This resort is amazing, we have no complaints about this resort except for the evening entertainment, we found it very boring and not professionally done. Other than that I would highly recommend this resort, the staff, food, property, rooms everything was great, we will be back I just hope they improve the boring evening entertainment.
I have not one bad thing to say about this resort. For short money, you get a lot. The food, the beach, the pool, and most of all, the service was great. I always appreciate when employees take their jobs seriously and work hard to keep guests happy. I had a small issue with the location of my room. The resort staff when above and beyond to correct the issue and make me happy. I was very pleased with my stay. I plan on returning later in the season. I recommend this resort..
This resort was great. It was clean and well maintained. When we first arrived, we asked to switch rooms as the view from our balcony was not very nice (looking at air conditioners from the next hotel) and this was done very efficiently (Xusan from the front desk was very accommodating). Concierge Stephanie was friendly and made sure that our stay was satisfactory. She was able to help us book our reservations to several restaurants. Food: The food was delicious. I would highly recommend the Japonese restaurant and Mexican restaurant. The guacamole is excellent. The BBQ on the beach and the paella on the beach for lunch was delicious! Beach: very nice and lots of shade. The loungers were comfortable. Beach bar was great. Bartenders were very friendly and made fantastic drinks Pool: clean but we didn’t go to the pool Room: we were in block 3, pool view. Very clean, beds were comfortable. The washroom was in need of some renovations as the ceiling was leaking during a rain fall. It was an overall great experience. I would highly recommend this resort. …
We really enjoyed our 12 days at the Iberostar Costa Dorada. Others may have had a different experience than us but this is what we found. The drive from the airport was approx. 35 minutes. We arrived prior to our room being ready, but the staff checked us in quickly, stored our luggage and off we went to have some lunch. We wandered around the resort which was very well maintained and checked things out to find out where everything was. The resort is not huge and is easy to get around. There a couple families of peacocks wandering around so it was nice to see them every day. We got our room and headed there to get settled in. We were in Building 6 - Room 6212 which had an ocean front view. The room had a large king sized bed and re modeled bathroom. There was a bar fridge that was refreshed every day and a digital safe in the room. The building was quiet and we loved sitting on our balcony. The beach was quite nice and even though there was a fair amount of seaweed, staff tried to keep it as clean as possible. There seemed to be numerous loungers at the beach but I would agree with a few people's comments about not enforcing the "reserving" loungers first thing in the morning. After a day or two it unfortunately became a case of "If you cant beat them then join them " situation! We found the food to be very good in general and we enjoyed all three of the Al La Carte restaurants - especially the Japanese for both the food and "the show" provided as it was a Teppanyaki grill style. The Italian al la carte was the weakest of the 3 we felt. There was a snack bar closer to the beach that was open from lunch until 5 pm. After 5 pm this location transitioned into the Italian Al La Carte. The buffet was fine - fresh cooking stations so you could always find something to eat. The one problem we experienced on two occasions that there were no plates to be had at 7:30 pm - and they weren't replenished for 10-15 minutes - not a huge issue but it seemed like quite a wait at the main dining hour. After supper our favorite spot was the out door "town square" area right off of the main lobby. It had a number of tables and chairs to sit out and enjoy a drink in the warm evening weather. It was also right beside the main theatre for the evening shows so you could watch from a distance if you wanted. The main lobby bar had some common liquors for drinking but the upscale bottles were not free. The beach bar was good and all the staff very friendly and efficient ( for the most part). We are not really into the evening shows so cant really comment on them and while normally we go on a few excursions, we only went into town one day - Saw Pink Street and Umbrella Street - probably you should go once but it really wasn't the greatest. We both had massages at the spa while we were there and thoroughly enjoyed them. We both had the same lady and she was fantastic. Finally we really enjoyed many members of staff who really went out of their way to help us and make us feel at home. . Veronica from Guest Services and her young associate ( cant remember her name ) as well as two gentlemen from guest services who were in the main lobby certainly top that list. William at the main bar and the gentleman at the beach bar were super as well. among others. We had a problem a few times with the hair dryer that was in the room. It tripped the breaker for our room and we were left in the dark 3 times. However maintenance staff responded very quickly every time and after the last time replaced the hair dryer with a new one. In closing was everything perfect - not quite but the number of positives far outweighed the negatives at this resort. So much so that we will definitely return to the Iberostar Costa Dorada …
My sister and I have just returned from 2 weeks at this beautiful resort, and we are already looking forward to visiting again! We found everything to be outstanding, and having travelled quite a bit and to several destinations in the Caribbean, the bar was set pretty high. The food in every restaurant was great. Man, if you couldn’t find something suitable in the buffet, the problem was not with the resort… great salad bar, cheese board, pasta bar with cooked-to-order pasta, chicken/pork/seafood grilled to order, Mexican station, selection of breads and buns, variety of hot and regional dishes, and kids’ food station. The Mexican restaurant was our favourite, and we loved the guacamole made at our table. And the margaritas!! The Japanese restaurant was a lot of fun, and again, the food was great! The Italian restaurant was good as well, but didn’t compare with the great pasta choices at the buffet. The grounds and pools are immaculate! So beautiful. We loved stopping at the lobby bar for an afternoon cappuccino, and spending the evenings sipping wine with friends in the plaza. The afternoon Tapas and Prosecco in the plaza was a real treat one day, and the paella on the beach with a live band playing in the background, was like something out of a movie! The purified water stations and ice machines throughout the resort were very convenient. Other people have mentioned the rooms being “dated” but ours was just fine for the mere 7-8 hours per day we spent in it. Sleeping!! I have to say, the pillows and beds were sooo comfy. There were a lot of people who made this holiday fantastic, but the ones who really stand out are Francia, our housekeeper who kept our room beautiful and always left flowers and towel art ❤️; Casimira, Yara and Lizbeth at the lobby and plaza; our amazing servers Shtefany, Yissel, Kennedy and Generoso; and the guest services team, specifically Dawell, for looking after us and following up to ensure our comfort and care following a medical situation… something our Westjet rep Jonathan promised to assist with but after he begrudgingly refunded the fees from a tour we had to cancel, we never heard from him again. A big thumbs down for that guy. There are always going to be people who complain, and who can’t find good. That’s a Them problem. We loved this resort, and beautiful Puerto Plata. The best part of it all was the people of the DR. We felt so safe and so welcome. Muchas gracias. We will see you again ❤️…
My mother and I came to this resort 7 years ago and agreed we would go back when we could! In my 6 trips to the Caribbean and her 10+ trips this was the best resort we had been at. Incredible food, amazing resort infostructure and holy crap the entertainment was to die for! I'd classify it as Las Vegas worthy every single night. Fast forward forward to 2023...well that's a disappointment, Prior to arriving I had requested buildings 7 or 8 on the ground floor as previously we were in building 4 right next to the sound stage and the room shook it was so loud and if those buildings weren't available then anything but building 4 would do. Upon arrival we were given the top floor of building 4...Literally the only building we didn't want so I asked to change. They had 1 room in building 8(ironically() available in 6 hours. We said no we need the room now after our flight was delayed by 22 hours. Well we got to the 3rd floor room in building 4 and were expecting a welcome back banner like we had seen other people have in our first and second trip to this resort but instead we were hit with hit by a smell of mildew and mold in the room. I went outside to get a breather from it and the railing was way too loose for my comfort as well as at least 5 other railings i experienced in the hotel the were way too loose. I'm going to put the positives in here before I go to the worst part. Tip the staff. Treat it as if you are at home. Frank/ Robert remembered our coffee and water all week and we appreciated them for their hard work. Iberostar needs 2 bartenders at the pool bar. The 2 guys I seen working there on different days need a raise for how hard they work. Iberostar also needs to listen to the entertainment team. I talked with them briefly 7 years ago and they were so happy about how things were going. This time while speaking to them it seems that their voice has no say even though they the lifeblood of this resort. The A la carts., make sure you go before or after the buffet. Portions are small and worse than the buffet. If I had a do over I wouldn't have booked the A la carts. Alright, the worst, you ready? My favorite part about going to the Caribbean is the entertainment at night. As I said 7 years ago the entertainment was to die for, all 7 nights of it. Fast-forward to 2023, I wish I had a throwup emoji. Sadly the best show of the week was the audience karaoke. I was so looking forward to the rockshow on Friday night as that had the most potential! We left 1/2 way through even after I downed 5 rum and cokes before hand. It is the same 2 terrible women singers attempting to sing rock songs. And it wasn't just us, on the bus ride back to the airport somone had a baby that was crying and someone said it sounds better than the entertainment to which everyone applauded. So to answer peoples question,, do I go there? Yes, it is a great resort for the price. I hope Iberostar as a chain resort has a talent department so they can fix what was the amazing entertainment shows. Personally I will not be going back to Iberostar unless there is a discount involved.…
Barbie, Carolina, and anabel were great with my grandbaby, she had an excellent time and I felt really safe leaving my baby with them, and she had an amazing time. It allowed me to enjoy my vacation and enjoy adult activities with peace of mind!!!!
It was our 2nd visit to this resort. First time was 10 years ago. Most of it is the same, but added is the swim up bar. Elvis the bartender is very good. Big Mama is excellent. My wife and I were treated very well. We were disappointed that we didn't have a "Welcome Back" banner on our door, but we did have a fruit plate and bottle of sparkling wine in our room. The evening entertainment was good until the singers started singing. Dancing good, singing is terrible. I participated in the evening entertainment games. I had a blast! The Orchid Garden is beautiful but we were disappointed that the waterfall wasn't working. Food was very good. A la cartes were good, especially the Japanese restaurant. Staff works hard and want to please you.
Overall, we had a great visit, with some caveats (see the negatives below). It was well-priced, and we enjoyed our stay. Positives: - The environmentally conscious approach of the hotel is very appreciated. I like that they’re allowing some mangroves to regrow and that many of their choices reflect concern for the environment 🙂 - The waiters, bartenders, and other staff are lovely! They are all helpful and friendly and made our stay more pleasant. Santiago at El Mercado is especially great 🙂 - Highly, highly recommend you get a reservation at the Japanese restaurant. It was so fun. Our chef was Ramon, who has a great energy and enthusiasm. The food was delicious, and they were very accommodating of my wife’s seafood allergy. Very appreciated! - The soft-serve ice cream machine is a huge hit. I had more ice cream than I probably should have 😊 - The evening shows were surprisingly fun! I was skeptical at first, but it was enjoyable to sit down after a long day in the sun - The venue is beautiful. I loved walking around the grounds, seeing the peacocks and the occasional frog or turtle. - The spa was fantastic. Make sure to get an appointment (and leave a good tip!) - The piña coladas and strawberry daiquiris were free-flowing and delicious - The beach is very pleasant - I had a lot of fun with the giant chess board and ping pong tables - Friendly staff at the front desk 🙂 Needs work: - Food labeling. Very often you are left guessing what a particular dish is, and whether or not it has seafood, meat, etc. This is especially true at the buffet. For example: a pasta with red sauce that looks vegetarian. Turns out it had seafood in it. If you have allergies, take care! The restaurants do a better job of this, but they’re not perfect either. For example, the menu for the Italian place had helpful labels indicating dishes that were vegetarian or vegan. But one dish, called “pasta with grilled vegetables” did not have this label. We were left guessing “is it missing the label by mistake, or is there some ingredient we don’t know about?” The waitstaff did not know what the answer was. - Enforce the “no reserving chairs” policy. There are signs by all the umbrellas saying that chairs are not to be reserved, and yet, by 10am, most of the chairs have been taken by towels, with the towels’ owners nowhere in sight. - The Italian restaurant was very disappointing. I did not realize mozzarella sticks and tiramisu could be inedible. The Mexican restaurant is a lot better, but still kind of mediocre. - The music at the pool is way too intense, in my opinion. While I like electronic music, when I’m on vacation in the tropics, I prefer calmer, tropical vibes. And the music for the pool games can be maddening.…
The resort itself is quite nice. The staff is excellent. Our room was cleaned daily, and we never had to ask for anything. I had an issue with my transportation, and the front desk and guest services could not do enough to help me. The resort is clean and well maintained. The food is typical resort food. There was one man making omelets the first few mornings we were there. He was smiling the entire time. (Plus, he made a good omelet.) We were not impressed with any of the specialty restaurants. The beach is well maintained. There was an issue with seaweed in the water one day, but that is not the resort's fault. My issue and it is actually quite mild, is the lack of outlets in the room. One thing I found impressive, was that instead of providing plastic bottles of water in the room, each room has a glass bottle, and each floor and building has water fill stations at each end. If I remember correctly the water was filtered 5 times. …
