asked the bartender what they had for vodka, he replied Grey Goose and Stoli. I said great you have Grey Goose?? He then replied NO!!! I ended up with Stoli, which was fine, but I did get a kick out of that. The shows and the live entertainment are in the Ambar lobby. Unfortunately. It's so hot in there. We couldn't sit in there. People brought fans and were fanning themselves. We sat outside where you couldn't see too well but there was a nice breeze. Beautiful weather again today. Got my favorite chairs at the pool around 8:30 am. Took a walk down to Majestic Mirage this morning since they had cleared a path from the seaweed. We stayed at the Mirage in January and I wanted to see if the whole length of the beach was full of seaweed. For the most part it is. I was able to take a quick swim in front of the Mirage, in a small area, where miraculously there wasn't any seaweed. Today I discovered Enso. The best bartender. He works near the pineapple and coconut stand. As I came in from the beach. I was thirsty so I asked him if he could make me a drink with cranberry juice. Orange juice, coconut rum and Stoli. He obliged and it was delicious. So I drank those all day and tipped him well. He said it was a Madras without the rum and vodka. He was funny. I told him we'd call it the MELANIE today!!! Lol We did breakfast at the beach restaurant and it was great. They came around with meat paella at lunch so had some of that. There was a couple of pool games and then a live singer at the pool. He danced too!! We headed to Takara at Esmarelda tonight. Hassel to get over there. 3 trolleys. The service was non existent at that restaurant. The food was good but we never saw our waiter. We actually gave our order to the manager thinking he was the waiter!!! Lol. Oh well, the food was OK. Tomorrow is Tequila!!! Met some folks today in the pool who recognized us from the pictures and read this site. Enjoy the pics. Didn't take too many today since I was busy drinking the MELANIE drink!! Day 5 Update out of 10 Great Day!!! Beach was perfect. Or near perfect. It was clean and lots of people were in the water. The pictures will show you how great it looked today!! I'm a beach girl so I was loving this day❤❤❤ The day started off about 740am. Went down to the pool area. The towel hut opens at 8am, not a minute sooner. When it opened up I went to get some towels. After giving my room number to the towel handler, I was quickly told that I DIDN'T return yesterday's towels!!! WHAT?????? I know I had a few MELANIE drinks, but surely I returned them!!! I remember the guy in the bright white pants singing!! I could tell he wasn't very happy with me and I thought, AM I going to towel jail???? Why would I keep them??? Boring tan towels??? Well thankfully after I begged for new towels, he reluctantly gave me new towels!!! Thank you Sir, but I promise you I threw the wet towels in that wet towel thingy!! Lol By the way I've had a few requests for the MELANIE Drink ingredients!!! Simple: cranberry, orange juice, coconut rum and Stoli vodka. Pour to taste!!🍸🍷🍻🧋 lol enjoy!! Went to Las Brisas for breakfast again. We really enjoyed it there. I like everything on the menu. There's always a beautiful breeze as you drink your Mimosas!! We had Serrento eggs, banana crepes and eggs Benedict. All very tasty. See pics. Off to that beautiful Punta Cana beach that I remember from past trips without all that seaweed. It was beautiful. I was in heaven. Now that's a beautiful beach and the water felt great. There's lots of little 6 inch silver fish that like to swim near you. They don't hurt you. They are interesting to see. I met a few, meaning 4 people who spoke English. Most guests here this week are not speaking English. I only speak English, so really can not talk with a lot of people who can't speak English. Met a few people who have been following the updates, and it was nice to meet them. Actually met a couple earlier in the week from Boston, my original birth place, that vacation here often and that have been reading the updates. Having dinner at Tequila with them tonight!!! Went back to Las Brisas for buffet lunch. The grouper bites were delicious as well as the enchiladas. Everything was great including the service. There's never a large amount of people there and it's got a great atmosphere with a beautiful view of the ocean. It's become one of my favorite places to eat at. Spent the rest of the afternoon at the beach and the pool with new friends. The pool still gets pretty warm in the afternoon, but it is August!!! I must mention Marlene, our pool server. She has been fantastic. She even tried to make the MELANIE today for me, so she could outshine Enso!!! Lol. She did a great job!! I have to say that today may have been my favorite day so far since the beach was so nice. Off to Tequila tonight for dinner and hoping it meets or exceeds my expectations. Hope you all enjoy Day 5 pictures!! Update Day 6 out of 10 Started out with a few hiccups. Question of the day: How many members are in the Jackson 5?????? The answer coincides with how many times we have been to the lobby to fix these dang bracelets!!! When mine was fixed the other day because it was flashing red after they fixed my husband's wristband, my hubby didn't try his till last night after dinner. Now his was flashing RED!!! SO OFF WE GO BACK TO THE LOBBY AGAIN TO FIX THESE WRISTBANDS!!!! So frustrating!!! Anyway, we had dinner with our new friends, the Silva's, Rick and Leona at Tequilas last night. Place was pretty empty at 7pm. Sat outside. Nice breeze. They brought over margaritas and an appetizer basket, which was tasty. We ordered fajitas. Leona and I and the guys ordered Burritos. The guys liked theirs, but I was unimpressed with the fajitas. They were stuck to the pan and dry. I didn't complain because I had eaten quite a bit from the appetizer basket. Shortly after finishing the entrées the wind picked up and a storm blew in. Lots and lots of rain!!! Everyone ran into the center of the restaurant. After about 15 minutes or so, we got another table and ordered dessert. The rain was needed to cool off the main pool, and it did just that. I took pictures of the restaurant and the food and the passing storm!!! Lol Soooo that leads us up to today and this morning. Went out to get towels about 830am. I have to say that this is the ONLY resort I've been to that still has open pool and beach chairs at 10am. So thats nice for those who like to sleep in a bit. Anyway, back to the towel hut I go and encountered THE ONE TOWEL GUY WHO CLEARLY DOESN'T LIKE ME!!! I asked for 4 towels as I have done and received for the past 5 days and was totally shut down. He literally said, NO 4 TOWELS FOR YOU. Everyone gets 1 each. I asked him if the rules had changed because I had been getting 4 a day, along with our friends. But he clearly wasn't going to hand me those towels. Just 30 seconds prior he handed other folks 4 towels, but he wasn't budging on me. So I simply asked if the rules had changed and he said, Yes rules are changed. Only 2 for you. So I sent hubby over to retrieve the other 2 towels, to no avail, as he was handing out 4 to others!!! Lol. Guess he really doesn't like me!!! Oh well. Saw our new friend speaking to A manager, Albania, and flash forward 5 minutes, we received our towels. Between the towel situation and these darn wristbands, I needed a drink!! Lol. But too early so I had a coffee at Las Brisas instead along with a wonderful breakfast. I can't let one unhappy employee ruin my day. And he didn't. Went down to check out the beach with high hopes it was as beautiful as it was yesterday. Unfortunately it was not today. I did walk down about a half mile to find a clear path to get in the water. Hoping tomorrow will be better. Went to Las Brisas for buffet lunch. No grouper bites today, but the food is always great there, and the servers are wonderful as well. They are all tipped well for there great service, and they truely deserve it. The rest of the afternoon was spent Between the beach and the pool. And with new friends. Marlene was again on her game as the best pool server. She is so sweet. Tonight we're off to MEAT, and I'm getting hungry as I'm writing this. Hoping our wristbands work tonight and I'm not going back to the lobby for the 6th time. And hoping the beach is beautiful tomorrow. Enjoy the photo's!!! Update Day 6 out of 10. PART 2 Wanted to let everyone know that our wristbands are now both working as of last night. Also wanted to clarify someone's confusion last night. She was confused as to WHY one person would need 4 towels. One person doesn't need 4, they only need 2. Most couples come down to the towel hut and will request 2 each. Not 4 per person. Let me tell you that the Ambar is AMAZING at disinfecting all the chairs around the pool and on the beach. In my case when I request 2 towels, one immediately goes on the chair before sitting on the chair and I use the other one to take down to the beach, when I go so I'm not sitting on a disinfected chair with bare skin. I see most people doing the same. These are different times with Covid and at least at this time with the resort at about 60%, there are lots and lots of chairs available on the beach. To avoid any future towel issues, our new friends gave us great advise. Just turn your towels in at the end of the day, and get your new dry ones at the same time for the morning!!! So that's what I did. Worked out great. Perhaps, if Covid ever settles down, and capacity increases, maybe only one towel per person will be allowed. But a shout out to Ambar for keeping everything clean and disinfected. We went to Meat last night and it was great. Hubby ordered the ribeye and I ordered the mixed grill meat platter. Both great. This morning we went to Las Brisas for breakfast. I have to say that the SERVICE here at the Ambar is the best. You don't wait to be served here. They are spectacular. One of the BEST service resorts I've been to and I've been to a lot. We will definitely return to Ambar because of the wonderful service. Unfortunately the beach is unwalkable and unsuitable for swimming this morning. Hoping for better results this afternoon or tomorrow. Again, not Ambars fault. But it's super windy and makes for a beautiful pool day!!! We are all having a great time. Hope you are all getting excited to visit here, it's really beautiful here at the Ambar in Punta Cana!!! I'll post Day 7 Update out of 10 tonight!! Day 7 Update out of 10 First and foremost I want to say Thanks to all who have sent positive comments and who enjoy reading my daily updates. My husband Greg and I travel frequently and up until this trip I have never posted a daily update. But I'm glad if only one update helps someone decide that this is the resort for them. We have been to resorts all over Punta Cana and Mexico and this Luxury Ambar resort is very nice for Adults 18 and over. The service is OUTSTANDING, and the food is really good. I for one am very happy I chose this resort. And I will definitely be back. Aside from a few hiccups. And every resort has them. This trip has been very nice. And we have met some really great people. If your waffling on this resort, I am hoping one of my updates convinces you to try it out. Day 7 started out about 9am. Got our chairs and went to Las Brisas for breakfast. I have been so impressed with the service in the Ambar restaurants. You are waited on promptly and with happy faces under those masks!!! Lol The food is excellent as well. Unfortunately the beach was not smiling as much as the waitress in Las Brisas. There was a lot of seaweed. So much so, that you couldn't walk down the beach or swim. They are doing their best to clean it up, but sometimes they lose the battle. Hoping tomorrow. Will be better😎 So the morning and afternoon consisted of spending time at the pool. Having delicious drinks, like the MELANIE and the new LEONA. The Melanie is cranberry juice,, Orange juice Coconut rum and stoli vodka. The new Leona is cranberry, pineapple, coconut rum and banana rum. Very tasty and carribean if I do say so myself. Lots of daily entertainment by the pool all day. We went to the main buffet off the lobby for lunch. Very good. Great service once again and happy smiling employees. They smile more when you tip them. You can definitely tell they are happy under those masks!! And they certainly deserve every dollar you can give them. They are truely appreciative of all tips. Back to the pool for more fun and sun. I did go down to the beach for about 30 minutes to take some pictures. There are tons of open chairs on the beach with shade or sun. Whatever you prefer. Same at the pool. If your up by 10am, you'll have no problem getting a chair. The umbrellas with chairs go faster but there are always chairs available. I love that about this resort. We ended our afternoon about 530pm to go back and shower. Tonight we decided to skip Tequila since we just ate there 2 nights ago and the main buffet has Mexican food tonight. All in all it was a great day. Hoping the beach is better tomorrow. We shall see. Again to those of you who enjoy the updates, I hope you keep enjoying them and those few who haven't commented positively, hopefully something else will make your day better!!! Enjoy the photos. Oh. Last night we went back to MEAT and it was again delicious. The service was also great. What a great restaurant. Enjoy today's photo's. Have a great evening😎 Day 8 update of 10 Another fabulous day at the Ambar Resort. Day started about 8ish this morning. Brought our towels down and got our chairs next to our new friends, Rick and Leona. Headed to Las Brisas for breakfast. Decided on the pancakes and rancho eggs that I split with Greg, and he chose the croissant sandwich. Both were tasty. My pancakes weren't that warm so I ate about half. They were good though. After that we walked down to the beach to check out the seaweed situation. Unfortunately this morning you couldn't swim or walk the beach, but we did find a small clear area in the afternoon to swim and snorkel. And that was great. I took pictures of what it looked like in the morning and then how much better it looked in the afternoon. Today we saw Kevin. Who introduced himself to us at MEAT, a few days earlier. We invited him to hang out with us today and we all had a great time. We also met another couple who are celebrating their 25th Anniversary and who are really great as well. She recognized me from these posts and we got to know them and had a good time with them as well!!! Lunch was at Las Brisas again. And today they had those grouper nuggets again that are sooooooo good!!! I have to say I love the different kinds of salads they have there as well and the desserts are good too!! Lol After lunch we all meandered down to the beach and found a small area to swim. Rick and Leona brought some bread to feed the fish and the fish came right up to us!! Pretty cool. I stood on the beach for a little while and enjoyed every second of it. The wind and the waves and the sea air. Then back to the pool I went!!! We saw Albania at Las Brisas at breakfast and told me "no more coffee for you. Just 2 cups", it's an inside joke, but she has a good sense of humor!!! The rest of the afternoon was spent meeting new people and talking about how the Ambar was updated 3 years ago and how it's so much better now!!! It's a stunning resort, but the employees are great and work so hard. Of course we had great service again from our girl Marlene!!! Thank you Marlene!!! Decided to do the buffet tonight because it's SEAFOOD NIGHT!!! And I love seafood. So the lobby bar will see me first for my Cosmopolitan that they make sthem so good there. Then off to get some yummy seafood. Then we plan to meet some new friends for drinks!! Tomorrow is our last full day. Hoping for great weather and a beautiful beach tomorrow!!! Enjoy the photos!!! Talk to you tomorrow!!! I will have to post Day 9 and 10 on another review. I've used all the space on this review!!! So the last 2 days and my final recap will be on another review!!!

Myself hubby and son stayed at this hotel in July, came back on July 13th, only just writing this review as I had covid from hotel and was very poorly for 2 weeks when I got home. We were expecting luxury from this hotel but few things let it down , not enough seats to watch evening entertainment, the entertainment was ok some nights but we felt it was half naked dancing nearly every night , they were very good dancers but I felt I was watching a porn show some nights , on the food front I’m not vegan but there is not much choice for you if your a vegan , I wanted Almond milk they didn’t seem to no what that was, food was hit and miss, my son had bad stomach for most of the week, the pool was terrible we could never get drinks from the swim up bar, it was always full of Americans who were loud and they only seemed to serve them, maybe because they think they only tip , we tipped lots of staff because if we didn’t we wouldn’t get served , some of the staff were not friendly mainly the pool staff and some in the restaurants, entertainment staff 100% they were brilliant, we also felt this was more suited to 18 - 30 as they had a lot of pool partying which people were drunk out of their head, and as I am a none drinker didn’t suit me , beach was terrible covered in seaweed, my hubby said coffee staff were very good, and the girls who welcome you in to buffet restaurant were very friendly. The holiday was ruined unfortunately by the thief who stole my son necklace out of safe, security were in our room for hours checking through all our stuff we felt like the criminals, after few days we asked if they had interviewed all staff but obviously no one was going to own up to this , in the end they gave us 3 massages as compensation, but it ruined my sons holiday which was a treat for his 21st birthday and the chain was his present. We won’t be going back Dominica again because of this , we are very well travelled and have never experienced this before.

Spent ten days here on a couples holiday and it was fantastic. The only negatives were a beach that was very full of seaweed (expected at this time of year and the lengths they go to clear it are amazing) and the amount of other hotel guests using the Ambar pool, again this is expected as it’s the best one in the resort and chikd free. The entertainment team are fantastic m, especially “Miguel”. Very welcoming and friendly. The whole entertainment team work extremely long hours and I have no idea where they get their energy but hats off to them. Our server “Adalaidae” by the pool was also amazing. Always happy to help and one of the very few people to serve with a smile. The room were large and well air conditioned. Showers were fantastic. The buffet at all meal times was fantastic with great variety. Our favourite was breakfast at the “las Brisas” with an ocean view. The cocktails at Limbu are outstanding and you can order any cocktail you like so don’t be shy and stick to the menu. Thoroughly enjoyed and would go again.

The hotel staff was great. I want to point out a few: Antonio, our mayordomo was very welcoming; Adelaida, our server by the pool, was THE BEST… look for her when you get there; Jacob, one of the drivers gave us a tour to some of the other hotels in the area and he was reprimanded for doing so… (let them do that. Thanks to that tour I may come back with my family to Fantasia hotel); and Maira, oh Maira, our server at the lobby both nights, she was an angel…it was so hot that she made us fans with pieces of carton… amazing!!! The only downside of the trip was the reservations for the different restaurants in the area. Even though we made reservations for Thursday and Friday (Las Olas Brazilian and Mika, the Japanese restaurant) we were not on the list… and contrary to what I’ve known all my life about the great service provided by our Dominican neighbors, the “capitanes” at each restaurant were not as welcoming… after 30 mins of begging, we got in. The staff at Las Olas, meh…, however, the great Tania at the Japanese restaurant changed our bad mood and we had a blast. Bless Her!!! Our last night we ate at Meat with no reservation problems. Our server, Juan, was a little shy, serious and quiet until he sang Happy Birthday to another table and we saw his true calling!! We saw him smile. My friends and I had a great time, but the app for restaurant reservations should be working better next time.

Stayed with my childhood friends for a relaxing celebration of our 50th birthday. Not as expected and not the best, the food wasn’t great. The Brazilian restaurant is a disaster from beginning to end. Also went through lots of trouble with our reservations. However some staff made a huge difference in our stay and I am extremely grateful for them and the fantastic service the offered us Adelaida from the pool area was super sweet, attentive and a very hard worker. I really hope someone appreciates her, she’s great. Tania at Maiko was the funniest, nicest lady you can ever find. She is the shinning star at that restaurant! Mayra at the bar in the lobby of the Ámbar is superb, always with a smile and trying to make us feel welcomed and taken care of at all times. Jaykob, the golf cart driver, was excellent. Went out of his way to show us around, got in trouble with one of his supervisor for it. To his supervisor: If it wasn’t for Jaykob, my friend would have never seen the castle hotel where she now plans to take her daughter, so commend him for his marketing skills. Antonio was very nice and accommodating. Last but not least, the girls at the spa were super nice, attentive, courteous and make our experience great. Again, the food and restaurant reservations service have a lot of room for improvement. The orientation process at reservations was not clear, could’ve been simpler and more accommodating. However the human quality of some of the employees made a world of a difference!

First, we have have been going to the Caribbean and Mexico and staying at All Inclusive resorts for 35 years. This is our least favorite. We have been there a week and are just returning today. The staff is friendly for the exception of the wait staff. Food is ok. The Italian is the best for food and service and NORMALLY it is our least favorite. All of the room and resort furniture is equivalent to cheap outdoor furniture. We stayed at the adult side and there was only one pool. They need more as it was way too crowded. They had hundreds of lounge chairs squeezed TIGHTLY together. You literally had to get into the chair by crawling from the bottom. You were only allowed one pool towel per day. Due to being eco friendly……it was soooo hot in all of the restaurants and very hard to sleep in your room. We understand it is hot as we have been coming to the Caribbean for 35 years, but all the more reason to have it a little cooler. Hamlet at the pool bar was great and also Maria and Nilsa in the lobby. We had a good time but will not be returning.

Just returned yesterday from an excellent stay at Ambar! We had a swim up room that faced the main pool and was right next to Las Brisas for buffet dining. My one complaint was that I paid for a corner suite but was told that it was "not available" due to some maintenance issues. Yeah, sure... Anyway, the suite we were changed to actually worked out better and we were compensated for the change. The room was clean, cooled off and ready to go. Taking advice from this very website, we booked our restaurants a couple of days in advance of arrival and so we were able to experience Portofino, MEATS, Makido and Limbo. They were all very nice but Portofino was our favorite of the restaurants to eat. If you decide not to eat at one of these restaurants, the buffet in Palmyra is always available for dinner. We loved every bite of food at Ambar no matter where we ate! Drinks were aplenty at the pool, restaurants, beach, etc. Music was always playing, celebrating was always happening and service was always servicing. Everyone we encountered from the front desk to the restaurants were very friendly and accommodating. Shoutout to Watson our butler and to Aleudy who was one of our servers as we did one evening dinner at the beach. Truthfully, everyone was very warm, friendly and helpful. Tipping always helps and is just a kind gesture but the service is still A+ without it. We plan to return without a doubt to Bahia Principe Luxury Ambar. And we would recommend it to anyone that asks. Splurging a bit for a room with a swim up pool is totally worth it.

Excellent place, 2nd visit to hotel. First time we went we had a butler assigned to our block, as did each block, this time it was all done via the app ( preferred the butler per block as made it more special). Originally booked a standard deluxe room, but upgraded to a swim up room and so glad we did with the current sunbed situation. I can not believe people actually get out of bed at sunrise to save beds and then do not appear for hours! I do think staff need to monitor the situation and maybe provide an umbrella per two sunbeds and if you don’t claim your reserved sunbed within certain time remove the towels for someone that actually wants to sit in the sun. My fave restaurants have to be Limbo and Meat and there cocktails are fab. The other restaurants were ok, barring one which was appalling for food and staff attending to you ( this was in the new build at Ambar, that provide meat on the stick). The coffee shop is a must, fresh coffee and lovely cakes. Sports bar the chicken wings, nuggets and Mozzarella sticks are so nice. Big shout to Miguel in the main buffet ( does the Omelettes), always a smile on his face and a little song, such a happy chap. Also the maid in block 67, such a nice lady ( unfortunately didn’t get her name). I would happily return for a 3rd visit and was sad to leave, but 100% will be booking a swim up room.
