Aquamarine is one of five (or was it six?) Bahia Principe resorts, all forming part of a 'mega resort' complex. This could be considered either a blessing and a curse, but you really really need a map for at least the first few days. It also means that there's a lot of walking to be done, depending on your interests. We were there for ten days, and were still finding parts of the mega resort that we didn't know existed. Rooms are large, well-appointed and clean. Beds are firm but comfortable. The mini-fridge comes stocked with drinks, water and even some beer, and is replenished daily. When we made our reservations, we requested three things - pool side of building, two queen beds, and not ground floor. When we checked in, we actually had none of those -- we were garden side, one king and on ground floor -- zero for three. After some discussion, staff said they could accommodate our request, but were told that we would have to wait till the following day. The next day, our new room was the same as the old - zero for three again. So rather than worry about this further, we accepted what we had and moved on. Still confused about how this request was so hard though. Strangely our room did not come with a blanket for the bed, just a sheet. We called the front desk, and requested a blanket. We had to call again at bedtime, but one was eventually delivered. Guard your blankets though, as the next day, cleaning staff removed the blanket, and we once again had to request another blanket. This happened twice more before we got smart and hid the blanket in a drawer each morning. The resort grounds are beautifully manicured and well maintained. There is even a natural mangrove wetland in the middle, which was a nice break from buildings and lawns, and also very cool place to see local wildlife. The many many pools are big, beautiful and well-used -- get up early to reserve your chairs. Sadly, the beach was a long way off - at least a 10-15 minute walk. Thankfully, you can also take one of the many carts that circle about the six resorts. The beach itself was lovely, the water was clean and warm. Again, chairs are at a premium so get there early. Buffets and bars are always close by, so you won't have to go back to your room for much. We walked the beach every day, enjoying it very much. However, no matter if you go left or right, its nothing but resort after resort after resort. There were many different restaurants to choose from (reservations required), and many buffets. Food was abundant and choices were excellent. There's even a coffee shop at one of the resorts which was well-located on the walk to the beach, and served coffee tea and snacks. Staff were almost all patient and kind, although the language barrier proved a challenge occasionally. The Adults Only didn't mean a whole lot, other than there were no children in the Aquamarine pool or running in the hallways. Overall we personally prefer slightly smaller resorts, but if you don't mind the size and distances involved, I recommend this resort. …
