What others have mentioned is very true: We all receive a VIP bracelet, but the color makes a big difference on what areas and restaurants you have access. The Lifestyle marque has several properties: Tropical, Cofresi, Presidential and Royal Suites as well as villas. You will have access depending on the color/level you have. This is the most confusing part. Everyone is called VIPs but it really doesn't mean anything. For example, we thought we had booked a room with 2 queen beds (Glad our friends didn't join us). Some of the beaches as well as bars and restaurants are only accessible with your level so don't expect that you have full access when they tell you that there are 10+ restaurants. With our level we could only make one reservation for our entire stay. However, the food is relatively good variety and consistent. We were told they would have veg*n options and they did, but rarely a protein. In a country where food typico would always include Frijoles, it was very challenging. The Pearl often had Quinoa and mushrooms. Indochine was amazing, but again, we were not "permitted" to dine there every night. If you travel globally, this place is a wonderful value. Set your expectations accordingly. The drinks are weak & or watered down, but would you really want to be somewhere that everyone is hammered by 1pm? The performances were amazing and included! We also felt the excursions were excellent and affordable (We went to the Damajagua Waterfalls and our friends did the The Cable Car Puerto Plata ). We also really enjoyed some of Spa treatments as well. The jacuzzi's are not hot like many cultures prefer. It was amazing to have access to the ocean front and so many different pools. Also, if you tip, the staff remember you and take better care of you. Honestly, I think we will find a different resort that does not allow kids under 18 or 21. Sounds like a parent describes some of this issue in great detail. I will add, most of the personal speakers seemed to be blasting music and were on the arm of what appeared to be underage kids.

Lifestyle is a great property. Stayed many times over the years. This room I’m disappointed with mainly cause the air conditioning blows straight on you and the best way to confront this was to shut the thermostat off while sleeping. Gets a little warm and humid towards morning but still bearable. Not sure yet about the black looking mold around the vent? Like warm water at best. Half tv channels don’t work.

I had a very nice time at The Tropical. The reviews had me very concerned on what I would have walked into for a 7 day trip but I was pleasantly surprised by how updated everything was! We arrived at the resort and were offered mama Juana after we paid for our all inclusive packages and Our junior suite was very cute and modern. The only down fall was the toilet. It would easily get clogged ( apparently you aren’t supposed to place toilet paper in it — lol, oopsie). The room also has an air conditioner and fan which was so lovely! House keeping would come early in the morning so if you’re not a morning person your room will get skipped. I think one day our room was cleaned in the afternoon which was pretty nice. I love how cleanly everything was. I felt very comfortable. They also provided us with Champaign, fruit and cheese in celebration of my best friend’s birthday. So sweet! I will say that the people around the resort looking to sell you things is super annoying. Especially on your first day. The Casablanca has some very nice employees. They make you feel welcome and loved. Some will ignore you but it’s okay. You’ll find your people and dine in with the same staff every day. Their pork chop/ pork loin is delicious! Can’t forget their ice cream station! The staff will assist you with all that you need. I appreciate them so much. Now for dinner when you choose your restaurants, you HAVE to go to el pilon ( Dominican food). They’re tilapia was to die for and their Sancocho 🤤😍. It’s been 3 weeks and I’m still talking about it. The other place that’s delicious is blue lagoon( seafood) just ask for the soup ! Ohh my goodness 😋! So worth it. We also went to el rodizio and it was eh.. it a Brazilian steak house where you MUST dress nice. Men must wear long pants of any kind FYI. Or they will give you one ( stretchy to wear). Moomtaz was not good at all. It was very poor. However the staff that do work their are so pleasant and funny. We had such a good time teaching each other Spanish / English words. As an excursion we went horseback riding and omg I loved every minute of it. It’s so worth it and right around the corner of the resort. It’s a must! The day activities were okay, the guys are so funny and entertaining that it makes you want to join in on the fun. The drinks by the bungalows near the beach ? 10/10 especially the espresso martini. Also, go to the coliseum every night! Great shows. I wish they had more night life. 10 pm is early to be in bed.

We stayed in a villa with on an all inclusive trip. This included daily housekeeping and Maria was so charming and always taking care of everything. She was delightful. It also included a chef who arrived each day to prepare our breakfast. he worked well with Maria and both were always professional, considerate, timely and worked well together. Joel and his team really made the trip special for us. Joel made all arrangements and checked in daily to ensure we had everything we needed during our stay.

The property itself is nice. Staff is very accommodating. Rooms are clean. If you do not get the all inclusive it will cost way more to eat there and they charge a flat rate per meal which is ridiculous. $25 for breakfast, $35 for lunch and $65 for dinner per person. If you are looking to have lobster / lambs chops/ sea bass you will need to be VIP which is more on top of your all inclusive fee. You can take a cab off the resort to downtown to eat as well. As an RCI member you will be called for a "welcome package". It's just a LHVC vacation plan scam. Look up the reviews yourself. Spare yourself the lost time and headache.

This resort has plenty review of food to eat and plenty to drink and plenty to do day and night, great experience overall. The rooms at the tropical could be bigger. We chose there because it’s the closest to the beach access. All the pools are great. The restaurants outside of the buffets are average to above average. The buffets are just average typical resort experience when it comes to resort food and good price for all inclusive. But the drinks are always flowing and The service and staff are amazing. It was a fantastic week long vacation as a family.

The resort is definitely dated and not well maintained. Although our room was clean and spacious. The water pressure in the shower was non-existent. The beach area and pools were great. Never felt too crowded. Food was ok not great. They serve Pepsi products, which I know is a big deal for many. We were shocked when they told us there was a $200 fine if we lost our key card, Never heard of that in any hotel or resort we've stayed. That was ridiculous. Thankfully we kept our keys. There is also a fee to get the key for the room safe. Why?? The resort is huge and so there are shuttles and golf carts all over the place. The shuttles ran pretty frequently. Never had to wait more than 5-7 minutes for one. However with all the gas powered shuttles and golf carts there was a scent of gasoline throughout the resort. Staff were pleasant and friendly. It's a pretty hilly resort so it may be difficult for those who have trouble walking. Some of the rooms were pretty high up and there were no elevators. WiFi is an extra cost and is very unstable. Kept having to login. Overall we had a pleasant stay. It's a 3 star resort- not a premium experience as is shown on their website.

Please don’t ever come to this place! There is no such a thing as no all inclusive option. Forced to pay their all inclusive fees for 6 nights and end up locked out of my room one day before my flight with a kid with diarrhea caused by their horrible food and/or water. Terrible service! Took me 2h to check in and it will take me 2 seconds to run away from this caos! Beach is very dirty, not well maintained. There are no activities for the kids. The kids place is a dark and dated place. There was only one volleyball that was never available. Forgot my hat at the restaurant after dinner… looked for it first thing in the morning… gone! Left my towels on the pool chairs in the evening… gone! Had to fill a report and/or pay for the missing towel cards! No hot water in a low pressure shower. Invited to do a tour at the property by LVHC… offered to pay $33,000 CASH for their VIP!!!! They pushed and pushed to sell it and in the end they were asking for $500 down + plus monthly payments + free nights for a total of 5K FOR WHAT?!!… WOULD NOT PAY A PENNY FOR THIS PLACE! Not well managed or maintained! STAY AWAY!!!!

Any potential customers wishing to stay at The Tropical should be made aware of a number of issues. 1. If you fly into any airports other than Puerto Plata or Santiago, travelling to the resort is either difficult and/or expensive. For us the only option was to hire a car for 2 weeks, because it was 25% of the cost of two taxi journeys from Punta Carna at $550 per journey. The staff at reception are hopeless - with the exception of JAIMY who was a star. If you ask the same question of 5 different different reception staff, you will get 5 different answers. Please be very clear that if you do not take out the VERY expensive all inclusive package - then you cannot buy either food or drink in the hotel. It is cashless. We were given an orange badge of shame which clearly stated "NOT ALL INCLUSIVE" However, despite being actively discouraged not to leave the "compound" after a short walk across the beach there is a perfectly adequate shop selling most basic food stuff situated between two decent restaurants, Charros and Skylight. The locals were friendly and helpful. Walking more than a mile away from the resort is very difficult if you like exploring, due to the extent of private property and very busy highways. The organised trips from the hotel were worthwhile doing. The extent of hard selling by Tropical staff becomes tedious. This extends from New units to massages, and all things in between. Most people stay on sun loungers near to the pool, but the beach is far nicer. It is relatively small but has lovely warm water and good sea life if you snorkel.
