This is a resort that caters to locals and upsells VIP. If you are looking for basic accommodations, but still good service... this is the place to go. CAUTION: This is not the usual 5 stars all-inclusive resort that most overseas tourists are looking for. Still good food and limited selection of alcohol (unless u are VIP).

Traveled Feb 21 to 28th, what an amazing resort, we had a great check in experence at the lobby desk, no issue when we arrived early around 1 pm, room would be ready at 3 pm and as promised it was. At check-in they gave us our braclet so we could eat and drink until our room was ready. Porter desked looked after our lugguage and moved it into our room at 3. Stayed in the 40 series building 3rd floor overlooking the pool and Cofresi beach, room was very clean and well stocked everyday by our house keeper Santa, Overall great vacation and would go back again through Transat.

If you get the Groupon, okay. If you go with a member and stay in the Villas even better. Otherwise, opt for a place with decent food and amenities. Don't believe they won't try to sell you. We ditched the dude every day at 8AM who wanted to take us to breakfast! There were soooo many children in all of the pools, even the adults only. It's like Latin Disney! The only hot tubs that are hot are at the spa. The buffet food is terrible so make reservations for the restaurants. And if you're very "tanned" like me, you will definitely sense some tension from some of the folks here. If you travel a lot and are accustomed to nice beaches, great hotels and amazing local dining, this place is not for you. Definitely not staying here again and wouldn't recommend it to friends. Oh wait, the landscape and vegetarian was beautiful... there I found something positive!

our things were stolen from the room by the room service lady name isabel martinez. we notifie the hotel staff and nobody cared they told us they would open a investigation and will give us an answer in 72 hours and nobody did its been 30 days the hotel never cared and never even contacted us,, i try contacting the hotel and the person i spoked to from the legal department (juan carlos caceres) and he stated he has contacted the finance department and to give him a few days. i called him a few days later and he stated he never told me he contacted the finance department since they dont even have that. these people are all in on the scheme this hotel is pulling.. starting from the security. they steal your stuff and everyone gets a cut and keeps their mouth quiet. I am now hiring a attorney to sue this place and see if any action is takin since i have all the conversations recorded

As a VIP member I am so disappointment at the way the resort downgraded from what I would call a 5 star resort back in early 2010s to what it is now, a 2/3 star resort. My husband and I booked a 8 night stay at Cofresi. A very loud music was played every day by the pool. They also had what appeared to be a DJ yelling loudly in Spanish. We couldn’t use our balcony at all because of the noise.... Majority of the people staying at the resort are locals. Because of that, the resort caters food and music to them. Expect Spanish music only and Spanish based meals at majority of restaurants. Beans & rice for days... There is also a significant language barrier as most staff speaks broken English. They need to do better providing English speaking staff to English speaking guests. The restaurants are not what they used to be. No white tablecloths for members anymore; food quality has been substantially downgraded. I no longer felt like a VIP... food is very heavy, just felt really unhealthy being there. A lot of menu options had items out of stock but I think they decided to permanently cancel them. For example, their menus still show lobster as an option but we were told repeatedly they were out of them. I remember dining at Jazz when I was in the resort couple of years ago but it has been closed. The VIP World restaurant is also not what it used to be... they even put cheap patio furniture in there. The only restaurant I’d recommend is Anya’s lounge at the tower. It is the last restaurant that vaguely retains the quality of the food served before. Upkeep is lacking. Restaurants need to be remodeled. The cushiony Beach chairs were dirty. Each day, we had to wait long time for staff to come and give us pillows and towels. There are only three VIP beaches left and I don’t think they even pay attention of who goes there (except for the NV beach). Because of this, it was difficult to find quiet spot to read a book. The locals also have a custom of walking around with boom boxes so it can get really loud everywhere. The so-called VIP beach is not even VIP as everyone has access. I won’t even mention the quality of people hanging out there... most jacuzzi areas on the beaches also appeared dirty. The reason why I bought my membership years ago was because of “members only” Serenity beach. Now this beach is closed permanently. The map they give to guests says “temporarily closed” but it is closed for good. I think they are going through a legal battle over land and they abandoned all the buildings on that beach. Speaking of the map it is out of date. So many restaurants/bars on it say member only but they are pretty much opened to everyone. We were upset at the small amount of member-only bars left. They also keep creating higher “ranks” so if you bought a certain membership you will be downgraded every couple of years. We bought the VIP “member” package. Now, they created “chairman” status and these guests get all the nice meals and beaches that VIPs used to get. Basically, our status was downgraded meaning they actually breached our contract...
