Loved it. I read many reviews about this resort and there's a lot. Before I continue I must emphasise, the employees throught the resort are very helpful and friendly, they are very professional and gives you the most hospitable feeling, every one of the staff members I've met or seen smiled, waved, or said hello and was willing to help you or find someone who can. You get the warmth of the island and the resort from the people. "VIP" Gold. Is the way to go here.. "VIP" Gold. Has access to everything but I think one private beach, a couple restaurants and golf carts, that's for higher level members, which is only a small percentage of the resort there's more than enough for everyone to enjoy. The place is huge and there's a lot to enjoy Lifestyle Cofresi, presidential, and tropical Resort Puerto Plata. [  ] The place is exceptionally clean, the trees and gardens are well manicured  and there's security cameras and  security staff everywhere. The pathways are well lit at night, high visibility painted spots for extra caution, speed bumps at designated crossings for extra safety. There is a very comfortable vibe throughout the resort. You can get around via the shuttle service that runs throughout the resort with stops every 15mins at pickup locations  Accommodation [  ] My wife and I stayed in a one bedroom suite at the Sunrise Suites with a view of the beautiful ocean, we were on the second floor but could still see the ocean from the extra large balcony. The suite was very clean, spacious and very inviting and totally modern with full kitchen, refrigerator (stocked with beer, pop, water, fresh fruits, yoghurt, and cheese replenished daily) microwave, toaster, blender, and full utensils if you would like to cook or if you have the time off from all the activities that is. Free WiFi in the suite and private beaches, very fast and reliable. The entertainment [  ] The entertainment crew is one of a kind, From pool activities, games during the day, entertainment at night by the pool bar or at the coliseum they always had a smile on their face The food. [  ] The food was great. there was never a shortage of anything at the buffet. At the (VIP) beaches someone was always ready to take our food or drink order. And if you need a special drink mixed to your taste, not a problem, there's also crapes the way you like it and a full on ice cream bar.  The lounge at Azul (VIP) for drinks, appetisers or lunch is perfect place to go if you need time off from the beaches or pools. With so many buffet and restaurants to choose we had dinner at a different restaurant almost every night. the food and the service was excellent at every restaurant. The beach. [  ] The beach was clean, seaweeds are cleaned every morning and there's no broken shells but I always recommend water shoes. The first few days the water was very clear and the waves were calm but after the wind picked up on day four the waves got bigger and the water had more seaweeds, if you go past the waves it was not bad but my wife preffers to be close to the waters edge. But still no loss  there are lots of pools on the resort, and some of (VIP) pools almost seem private. With no shortage of lounge chairs or cabanas on the beach or at the pool of course you may not get a cabana if you show up at 2:00pm depending on the season  but there was lots available while we were there and that was only on one beach.. Overall experience [  ] Overall experience I'll give an eight since it started a bit shaky with the salesman  and it rained all day the second day, on day three it got a lot better. The (VIP) member Gold band gives you a different experience, from a room to a suite, quiet and relaxing private beaches and pools more restaurants, a true lifestyle experience. And of course you have full access to the resort so if you want to put the book away and party you can do that to. [  ] I must close with a special thank you to  Gerald and Jeffry who guided us through the membership process also all the wonderful and friendly staff we met during our stay. [  ] Will I come back. Definitely. But lifestyle also has more resorts to visit. [  ] If you would like to try the (VIP) member experience you can message me here. S.Simmonds Ontario, Canada.

Bartender Wilfredo De Los Santos was excellent, and very dedicated to his job and helped you out in any way he could. Great drinks and so energetic and fun - he was the best bartender there and deserves a raise !!!!!! When you have a bartender who takes care of his clients it makes a big difference to your vacation. Thank you Wilfredo! Augustino Zarcone Canada

We loved this resort!! The only thing bad was so many stairs to climb for every level of the resort. We are older (66, 68 and 71) and we enjoyed the food and the entertainment. We stayed for 28 days and it rained only once bad. The check in was a breeze and we were upgraded to a Junior Suite, which is wonderful! The entertaining group of Mini Me, Nikki, Coffee and Ninja (aka Spiderman) were a great joy. They were sitting and visiting with us everyday and when it was time to play the games, they always called for me over the intercom to please come play. We had a great time. Carlos was a very funny guy that sat and visited with us daily also and Charles (aka Eddie Murphy) were very fun. They helped set up the water sports : kayaking and so forth. We highly recommend this resort if you are young and do not have any walking problems. There is a shuttle bus that comes around every 20 minutes and you are welcome to use it when you want to get from place to place. They also have golf carts that will come get you but you will have to call and request it. Amy is the best waitress at the buffet Pearl. The actual beach area for Confresi is small but the beach extends to other resort areas that can be used too. Take your passwords for your phone with you if you don't remember them...lol. I tried to get the wi-fi sims card put in and it messed up my phone and I could not access my phone at all because I couldn't remember passwords. My own fault. You can get one hour free of wi-fi at the resort lobby every day. For every week you are there you get three specialty restaraunts. We LOVED the Mexican and the Moonlight. All were good but those we visited more than once. We loved being there. Everyone is very friendly!!!!

Only good thing was the sun and heat and food was really good. The rest was terrible. Staff was unfriendly. The smell was awful smelt like sewage the whole 2wks we were there.no hot water for 2 weeks.pools were dirty and NO Beach it was pitiful. Went to the Blue Lagun restaurant and have never been treated so poorly EVER because we didn't have a shiny gold bracelet never ever have we been treated like we were nothing. It was not a VIP restaurant so everyone should have been treated with the same kindness and hospitality. Expensive and they are pushy for you to go into there stores.way to many stairs and staff was rude.will never go back and everyone we meet said the same thing .worst vacation we have ever been on

Very big resort, spa people always bugging you even when you’re sitting on your balcony. It’s a timeshare. Just say no thanks and you don’t have to go on it. I did have a hot stone massage. It was awesome.

Beautiful location that has been ruined by ill conceived development and bad management. Nothing that demolition and new construction wouldn’t cure. Dirty poorly maintained rooms. Mediocre food. Walking around requires dodging golf carts, shuttle busses and commercial vehicles. Very structured caste system. Beach is segregated by caste - Cofresi gets a tropical slum area with crowded “cabanas” that are falling apart. Intense sales pressure to purchase into their third world paradise. “No” results in increased pressure and further negative responses results in shunning and dismissal.

Rooms are very dirty and outdated. Moldy. Had to go to 3 rooms. 2nd room had dead ants in the bed. Asked to get clean sheets and this is what we got, clumps of long black hair and then was asked if it was mine. Very laughable, I have really short hair.

Avoid this hotel at all costs. Air Transat should not be sending people here. We stayed for 2 weeks and the whole first week was wasted changing rooms nearly daily in order to secure basic necessities- hot (even warm) water, AC, and doors that lock. Each and every one of the rooms we were given had one of these wrong- ice cold water, no water at all, broken AC, doors not locking. Reception staff could not care less. They were incredibly unhelpful and rude. The Air Transat rep was a waste also- talking to Freddy was like talking to a wall- he won’t help with anything except buying excursions. After 1 wasted week, we had to tell them to change our hotel as I wasn’t going to bathe 2 young children in cold water or without electricity anymore. Reception told us to talk to guest services. I told guest services that I was not leaving their office without a proper solution. They wanted me to leave and come back (at 1pm for a room, which always changes to 5pm when you come at 1pm). I refused and told them I will wait until a resolution is found because I will change hotels today if they don’t sort it out. After a couple of hours, and threatening to bathe in the pool with soap because the pool water was warmer than my room water, they “upgraded” us to a “junior suite”. Consider they want to charge $20 per person for this “upgrade” which I refused. It normally comes with a different color bracelet and access to another bar and beach. I just wanted a room which had basic necessities, which we got on day 8. The junior suite is not a suite. It’s a nice room where everything works- where you have hot water, and where your AC and locks work. It is what the standard should be. Do not pay to upgrade. It just does what they want to happen- people get awful rooms and get so tired of it that you pay extra. Don’t waste your time with reception. Go to guest services and refuse to leave until you are upgraded for free. Or, threaten to call your provider to change hotels entirely. The high ratings you see here are artificially inflated because they come from people who are staying as “VIP”. This is basically timeshare people. They call it a “membership” not a timeshare but it’s the same. You have to pay a huge sum of money to “buy in” and pay per stay afterwards. Do not fall for this. You can enjoy the hotel without a golf cart (that’s how they get most people believe it or not). Fees start at 15k and they will give you a special one day only deal “just for you”!for 6-8k. This is just the beginning. The nice villas and golf carts are for people who pay way more than that (some as much as 300k). Otherwise, beach is rough and not suitable for small children. Older children will have fun with the waves. Most beaches are VIP so you will likely use your towel on the beach. Which is fine and not worth the expense to upgrade, trust me. The pools are mostly good except for the one by reception which is in very rough shape. Bar drinks are mediocre at best. Buffets are fine but half of my family members got food poisoning and many other guests did too. The “a la carte” restaurants are awesome- do everything you can go get a reservation (the weekly schedule opens Sunday at 9am- be there at 830 as it gets busy fast). You have access to Casablanca buffet at the hotel next door - go and check it out. There are peacocks and it’s very nice. Better than Pearl at Cofresi but Pearl is less busy which is a benefit also. Buffet service is mostly poor and you will often wait a long time for even water. Not always but often. There is a lot of walking which we didn’t mind. There is also a shuttle that will get you everywhere you want to go. Be careful with small children due to the road traffic. I’ve never seen so much road traffic in a hotel, it’s kind of annoying. I wish it was more pedestrian friendly. If internet access is a priority for you then you will be disappointed. You get 1 hour of free wifi per day. All in one shot and cannot be used again until 24hours later (time it accordingly). You can buy wifi from the hotel - don’t as the power tends to go out quite regularly. You can buy SIM cards at the store- don’t, they are ripping you off. Buy your internet at the pharmacy (yea, believe it or not). It’s about 1/3 of the store cost and way cheaper and better than buying hotel wifi. Also, there is a sewage smell around the hotel. It comes and goes and is mostly in one area. Regardless, it’s disgusting. The hotel should immediately prioritize resolving this as it cannot be safe and sanitary. To wrap up, avoid this hotel entirely if you can. However, if you get lured by the price, fight for your basic needs. Hot water, AC, and doors that lock are not luxuries. Fight to get these needs met especially if staying over a week (it’s gonna take time). Do not pay them a penny. You cannot trust a corporation with any of your money if they cannot guarantee your basic needs. The get obviously don’t care and you shouldn’t give them any money

This was the worst resort we have ever stayed!! NO hot water had to change our room 3 times due to the water issue, phones not working, key cards not working, bathroom door broke, No water at times in the toilet, we were on our Honeymoon and it was ruined by this resort!! the pools were dirty, raw sewage smell in places, and the staff were not helpful at all! and its definitly not a place if you have mobility issues! I will definitly not go back to this place and would not recommend it to anyone! You save up for a Honeymoon away just to have it ruined, we came away very disappointed
