I'm split about how many stars to give Tubagua, so here's my breakout: I would give the rooms a 2, the view a 5, the food a 4.5, and the hike to the waterfall a 5. The good - the food was great (and even accommodated our vegetarian eating habits and allergy to nuts!), the views were insanely incredible, and the hike to God's Waterfall was amazing (basically worth staying one night just to do this hike!). Sitting out in the common area overlooking the valley/ocean, sipping on a beer, was a pretty awesome experience. The community meals where all of the travelers ate together made for a unique experience that we really enjoyed as well. The not so good - We didn't sleep well due to a few reasons. The rooms are a little TOO rustic. I get what they're going for, but I think a few…
We stayed here for a week in November. The property was amazing and everything about the stay was wonderful. The food was absolutely outstanding. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Miguelina. Juanin was an excellent guide, and we saw many birds on one of the tours. This is an excellent place to visit, and they have special resident animals, like Bill the Cat, Tonto and Mariposa the Dogs. It was absolutely perfect; peaceful and beautiful with nature all around.
We loved everything about our stay, hospitality and view were simply amazing. The food was the best we had on our trip so far. We took a hike with Juanin, a great guide who could tell us a lot about the surroundings. Overall highly recommended!
I traveled solo to Puerto Plata for 3 nights to an all inclusive resort. I usually don't stay at all-in since I get bored and seek adventure. Nevertheless, on my last night I was tired of the beach scene and started researching what there was in the area and I wanted to stay away from the tourist traps of excursions (I usually rent a car and explore on my own). Eventually I came across the lodge and I knew I had to experience it even if it was for a day. My plane was late so I had the entire day left in Puerto Plata, the hotel made you check out at noon so I had 7 hours. I called the lodge and Tim was wonderful and gave great advise. My initial plan was to book a room and stay at the lodge for the day; however, Tim suggested to do the hike. Later that day when I arrived at the…
Staying at the ecolodge was an ab fab experience from start to finish. The manager, Miguelina, was the hostess with the “mostest”. She warmly welcomed us upon our arrival and got us settled in. She even made a special light dinner for us since we got in late. The meals were fantastic. They met and exceeded every expectation. I had no clue what Dominican food would be like and was thoroughly enchanted by every meal. Their creative use of local produce, herbs and spices transported us into a state of bliss at every meal. Jaunine was a fabulous tour guide, the shuttle/taxi driver that was arranged for us was friendly and professional and the lodge staff was friendly and efficient. I strongly recommend that you get a private room unless you are bringing your crew with you and can…
